Great information. However, TVP is not just made from soy, but also from other legumes/vegetables like peas and sunflower seeds. Hence the name. Textured Vegetable Protein. Also, since soy is not tolerated well by everybody it is nice to know that there are alternatives.

Where I live in Mexico you can buy in bulk for less than $1 per lb.
