Yes, but DLP projectors have a much greater contrast. I used to get pretty annoyed by the rainbow effect, but I see it as a feature. Many people won't even notice it. I've had projectors in my living room for about 15 years. What I like about it is that it fundamentally changes how you feel about the content you're watching. One of my early transformative experiences was watching Jurassic Park, a movie I had watched hundreds of times since home video release on VHS, DVD, etc. I had actually seen it within six months before getting my first projector, YET, when I thought to try it out "on the big screen" it felt entirely new again. It was an experience I hadn't had since I stood in a line wrapped around my local cinema at 10 years old. So many movies feel old, or lesser when you see them on a television. I never cared for The Godfather until I finally got to see a film projection of it at The Egyptian in Hollywood. Especially now on this 4K world, screen size makes all the difference.
I own a 4K optima projector absolutely love it. I agree with this video If you're looking for contrast you're not going to beat the TV but 110 in with a surround sound system connected to a receiver that's where you get all your gains from. My family room cannot fit all that equipment but my dedicated home theater room most definitely can.
@0nlyusemeblade I've had it for 4 years I've had no issues with it so far. I used to have a Damson s-series 5.1.2 surround sound system that thing was a piece of garbage I've replaced it with Klipsch speakers and an Onkyo receiver I've had them for about a year now. When I got my projector it was a highly rated protector maybe there quality has gone down in the past 4 years.
@0nlyusemeblade 2018 UHD60 usually watch two movies during the weekend. So about 3 to 10 hours a week. I got a 65-in TCL as my daily driver for any other content like children shows and stuff like that. I only really use the theater for movies
despite having a projector since 2005, learned a lot esp re HDR and top end 1080 v low end 4K. Will stick with my Optoma for the moment. Might have mentioned bulb life as a factor

I’ve always liked projectors and I feel like recently their specs and price have leveled out. I personally prefer them over TVs. People in the comments are really just so bitter over nothing lmao. If you like your TV, good for you but did a projector kill your family for you to be so against them??
Currently got an Epson eh tw9100w. It's got a good picture but not good to game on due to 55ms in fast mode. I had a Sony 2030qm crt projector 500 lumens. It was very dimm and worthy of criminal punishment to calibrate 30+ screw driver knobs. All analogue. Upside was it has big 15 watt speakers on it that sounded great compared to the little 5 watt incorporated these days. My favourite was the Electrohome ECP4500 CRT projector. 720p/1080i 725 lumens 15000:1 native contrast. Ran over HDMI fury. Beats any modern day projector for gaming. No lag, no motion blur. Other than tube and lens calibration it was all digital. Looked like traffic light and were the size and weight too. Bump the projector and you have spend a few hours sometimes fixing it. 4K LG CX OLED at 120 hertz is the best picture overall. 120 hertz in game mode is very very close to CRT projector in response time at 60 hertz. There is blur unless you use black frame insertion (makes picture dim, but game mode must be off and lag increases. I think the future for projection is microLED.
E-Gate is the cheapest and I used it for like 4 years now, still working perfectly. But it has very average brightness 🔆. The price is just 90-100 dollars
I had bought a 90 dollar projector from a brand called E-Gate. After 4 years it’s still working perfectly. It is really worth the money, but the brightness 🔅 is very average, but for that price point it’s ok. Speakers ofc suck 😂
I now watched a bunch of videos about projectors and spend hours trying to find one that’s best for me.... I have a budget of about 400euros for the projector itself, I would like to have it 1080p and good brightness and as good of colors as possible but most importantly for me is the fan can’t be to extremely loud cuz I’ll sit right under the projector. If possible low latency cuz I would like to play games as well. I dont care about sound cuz i have great speakers. The projector will be parallel on a shelf about 290cm/9.5feet/114inches away from the projector screen and I have trouble figuring out how big the screen will be, I don’t want it to be too big so it’s on the floor and zoom decreases the resolution… One that I have my eye on is the NexiGo PJ20 but there now is a PJ30 and it’s basically just brighter. One that is basically perfect is the Optoma HD146X but the cheapest one is up for about 630bucks which is a bit much for me but might be doable when I close one eye... I would very much appreciate any help and recommendations that I can get! Thank you very much!
A family member of mine asked, 'isn't a projector picture bad ?'. I said 'I love the big picture, and for a quality of the picture, come over and see for yourself'. When he saw the picture in my Home Cinema he said 'Wow, it's just like a really big flat screen' My projector is a Epson TW9300 projected on a 84" DNP Supernova screen.
You failed to mention SCREENS are key to achieving excellent performance. An expensive projector on a flat white painted wall will be outperformed by a mid-range projector using a mid-range screen.
I’ve had a number of JVC projectors over the years and nothing comes close for a cinema viewing experience in the home. Oled TVs are great but can’t compete with a 6ft + screen - my JVC makes even standard blu rays look great.
Great projector info here👍. Nebula Cosmos Max 4k projector with Chromecast is the best for under 1,500 but you can find a great 1080p LED projector for about 200.
Not so. I tried the highly rated Apeman $200 projector. Yes, it’s good for $200 but it’s dim and the color is way off. It’s like a toy projector for kids. Returned it and got the cheapest Epson for $500. Totally worth the extra $$$.
Agreed. I own the Nebula Cosmo 4k and its amazing. Can't even think about buying a Projector that does not have quadrilateral digital adjustment anymore.
I’ve used a projector for movies and gaming for the last 15 years. It’s amazing, but for the first time I’m considering switching to a TV for my ps5 and Xbox series X so I can take full advantage. True 4K projectors are at least 3000 CDN and the HDR on those still just can’t compare. Way out of my price range and it makes me a bit sad. It’s hard to go from 114” screen to like a 75 or 85” screen…as silly as that sounds.
This was very informative but I think you should have mentioned how the surface you are projecting on has a great impact on the over all experience. Having a white wall or a white bed sheet would negate a higher investment is a quality projector. Yes it could be its own video but would have been nice to mention it.
Setting up your home theater projector screen I was lucky. The wall is the 11 ft wide and 6 ft High and it had a seam going all the way across the middle of the wall. Hi sheetrock mudded the seam sanded it and painted the entire wall with killz primer. Then I bought a projector paint from a seller in Michigan that specifically designed for dlps. The color of the paint is a mix of gray and powder blue. The court of paint came with a bag of ground silica.. you mix in a little at a time with a wooden popsicle stick that came with it the silica into the paint mixture. Using a 8-in foam roller it took me about 20 minutes to paint the entire wall. Let me tell you the image is absolutely beautiful. The 3D Blu-ray copy of Avatar is so lifelike it looks like you can take your hand and arm and stick it through the screen
I’ve been using a white wall with a projector for more than 20 years. My screen came with my apartment included at no extra cost. An expensive screen might improve things a little but it certainly isn’t necessary.
At 100" you would have to sit very close to have any advantage of 4k. Plus cheaper 4k are not native 4k. They do pixelshift, some better than others. Also consider that cheaper projectors are usually DLP which in many cases lead to rainbow effects.
@@Djekkie-gj7jz That is true but they use singel chip technology. That reduces rainbow effect significantly. I have seen a Barco Brage and it is a DLP but i did see a hint of rainbow.
@@Dummatzen I think cinema projectors use 3 dlp-chips wich reduces the rainbow effect. Not everyone is equally sensitive to the rainbow effect, some see it, others don't. But I actually wanted to say that DLP projectors are certainly not only found in cheap projectors, but this is indeed the case with home cinema projectors.
The cheapest projectors are single chip LCD and have the rainbow effect because they still need to alternate between the colors, also they don't have a good contrast at all because they are LCD. DLP chips are very expensive, so standard projectors only use one, projecting the colors in sequence, therefore generating the artifact. But high end DLP projectors are faster (especially LED/laser with no color wheel), so they drastically reduce the issue. If you still don't like it, 3LCD projectors have no rainbow effect, but lower contrast and the grid effect (space between pixels). Perfect for slides, but not so much for movies. Projectors in movie theaters always use three DLP chips (one for each primary color) so they have the greatest achievable contrast and no rainbow effect at all.
I always said if you have a really good high lumen projector, you can make all those other features look good. Trust me; go for a good high lumen projector--5000 lumens and up and all that contrast ratio and HDR crap don't mean anything. Of course they will be more expensive but worth it. You will be able to manipulate all those other features. I been buying projectors since the 90's and i'm so sure on this. Trust me.
@@arcticape445 Barco is good. Christie. Digital Projection. NEC is good too. Sony is good but get one with 1920x1200 and 5000 lumens and up. Hello Everyone. I have a 120 * 100 inch symmetric curved wall in my room. My room is normally dark as it has big thick curtains. I have never used a projector before. I am not looking for a very costly projector. This place where I stay is in my hometown and I may shift next year. So looking for a portable projector may be. I am definitely sure I don't want to mount the projector anywhere in the room. So shall I go for portable projectors. But all of them come with a speaker if I am not wrong and they also have a small resolution.

What I like about my Brilens native 1080p projector: A 154 inch screen from 13 feet away, for $145.99 on Amazon. What I don't like about my Brilens native 1080p projector:
What really needs to be discussed is the minimum size of a room needed to get a sizable picture. More often than not, people don’t have deep long rooms to get wide pictures. The rooms are fairly square. This limits picture size.
there are short throw projectors that only need a couple of meters for a 100" picture. there are even projectors that are placed directly in front of the wall (quite expensive and new tech though)
I just got a Mitsubishi HC5500, fantastic for movie nights but am now too broke to buy a screen for it. Gotta wait for mid september or my birthday, or even christmas
Not sure if you tried but we have just used a wall for 15yrs... the reason , originally my image was 16ft long X 9ft high which meant the cost of a good screen was 3000+ because the screen was roughly 220in YOU'LL NEVER get a TV that big ( we LOVE IT ) since then we have moved & the new wall only allows 140in image , we had it on a beige wall at first so painted it white and PERFECT image.
Ahh VHS. Nostalgia feels :)
Yes better immersion makes a world of difference.
@@craigmiesterable I still own a couple of VHS tapes and I love playing them just for the sake of nostalgia. :). And audio cassettes
@4:26 I would have edited that one out 😂 Jo. Great review. I want a gaming projector for console under $1000
Thank you, I see Ankler Nebula Mars II Pro is highly popular because it is a portable projector in a unique design.
Good point! I have an Epson 6050UB and am noticing a drop in ECO-mode picture brightness with a little over 1,400 hours on the lamp. The rated useful life is 5,000 hours! I do use the projector as my main TV, so it gets a lot of use. But I did expect to get better performance from such a higher-end model in the Epson product-line.
I’ve always liked projectors and I feel like recently their specs and price have leveled out. I personally prefer them over TVs. People in the comments are really just so bitter over nothing lmao. If you like your TV, good for you but did a projector kill your family for you to be so against them??
Currently using an Epson 5050UB on a 135” screen 👍🏻
I found a Sony projector at a garage sale. We hang a 150" 16:9 screen from the garage door for movie night. It is great fun!
Can you do a video on what entry level projectors to buy🤓
WARNING, BBC News, comment in this reply is a Crypto Spam. IT IS NOT British Broadcasting Corporation.

I love my projector and screen.
A family member of mine asked, 'isn't a projector picture bad ?'.
I said 'I love the big picture, and for a quality of the picture, come over and see for yourself'.
When he saw the picture in my Home Cinema he said 'Wow, it's just like a really big flat screen'
My projector is a Epson TW9300 projected on a 84" DNP Supernova screen.
What about short throw projectors, where do they fit in?
Still like my xga unit from InFocus from 2001
You failed to mention SCREENS are key to achieving excellent performance. An expensive projector on a flat white painted wall will be outperformed by a mid-range projector using a mid-range screen.
Great review Bro! It didn't sound biased. Lots of good info!
Wrong I went from a Benq 2050A to a Benq HT 3550. The hdr colors are a major improvement.
I’ve had a number of JVC projectors over the years and nothing comes close for a cinema viewing experience in the home. Oled TVs are great but can’t compete with a 6ft + screen - my JVC makes even standard blu rays look great.
good to know
Great projector info here👍. Nebula Cosmos Max 4k projector with Chromecast is the best for under 1,500 but you can find a great 1080p LED projector for about 200.
Links
Snob
$100 🎥
I’ve used a projector for movies and gaming for the last 15 years. It’s amazing, but for the first time I’m considering switching to a TV for my ps5 and Xbox series X so I can take full advantage. True 4K projectors are at least 3000 CDN and the HDR on those still just can’t compare. Way out of my price range and it makes me a bit sad. It’s hard to go from 114” screen to like a 75 or 85” screen…as silly as that sounds.
I've got an Optoma UHD50 and it is awesome apart from in Summer in the UK and the amount of heat it kicks out.
The 3D Blu-ray copy of Avatar is so lifelike it looks like you can take your hand and arm and stick it through the screen
now i wanna know what projector does he own?
Literally was about to buy one next week!! Perfect timing
Well done! Epson 5040 ube here and love it. 110" Stewart Filmscreen. From all the research I've done all you said was true.
I need an update! Did anything change? New projectors? Major price changes?
Thank you for your comprehensive overview. God bless you.
I have a £100 projector and I'm happy.
Why didn't you cover the short throw ones?
Didn't mention the screen can cost as much as the projector or more
It depends on what screen you buy, there are affordable ones and expensive ones so its up to you and the quality you want
I’ve been using a white wall with a projector for more than 20 years. My screen came with my apartment included at no extra cost. An expensive screen might improve things a little but it certainly isn’t necessary.
The prices you just mentioned tells me all the Ebay ones I saw today for roughly $70 mis a scam. ty
Nice preview
I'm a huge fan of the XGimi MoGo Pro. It's been great.
Using a Dell 1610HD projector. Great business projector for home use.
Im about to buy the NEBULA Proyector 4K as my first proyector.
it's going to be in the ceiling, about 3.5 meters from thw wall. I hope it does well
At 100" you would have to sit very close to have any advantage of 4k. Plus cheaper 4k are not native 4k. They do pixelshift, some better than others. Also consider that cheaper projectors are usually DLP which in many cases lead to rainbow effects.
Very expensive cinema projectors are also DLP. That has nothing to do with the price.
@@demagab yeah, my mixup. But basically what I ment.
Miss my constant image height projector setup, really wish Tv manufacturers would resurrect 21:9 models.
Ideas or videos you know of for a theater room projector? Will be 120” screen, 16:9, and 20ft away. Would like to stay under $2,000
So very helpful ❤
I always said if you have a really good high lumen projector, you can make all those other features look good. Trust me; go for a good high lumen projector--5000 lumens and up and all that contrast ratio and HDR crap don't mean anything. Of course they will be more expensive but worth it. You will be able to manipulate all those other features. I been buying projectors since the 90's and i'm so sure on this. Trust me.
Which specific projectors do you recommend? Thanks!
@@arcticape445 Barco is good. Christie. Digital Projection. NEC is good too. Sony is good but get one with 1920x1200 and 5000 lumens and up. Trust me the picture will kill all those 4K HDR projectors with those small 1500 to 2700 lumens. I been buying projectors for many years and it wasn't until i got a 5000 lumens projector i seen what real cinema looks like. You will thank me.
@@2011Savere Anything under $10k lol?
Very goooood video. You covered all issues.
Didn't speak on those advertised as '4K' but really aren't, and those that provide true native 4K...
I have had projectors for many years, however I’m not able to have one set up at the moment as wife mode is enabled and unable to have one and I can honestly say I would trade my OLED 65” tv for my decade old 1080p projector any day!
What about using a black screen. What kind of picture will you get?
what is the best mini portable projector that works on day-light
Using Sony HW15 and it still a nice unit. If this fails near future ill switch to 325ES
I really like the Anker nebula solar with a Roku soundbar set up
Please point us in the right direction. Would you purchase a Sony 290es or the Epson 6050 (9400 in Australia) and why?
Hello Everyone. I have a 120 * 100 inch symmetric curved wall in my room. My room is normally dark as it has big thick curtains. I have never used a projector before. I am not looking for a very costly projector. This place where I stay is in my hometown and I may shift next year. So looking for a portable projector may be. I am definitely sure I don't want to mount the projector anywhere in the room. So shall I go for portable projectors. But all of them come with a speaker if I am not wrong and they also have a small resolution.
What do you think about TMY Projector 7500 Lumens with 100" Projector Screen, 1080P Full HD Supported Portable Projector, Mini Movie Projector Compatible with TV Stick Smartphone HDMI USB AV, for Home Cinema & Outdoor Movies on Amazon?
Hey, sorry to bother you. But I needed alil help and you seem super knowledgeable in the subject, I’m in the market for a projector for a dedicated ht room with a budget of 3000 dollar, which projector would you buy if you were me? And I don’t know if I’m willing to deal with the 5050 ub with its cheap light bulb and its fake 4k, but it seems like it’s the one that everyone recommends, is there something that would best it or is it really the best
I have a short throw Optoma with 120hz on the game mode and I love it. I mainly use it outdoors and it's damn good.
IS it the 1080HDR model?
thank you very much, a great review. First time user of a projector. I would like to buy a projector for outside use and project on a large roll down screen. Not really sure about the screen either, any help would be appreciated.
To use in a room with a dimmed light, is 6000 lumins enough? Should I go for 8?
Short throw?
What about using a gray or black projector screen to increase contrast?
do you have any idea how much lightpower(luminium) it would take to have something look white on a black screen?
What are the best options (if any) for Sunday game day events outside?
For outside daylight? If so none...Night time there are MANY! If you want something cheap... LED, which bulb life is long, I am currently using a Growview 9500l and is perfect for my needs. Bright, WIFI capable and bluetooth tech that I hook up to just about any bluetooth speaker you can think of. Got mine for $150 on amazon. Happy hunting.
Which projector you used for 20 yrs?
Walmart is selling a monster name brand projector for 400 canadian. Says it's 6000 lumen brightness comes with 120" screen Or 350 for rca namebrand 200" screen
What do you think about an epson ex 7280? For home and office?
Mine was always loud and hot so it was difficult to have placed where I really wanted it. Wires can be cumbersome.
For just a quick Video it's OK.
But you could have mentioned Screens.
In my Case the Screen I use does improve the contrast by 8 times. This is a big deal.
What about used alternatives? could a used projector still be good?
My question too
Do you need to buy a screen or can you use the wall
What I like about my Brilens native 1080p projector: A 154 inch screen from 13 feet away, for $145.99 on Amazon.
What I don't like about my Brilens native 1080p projector:
What really needs to be discussed is the minimum size of a room needed to get a sizable picture. More often than not, people don’t have deep long rooms to get wide pictures. The rooms are fairly square. This limits picture size.
there are short throw projectors that only need a couple of meters for a 100" picture. there are even projectors that are placed directly in front of the wall (quite expensive and new tech though)
Cool, but gives 0 ideas what to buy.
I'm sure a screen will help enhance the picture & I'm currently researching purchasing one ($400-$1600) but I keep going back to what we have already looks AMAZING I might wait until I get a 4k projector currently were using a mitsubishi hc3800
@@joealbarella2493 I've used the large blind(or whatever you call these large white panels you can retract by tugging on the cable on the side) on the window as a screen and it works very well, and if I am at my family's house, I usually use the wall in my room and it works just as well, still can't afford a screen, but it's not a priority at the moment
Great presentation, thanks.
I Prefer modern TV quality over projectors any day. TVs are getting bigger and more affordable than ever before. A decade ago, a 65'' 1080p HDTV was worth thousands. Now they have become way more affordable to a point that allot of household have 55'' to 65'' 4ktv as standard for their living room. Next decade we will have 75'' to 85'' TV's as standard.
Honestly 85" just doesnt compare to 120" screen. Just a different experience. I have a 75" TV as well. Also, i paid only $150 for my LED projector, but I think my framed screen i purchased back in 2000 makes a difference. Love both, but for price point and screen size, no comparison. Projector all day. As long as you can control lighting.
What do you think of the viewsonic m2e? I'm in the Advertising field, I'm looking for something portable and good image quality for presentation.
I’d like someone to tell me how long they last !?
I have a benq projector for my cinema downstairs and a nebula cosmos ultra for my cinema outside and this one have very great speaker maybe this one is the only expecting for speaker
What about ultra short throw?
how did you guys know I was looking at projectors yesterday??
Thinking about it, but what about screens. I use my computer with hdmi output on my tv, Will that work with the projector???
Thats the best way to use a projector for sound and picture.
You can paint a dedicated wall to silver screen a specific paint made for walls that you want to use the projector on
I ordered a 100in screen on Amazon with the stand. Works great. Projector sound needs to be amplified by powered computer speakers or you will barely hear it with the projector by itself. I watch movies , hbomax, etc. at least every other night, and sometimes I watch them again on my 65in samsung qled if the movie is good.
The one thing I needed to know was not covered. What is the minimum typical screen size if I want to trace some photos onto canvas?
Search for videos on projector screens. There are many. That's what I'm doing next. lol
I don't know if I should go with an 85inch OLED or 120inch projector
