I’m familiar with replacing front seals and tail shaft seals and an input shaft here and there or getting the tranny out of the way to do what I do best on engines. But when it comes to the gears and ratios or the ports or diagnosing issues inside the tranny, I might as well be a green hand. Just came across your channel...very impressive. One piece of info that you shared was to learn, which reminded me of when I was a young teenager back in the late sixties and working after school hours and on the weekends in a corner gas station, the ones that still had repairs bays and mechanics. During the evenings, a Transmission Specialist who worked at a local Dealership would take on side work and rent one of the bays at the gas station and the vehicle he was repairing would be brought in during the afternoon and aside from attending the gas pumps, I was to prep the vehicle and have the transmission ready to drop when the Transmission Specialist arrived after 5pm. I always kept my face and hands right beside the job he was doing and did I ever learn a lot from him, also he delighted in the fact that I was eager to learn about transmission repair ( wasn’t expecting to be paid to help and did not get paid as he shared his knowledge and skills freely to teach ). His teaching skills were great which made everything easy to learn and remember...which I also find the same skill and presentation in your videos. Thank you.

i love how your newer videos start with you coming out from another room like the tv shows from the 90s. "Hi I'm Stacey Rekt and on this weeks episode of Rat Rodz TV, we'll be putting the heads on Project Wicked Willies 572 big block." XD
Shade Tree Mechanics was a fav of mine.
The Maestro. Need I say more. And of course I'm far away in little 'ol Delaware. Your honesty integrity and true hard work ethic are such a treat. WE need more like you guys. I might be able to tinker around with cars and all but a man like Richard has forgotten more than I'll ever know. Just awesome. And his quiet humble nature is even better. Like watching a surgeon at work.
Imagine getting to watch the transmission professor tear down your transmission. It would be awesome!
He just said as much. He's replying to some of these comments.
I’m not going to act like a know even 1/3 when it comes to the inner workings of a transmission. I’m familiar with replacing front seals and tail shaft seals and an input shaft here and there or getting the tranny out of the way to do what I do best on engines. But when it comes to the gears and ratios or the ports or diagnosing issues inside the tranny, I might as well be a green hand.
Watching your channel has simplified things and taught me stuff I had no idea about. It’s easy to sit down after a long day and be on your channel 3 hours and not realize. But when you’re watching someone take pride in their craft and having an immense understanding of what they’re doing is mesmerizing to me. You also explain it so clearly and respectfully. Find myself going “ahh okay, now I see” at least once or twice on every video I’ve watched
Witnessing god like work at around 11:03 when it seems like a trillion pieces fall outta part and the man don't skip a beat.
Australia checking in - love these videos. Richard is a artist.
Thanks for watching
I must be learning something. When the valve body came off with hardly any fluid showing on the gaskets I suspected a lubricant failure somewhere. Blown pump, bingo.
But the pump wasn't blown up.
Kinda like guessing the bad guy on tv show
As a weekend mechanic who has installed and rebuilt a variety of car and boat motors, this guy is at the top of his game in the world of transmission repair. Very rare to see this type of talent.
Eric O. at South Main Auto channel says, "every tool has a hammer side."
Richard never says a bad word about another transmission mechanic. He just points out what they didn't do properly, or should have done but didn't do. Hopefully those responsible for the failed build are paying attention and will try to do better next time.
Dame I wish I had 10% of the knowledge this guy has on transmissions
Tons of Knowledge, Fast, and skillful.....a true Master at his craft! I hate I gave away my TH400 core now....
You’re know when you’re doing something right when a guy brings you the 4th transmission after he shipped 3 already to be built. Richard has a God given talent and Blessed Beyond Measure.
nothing god did here, its doing thousands of them........you get good by doing, not praying ffs
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 God made you now honor him with your tongue
A screwdriver has many functions. I'm a industrial mechanic. I enjoy watching another professional that does things the right way. Keep up the good work.
Woooooo! Thanks for another awesome video. 🙏 ✌️
Richard and Trent another excellent video. Thanks for sharing 👍 Artie
Hey I’ll tell ya, a 400’s pan looks like an outline of Texas w/extra room for Amarillo.
Thank you.
Richard open a transmission school.
I am 55 and would gladly pay to learn from you
In am a wrench, just never got into transmissions
I’m 65 and I would like to attend.
I’m 56 and I pay to learn from him
@@LazloNQ I would pay to learn from him
@@LazloNQyou would pay what he charges.
This guy is something else. I have never seen anyone rip something apart that fast and randomly toss bolts and pieces all over the place. Especially with something as complicated as a transmission. I cant stop watching. And the best part is, you know he can put it back together blindfolded.
Every tool has a hammer side. Yep, learned that from SMA.
The amount of knowledge this man has with transmissions is a joy to watch
So, this feller got himself a "built" transmission, but in reality, it was just a fluid/filter change. Too many old and tired parts still in there.
Taking something apart , and putting it back together is building ,isn't it 🤔
It's built 🤣🤣🤣
Maybe the" I pick stuff up and put it down" guy did the build.
@@MrTheHillfolk Haha, that guy truly was a "lunk." ;-)
MrHillfolk Nah, thats disassemble and reassemble. Got have casting to actually build transmission.
lots of work done to it,much of it done right but because too much constant high pressure it burnt up..this was actually a good build, just not set up to idle
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 I'm not an expert, but I take Richard's word over yours that this "build" wasn't anything nearly "good." Many old parts which should have been changed out.
I learn so much watching these videos.
I would like to see Richard assemble a transmission.
Search for: Precision Transmission build video. He has uploaded 3 build videos.
@@alstuart Thanks!
@@alstuart 3 build videos out of how many. He's getting torn down in blogs about this and other questionable methods he uses.
@@snickerdoodleduke Richard has explained why he doesn't make more build videos. He can film a teardown video in a single take and minimal editing. It takes hours to film a build video, and it requires a lot of editing. That's time they aren’t working on transmissions.
@@alstuart hes making big money off the 100,000 subscribers he has. Thats a BS excuse.
I tried “rebuilding” my 4l80e and installing a brake, I’m a bit nervous to go test it lol
Wish you the best luck! Rebuilt the 60e in my lil nitrous truck. Haven’t beat on it but it drives nice.
Then after that I built a glide for my ws6. Went 6.5 at 107mph first pass with the new tranny. It’s a good feeling when you let go of the button and you still have your feet 🤣🤣
I can just hear customers all over the country saying "Rebuild this transmission proper, otherwise I am driving it to Amarillo and will let Richard of Precision Transmission show the entire whole world what you did and did not do"
Richard might not give out the name of the prior shop, but it wouldn't stop the customer from adding it to the comments.
Richard is doing everyone a big favor. Proper work requires skill, experience and know how. Richard makes it look easy, but he has paid his dues, advanced his knowledge and developed his own tricks to serve best the customer.
How about getting a microphone on Trent so we can better hear the interaction between you guys?
That is a great idea
This channel came out of the blue to me! I like what he says about getting the kids to watch. Couldn't agree more. Who knows where that could lead.
I guess the Milwaukee checks have cleared.
I wonder if the first anonymous impact was from Milwaukee factory? Very smart of them if it was.
I enjoy watching and listening to anyone that knows their gift and shares it. After 30 years of automotive mechanics, I still hate R&R. All I ever built were manual gearboxes and Warner Velvet Drive ski boat transmissions. I am confident my first 4L60E build will be successful and durable. Thanks guys.
Anything can be used as a hammer if you use it wrong enough!
Lol 😆
My olds silhouette power sliding door was stuck, I got annoyed so I hit the door with the spare tire..... It opened 🤷🤣🤣🤣🤣
Finally a master mechanic on UA-cam this guy knows his stuff.
That guy could have been more enthusiastic in the beginning. He could have pugged his demo derby team, where they race/crash/bash, next event, and his socials
You been watching long? Took Richard awhile to get comfortable with the camera. He doesn’t have much of a social media presence. He a good ole boy. The whole social media etiquette thing is probably something he ain’t even aware of
I don’t like being on camera so I was nervous. I don’t have a team. I do it all on my own basically. A few friends help me when they can. It’s hard to tell when I will run a car next. Covid canceled a lot of shows last year. Hopefully I will get to try out at least one transmission this year a few times.
@@jasonbernhardt1613 I hear you! you could get a million views! you would be more famous than most HGTV cable shows
@@jasonbernhardt1613 do you have a UA-cam channel? I run in the open mod derbies here in Northern Ontario and love watching the boys and girls down south.
@@michaelsmutnick lol. That would be great. But I’m horrible at videos and cameras and that type of stuff.
Some people enjoy Ballet, I just enjoy these types of videos. I myself am a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. So watching you guys do stuff always makes me wish I had just stuck with one thing...I can definitely see where this is actually very easy to do. It's just transmissions, a few pieces, but the devil is in the detail and creatures like you don't come around often. God bless!
Dad seemed like he was under some pressure from the customer.... Not cool. Love y'all.
Never pressured the guy at all! Why in the world would I pressure a guy that I drove 450 miles to have help me?? I was honored that he was willing and able to help me! Richard, Trent and Theresa are first class people! They are super kind and treated me like I have known them my entire life! It was a pleasure getting to talk to them not only about transmissions. But just life in general!!! The guys are just super busy and have more work going on there than you can imagine!!!
Sir. I never intended to seem that way. They're awesome! My apologies to you sir....I love the content and I learn alot about my trans as well. God bless you all!

@@jasonbernhardt1613 do u have a FB or utube so we can keep up with you we derby in Indiana and Ohio good luck to ya we know u have a strong trans
Richard and his crew are the best. The amount of knowledge this guy has is priceless! Like his dog Annie too😎👍🏻
Man the way he throws parts around I'm jealous he can put them all back together without a issue😡😡. I would've been FUCKED😭😭😭😢😢😢. Asking if anyone can help me make sure everything is in the right place when time to put back together. We all have our skills set. But I can't do what he does and still place together perfectly. Good work man. You are going to have me come way from Florida. Just to watch you work. This is amazing! I'm such a hater right now. You should become a teacher once you retire. Teach the new kids how to do this.
Yeah I'd need a sharpie and a box of freezer bags to keep everything labeled and separated, and I'd still have a snap ring left over after putting it back together.
@@MOE-db8oc 😳! I couldn't have said it any better. Your comment is better then mine lol. Perfect analogy 🤝🏿.
I never get tired of these tear down videos.
Can you even say “Tranny” anymore? /s
Call it a Bruce....
Gotta pull my Bruce, do a few Bruce modifications, then slap the Bruce back together and reinstall the Bruce into the ride. I prefer the T400 Bruce.
Been here since ford FR100 bout a year ago when I built mine with my little brother now I’m watching him and his high school buddies watching your videos on th400 rebuilds 👍🏼
i wish i was closer,a genuine doctor of transmissions right here.it would be great to just watch and learn ,so many years of knowledge
I used to watch your videos every day. I apologize that I’ve missed several. Always good stuff & I do appreciate your efforts to educate me.
Thank you Sir
I've watched so many of your videos and I'm just so amazed at how much knowledge and know how you have when it comes to such a complicated piece of machinery. And it's not as if this is a "one size fits all" piece of equipment either. You seem to know all the ins and outs of any transmission that rolls into your shop. It's so impressive. And not only do you fix them, you improve on the manufacturers faults. Thank you for sharing what you do with the world!
I've been to the mountain top. Heared the voice of the wind and the Trees, and i say this is a master and you can take that to the bank!
Between Richard and Warren( western truck and tractor repair); both know their stuff..Amazed at them both for their knowledge and repair skills..
I can't help but watch these transmission tear down videos of yours. It's an art. Great videos.
always a pleasure watching you work. Especially enjoy the descriptions of what you are doing and what you find wrong.
Great video Mr.Richard. Always a pleasure to watch your skills.
Such nice people. And, hard-working and willing to take the time to teach others.
You could literally take an entire transmission, in pieces. Throw it into a bag, shake and throw the whole thing over your shoulder and still rebuild from scratch. Nice 👍 love watching a proper professional work. Ty.
You sir, are a true artist. Teaching your son this trade and seeing him become proficient is something that I'm sure you're very proud of. There were times in my life that I would have paid good money to just to have someone like you, and your shop, work on my transmission. Unfortunately, I too was loaded in the boat with scam transmission repairs. Thanks for the education...
So interesting to hear a true expert discuss others' work.
