I love your philosophy of beginners starting with easier plants to build confidence. I think this can be applied to a lot of things. When you have small wins at the beginning, you'll be less likely to quit!
Absolutely!! Well said :) when I first started collecting plants, I made the the mistake of buying plants just based on their looks and I ended up killing them. Lessons learned. 😅
i have 2 Hoyas 8 wrinkel for 8 months now and yesterday the first flowers are opened and they are really beautiful. it was really a surprise for me because I thought that young Hoyas had to be at least 2 years old before the started to give flowers, but he iam not complaining because the flowers are just amazing. ps your plants look really beautiful greetings from a truly plant geek from the Nederlands
Love your hoyas i have all of the ones you shared except the hoya Iris mari and l love how you explain about the easy care ,the growth rate and price thank you and keep sharing 😊
I enjoyed the video Amanda. I bought my 3 pubicalyx from The Violet Barn in 2 inch pots 3 years ago and boy were they tiny and in my opinion they have grown well for me. These were my first Hoyas. I also bought a nice size hanging basket of the crimson queen and the crimson princess locally and they both have done well for me. I’ve since added several more small Hoyas to my collection and am very excited that my new little Bella has 2 peduncles. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’m going to add the Miami pubicalyx and maybe the Australis to my collection.
Thank you!!! Pubicalyx is definitely super fun and easy to grow, and there are tons of varieties too! I am glad you found some new species you want to try! I really appreciate your support!! Happy growing!
I paid $20 for the krimson queen in a 4in pot. So I've repot in a 5in terra cotta pot and its really loving it.. I let it dry out completely between the watering. I bought a different( don't know the name) one in 4in pot $6.. I'm trying them out! Its exciting 😘😘
I have to agree about the queen/princess. My queen has thrown such a fit after I got it in the mail compared to the princess who is a freaking champ. And your princess is just stunning 😍
I start Hoya in February. I have Australis (my favourite), krimson queen, krimson princess, compacta, royal Hawaiian purple, publicalyx pink silver. Irish Marie is pretty rare in Australia . Around 80 % of my house plant are Hoya ❤️😜👍
I appreciate the recommendations. I have an Australis that is very happy with very minimal care ( mine are outside) and a crimson princess. Also growing with vigor. I think I’ve been under watering bc I’m paranoid about root rot but my hoyas are all quite small and in small pots, some terracotta and I think I need to stop being afraid and up my watering game in these 80-90 degree temps.
Awe thank you so much for your support !! Hoya is addictive (the good kind though!) 😆😆😆 Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I really appreciate the support! ❤
I'm getting a pubicayx "red buttons". Australis, Bella, carnosa, Polyneura fishtail and Minibelle. I agree about getting the easier varieties to gain confidence.
Interesting, in Eastern Europe, a hoya cutting oscilates between 5 and 20 dollars. For expample a rooted potted polyneura splash was 7 dollars and fresh cutting of caudata 10 dollars. I bought a smaller mathilde plant also for 7 and regular carnosa is for free as every grandma has it. I cannot believe the prices in the US. I get when you buy a big plant, you pay 30 dollars but sometimes small cuttings go for so much.
I grow Hoya mainly for foliage, since I only have the space to grow them indoor. I have flowered a few of them such as the caudata, plachyclada, benitotanii, sp. EPC-376 etc. You can see them on my IG =)
Really great, loved your video. You have so much good info! I decided to get myself a Hoya Carnosa Krimson Princess for my first Hoya. I really hope it does well when it arrived 😊 never had a Hoya before,
Hey Amanda, how did you trellis up your publicalyx like that circularly? I would love to see a video on trellising and when to know if a tendril is not trellisable? (e.g. if it has been hardened off, yellowed etc.)
I bought that one already trellised, so I can't take credit for that. 😅 But yes! I'll do a video on how to trellis Hoya for sure! Thank you for your support and suggestions! 🙏🏼❤😊
Your hoyas are beautiful as are you! I love and collect them, including a carnosa compacta (hindu rope) which is absolutely gorgeous.. Some of the other hoyas have tendrils that are 3 feet long! I am anxiously awaiting their sprouting new leaves. They are the most beautiful and miraculous plants, and you are right, easy to care for and propagate. Thanks for your wonderful, informative video.
Thanks for the tips! I just got a couple of hoya carnosas the other day, a regular one and a krimson queen which I mistook as a krimson princess, so it should be interesting to see how it fares given this is my first time to grow hoyas after exclusively collecting sanseverias.
@@amandalaw7131 You are absolutely right. From having 2 small hoyas a couple of weeks ago, I now have 8! Added H. mindorensis, hindu rope, verticillata, cagayanensis, and obscura coming from different parts of the Philippines. Plus I am waiting on a cumingiana and a multiflora on their way. Once you get the hoya kick, there's really no going back! 🤣
Awwww…. That’s an awesome tutorial video Amanda. I just started liking and buying Hoyas’ just these summer. So far I have Hoya carnosa tricolor. The variegation though is on the outside which is white and pink. The other one that I just bought last from my neighborhood was a Hoya Pubicalyx. I am pretty excited to watch them grow and one day they will bloom 💓💓💓🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you!! Yes I do have a soil mix for my Hoya. It's 60% bark, 30% perlite and 10% cactus mix. I'll for sure do Hoya care video soon! Really appreciate your support! ❤❤❤
Hi I really enjoyed your video. Lots of helpful info. Now I’m binge watching your videos since I recently really got into hoyas! Thanks for taking time to make these videos. Just subscribed! 😃
Do the leaves on the Pubicaylix have purple leaves when the leaves are young? I recently bought a Hoya Pubicaylix that was marked "Pubicaylix Splash" but it looks EXACTLY like your Purple Hawaiian. Purplish, narrow leaves. Compared to your Splash, I think I got a Purple Hawaiian. That's just fine with me. I like the look of the Purple Hawaiian better.
I’m jealous seeing other people do well with them. I tried Hoya Bella three times already and I just kept killing it. I’m in Hawaii and even a friend of mine that has a big collection struggle with it too
@@lokaforhoya5919 I know how you feel! A lot of time if a plant is easy or not really depends on individual environment. For example, polyneura does well in cooler environment, and that's why it does good at where I live, where temperature is constantly around 60 to 70°F. However, it does not do well in Hawaii, even if it's in experienced collector's hands. You're doing fine. Just need to find the ones that do well in your environment. 😊
just came across your page and would like to know what kind of trellis you have that beautiful Hoya pubicalyx Royal Hawaiian Purple on? all of these plants are so beautiful and healthy-looking
There are a lot of possible reasons for a Hoya to get yellow leaves. If it's an isolated incident and it is just the older leaves, it could the natural cycle. Otherwise, it could be anything from nutrient deficiency to toot rot. I recommend you to check the roots first. If the roots looks good, then you might want to fertilize.

Hoya fungii is very beginner friendly hoya also. Hoya pubicalyx, carnosa and fungii are my favorites! Excellent video and information!❤❤❤
