    Good stuff John! Love the criteria change! I love this set and also have been buying some of the Burger King versions

      Thanks! I like the Burger King versions too but only own a couple that are ungraded.

    As someone who buys graded baseball cards from the 60s and 70s almost if not daily, I can attest that the prices shown are pretty dang spot on to what you will see on ebay when people are being realistic with prices. A trustworthy source, for sure.

    The list is spot on. # 413 the Reggie highlight and the Nolan Ryan record breaker #6? are also difficult to get when completing a set.

      Thanks Jonathan! Yes they are. I think it took me a little while to pick them in the grade and eye appeal I wanted for my PSA HOF run from the 78 set.

      You can go to PSA's website (www.psacard.com) and look up population numbers. You don't need an account. It's free for people to look them up.

    Great list. I thought Murray would be number one. I like the new methodology

      Thanks Russel! I think you could make the case that the Murray should be #1, especially given the price of his PSA 10 copy.

    Brooks Robinson 1978 record breakers for an 8 37.00 for a 9 76.00 a 10 810.00
    9. George Brett in an 8 39.00 in a 9 523.00 in a 10 12,600
    8. Rod carew in a 8 40.00 in a 9 389.00 in a 10 2,691
    7. Thurman Munson in an 8 41.00 in a 9 138.00 in a 10 2,064 ,
    6.. Lou Whitaker rookie in an 8 44.00 in a 9 171.00 in a 10 1,761
    5.. Dave Parker in an 8 47.00 in a 9 240.00 in a 10 3,602
    4.. Mr. October in an 8 61.00 iin a 9 289.00 in a 10 7,667.00
    3.. Nolan Ryan an 8 160.00 a 9 2.705 a 10 14,899
    2. Eddie Murray in an 8 163.00 in a 9 970.00 in a 10 40,383,
    1.. Trammell/ Molitor in an 8 166.00 in a 9 1,361 in a 10 30,300
    now some questions
    1. just curious how much is a Ryan his base not record breakers but his base worth in a 1 or an authentic ?
    2. who's smoking their happy dust George Brett in a 10 12,600 in Kansas City his card isn't worth half that much? in New York and southern California
    nobody is spending that much for a 10 I can see 3,500 for a 10. Mike is a very smart guy about cards so is James Beckett do you think those 2 would spend 12,600 for that card?
    3.. Love Munson 2nd greatest catcher of all time but 41.00 is kind of high I can see about 4 bucks?
    4. . Ryan his 1978 isn't worth 160.00 in La not happening in Anaheim not 160.00 I would say maybe 50.00 or 75.00 now his 1972 I can see 160.00 for an 8 but not his 1978?
    5. so which cards do you think most collectors would rather have Tom Seaver 1980 for 600.00 , Bench for 612.00 , Rice for 660.00
    or 1978 Dave Parker for 47.00 Nolan Ryan for 160 Trammell/ Molitor for 166.00 I know it's a difference of 2 grades but still and their older cards don't forget to take in consideration location like Idaho, Wyoming , Utah ect ?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  Рік тому

      1. The latest PSA 1 Ryan sold for $7.50.
      2. While 99.9% of us would not spend that much for a PSA 10 Brett, there are some out there who have lots more money than we do and who want the highest graded copy of a card. The Brett that sold for $12,600 was an auction that had 35 bids. So obviously there was more than one person who was willing to pay that much for that card. In fact, after I did my video, someone paid $16,000 for a PSA 10. So there are people (not many, but a few) who are willing to pay those prices.
      3. If you are talking about an ungraded copy of the Munson then yes, maybe around $4. But graded cards always sell for more than ungraded cards.
      4. I can understand why you might not want to pay that much for a graded Ryan card, but again, the prices I list aren't what some people say it is worth, but what people have actually paid for that card. So someone must have thought that the Ryan was worth $160. There have been about 50 PSA 8 copies sold this year and the range in price has been between $108 and $188.
      5. That's hard for me to say. It would all depend on what interest a particular collector had. We all have different cards that we like more than others. And some care more for the grade of the card than others. And some have more money to spend on cards than others.

      1. a 1978 in a 1 or Authentic creased I wouldn't pay 7.50 even though it's a Ryan it's still a 1978. I would probably pay I got it from a store with other cards and put it in silly grab bag 1 of my co workers has that card so if I was going to get another copy maybe a 1.00 dollar. but your answer is fine 7.50 .
      3. it shouldn't matter whether the card has a number on it or not I know what you said in the past it prevents from somebody saying ohh the card is an 7 no the card is a 9 so it prevents arguements but condition is condition A Munson is in the neighbor hood of 4.00
      would you pay more for a card in a 2 graded say for example 1979 Bench or a card in a card saver that looks very nice only 2 nicks of the corners we can say near Mint which would you pay more for?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  11 місяців тому

      To answer your question it's hard to say. I'm not interested in buying any cards that are not graded right now unless it's one that is hard to find a graded copy of. So I would not buy a 79 Bench in a 2 nor would I buy an ungraded copy that looks like it's near mint. I'd look for a copy that is graded that has nice eye appeal and is a reasonable price regardless of what grade it is.

    These videos crush me. I had 10 full sets of this year and when prices started going way up in the early 90s I sold thinking I was doing the right thing.
    I dont even want to know what a PSA 9 Walter Payton is worth now smh

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  5 місяців тому

      Well it all comes down to the condition of the cards. So many of the 78s are off-center or have ink smudges. The Murray rookie is really hard to find well-centered and the Molitor/Trammell rookie almost always has some ink smudges for some reason. And a 1978 Topps Walter Payton in a PSA 9 usually sells for around $375.

      @WadeBoggsFan I still have the voice in my head, when I handed him the Walter Payton, "WOW....this is the nicest Payton rookie card I've ever seen". Smh

    I have some of them how to grade them

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  3 місяці тому

      The two main grading companies for vintage cards are PSA and SGC. If you look up their websites (www.psacard.com and www.gosgc.com) there are instructions on how you can send in cards for grading and the cost.

    The vcp price must be off on the molitor rookie. Psa 8 goes for around $200-225

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  Рік тому

      I went by the average VCP price. But even the recent high price is $190. Back in early July there was one BIN sale for $225 and another one in early June for a BIN of $225. Those were the only ones to sell over $200 in the last 3 months.

    Thanks for sharing, John. Surprised Eddie Murray didn't make #1, as he's probably the most sought after card in the set.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  Рік тому

      Yeah his is probably the most collected card from the set. But that has also resulted in a much larger POP for some of his grades so there’s plenty of supply out there with the exception of his 10s. So a lot has to do with the availability compared to the other players to some extent.

    Great list John! The '78 Andre Dawson Gold Cup couldn't have been too far behind Brooks. So many great looking cards in this set

      Thanks Jimmy! I can think of a lot of cards that were probably within $5-$10 of the top 10 like Bench, Rose, Dawson, Yaz, etc. The 78 set is my favorite as that was the first year I started buying baseball cards as a kid.

    Great job John. That Reggie card is a classic, one of his best IMO. Thanks for all the work you do putting these together, looking forward to the 77 list.
