Hi, love the video. I'm currently rebuilding my r154. In the rebuild kit there are two synchros with different ramp angles. All the synchros in my box atm have the same ramp angles. I'm told they are a new design synchro and will replace to of the old ones. My problem is I don't know what gears they go on. They look like they must be directional by having a longer ramp angle on one side.
They are indeed a new design synchro and will replace to of the old ones. The gear cones are only a certain size so see what gears they fit. Just ball park memory, they should be for 2nd and 3rd
Thank you again for the opportunity. Always a privileged to do a full build. At least 2 customers were starstruck by the trans like "DAMN! Thats a baller ass transmission!"
So i finally installed my r154 transmission that i rebuilt. All gears work fine except 2nd gear, it goes in but I dont feel the engagement nor does it actually engage to where the car moves. Any ideas to where i potentially messed up at? 🤣
Hey anothet question, im having trouble installing the 5th gear/reverse gear clutch hub gear locks and springs. I know one goes facing towards the synchro but where does the 2nd spring go? Right behind the clutch hub? Honestly confused, anyway i can send you pictures for you to see what im talking about?
Hey we would love to help, but we need to prioritize paying customer work first. You can support us via patreon or merch sales in exchange and we would love to be of service.
hey man i just picked up an r154 and therea about a 12th of an inch of play maybe a lil more maybe a lil less its around there and i wanna replace the input shaft bearing i dont have the cash for tools to do a ehole rebuild what would go into doing just the input shaft can i do it with just splitting the first case thanks man!
I just finished an r154 swap and now it’s rattling pretty loud when in neutral without the clutch depressed. Is that generally an input shaft bearing issue?
@@cameronthebobameron1930 Rattle at idle with clutch out sounds like something is wrong inside the transmission. Bad input bearing would be a "whirring" noise with clutch out. Bad input shaft would be a whine in every gear except 4th
hey you should release the full version instead of fast forwarding and cutting part of the vid. nice job by the way

Super satisfying to watch this.
good job
Nice. Great job
Thank you! Cheers!
Great breakdown.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Bro my instructor had the same idea today when bringing in my r154 because of that 2nd gear removing issue.
Smart man. Nothing replaces experience, wisdom, and the school of hard knocks.
@@CMAutohaus update: not sure what i did wrong but I ended up damaging that gear lmao. Luckily toyota still sell replacements tho.

U da man!
Much appreciated!
How much for you do my R154 Japanese spec? And where is your shop located?

Great video! What does that aftermarket bearing retainer prevent?
The oem bearing retainer and thrust washer are both known weak points that can shatter. I recommend the entire billet upgrade for any R154 rebuild
@@CMAutohaus 👍👍 definitely going to be ordering everything for my AR5 trans. They have a 3rd gear failure issue with big power I'm trying to prevent
@@Matp345 If budget allows, I also recommend Cyro and WPC treatment.

is there a way to make this work on a 2014 vw golf so the golf would be manual and rwd?
Im sure there is. But the guy to ask is someone far smarter than we are.

What clutch/flywheel do you have?
