I definitely starting with power & stability tape and then slowly moving my tape either higher or lower will help me find that sweet spot. I have one paddle that’s a pretty light/control paddle I might try a power tape on to see if I can reclaim it.

Good information! Originally, I watched Ben Johns deliver a video explaining how he set up his Franklin paddle so I set my Gamma Hellbender up in a similar fashion for more stability and, as you put it, hand speed. I ended up having to reduce the amount of weight a couple of times to get to a level that matched my playing style. After watching this, I prefer your method of putting the weighted tape on the electric tape for easier adjustments. Thanks for the advice!

Great video. I started with tape at top end for power on my heavier Engage pro but removed it because of tennis elbow symptoms.
Then I bought a featherweight 7.2 Engage Pursuit MX so I added 14 grams total, 7 on each side at 5 and 7 o’clock for stability. Added 1/2 ounces so now I have a very stable 7.7 oz Engage

I guess I use a combo of two methods. I place lead tape all the way across the top of the paddle and half way down the sides. This makes for quite a heavy paddle (9.3 oz), but since I still play a lot of tennis, this set-up still feels light as a feather to me.

    • @thedutchinvestor040

Thanks for the info, I had not heard of using tungsten tape in lieu of lead tape. My taping differs with each paddle, depending on the paddle balance before modification. I tend to tape for stability and to slightly modify the balance (generally moving from head heavy to more neutral balance).

I've been using my stash of lead tape for ages on my tennis racquets and table-tennis paddles. Had no idea tungsten is now available! I usually prefer head-light balance on tennis racquets but because the swing-weight is so low with PB paddles (due to shorter length) I place my tape higher up around mid-height.

I don't need any tape, but the recommendations are useful. In my younger days, and as a small fellow with not as much oomph on my strokes as the big guys, I used to put weight on the top of my tennis racquets. However, in my old age, I'm pretty sure my response time is slowing. So, I think I'll take some ten-year-old coated lead tape that my son used to use on his racquets and try making my paddled heavier on the handle side. Maybe my response time will improve? (Don't worry. I'll be careful.)

30 years of working on tennis rackets suggests to me that ADDING weight(anywhere) can't increase your hand speed. It can surely change the balance; but you won't swing a HEAVIER object FASTER with the same swing.
