Hi - I am from Essex in England and came across your channel after learning about the history of Appalachia from another UA-cam video. I am a young 54 and currently battling spinal cancer so I spend a lot of time on UA-cam, I love history particularly social history and think your channel is simply marvellous - your efforts to preserve and record the Appalachian way of life should be commended and recognised !.
I know many people who settled in the Appalachian area were from England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales and were tough, hardy people who worked hard to provide for their families and be as self sustaining as possible. A lot of the recipes & foods you cook while different at times to British & Irish cuisine remind me of the honest to goodness dishes & recipes of my own grandmother, who was born in the 1920s when Britain was still quite agriculturally focused and before all the processed foods and corporations became prevalent as they are today. Things were simpler and her whole family worked on farms and grew their own produce which sadly few people do these days. Give me one of your 14 day pickles over a mass producedjar bought from a shop 100 times out of 100.

I have family who moved to the US in the 1910s & 20s on the Irish side of my family, they went to the attractions of California to settle but I wonder how things may have been different in our family had they settled in North Carolina or the South.
Thank you so much for continuing to share your films about Appalachian life and food, I absolutely love your channel. We may be a few thousand miles away in the UK but our cultures have more in common than we don’t and it is lovely to see someone so proud of their heritage. In a world of global corporations and mass production it’s crucially important that culture & heritage like yours is preserved and recorded so future generations can carry it on. We may not eat some of the foods and dishes that you eat in the US (and vice versa) but I’m now eager to try some dishes you have made. I think I will have to get my wife interested in your channel !

And that’s a legacy you’ve imparted. It does extend to other people. And the world certainly needs this. We are all missionaries. We only have to start at our own screen door. Been praying for you. Yes, I love hearing Granny & Paul sing about the Lord, and U can tell they know what & who they are singing about. It A heart felt blessing, Expeseacially when we know ourselves what the true love of God is in our hearts. It's for all that want it.
All use people need to know the Lord as Saviour, personally, by faith in His sacrificed love to the whole world,(John 3:16) by giving His life to die in our place on the cross & rising from the grave on that 1st Easter Sunday morning, ascending to heaven, as our mediator& high priest taking our prayers to Jehovah God.

I hope Granny has good test results. I am glad she is doing so many activities. My Mama lived till 96. I have the last two things that my Mama crocheted. The crocheted bed spread is on my bed. The last picture that was made of my Mama, she is crocheting. Happy birthday, Tipper.
Good Morning Tipper, thank you for all these wonderful wisdom videos, I live in Florida and as everyone around me were voicing their worst fears getting ready for the hurricane. I remembered something my Great Grandmother said when some of us kids were worried about something, she would say "don't go callin up the devil, you know he'll always answer the phone" LOL and Also she would say someone was as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rockers.. Both came to mind yesterday. Just thought I'd share

Ugh!! 😢
I know no one wants to talk about or think about The Great Depression, but we all need to know about it & think about how things could be &be thankful to GOD for all of our blessings. I would ask Granny about food rations & shortages. Unless, it’s too painful to go back to those memories.🙏🏼

Hi Tipper, when my dad couldn’t sleep at night he would get up and go sit in his favorite chair. When my mom asked why he was up he would say “ can’t sleep, I’m too busy worrying about all my money!”
We lived quite meagrely so that would get a chuckle! It’s not so much wisdom but just a funny saying!

Happy Belated Birthday Tipper. I’m seeing this in the middle of night, so it’s actually Ms. Cindy’s birthday. Happy Heavenly Birthday Ms. Cindy. Regarding the words of wisdom about things at least being clean. My Grandma used to say “ We may be poor, but we don’t have to be dirty.” Our clothes weren’t the best, but we always made sure they were clean and we were clean. We lived in some run down little places when my mom was on her own with all of us kids after the divorce, and she’d always say “ At least it’s clean.” That meant a lot to her, and I figure she must have learned that from my Grandma. She actually did use Ford blue car paint to paint the walls in our house and all of her little decoration type things out in the yard. We had Ford blue milks cans and lawn chairs, and she even painted the tire on our tire swing Ford blue. Lol. It was like that for years .I hope you had a nice birthday Tipper. Stay cool. Happy Birthday Tipper!! Question for Granny: As a child "even a teenager" I loved listening to Pap and Mamaw tell stories of family "back home, European, Scottish with a wee bit of Irish decent." What are some of your favorite stories of your family line? My great grandpa would run logs up & down the river from between Hartford & Livermore, Ky. where they had two mills both owned by different companies, one being larger. One of them made chairs with cane seats and delivered them to women who stayed at home. My great grandma would cane those seats as did others in the family. .10 cents a chair was what they made. Some kids were home schooled and also caned them to help. When Granny passed the company sent her a beautiful bouquet of flowers and card thanking her for all her hard work. I have the funeral book recording all that happened that day and everything that sent. I love how people loved on each other then. Brings tears to my eyes as I type it. Ok I'm done rambling. Stay In His Word .......

"Most times" when trouble comes my way (I'm trying to make it my first response) I put it in my hands and give it to GOD. I try to mentally see myself handing it to HIM. I may not get it right all the time, but I sure try and am doing better. Pray until I have PEACE. If it starts to aggravate me, I go tell HIM, again.

I dont have many questions for granny as much as I would just like to hear her talk--talk about growing up, about what as a child she did for fun, about some of her favorite memories, about what she most wants her kids grandkids and great grandkids to know and to remember -- the things important to granny that above all else she wants handed down and impressed upon every generation of her family....I told her via the last singing post that I miss my grandma so much still after all these years that I have adopted granny as my living grandma (though since I will be 69 in a couple of weeks I guess she would be closer in age to be my mother rather than grandmother) oh how she is loved and admired (as are you Tipper and all of your family)

I was and still am "backward" or quiet. My husband is not and many people ask him if I am allowed to talk. Lol. Sometimes I feel like some people talk too much in order to hear themselves and don't really have anything meaningful to say. Even myself when I am complaining or not being considerate.

So Blessed to have Granny in your life. I didn’t have Grandparents past 6 years old. Granny, you don’t look a day over 70, such beautiful skin. It’s all that good eating and mountain air! I was wondering what are her favorite things to eat. Happy Birrhday!!!🎂🎂. Nothing better than getting out peaches from the freezer and making a pie on a cold winter day. You brought up a memory when you mentioned hoop snakes I grew up in the mountains and when I was little I remember hearing one coming through the leaves it was headed straight for me I froze and it went past me within a few inches. I ran for home as fast as my little legs would carry me. I am listening to your comments section and mine is "don't puff up because you won't fit in your britches." this means if you get to thinking you are more than what you are. Or don't get above your raising.

How about the timber rattlers? Black snakes that lived in our barns and around cattle were so prevalent in Va. They even got into our houses. In fact they loved breeding and living under our old farm houses. 🎉
