You can use a green unripe tomato in place of apple in recipes. I have made faux jams, pies, ect. It works. And for those naysayers that claim green tomatoes aren't safe to eat, people from the south eat them fried all the time. We have eaten them for years and have never had any issues. So, use your own judgement on it.
Oh yeah, dice it up pretty finely. Add it to your favorite jello while the jello is still hot and add sweetener of your choice and you have a jam that is very close to the jello flavoring that you used. ie.....use raspberry jello and it tastes like raspberry jam. It won't take very much sweetener as jello is already sweet(for keto use the sugarfree jello). Must let it completely cool and then refrigerate overnight before eating. Keep in mind that it will only be as thick as the amount of water that you add. Use less water to make the jello if you want it to be thicker.
In the 90’s I did Suzanne Somers diet. She had carbs but, not often. For Thanksgiving she made celery root mash as a substitute for mashed potatoes and a sausage stuffing. Both were excellent
Lol! We used to have sliced cranberry sauce, too! In fact, my sister and I used to argue over the end that was shaped like the can end! We thought it was a pretty design! 😅😂🤣🤣
My mom always made cranberry sauce from scratch and my mother-in-law always bought the canned jelly version. I liked them both but once I went keto I started making my own. Thank you for sharing all those great options!!
We don't have Hero bread in Canada and it makes me so sad because I tried it when I was in the States and it was awesome. I always call it stuffing whether it's in the bird or not.
You know another great thing about the jellied version of cranberry sauce is that it spreads so nicely on Hero bread for that awesome leftover turkey sandwich! 😊 Even with all the Keto modifications, I find I definitely over-indulge on carbs at Thanksgiving! I don’t find it as difficult for the other Holidays… I don’t know why.
Try Kabocha squash instead of butternut. It has half the carbs, but still has that same taste that people associate with pumpkin/butternut/sweet potato. A cup of butternut squash has 16 grams of carbs, and a cup of Kabocha has only 8 grams of carbs.
LOL, my mom just slid that gelled cranberry tube out of the can into a pretty dish and she sliced it as well. I never even imagined there was another way. Too funny!
10:27 These are great, timely recipes thank you so much Sarah & 10:27 Emily! My oldest daughter is a fabulous trained cook & has taught classes. The one thing she makes over the holidays that I avoid is her spicy sausage dressing/stuffing. Everyone but me seems to like it, so I just pass it on, if anyone asks- I just say ‘I’m not eating bread now’-(since I’m actually Keto!) It’s just peachy when your children grow up & take over some of the holiday cooking and baking!!!😉
Stuffing=cooked inside the meat. You can stuff a bird, a crown roast of pork, or debone a leg of lamb and stuff it. Dressing=the exact same dish cooked separate from the meat, say, in a casserole or baking dish. Both are delicious combinations of starch (cornbread, wheat bread) chopped vegetables and highly flavored herbs.
I think I’ll try the hemp heart pilaf rice yall posted with turkey and that sweet potato side you just mentioned. Green beens with bacon and onions. That’s plenty.
The timing of this is perfect. Big family get together next month in AZ and I’ve been stressing about it. For decades I did the holiday cooking, but this year my son is hosting who isn’t keto. So I can now add some dishes so I won’t have a panic attack haha.
I NEEDED and have been waiting for someone to start posting holiday videos I made that stuffing last year but baked it in muffin cups for portion control and froze some for leftover meal I always love suggestions for holiday time Pecan pie....a ham ....etc..Julianna NC
I’ve always called it stuffing because it was stuffed in the bird…stuffed that is until the huge scare of illness if it wasn’t cooked thoroughly. Still, we call it stuffing in our region of the US.
We call it Stuffing whether in the bird or not! Lol... for the AuGratin "potatoes" try Chayote so good! All my non keto ppl had no idea when I used Chayote but could tell when I did radishes.
Sliced canned cranberry sauce growing up here too. Even at grama's house. I make it at home now just to control the ingredients, but for many years that was what I served as well. Can rings and all;) Such a funny memory shared by many. I love it!!!
I’ve tried mashed turnips, rutebega, and celeriac (celery root). All are good but each slightly different. I mix some different ones, use potato extract, and 2-3 tablespoons of mashed potato flakes. Also, these plus Diakon are fantastic for scalloped “potatoes”
I'm super into celeriac air fryer fries lately. Haven't tried it as mashed potatoes yet but I'll bet it's great. Best replacement I've tried yet. (Keto/lc 28 yrs)
I like cranberry chutney. My mother-in-law's recipe is fabulous! 😋🤤 I made a keto-friendly green bean casserole. My own recipe, all of the flavors without the carbs.
I always make the cranberry relish the day before. It’s better once it sits overnight. I make it with oranges, walnuts and allulose for sweetener which makes it very low carb. My husband loves it!
I always call it stuffing, not because it’s been stuffed in the bird, but in order to differentiate it from, for example, salad dressing, so when I am doing a search in the saved recipes in my recipes app it doesn’t bring up everything using the word “dressing”… 😉
Here in New Zealand we call a chayote a 'choko'. I use it a lot in soups as a pototoe substitute. I tried it as the apple for 'apple pie' and I'm sold! I love it!
Dressing is a different thing! 😊 Usually cornbread crumbled up and mixed with chicken, chicken broth, spices (especially sage), sometimes egg, etc, then baked again. Stuffing is looser and not bound together. Think of dressing as kind of like a savory Thanksgiving cake. 😂

Years ago, you could buy a special glass rectangular serving dish made especially for the jellied cranberry sauce. The dish came with a round silver serving ladle. Thank you for bringing back fond memories.
I love Hero products!!!! So glad we can get some of their breads in stores here in Oregon. So far just sliced bread, hot dog & hamburger buns. They had tortillas for a short time, but they're not stocking them anymore. 😢
I get daikon radishes at my local grocery (Market Basket). It makes great chips and has a great texture when cooked in the instant pot although it has little taste. Sufficient spices can improve the taste remarkably.
When I first started keto, we would go to my daughter's house for Christmas. I asked her first if she would mind if I brought my own keto dishes. Of course she didn't mind and she supported me. They made the turkey which I could eat and I brought whatever side dishes I wanted. Since I've lost all my weight I don't do that anymore. I eat what I want on the holiday, and then I just go right back to my program the next day. But remember I didn't start doing that till I lost all my weight.

Hello, I tried the hero bread, they sell it at a store called Marc’s in Cleveland Ohio, it really tastes good like Italian bread. I am already planning to use it to make stuffing
Thanks for this video. I try to watch all of your posts, but I guess I’ve missed a few. I will definitely try a few of these. It's not letting me like this video 😢 In the south we typically make cornbread dressing. I call it dressing but it doesn't bother me if someone else calls it stuffing even if it wasn't stuffed in the bird. I'm not a purist lol I was looking for a sweet potato substitute and pumpkin actually has less carbs than butternut. I love pumpkin pie, too, so I'll be making pumpkin pie. I don't eat sweet potato casserole because most people put marshmallows on it. I prefer my marshmallows in cocoa 😂 I'm trying to use hibiscus tea to make cranberry sauce. I tried to use Roselle but it has more carbs than regular hibiscus tea. Also, I have looked it up and Amazon has cranberry flavoring. I might try that. I like the jellied cranberry sauce. Also, I think it's Chef fat grams but I can't remember, that has a chayote au gratin. It's good. I added more spices but the regular recipe is a good base for whatever seasoning you like. If you let it sit for a while it doesn't have a stronger cream cheese taste like when it's first cooked. I'd like to see that recipe made with less of a cream cheese flavored sauce. But the sauce still be thick. I, personally, didn't peel my chayote or deseed it but the video does. To each their own lol Thanks for all the ideas! I'm going to try to make zucchini taste like pineapple ( like the old canning recipe) and use it for pineapple upside down mug cake. Maybe you can try that out for me 😂

I'm trying to use hibiscus tea to make cranberry sauce.
To each their own lol
Thanks for all the ideas!
I'm going to try to make zucchini taste like pineapple ( like the old canning recipe) and use it for pineapple upside down mug cake. Maybe you can try that out for me 😂
Kabocha and pumpkin are good sweet potato subs
