Yea same here the combat in the new one sucks if I’m being completely honest like it gets so repetitive so fast and it’s just the same combo over and over again with gadgets that almost all do the same thing and some just aren’t worth using
From my perspective, Spider-Man 2 is the best still. Insomniacs Spider-Man I completed (platinum trophy) in a week. It's story was good and gameplay was fun, if a bit arkham-esque, but after completing it I never really went back. Spider-Man 2 I played for years and took me ages, as a younger person of course, to complete. And I did it multiple times. Whereas, the other games in-between original trilogy and PS4 were a bit more niche that only a smaller number of people really talked about. The web swinging is also a lot more creative in the original Spider-Man 2. You can do so many cool things with webbing and swinging, shooting 2 webs at once for instance. I'm amazed the newest one doesn't have it, it's swinging is very basic really. I imagine the new Spider-Man 2 will have multiple webs but it still stands that the PS2 era version had a lot more traversal creativity to me.

I would argue Web of Shadows could have the best combat out of any Spider-Man game. You had combos for ground, wall and aerial combat. Times that by two considering both suits get their own upgrades and combos. WoS has a decent yet janky story but the gameplay is great. Frames permitting...
The coolest part of the first Spider-Man game to me was the unlockable story mode where you get to play as the Green Goblin. I'm pretty sure I had to unlock it with cheats as a kid, and it felt like an entirely separate game.
Web of shadows not good on the combat front? That game was the first SM game to really push what you could do with spidey, wall combat, aerial combat, not to mention the black/red suit switching combos and how fluid and cool it was to switch between these two. I think WoS is one of the most underrated superhero games ever made. Insomniac really took a lot from this game as well, but it never gets credit. I think the Sam Raimi trilogy should be remastered or remade since after the success of No Way Home. They can improve the indoor areas in terms of swinging, add the Kraven the Hunter stages that were only on Xbox in the first game, and maybe make Tobey Maguire sound more like his Spider-Man counterpart but he can still use his Peter voice when he is narrating or just talking in his head like in comics, etc. spider-man 3 needs fighting mechanics similar to PS4’s Spider-man. I think they could make Spider-Man 2’s open-world larger like SM3’s so after beating SM2, SM3 story is there.
