Now I'm inspired. Pulling my r154 apart tomorrow. By the way thanks for the tip on the electrical harness work from Justin Collins, took some searching but I did find him on Facebook and he's reworking my harness. (would be cool if he got in finished within the next century 😂) Cheers man
Well at least it's not a T50 or a W58. R154's can be cool to keep, just depends who's shifting them lol. I'm rebuilding mine as we speak. How much do they go for used, where you live? Cheers!
I remember Rebuilding mine with Upgraded Syncros for 1st n 2nd Gear for better downshifts. @10:14 Those 'Tick Tack looking metal" or elongated ball bearings lol. Be sure that you put them back the right places and setup as you may rebuild it and go in reverse but may not come out. Had to Re-open ours n found out it was the layout. Luckily for pictures 😂. those things are mucho important @TheRabidRB you can get a rebuild kit on Ebay or Driftmotion.com also with the upgraded syncros. Got mine off ebay Item # 200838143918 . You can also get your Marlin Crawler Shift Gears off driftmotion if you like. the Rebuild kit itself is cheaper off ebay and comes with the same NGK & Nachi Bearings. You will need a press to press the old ones out. As you're this far might as well put new bearing on there n rebuild it for $135us ... but yes thos Elongated Ball Bearings are very important for the gears so don't lose them
I'm going to sub , but be aware. Wannabe calls it a detent. I'm doing this for a second time. Have the marlin crawler upgrades . 2 of my synchros got stuck on the gear. Hence shifting wasn't gonna happen.
hey man i just bought an r154, that needs an input shaft bearing could i just use a puller to get it off once i take the casing on the input shaft side off and then heat one up in the oven and slide it on?
When you take the casing off the whole input shaft will come out, so you can mess with it out of the trans. The bearing will be tight enough that it'll break removing it, so you'll have to cut it the rest. Put the new bearing in your kitchen oven at like 280 degrees for an hour and it'll slide on
@@RabidJz ok dope man thank you where can i getaother bearing? and do i need to take ou tthose springs and little metal balls? also do i need to take both halfs off or just the one side? I would rather not take both sides off if i dont need too plus i have seen people use pullers on the input shaft bearing i would prefer that if possible thanks!
@@RabidJz so the steps i would take to do only the imput shaft bearing would be unscrew the torques bolts and get the springs and shims out of the holes, then take off the bell housing and bearing cover on the input shaft side after all the retainers are hour i can split the casing ONLY on the input shaft side then after I can cut off the old bearing or try to pull it off with a puller, heat up the new bearing and slide it on where the old one was? and then do all the other shit in reverse? Oh and do i start the tear down with the trans in neautral??
@Rabin JZ im in the process of installing my extened shifter housing but now it seems like its stuck in gear. i made sure to have the forks aligned but it doesnt want to go into gear. i tried turning the engine by hand and noticed the output shaft spinning in the opposite direction (stuck in reverse?) got any advice?
You pressed it into gear while putting the tail housing on. You need to make sure the shift rods inside don't get pressed in by the tail housing when you install. Go slow
Another thing, if it's pressed into gear, you Will NOT be able to move the shifter as the it's locked because the trans is already in gear and the detent balls lock you out.
I turned this box into a dogbox, still running it to this day. Stop by the channel and check out the 1000hp beast.
I'm about to tear down my 154 to put in a PGS formula gearset and your vids have been mint :)
Thanks one the best video on here ..I didn't know where that little pin came from was just doing mine today .thanks again
Bro been looking for videos on R154s and they’re so harddd to come by thanks for the help!
"Repair" lol. Get the feeling of impending marlin crawler upgrades. Should be sweet
Guess we'll find out 😉😉😉
Im about to tackle this project with marlin crawler parts. The way you name and describe the parts is hilarious
I didn't know the specific names at the time lol

He's a pretty busy guy, but his work is honest lol
Thanks for sharing this with us! Great info.

Like 1400 lol, kinda expensive
Just subbed, and thank you so much for the video ! It makes me hope I never break a trans, I'd probably jjust buy another one given the hastle lol
Thanks for the sub. It's not so bad when you get into it, but I do understand where you're coming from
dude I just helped my mate tear down his w58 and I was looking at that shifter housing and thinking wtf that aint right for a 154 hahah
Oh yeah, this housing was a modified w58 one😂😂😂, idk what the precious owner was thinking
the "ball bearing" is called a detent and detent spring
Lol, thanks. I literally had no idea what it was called
@@RabidJz also the gear that you called "reverse gear" is the reverse idler gear
I knew that, I mean technically it is the reverse gear, cause it's what reverses the gear
What's the tic tac thing for
@@RabidJz it's another detent

I put the spring and ball bearing in backwards and it wouldn't shift lol
Thanks for the detailed video, gonna help me alot with my rebuild! Do you still have any of the parts for sale as you mentioned?
I do lol
@@RabidJz Really? Like the countershaft, third gear and a fork perhaps? (Someone had a lot of fun with my gearbox at some point lol)
I have all of that lol
@@RabidJz I messaged you on Instagram!
thanks!
Hey! You still have those gears and counter shaft?
If the R154 was a Pokémon, I’d try to catch em all
Lol, seeing how they're a luck of the grab, I agree

Hey, so I either have a JDM R154 or JDM W58, the pics I've seen are really similar. Any idea how I can find out without pulling it?
The ribs on the center of the case. The bell housing will have 2 massive holes on one side and the other if it's r154
@@RabidJz You're the best! I'll look at the pics I took and see if I can tell 😁 Gonna scream if it's an R154
@@RabidJz Sent you pics on Insta if you get time to check them out. The shifter mount is totally different from the W's and even your R154

Not to change the bearing on the clutch side shaft
You literally remove the bell and the front cover that's it
Fine!!!!!!! Lol 😂 🤙🏽
What are the pros of the hydraulic throw out bearing?
I have to have it for a twin disk. If you have a pull type clutch, you can't run it
That makes sense thanks! Great video gonna help me in the future when I go to rebuild mine!
Thank you! 😊

@@RabidJz how do i get it out of gear and essentially back into nuetral
The shift rods that you touch in the videos on your post, need to be pulled and all equal
@@RabidJz yes in the vid they all look to be aligned, and it feels like they can no longer move anymore
A whole bunch of useless info. Thnx
🥰Thanks.
