If I could listen to only 10 songs for the rest of my life, this would be one of them.
You can. Do it. Ultra dull guy.
What would the other 9 be?

Everyone of the band members is nothing but pure talent.
RIP the two members of The Cars
Ric Ocasek (March 23, 1944 - September 15, 2019), aged 75
Benjamin Orr (September 8, 1947 - October 3, 2000), aged 53
You both will always be remembered as legends.
At least Ric had some "longevity" but it's sad that Ben didn't. 53 is still fairly young in this day and age.
Rot in hell. The pair of them.
Actual live performance. No lip syncing, no tape enhancement....
They were great live.
This song really shows what an amazing guitarist Elliot Easton is.
I noticed that.
He's really getting after it in this version!
Do his riffs sound like Johnny Marr on this version.....or is it just me?
Easton and Greg Hawkes(Keyboards) are underappreciated musicians
@@rjpg yes, I heard The Cars on the radio the other day and was focusing on the keyboard part...Greg is a musical genius.
RIP Ric. This is my favorite cars tune. Hope he and Ben Orr are jamming in heaven right now . It’s a sad day in rock
Same
ikr, just shared this again on fb, my favorite song ❤️💕
Picture disc, 1978.
Love it...
I'm sure they are. God bless them for the joy their music brought to my life.❤
They're ALL asleep, waiting for judgment from Jesus. ...smoking (slow suicide; self murder) likely won't call for good judgement.

John 3:3 KJV
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of GOD.
Do not be deceived like the masses of the world; repent, surrender, be saved/freed from sin & FOLLOW Jesus to LIVE. Blessings IN Jesus!🙋

Goodbye, Rik. Say hi to Ben for us ❤️
My first 45 single I ever purchased at age 10 in 1978, RIP 🌹💔.
It was a picture disc.
Still have it..
'..nuclear boots and her drip- dry gloves..'
Wow.
Heartbeat City was the first album I ever bought. My heart....
Same here, same age too!
One of the best rock and roll songs ever produced. Great vocals, great lead guitar, great everything! RIP Ric, you will be missed. Thanks for the wonderful music.
I bought the album in 78 purely for this single. I was 24. I loved it. Still do.
RIP Ric and Ben! Truly remarkable musicians, and you're both truly missed.
Marylin Monroe is so pretty
Was 🫤
Two remarkable musicians ... and the voices of the Cars.
?????
Just a kick ass riff
Elliot Eastman is one of the best rock guitarists ever.
Elliot is such a massive player. That noodly, melodic, Nashville-inspired sound was such a pitch perfect fit for this band.
Definitely a country rock feel..
Amazing band, not many sound as good live as recorded
It's because they'd paid their dues. They didn't become successful until they were in their thirties, so they were as tight as a gnat's arse😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Reminds me of June 3, 1980..
Let the Good Times Roll!
we miss n need this kinda music
Saw em twice as a kid..they opened for foreigner n then for Boston..1978 maybe
That would've been amazing.
@@nikkiwilliamscastle9528 was amazing to be a kid back then. Lol
@@clinttorres2508 I'm 52 now and still loving these bands.
@@nikkiwilliamscastle9528 I'm 59, I don't listen to music all that much anymore
First, we lost Benjamin Orr to cancer. And now, it's Ric Ocasek due to a heart disease. We'll miss you both. RIP, Ric and Ben.
Ben is the true GOAT of the cars.
David Robinson tearing the drums up he's simply Killin it
RIP Rick...thank you for your contribution to a generation of music
I was 15 in 1985. These guys were the soundtrack to my youth, good and bad times. I love them forever.
Elliot Easton kicks it here and still does. His guitar licks on this still give me chills
Thanks Elliot, RIP Ric
Elliot's playing reminds you of what lead guitar is supposed to do and be.
Easton's rockabilly guitar in this song always impresses.
Absolutely country influenced
catchy song
AS AN INDIVIDUAL BAND MEMBER, I FEEL ELLIOT EASTON'S GUITAR PLAYING WAS UNDER RATED.
Yes and excellent guitarist indeed. Stood out the first time I heard this song.
Extremely underrated!
That was one tight, stunningly awesome band. And these songs defined an era.
The very definition of tight. I like the way the guitar licks are slightly different to the record too.
Um, I think the Cars might just be the coolest band the US has ever produced. Yes, I think they might be.......
I agree with you completely
Now boys and girls this is exactly how it’s done!!!!
One of the most creative and technically-sound bands of the era. RIP, Ben and Ric!
This era they still are ! ! !
1978 AGAIN A HOT YEAR FOR MUSIC.
Bringing the Buddy Holly beat into the 80's. RIP Mr Ocasek , I hope you're making more beautiful music with Benjamin
The tune’s all Beatles, even the Cars admit that…
@@Eduardo-om5ex listen to some Buddy Holly to hear where the Beatles got it from
I think this is their best song.
a time when the real musicians played live at parties and auditoriums, where they were closer to the people.... I would like to see the little groups of today playing live and entertaining a party
Rest in Paradise, Ric! 9/15/2019
Rest in peace, Ric. They don't make music like this anymore and that's a damn shame.
The way back machine lands here, and it lands damn well !!!!!!!!!!!
Damn I'm old. Makes me sad in a good way, bitter sweet remembering growing up in these times. We who were kids in the 70's and teenagers in the 80's had it made and we didn't even know it. Love to ya all! Skaal!
We had a foretaste of Heaven & yet there we were, all impatient for "the future" to arrive... which turned out to be crap pretty much, especially in terms of pop/rock, especially after 2000 (except for the occasional gem here & there).
Classic love this song 🎵 👌 the cars
Looking back, I just marvel at the amazingly talented musicians and bands we were spoiled with in the past.
RIP Ric Ocasek......
This one hurts!
Jam session tonight with Ben Orr....
Damnit!!
There has been a lot of artists that there passing has hurt
This band kick ass for years and continues to do so RIP Ric and Ben!
.....it's finger pickin good. Surely one of the Best Pop Songs ever.
Amazing version of an all-time classic song. Such a great, tight, band the Cars were! Solid musicianship, excellent vocals, and quite a few truly timeless songs. Elliott Easton may have been the bands “best kept secret” to the casual fan, but Cars aficionados, and especially guitar players knew…what a meticulous, well rounded, highly skilled and musical guitarist he was (and surely, still is)! Like all of you, I miss those days, and I miss the Cars. R.I.P. Ric and Ben, and thank you for all of the great music. You will never be forgotten!
these guys really were the Beatles of New Wave, so many quality, timeless songs.
Will never outgrow this cars' hit
Sincerest condolences to Rik’s family and friends.
RIP Rik, thank you for the music.
🌹😢
Such a Cars fan love them a long time so many songs so good musicians.
Just now heard that Ric Ocasek has passed away today. 9/15/19.
Rest in peace Ric, you were one of a kind!!!!
song from my youth! So long ....... what a bass-riff and jangly guitar - fab
Such great musicians!!
One of the coolest bands ever
RIP Ric. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.
Only pop rock perfection from The Cars!
Audio mega bilge. Nothing to hear in that. Not exactly Tom Petty are they? Boring crap.
I love it when Elliott Easton plays a Telecaster! 🐒
Even a super group like the ..Cars.. had to do the club circuit.. . Way before the internet with UA-cam and all that shit.. you had to beat the streets to get heard. Thank you guys for all the awesome music through the years..
Amazing group! Elliot sings right along as he's playing the lead rifts... amazing guy.
^..^~~
RIP Ric: The Cars were so good
How can ELLIOTT Easton cram so many great riffs and one song. Incredible!
Very very good guitarist..my personal favorite
Rest easy Ric...always loved The Cars...had such a fresh sound that still sounds good...thanks for all the great music...hope you and Ben keep the music alive...RIP
The guitar lick immediately following "she used to mine" is the best thing ever
Elliots and Ben’s guitars sound like heaven to my ears🤟🏼🤘🤘besides backing up with the chorus 🧡❤️🥰❤️
The 70's and 80's in a nutshell.....Cheap Beer, Columbian Gold or a KEGER of Rolling Rock a BON FIRE and THE CAR's Jacked up till it was DISTORTED What more could a growing boy ask for Heaven on Earth !!!!!
Jeff Young This song came out in the Summer of ‘78!

I’m 17 & high finding this band🤘 Thanks Ric
Listen to the whole first album in full on stereo sound.
I did today!... although I love “Candy O” as an album❤️👍...it’s all good
I lve watching these old recordings i grew up super poor but we always had music
One of the greatest 🙌 ❤ 👏
Love you Ric, your music shaped my 80's child hood, RIP ib rock and roll heaven.
Miss you Ric. I'd always thought I'd die before you.
So many hits so many memories. Ric Ocasik will be very missed .... Ric and Benjamin jamming tonight .....
RIP Thanks for the great memories.
Elliot Easton throwin' down some wicked rockabilly licks....
The lead guitarist on this song is now my new god. Amazing to hear the live version beats the radio version.
Few singers actually play a guitar, lead or rhythm. Ric is really playing that thumping rhythm.
Losing Ben and Ric is such a blow. Master class of music
Thank you for making College fun on weekends. RIP Bro..........
25 and this is 🔥
Ben Orr 💔💔💔💔 Great Musician lost. But he is playing in heaven now with all the great past Musicians.

Sad Benjamin didn’t live to see them inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame R.I.P Benjamin
This was one of "MY" bands. I was a little too young for Candy-O, but I caught up with them with Heartbeat City in a big way when I turned 12.
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. They integrated the perfect Carl Perkins rockabilly guitar lick and that made this tune AWESOME.
RIP Ric. I still miss you, sir. You and Ben were geniuses.
What a great sound. Elliot Easton.
Easton is amazing here!! So underrated! Great band, The Cars never really got the respect they deserved.
Elliot Easton riffs in this song are just incredible :)
I absolutely love this!! This club setting and how they walk thru the crowd to get to the stage. I love Early Cars! Love you Ben and Ric rock on up there.
Would have loved to be at THIS show!!!
Benjamin Orr ♥♥
I grew up on these guys, and Ric was always the coolest to me. That guy never once looked like he gave a single shit what was going on around him.
There are many awful things that happen in life but this song always makes me feel better.
Killer Guitar!
So young in this. Such a great band
I was glad to see the Cars were inducted into the rock hall in 2018___r.i.p Ric!!
Rest in Peace Mr Ric Ocasek and Mr Benjamin Orr.
So cool. So much style. That lead, that simple keyboard. God the 80s were great. My favorite decade. Everything went to hell in the 90s.
This is the song that made me want to start a band. A little bit of New Wave, Power Pop, Rockabilly, & pure Rock n Roll. Thanks and RIP, Ric Ocasek.
I never realized the fans kissing EE in the beginning. What a life!
I know, I thought all the ladies loved Benjamin, but Elliott is the best musician, and taller. Elliott got the ladies. Greg was always happily married and still is to the same woman since 1978
Everyone knows Ric married Paulina and lived happily ever after. Paulina is a genuinely good person as well as beautiful
I'm sure he was thinking the same thing after getting that attention
Those are Elliot's 2 sisters! They were so happy for him!

Part of a generation that rock music jumped over to cult. Originality
Heavens rockin tonight...RIP RIC...💕
Turn on one more joint hell yeah
Pure, unadulterated pleasure.
no phones just vibes... people enjoying the moment
I have enjoyed your music with the rest of your band, got me through many hard times in my teen years,my records and radio were my best friends. You will be missed Ric. Much Love ❤️😢🎸💗🎶 class of 82.
Big fan of Ocasek's stripped-back punk new wave bark-singing
Picture disc 1978.
Still have it..
My favorite song from The Cars but truthfully so many songs you could chose from. Ric was very eccentric and I think he had a style all his own. I think Ric and Ben Orr complemented each other very well. Elliott Easton (as he demonstrates in this song) is one of the better guitarists that doesn't get due recognition. Watching this and it shows what kind of joke this new music is but that's not exactly hard to do.
It's all New wave except the guitars, pure Country.
GREAT TUNE - Easton seems to be having a blast
