Number 4 from June and Summer Songs (2022) In the valley, soft and rich as cream, sublime In the valley, meadows green to pass the time The heatwave coming in the upper storey window Like a thing that's alive And they say the train is coming, but in truth They've been saying that for some time
And in my valley there's a light Even later in evening, June, sweet June nights The mountain spring is soothing, Working hard at proving that where happiness lies Is in the mossy corners, shadows of the boulders, lilac hints in the sky And in my valley there's a light Even late in evening, June, sweet June nights In the valley, soft and rich as cream, sublime In the valley, meadows green to pass the time The heatwave coming in the upper storey window Like a thing that's alive And they say the train is coming, but in truth They've been saying that for some time.
This is nice to listen to and the valley and the mountain spring somehow remind me of Moore's poem -- "There is not in the wide world a valley so sweet ..." -- and also "Tintern Abbey" by Wordsworth: >> ... And this prayer I make, knowing that Nature never did betray the heart that loved her; ‘tis her privilege, through all the years of this our life, to lead from joy to joy: for she can so inform the mind that is within us, so impress with quietness and beauty, and so feed with lofty thoughts, that neither evil tongues, rash judgments, nor the sneers of selfish men, nor greetings where no kindness is, nor all the dreary intercourse of daily life, shall e’er prevail against us, or disturb our cheerful faith that all which we behold is full of blessings. ...
The temperatures here have been way above average for the past week and it does feel like summer, so this song hits like a cold glass of lemonade during this heatwave.
