I remember going in for a end of term examination and while waiting outside I made up a phrase and asked the other students did they find it difficult to interpret. The look of horror for a split second was priceless and broke the tension for most of the class. The rest never forgave me. 😁

I had a similar teacher in my honors advanced algebra class. He set up the week on Monday telling the class that there would be a true/false quiz, like normal, on Friday. But he told us that if ANYONE got 100% on it, he'd give the entire class an A+ for the semester. Long story short, there were 10 questions. Each of the first 9, if correctly answered, were 'True'. But #10 was the zinger. It said "There is at least one question on this quiz which is correctly answered as 'False' (True or False)?"
I tried to be slick by making a T with an F overlaid atop it, but it didn't help. The teacher was good at making things memorable. I still remember this nearly 40 years later.

I worked in education for 25 years prior to retirement. One of the first things I learned is that great teachers teach because they love it and their students. Teachers never get rich. Their jobs can easily take over their lives. They have to be the initial POC with often crazed parents who are certain that no other child exists than their “light of their eyes”. This is not a job for the faint of heart.

Good work, sir. I always participated in our school's spelling bees and won a few of them... in the 80s. I remember an upset win once because most of us, me included, did not capitalize "White House." Glad you're able to have fun with your students while helping them learn.
