  • I want to get really specific about the insidious forces that hold women back financially, based on my real, lived experiences. I think that many of you will be able to relate, so I'm putting myself out there in the hopes that it will make you feel heard and less alone. If you've ever felt marginalized because of your gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or whatever, I feel you. So grab a cup of tea and let's have some real talk!

Hi Rose. I’m a 54 year old dad. I’m currently trying to educate my son (17) and daughter (14) about money. Your videos are a great resource to help me with that.
On top of that I’m opening my daughter’s eyes to what true independence means. That is, never be reliant on a man. I will be sure to get her to watch this.
I’m always looking for strong, smart female role models. You are firmly on that list.
    Thank you.

I recently started to listen to your content because you seem very genuine and humble. Many if not most financial content feels like it’s all about themselves. It almost feels dirty, like I’m enabling their ego driven narcissism. Also I have to have my guard up and put more effort on filtering because they are just throwing their agenda at you. I do believe you have to take everything in the social media with a grain of salt. But those that are trying sell their agenda (whether they realize that they are doing that or not), I’d have take with good dose of salt. But I listen to them as well because I try to listen to all kinds of people to hear different opinions.
I’m glad you are posting this type of content. It helps me understand the perspectives of my wife and daughter better. This will be a video I will be sharing with them.

This content is recycled intersectionality garbage. She’ll have you reading Bell Hooks nonsense before long.
Her investing advice is no different than everyone else’s on here. I read her little books and they are trash bullet points thrown together after doing 1 hour of research online. I also watched this grifter push the magic formula book (horrible book by the way) on her subs without a care in the world. She claims to be this stock trader, but where are the receipts?

You're an inspiration :) I have worked in tech and am learning how to invest so I know what it's like to be a woman in traditionally "male" fields. The microaggressions , the negative assumptions of my competency, the dismissals of my opinions, the interruptions - it's been a lot, over so many years. So many men I've talked to about this get defensive and say "well, _I_ don't treat women badly, why do I have to feel guilty" and are content with doing nothing, not realizing that doing nothing is a tacit approval of the current system. You are so brave for speaking out, knowing that you're going to get hate for it. I hope that one day I have the ability to further progress women's issues the way you do!

@@ronallan8680 Dude....have you heard the complaints male UA-camrs have made about their trolls/critics? They can be quite sensitive about it too. Rose wasn't even complaining, she was merely pointing out that a stranger using her hair color, instead of her content and financial background, to judge whether or not he could trust her, is rooted in cultural biases about what traits are more valuable in a woman (looks, instead of substance). That belief is sexist, and unjustly holds many women back professionally.
Just like how your comment generalizing UA-camr sensitivity along gender lines, is rooted in preconceived notions about women and emotions. Check your own implicit bias Ron.

Mostly no. If women on the internet would only get messages like "You suck and you're gay", they wouldn't talk about it. Men get that all the time and it doesn't affect them (unless they're as sensitive as these women you speak of...)

In his 2012 re-election run, an ad for President Barack Obama claimed "Women (are) paid 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men." That rated Mostly False.
But Obama retooled his words in his 2014 State of the Union address, saying women "still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns." That rated Mostly True.
The difference in Obama’s two statements is subtle but important. The 77-cent figure derived from a federal government measure does not apply to men and women who do the same job. Instead it refers to the average disparity between what men and women earn, period. All women’s earnings compared to all men’s earnings.
    Your audience deserves the truth.

Rose, you are transforming my life. I only listen to women teach me about money because I was born in 1960 and men sure didn’t bother. Like so many of us back then, we were kept away from money and men controlled all the finances. Women were not trusted with money or considered not intelligent enough to handle it. Wives were given “pin money” and children given allowances. We were never encouraged in math or science because it was understood we would never need it, except basic measures for cooking and sewing.
I’m finally a small business owner and I’ve got lots of savings and investments and a lot of that is the education I got from you. I feel cheated by patriarchy in my life and I never saw women even begin working in business outside of secretarial roles until the 1980’s - but it used to be worse. My grandmother couldn’t even vote until she was in her late 20’s.
Not enough women talk about this and it has to stop.Women must be financially strong or they must depend on men in situations that can be abusive or otherwise miserable. We must stop this cycle of learned helplessness with women and money.
You are a trailblazer and a very important example for all women. Thank you for helping me turn my financial life around and giving me the education and confidence to take control!!

Here’s some macro aggressions for men backed by stats:
Women go to college at a 60/40 rate
Women file divorce 70% of the time
Women receive custody 80% of the time
Women receive alimony 90% of the time
Men commit suicide at an 80/20 rate
Men die at war and at work at a 98% rate
I would argue that for the last 50 years America has not had a patriarchal society and it’s part of the reason we are in societal free fall. Being a strong and independent woman is fine so long as you have a government (taxpayers) behind you later in life. That’s not going to happen for many in the us the way birth rates are trending.
The real reasons why many women can’t get ahead financially boils down to three things:
1.) Impulsivity. Women are more prone to this because you have governments or families willing to help you when you falter. Men don’t typically get this and learn the hard way.
2.) Poor mate selection. Having kids with a bum is a guaranteed way to poverty. Not having a strong father in the home has accelerated this.
3.) Debt. Women own 67% of college debt and most consumer debt. You can’t build wealth when you keep giving it away to others because of poor planning or impulse control.
Good luck with your channel. I won’t support nonsensical SJW ideologies that advance societal decay and increase division between the sexes. Mansplaining over.

Psychology today actual wrote a really amazing article about how men are more likely to be internet trolls and it's actually linked to loneliness, which also explains why more men (typically white men) are more likely to commit suicide. A lot of men who spew vile and hate are actually fighting their own demons. Many feel disrespected and ignored in the real world and they come on the internet to troll people who have attained knowledge they could never possess or women they feel entitled to have that would never want them. I'm not excusing their behavior but many of them are simply miserable. Please just know that you are amazing and your content is so necessary. I love that you're an Asian woman doing your thing.

Its easy to be a victim when you don't do nothing and make excuses. Honestly, take all of these micro agreesive things you said put it in a man's mouth and he'll be told to "Man up and do something about it"
Excuses are what they are, excuses and yeah im with ya today's era there is no excuse for women or any one really in America. MY mother grew up in the 60's and time she retired she was no longer the driver for her company she was part owner...Excuses bore me honestly..

Women have been in charge of the household finances in my family for over 3 generations on both sides, so at least pre1900. Great grandmother in early 1900s was a mayor and later ran a old folks home at 80. I grew up with the mentality that nothing stops you no matter what others say. You define you and that's your responsibility. Others don't know better or are disrespectful and lazy. All must prove themselves in their journey.

The world is imperfect and will be. Stop tagging people and playing a victim. Stay strong on your way in pursuing your goals. Work on building the greatest version of yourself. Be honest to yourself and recognize your own mistakes. And you will succeed in your sense of success. Everything you have presented happens to everyone and with everyone. Your reaction depends on what you focus on and how experienced and wise you are. If you have a problem in your life - deal with it (not just talk about it). Sometimes people are too sensitive and over emotional about things, which really do no have any negative or even positive influence in their lives. You should stop generalizing everything and start living your genuine life. And remember: money is a tool....your mental picture about something is an illusion you have created...

What I really liked about this video is your admission that gender and maybe some racial bias' are not necessarily intentional and a product of our human nature and flaws in society and culture. Until we acknowledge these bias' exist and and understand how they effect our attitudes and decision making, we cant eradicate them however, through your willingness to discuss these topics on your platform, you are contributing tremendously to their eradication. • @CertifiedGenius007

    1. Wage gap has been debunked a bazillion times.
    2. Equality of opportunity is what we should strive for than equality of outcome. You won't see a 50-50 in literally every field, there will be fields that are dominated by men, and some by women. It has everything to do with male and females being physiologically different (different, doesn't mean unequal).
    3. Glass ceiling, mansplaining etc. are quite often used as cop outs to avoid fair arguments on a case by case basis. This video, rather than promoting equality, reeks of self-validation and promotes justification for failures. A man is not selected for a CEO position, 'because' he is male. He is selected because he is qualified. If a female is qualified for it, but still isn't selected, then yes, I agree, that is a problem of inequality. Tagging everything that men say, that doesn't reflect your own opinion, as mansplaining is backward and ridiculous.
    4. Money is not the only source of validation. The whole reason the family system is crumbling in the western world, is because of the mentality that every work is to be validated by money and somehow being dependent is demonic and dangerous. You put two individuals who are independent and you expect the marriages to succeed? You want a business partner instead of a life partner? Being in the house, cooking and cleaning for YOUR OWN husband, to enable him to being the breadwinner, a successful go-getter and fulfilling all your and family's needs IS a healthy relationship, as well. It shouldn't be criminalized. The best you can say, is that, it didn't work for you, instead of propagandizing it. Dependency is what makes a successful marriage because both partners need each other - physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually. It's not just goods and services.
    5. The only thing I agree in this video, is that the fashion industry is incredibly demanding and fooling both men and women, by setting and evolving beauty standards constantly to make both feel plugged in and insecure. That is their way of advertising and selling products. If you feel beautiful inherently, why would you ever obsessively buy products? However, both men and women are suckers for social validation and hence perpetuates this as a vicious cycle.

I remember as a kid thinking it was unfair that men were addressed as Mr. ,regardless of their marital status, yet women were either Miss or Mrs. which let everyone know if they were married or not. Who's business is that anyway; some stranger you just met? As soon as Ms was introduced into everyday language I started using it. I use it to this day despite being married for 4 decades!
Another way I have tried to level the playing field is when I am voting. I do keep up on the national level but when it comes to voting in judges, local political appointments, etc.,I do not know much about them. In those cases, I ALWAYS vote for the woman candidate. I have shared this with many of my friends and they have decided to follow suit to give women a fighting chance.

I have to admit, I don't actually care when it comes from a guy. I've met all sorts and I've always bested them at their own game, even if it was exhausting. However where it does hurt is when it comes from another woman. There is nothing worse than watching one woman tear down another woman for absolutely no valid reason. It's something that I have witnessed in families, work environments and social events. Nothing makes me doubt myself harder than when it comes from another woman. I believe to a large degree that it would also help, if women would rally behind each other and have each other's backs.

Thank you for bringing the systemic lens to this conversation. Patriarchy hurts men too. I can sense a huge shift in women being more engaged & more confident with money. I work in FS (advice) and can honestly say there are humble men in financial services that don't patronise women, do seek them out. Arrogance & patronising talk is such a turn-off. Great video, well delivered! Certainly share in your vision for a just, safe, progressive world that works for the needs of all genders.

I came across your videos recently, and I find it sooo refreshing to see a woman, who also just happens to be asian like me, talking about finance because nearly every video I’ve watched on finance was always with white men.

Thank you very much for this talk, you said a lot of things I hadn't been paying much attention to but I really needed to hear. For example, I had never heard about micro aggressions, but they make a lot of sense now! You also reinforced my desire to create a UA-cam channel to share my journey towards financial independence 💪

I loved your message. I asked my high school teacher, ' when do we learn about making money and investments?' he told me to go to college....
Education is the key, like you said, ' money is not taught in schools' and neither is equality. Cheer leaders and jocks is the only thing important to most in high schoolers, (and being popular) when it should be money (long term income) and a healthy life (stress free) for you and your partner.
My family NEVER talks about money, sex or religion. Our parents are only doing what there parents showed them, cycles take a long time to change.
    P. S. I love your pink hair, worth every penny.
