I often notice how much he loves her. It’s so obvious. So nice to see.
I had a wonderful husband like that and he’s been gone 10 years now. I was 45 at the time. I tell ya, you sure do notice little things. I often sit and eat the salad bar at the grocery store here and you can sit and look out the window and enjoy your lunch. I often notice older folks still holding hands, as they walk in… it’s nice to see.

I love all your vlogs, but I especially loved this one. It was really fun to learn more about the family. Heck, I feel like part of your family anyway. I think we kin from back in time anyhow. I think you and Matt are so cute and sweet together. I’ll take more of these vlogs any day, and I hope you write a book. I’ll grab it as soon as it’s published. ❤

I turned 70 this year and guess what? I feel 40 or so....I enjoy life, laugh daily, love the Lord and truly look forward to each day. Age isn't the issue. Loving the Lord and enjoying each day keeps a heart and mind young. Look forward to aging...it's a blessing many don't get to enjoy:)

Amen ma’am I’m 60 years old this month and my parents died in their mid and late 60’s and I think they were young and had a lot more life to live until they got sick but I thank the Lord for allowing me to have them as long as I did . And every year that I get older I thank God for every single day of my life no matter how many years, months or days that he gives me . I hear some people complain about the gray in their hair but I always tell them that I thank God for every one of mine .

Gratitude can be a core strength for all of us. We are all so blessed - to have a roof over our heads, a bed, electricity and food. God has blessed us so much. My pastor says gratitude is a decision. Thank you for reminding all of us of this basic truth! God bless you & Matt and all the family.

Except get in small creek until law runs them off everywhere they go.Go without food a couple days at a time. No shelter home for them In a small town. 🙏

What is wrong with eating cucumber sandwiches? They are delicious as are tomato sandwiches. Like Tipper, I, too, am mostly Scottish. Also Irish and English. Eating cucumber sandwiches is not a class thing, but a cultural thing. My family also always stuffed a chicken or turkey with Scottish dressing made with kidney suet, oats and onions.

I love living in the mountains of North Carolina and can't imagine living anywhere else. But I too, love going the ocean. It is amazing how calming (and healing) the crashing of the waves can be. I always think of the verse Isaiah 40:12 “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?"

You both should try southern cucumber sandwiches. Recipe: Slice a ripe but young cucumber, and slice some onion. Place both in a mason jar with salt and pepper to taste. Cover with white, distilled vinegar. Leave overnight in refrigerator. When you’re ready for a sandwich, butter two slices of your favorite whole grain bread. Line with sliced cucumbers and onions from the mason jar. Eat as is or top with any other fresh garden veggie (aka tomatoes, Matt). Every time I eat sliced cucumbers, I think of my mother and her southern cucumber sandwiches. (And we’re all the same “level”) Thank you both for the glimpses of beautiful Appalachia.
    Blessings.

2 things - Ingles is in Tennessee as well, and my daughter worked there part time during high school and college. Also , I love your advice on gratitude. The neighborhood where my dad’s side of the family lived was mostly filled with relatives. It was a wonderful way to grow up. Most of relatives are gone now, but the streets are still named after them. There was always something going on. Aunt Mildred let us make homemade pie crust and play dough. Uncle Oscar taught me all the names of the trees, flowers and birds. Aunt Lila made cookies and told stories. Uncle Jerry fixed clocks and Uncle Britt played us music. Grandma babysat us and taught me to sew and do embroidery. There was usually someone to amuse you or cousins to play games with you. Thank you sharing your lives with us. You feel like neighbors just next door.🤣. I wish the world could just slow down and talk like this together. Maybe we would understand each other better and love each other more. God bless.❤️

As a tree worker on break one day, I helped an 86-year-old lady with a scooter and an ankle brace take brown bags of lawn clutter to the curb. Long story short, she said she was doing the work that we were doing that day. She explained to me two weeks previous, that she got on a step ladder and cut her neighbors low hanging branch off for her with a f%£#¥£g chainsaw. 86 years old. Never use a chainsaw to cut the low hanging limbs, as a former tree worker, (never got qualified to be an arborist) that is a super dangerous!!!!!

They didn’t know we were twins bc we were on top of each other and the doc only heard one heartbeat, and didn’t listen to my mom saying something wasn’t right (her 5th pregnancy). A friend of mine has twins, a boy and a girl. Only mom and dad know who was born first. They have no plans of ever telling them. The twins are 11 now. It is interesting how people always ask who was born first. The twins promptly answer they don’t know. Their mom and dad decided not to tell them so that neither one holds it over the other and they also hoped it wouldn’t effect any birth order stereotypes. I had never met anyone who took this approach.

Really enjoyed this Q & A, Tipper. Matt's such a mess, and I love that he's gotten more and more comfortable with the camera, because he's got a lot to contribute. I was impressed once again with the good-humored give-and-take of your relationship. It's obvious you love and respect one another. I hope younger folks watch your chats and take heed. BTW, I'm going to blame it on Matt that when I went to the store recently determined not to get any junk food, out of habit I looked at the Little Debbie's display. There were those peanut butter cookies he raved about awhile back. I just had to try them, and although good with a glass of milk, they were extremely sweet. Learned later that one cookie was supposed to be three servings, lol! God bless you both for the positive, common sense values you express on your channel. You're such a joy to spend time with.

Speaking of Matt's finger... we have a trait on my mom's side of the family that the pinky finger is much shorter and tapered on the end of it than the other hand. Usually the left pinky finger. We call it the "Curnew" finger because the first known relative that had it was a "Curnew".
Thank you for answering everyone's questions! You all are wonderful. You feel like family to me. 💜

About the finger. Good chance it's Dupuytren's contracture, a condition in which one or more fingers become permanently bent in a flexed position. The cause is unknown but is believed to be genetic to some extent. To learn more, just search Dupuytren's contracture.

I had asked about his finger and told you that both my grandpa's pinky fingers were bent down and I have some cousins with it. It's called Dupuytren Contracture. It is believed that the condition originated with the Vikings and then spread across Northern Europe, which is how it got its unique nickname. With Dupuytren's contracture, the tissue in your hand thickens. This forms into a cord that pulls your pinky, middle, or ring finger down toward your palm. Matt was hesitant about answering these questions . He's a smart man Tipper, just be careful. There are a lot of people out there that are let me just say "different". I would be real careful about ever doing the meet and greets at your house. If you want to do them maybe somewhere else. Sorry if I'm over stepping, but this world is worrisome to me. Just food for thought.

The hand condition may be Dupuytren's contracture. I have that condition on both hands. It is said that it is passed down from the Vikings. I’ve had the surgery and it didn’t last. I grew up in Mo. but vocabulary is almost the same as I remember as a kid.

Fun video! You two are a hoot.❤
Please dont can your potatoes dry. The water is what makes sure that the middle of the jar gets to the right temperature to be safe. And if you leave the peels on, please be sure to scrub the daylights out of them & rinse like crazy. Dirt left on peels can be a contributor to unsafe food. I peel mine, cut them the size I want, rinse the daylights out of them & let them soak for an hour or so, drain, rinse & soak again. Do it least twice to get rid of the excess starch. Jar them up & always pressure can them. Good luck with that whole project & have fun doing it together!
I'm with Matt on the timato sandwiches! Yummm!! I need squishy white bread, mayo, salt, pepper & a nice, firm, thick slice or two of tomato & then Katie bar the door!! The cucumber sandwich is my other favorite- sanw combination as for tomato sandwiches, just cucumber instead. And my favorite is the pickler cukes. I'm not a big fan of salad cucumbers - the skin is too thick for me so I'd have to peel it. Too much time in that when a craving hits!!😂
I'm looking forward to the "part two" video.
Stay well... God bless you & yours 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

For 53 you look amazin'. I was assuming closer to 46/47.
We grew up a tight-knit family. 3 aunts lived just 1 street over, and my other grandma 1 door down. Unfortunately, after my closest grandma died everyone just started doing their own thing. That, and the area went from a quiet country area to a crime area and everyone took off. It's heartbreakin. And ya'll definitely are not boring. We are a military family so we have to move a lot always doing something new and we've seen a few states and overseas and I'll be the one to tell you, the nicest place to be is in your front yard with a tea and enjoying the birds and the wind. Nothing better and it ain't as costly. 😂
