- 10_13_2015, Timing a Honda 185/200cc ATC, 1982 ATC200 ignition damage, taking a few moments to show proper ignition timing, also, the damage found on my ATC200, not sure if things just wore out, and fell a part, or if something came loose, found the timing chain loose too, Harvey Spooner, Hoarding Mayhem, Honda ATC200, ATC185, ATC200, timing,
I had to eliminate the advance and weld the pieces together at the outside end. They kept going to pieces on me. I removed it except for the bare plate on the inside end. Timed it with the stator and it runs better than ever. Idles great and doesn't lack power at high rpm. No need for the advance. But You have to know what you are doing!!!!! Or 😮. I have a 1982 XL 185, it has destroyed that part twice now. I had to weld it in the right place, no advance now. But. Once timed it runs better than ever without the advance! More power! High and low r.p.m.s,. And it won't come apart on me again. 30,000 miles so far.
Thanks for the vid, I haven't checked my cam sprocket for TDC alignment, that will be my next inspection, When I bought this machine my pulser was in the same shape as that one, the pin was sheered and the springs scattered all over! I think I found a nail and cut it to size and used that for a cam pin, I cant recall ever replacing it and it seems to hold the coil in place,
+Dirk Smithson , I hope the video helps. I am not comfortable putting this engine back together until I take the top end off and explore a little. The advancer may have flown a part from wear... I guess the really loose timing chain is making me a bit nervous, I'm probably going to slam one of the engines that is floating about, looking for a home in that thing for now and spend some quality time on that engine later. i just pulled my cdi cover off my 200e and its the same way, the little pin is missing and its all falling apart like yours but it ran great all along now i have weak spark, i changed my plug wire, plug, coil, checked timing, didnt change the cdi, or stator yet, checking my ground in a few minutes i just shut the bike off after 10 minutes of driving and it doesnt want to start now
Hey Vhiadra, I would check the spacing between the CDI pulser and the magnetic trigger, (the mechanical advancer),. I set the spacing with a piece of standard printer / copier paper... If this doesn't fix it, let me know, we can go thru piece by piece.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!!

Hey Harvey I stumbled on one of your old videos I'm restoring a 200x engine great knowledge.
I've got a 81 honda atc 185s that someone just put new rings in well it ran pretty good before hand now it runs very rough and when you give it any gas at all it either dies or attempts to every time, carb is pretty much new so no problems there although my cam chain is loose it was loose before the rings were changed and i can't seem to get it tight the guiders look ok to me so I'm lost any help would greatly be appreciated.
Pick-up coil is in the angle position of the crank? or the timing of the F-Mark Crank case of Magnet is given on any side of the pick-up coil magnet ?

I have I have a 200 fourtrax the on and off switches went bad on it I can't get it to fire I got power going into my CDI box but nothing coming out it's been setting 4 years

Maybe you can help me I can not get my 200s running I put new everything stator fly wheel coil getting great spark new carb can’t get it to run has great compression for some reason when I crank it gas sprays out of the back of carb I watch your video on timing just don’t know what to do I am stumped please if you can help I would really appreciate it

so my timing chain is on but when i pull the pull star it does not turn the timing pulser at all? what could do this?also the chain is very sloppy on the timing and the bolt that should tighten does nothing i pulled it out turning to far and it was about 1 1/2 inches long total. not sure whats going on here can you help at all? great video and my great grandparents last name was also spooner thats kool! he was a great mechanic loved his rambler wagon lol. thanks for any help in advance. tom

looks like they forgot that half moon keeper. cam walked out and busted the advance.

Ur decompression spring. Cable or something inside the pull start is not correct.

I watched Ur video and left my comments on Ur channel, seems to be running rich, what does Ur air filter look like, try it without one for a minute, see how she runs, my golf cart was doing that and it turns out bees backed the air box vent holes with mud.... I don't currently have an air filter on it and it dies if I restrict airflow any at all, I'm thinking its fuel
