However, there seems to be a base note coming out of the synthesizer which is not in tune, and is kind of annoying. It starts at 1:00. But the rest of the song is great, considering the guys are playing it live.
Definitely should have been entered into rock & roll hall of fame way earlier but better late than never! Love how their songs are so simple sounding and just so catchy describing romance, heartbreak, fast cars to hot women... such a dream of a band. RIP to Benjamin and Ric. Think all of them are legends in this magical American band.
Saw the Cars with the Motels back in 80. Rick Ocasek is not just a musical genius but a genius period. Thank God he used his immeasurable intelligence for the greater good...MUSIC!! The world is a far better place for it your choice. The Cars are a timeless and Legendary in their music. Rock on.
the eighties was a magical time. im glad I got to experience it. Mtv played the cars videos at least twice an hour and it seemed like they were always on the radio. RIP Ric thanks for the memories.
Loved every song they played in this LONG overdue induction! Ben is missed but the heart of the Cars is still rocken!! With Rics vocal rifs, Elliots master guitar playing, Greg's one of a kind keyboards and with David's rhythm this is what Rock and Roll is about folks, this music is sorely missed today! Ric you will are sorely missed, RIP!
Shelly Murray We listened to BOB fm every day for years at my old job as a prep cook which made me appreciate them and this genre of music over time. I’m only 24 and have been in love with The Cars and oldies to this day
Didn’t even notice Scott Shriner was in this until it was mentioned during an interview during an acoustic show. Nice to see Ric Ocasek was on good terms with Weezer before his passing. His work with Weezer (Producing The Blue Album, Green Album, and EWBAITE) introduced me to him and I’m so glad that Weezer could be a gateway to me discovering The Cars. Rip Ric Ocasek

I grew up listening to your music. Thank you for the fondest of memories. Rest in heaven, our friend, our musical genius. You will be missed, Mr. Ocasek, but never forgotten.
Thank you Cars for your great songs. Ric you are now part of Rock and Roll Heaven. You and Ben are now together writing more great songs and jamming with the best musicians.
What can you say that hasn't already been said, I grew up listening to Rick and the cars back in the 70s and 80s, I'm so thrilled that they finally made to the rock and roll hall of Fame. Their music was timeless and eternal still is, it defined a generation. Rick you may be in heaven now performing magic for Jesus and the heavenly host, but rest easy my brother we will be there soon to sing all your timeless songs with you again RIP my brother❤️🌹🌹🌹

The Cars "Candy O" was the first record I ever bought, I was 16. I loved that album and played it all the time. Thank you for the great music Ric, RIP.
I love it when Elliot turns his guitar up. That goes back to the days before your famous and have a sound guy. Of course I still have to turn mine up myself., but some habits are hard to break. He had to make sure that rockabilly lick was heard !! That’s awesome !

Rest in peace Ric. Thanks for your brilliant songwriting and music. My deepest condolences to your family and ex- wife Paulina. You touched lots of hearts as a musician, and for those of us that are musicians, that means everything. Love and peace, Paul Edwards.
if the were a hall of fame for most under rated bands, the cars would be first year inductees . they were the architects of new wave music . they never hogged up the spot light . they let there music do the taking . I feel as days pass, the passing of ric ocasek will sting more and more . rip mr ocasek . you were one of the greatest song writers of all time !
The Cars are the 80's. They were not necessarily my favorite band at the time but I listen to them more now than then. They just take me back in time.....
I remember when my friend and his girlfriend pulled up in 1978 jumped out of the car and were literally jumping up and down excited about the new sound blaring out of his 69 beetle, this was in Harewood, Nanaimo B.C. I was intrigued had a listen and was blown away.We were lucky to come of age in those times...the Cars would be played everywhere cruising and at parties...those were the best of times

I'm glad Ric lived long enough to be present for this. Now he can join Ben and make great music again and some day I'll be in attendance watching. RIp Ric and Ben and thanks for the childhood memories. 😢
These old guys were once world wide rock stars who had major hits and played Live Aid, and it really doesn't seem all that long ago when they were young punks....

A bird-like, older woman I'd never seen before appearred. I sat down at the corner of the bar with the redoubtable Captain Easychord, a local musician with a tremendous knowledge of the musical terrain. The Captain seemed very intent in his discussion with the women, to a degree that I started to take notice. There was something to this encounter. I thought back to other local anecdotes I'd heard, and I allowed my thinking to broaden on what I was seeing. This was Greg Hawkes. He was here to play Beatles cover tunes on ukulele with his friend Tim Mann. This was Greg Hawkes, gentle soul and superstar. Coolster. I didn't even speak. Well... seems like not may people get what it took to be great back when The Cars were great. You had to come up with a whole new universe of your own, and that included sound, lyrics, looks, art, attitude, clothes, etc.

I was always impressed at how Elliot managed to sneak straight rockabilly riffs in to a New Wave hit.
And killer jazz fuezoid licks playing left hand telecaster! ..un real!
testament to the brilliance of Elliot Easton
So very good in deed. it just works wonders
I had the same thought.
Yes! And a bit of country. He explains that in an interview that I watched.
Elliot Easton’s solos were pure gold.
Ageed, sound man needed the guitar doubled and the keyboard, which sounded great, decreased by a half.
Robinson's drumming and Eaton's guitar riffs are spot on.

love how Elliot being a true guitarist...reaches over and turns the amp up..well done
Yes, because he's been mixed out by some Ahole. Still can't here him here, the mix is way off!
Yep some A hole mixer turned that damn keyboard up to the hilt and that rockabilly lick was drown out !
Yeah, I noticed that also.
Saw The Cars in 1982 at the US Festival. Great music, great musicians, great people. Really deserve to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

It seems unclear how old he actually was.
Some reports say 75, some say 70.
