- Into the Spider-Verse very quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time when it released in 2018. Despite this, I was very cautious going into the sequel believing that they couldn't rekindle the magic of the first film. However, Across the Spider-Verse puts all of my fears to rest while delivering one of the most exciting cinematic experiences I've had in years. Here's why I think it's a perfect sequel.

I love that the "love triangle" with Hobie turned way more into "Big brother we both admire and wanna be because he's so cool" vibes once Miles actually got to MEET him instead of just being jealous of a mystery guy in her life.
I'm glad they went that angle. It's just healthier and the whole love triangle teen angst thing is so played out. Even if Gwen and Hobie had a thing, I still see the three of them understanding each other mutually because they can actually communicate and empathize with each other.

Dude the second Hobie walked onscreen and accepted Miles immediately I was like This is the bromance I signed up for, him Pavitr and Miles are such a chaos trio and I love it
I kinda took the whole "cannon" event was a metaphor for the fans . Being overly protective of what spiderman is supposed to be

I feel that way too in a way. Once again, this story, and particularly this film is circumventing many expectations, as well as solidifying the fact that basically all Spider-Man stories can be Canon (which wasn’t a widely accepted popular opinion over a decade ago, especially outside of comic book, fandom) as they all exist within their own universities, even if this wasn’t specifically stated within their own comics or animations/live actions before. The one to truly start this that has been widely accepted, apart from previous Marvel movies that showed the existence of the Multiverse, was 100% No Way Home.
That film is still for me, my all-time favourite live-action Spider-Man film now, and truly solidifies all of the Spider-Man stories are canon within their own universities, not just one of attempts, and the Miles Morales/Spider-Verse movies take this to the pinnacle of perfection.
What I love is it still is in line with what we have been learning in the MCU. Canon events are basically nexus events that can’t be changed.
i like it because instead of ridiculizing people who are infact overly protective about it they made the fucking Sickest character in the movie represent them
the way spiderman 2099 said “we are the good guys” was so menacing and frightening

@ascended313 We only know of one instance and that's Miguel's. At the end of ITSV, the AI tells Miguel "Well, the universe -DIDN'T- collapse." Meaning that canon events aren't guaranteed to cause collapse.
spider-punk is so amazingly written. mixing the 1970s british punk rock culture with his amazing style of animation is so beautiful to watch. it shows that the animators not only care about the characters, but the cultures and communities they arise from. 11/10 movie
Honestly I was kinds skeptical of him but he turned into one of my favorites!

From how jealous he seemed of Hobie I thought they would end up being rivals and would hate each other but when Hobie showed up he was immediately cool with Miles especially when he saw how helpful he was. I can't wait to see the banter between them in Beyond the Spider-Verse
idk if they did this or if it was just my eyes playing tricks but I felt like Hobie was on a lower frame rate sort of like how Miles was at the start of Into the Spider-Verse to show how he was untrained, of course in this case it would be to make Hobie's movements seem more noticeable and powerful but that might have just been the newspaper style that made it seem that way
I really liked Hobie, my only problem is that Pavitr acted like him and Gwen were in some sort of relationship, and Gwen even wore his shoes. Feels like there was stuff cut out about Hobie and Gwen that wouldve definitely added more to Hobie's character given how chill he was towards Miles.
When Spot becomes his ultimate form it was legitimately unsettling and intimidating. Bro wasn’t kidding, he ain’t a joke no more. Part 2 gonna be insane.

Just the way the color tones were constantly changing as emotions were developing to suit the scenes between Gwen and Gwen's father was fucking beautiful.
I found it distracting but I knew exactly what they were going for
Those scenes really made me wish I had a recording or way to access them so I could rewatch those talks and study every frame for subtext.

When you could see the colors of the background dripping off the walls to fit the emotion I was like... damn now this shit is fucking crazy
I love the foreshadowing and references they made to the previous movie. They turned the "guy that gets hit by the bagel with fitting onomatopoeia" gag into a main antagonist, and the fact that Comic-con doesn't exist in Miles' universe, a throwaway joke made by Peter B. in the first movie, is actually a hint that he's in another universe, dude this is genius writing. This became one of my favorite movies by the halfway mark but the introduction of my boy Peter Parkedcar made this an 11/10.

the fact that miles wouldve become prowler is also foreshadowed by his spidey-sense color scheme, which swaps to the spiderman one when he meets peter, showing how his path changed. they thought of everything!!!

Hobie, no joke, was the funniest character in this entire movie. How he just stayed for the drama then upped and left when stuff hits the fan is amazing. He liked Miles and hated following orders, so when he was ordered to attack Miles, bro just. quit. gone. dipped. never seen for the rest of them film (-the watch he left gwen but even then, he wasn't present)
Sad that he left but cannot think of a better nor funnier way for him to leave.
He's with Gwen at the last scene so we'll likely get more of him next year

I love how he turned British for the movie, because in the comics he is American and for some reason the British accent just makes him funnier

i also like how we see him taking a bunch of stuff as they walk thru hq w/ miles pointing out the hypocrisy of him being a member. hobi asks miles why he doesn't just build his own "watch", meaning he had been plotting on making his own watch for a while but got away w/ stealing materials bc he's able to just say "it's punk dude" he's been rebelling for a while, miles was just the moment he could go all the way
I absolutely love how they managed to turn one of the lesser known Spiderman villains be the main multiversal antagonist (that starts out as a joke that later evolves into formidable and intimidating bad guy)
plus the audience is lead to agree with miles at the start of the film : Spot is just a standard "villain-of-the-week" character, and nothing more. they didnt even feature The Spot in a lot of the trailers, so when he first shows on screen, you're like "oh, this is just the average robbery. he's not a big deal." it works SO well.

They should do that with every villain. Make them look very ridiculous in the first part, then make them insanely scary as the film progresses

If Sony messes up the third I'm gonna cry. Since this movie hooks so heavily on having a good conclusion in the third movie if the third movie sucks then it will somewhat detract from the over-all quality of the second, which I dearly love

I don't think it will! They were made at the same time and were supposed to be one movie, but it was too long so they split it into two. Hopefully, the extra time will result in Beyond the Spiderverse being more polished.
As of Spider Punk, I think the man's an actual giga chad. Didn't bothered chasing Miles, gave Gwen a watch to cause chaos as possible because that's what he is, and he didn't even cared about the anomaly either, he just went in there and pulled alongside Pvtir..
And as of Pvtir being all happy and sunshine... wait for the sequel boi.

I don't think he's just trying to create chaos. Hobie isn't dumb, he's just kinda silly. I don't think he helped Gwen and miles just to see what would happen. Miles convinced him ideologically to stand up for what he believed in. Hence him saying he quits as he leaves 2099. He seems to be fully on board with helping miles.

@@chibiraptor I dont think that Miles convinced Hobie to stand up for what he believed in. I think Hobie always has that mindset. He believes in anarchy and not trusting the establishment. He was trying to stop Miles from joining Spider Society because he knew whats gonna happen. He stole a lot of tech from Miguel to make his own watch. He even tells Miles to make his own watch, saying that Miles doesnt need yo join a bigger team. Miles should just do his own thing. As soon as Hobie got the tech he needed, he left.
Pavitr** or Pavitra, if you will. That's how we write it anyway. Stop butchering non-Anglo names. Especially ones that directly emerge from languages that are multiple thousands of years old, and yet are still in use. Pavitra is Hindi/Sanskrit (both actively spoken, learnt and taught) for "purity".
I’m still dumbfounded on how they made the first movie look like a regular movie in comparison, and for some reason the most I wanted to see for the second part is more of Penny cause it seems she got a sort of redesign. I’m so excited for everything for it to bring

Spot might be the villain of the movie, but hes not the only antagonist and Miguel fills that role very well throughout that second half of the film. They did an amazing job building him up and making him seem like such a huge threat to miles. And it felt so interesting to dive into that classic spiderman dillema of saving many versus saving the few, where spiderman will have to choose between one or the other, and Mile's answer to that is that he want's to do it all - Have his cake, and eat it too. Or two cakes for that matter.
I think it's pretty obvious that all he has to do is reveal to his dad that he's Spiderman, have him quit from the force and then either defeat spot or defeat miguel.

I think we can all agree that spider-verse 1 and 2 are both peak cinema and I genuinely loved seeing miles evolve as a character along with the newcomers such as Hobbie and pavitr

The most chilling part was when Gwen’s dad was confronting Gwen… It mirrored real life police “deescalation tactics” so well it made me incredibly scared
Probably my favorite part of Spider-Verse has to be how fucking beautifully they blend different animation styles. When I saw live action Aaron Davis and Mrs. Chen interacting with the 2D characters i was fucking screaming. Pulling my hair out in pure excitement.
Also Miguel is a baddie.
It felt like a SpongeBob SquarePants episode in how they would do that. It was like the time where two live-action guys dressed in a gorilla suit and a horse suit were talking to the characters when Spongebob was traumatized after a near-death incident.

I really really loved how the environment kept changing when gwen and her dad were talking, it felt like it captured the feelings that you feel while, let's say, having an argument with a loved one.
many people seemed to be mixed on that scene, on one hand, many loved it, like me, but on the other hand it was kinda disliked

At the end of the movie the room erupted in sighs, I have to admit I said "seriously" as well since I waited 5 years for this movie to be a cliff hanger. But I can't be mad either since this was an amazing movie worthy of an Oscar.

Yeah everybody in my theater flipped out and booed because it ended on a cliff hanger. But…do you know how many famous movies have done that? Empire Strikes Back literally ends on a Cliffhanger. Lord of The Rings (The first 2 are basically cliffhanger endings because there’s no real ending of the conflict. At least not the overall conflict. It’s the same thing as Infinity War, etc. This movie left me with like a feeling of adrenaline like I’ve never felt from a movie before.

I have mixed feelings about Spot disappearing for the second half. On one hand, it sucks how we couldn't see him developed more. On the other, I really do think that every single second of building and explaining the spiderverse in the second half was important and that Spot being there might have forced some stuff to feel unnatural or rushed. But yeah, again, wished we saw more of him. He was so goofy yet intimidating. I'm almost 100% positive he'll be a lot more present in Beyond The Spiderverse, though

I think the reason why he disappeared is that he already has all the power he needs, he doesn't aim to take down the whole Spider-Society, just Miles.

@@Vespyr_ exactly. I’m 6 but most of my best friends are 5’6” which is closer to global average. Glad to see the height represented in one of the best incarnations of the character
it wasn't rushed nor was it incomplete. It told the story start to finish of Gwen. She didn't have a band at the start, so she made her own at the end, at the same time leaving a MASSIVE cliff hanger for miles
I absolutely love this film. There’re are parts that genuinely left me speechless, like when the Spot transformed himself in that wonderfully terrifying black version of himself. Absolutely stunning animation
And it made him look much more scarier with the animation being super glitchy, it made it look like an analog horror video

I was afraid going into this movie too, but the minute I saw the absolute oil-painting, semi-impressionist, punk-rock aesthetic of Gwen’s universe, I knew I was in for a treat.
I feel like the spot disappearing in the 2nd half was a better decision then throwing him in because I feel like his inclusion with what was happening in the 2nd half would feel unnecessary and out of place
villain of the week always has to be present, main villains are felt in the background, spot really became a big bad
Across The Spider-Verse is really a perfect sequel, it expands the universes in a new and compelling way, continues the story and leaves an impact on the franchise
i really love how much the mvoie relies on showing rather than telling, a lot of major choices are made because characters think about them and consider them all without saying anythign out loud and its so refreshing to see

The movie doesn't treat its audience like they're idiots. It's not afraid to hang on a silent note. It isn't constantly trying to pepper you with exposition, it takes you along for the ride every step of the way.
Kinda like Hobbie stealing parts for the watch and then slightly hinting at building one when talking to Miles. That blew me away

Among the many, many things I loved about this amazing film, two of their multiversal rules really stood out to me and sorta fixed/built upon other Marvel media (SPOILER ALERT)...
1. It connects with what the MCU did in "What If...?" episode 4 (the Doctor Strange one), where it's established that some points in every timeline are fixed, and that rewriting them would lead to a universal collapse.
2. This movie inadvertently answered our question of why Wanda couldn't just find variants of her kids that were orphaned in Multiverse of Madness. Miguel tried exactly that, and look what happened to him...
My only issue is that we can’t assume it’s entirely consistent with the MCU, seeing as people in other universes aren’t slowly breaking down like in Spider-Verse.
My only guess is that it doesn’t happen in the localized MCU multiverse, or maybe it isn’t doesn’t effect universes in live-action due to some in-universe reality difference or something.
@@SandwitchZebraOne of the main theories on reddit was that using the collider to teleport to other dimensions caused breaking down/glitching while dr. strange's magic in the mcu worked differently and didn't cause breaking down or glitching.
Basically there would be two ways to leave your dimension, by either using one of those machines or magic. Spiderverse only uses the first one, which is why the rules aren't exactly the same.

You're actually wrong on the first point. Gwen's scene with her father shows that no point in time is actually fixed and events can be changes if you know ahead of time, with no collapse occurring at all. I think what causes a collapse is an anomaly from outside the universe coming in.
But change the worlds timeliness is generally fine
Kinda off topic but during the scene where miles gets chased by Miguel, lord and miller crammed in as many jokes as possible meaning they still have that charm old clone high did but for some reason it’s not present in the new clone high
It was probably because they were so busy trying to perfect the spiderman movies (and they delivered) that they probably didn't have much time to think or work with the new reboot. I had a feeling that they wanted to do so much more with the clone high reboot, but looking at their record, they were super busy with the movies.

Hobie is my guy, true bri'ish representation. Whole movie was great, I really hope when the second part comes out they screen the movie in double features so you can watch part 1 and 2 right after the other. The spot's animation truly went even further beyond, plus ultra. It was boutta make me act up

the reason that they didn't use The Spot as mush as you wanted is because Beyond The Spider- Verse is when he is the MAIN villain. Across The Spider-Verse the set-up for him
The animation in ATSV is incredible. It's amazing how the animators managed to one-up themselves without being bloated or overstuffed. Specifically with the spot when he becomes fully powered. That was beyond mind-blowing and nightmarishly terrifying. And I have to agree that it's great that Spider-Gwen got more development(Love her world BTW). I will say I liked the first film more. ATSV is good don't get me wrong but there are parts of the film that feel a bit incomplete. I'm excited yet concerned for beyond the Spider-verse. I honestly hope it lives to the hype and Lord and Miller deliver.
As someone who is currently learning the craft of animation at university, I genuinely cried at that opening Gwen scene just on its breathtaking animation

The way you described the first movie's impact on the animation industry at 9:55 is honestly such a perfect summation of both Spider-Man's message of "Anyone can wear the mask" and even Miles' whole "I'mma do my own thing" in this film that it hurts. GOD I love these two films
I wish they used the different spidermen more not just for a chase scene and spot they were used and then kinda dropped but the next movie will definitely be great to see them use what they've revealed and flesh it out

Dude you are asking for way too much in the story they want to tell. They did use different spider people. Like Hobie. The movie is already pretty long. Plus it's a part one movie there is going to be more.

@@gektoast4968 yup, the reason alot of people now look at diversity with annoyance is because of hack writers slapping it on a shoddy product, advertising it and saying that people who point out the product is shoddy hates (insert marginalized group here). Having Diversity isn’t a bad thing but using it as a shield and a magnet is a deplorable thing. (This is the reason why I avoid anything Disney now.)
Yeah, calling it now- this is my favorite movie of 2023. I saw it yesterday and the movie was straight heat. I was a little disappointed it was a two parter, but that's a lot better than rushing a happy ending.
That they didn't tell this before hand is a bit worrying. Make me think we didn't get the full product like we were promised

@@Johnnyupside I mean, the simplest explanation I can think of is that less people might watch if they knew ahead of time that it's a two-parter, since they'll just wait until the next part comes out to see it, and that could result in less profit.
I'm not really upset they decided to make it a two-parter though. The movie had a LOT going on towards the end, and during my watch I was genuinely concerned with how they were going to wrap all this up in 15-20 minutes. It's highly likely the production team thought the same thing and it may have been changed to a two-part film midway through production
Agreed, it's mine (hands down) too. The dialogue felt real, it's an amazing critique on the present Spider-Man comics, and I loved how Miles and Gwen finished major parts of their arcs (Miles learning to reveal that he's Spider-Man and Gwen finally finding people that accept her for who she is).

This is legit THE best film I've seen, like where do I start? The animation was fucking beautiful and so expressive, the fact there were so many different Spider-People and they were animated so differently, yet they managed to work well together, the different shots, fights and MAN the plot was deep, everything just goes hand in hand, it's fucking beautiful. I don't know how they topped Into The Spider-Verse, but they fucking did and holy shit, it was amazing. Loved it, I can't wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse. What a film, imma watch Into The Spider-Verse again, this whole style of animation, whatever it is, is fucking beautiful, was well worth the five year wait.

@@denizardai Literally one of the best films I've ever seen, animated or not, and I've seen a lot. As a second parter, it trumps Empire Strikes Back for cliffhanger endings, on par with Back to the Future 2 tbh. A timeless classic. It's that good.

The fact they pulled in Amazing, Raimi-verse, MCU, and Venom-verses into the mix was incredible.
I watched it and GOD it was peak. Guardians of the Galaxy and Across the Spiderverse are by far the best movies that I’ve seen this year. And someone give the Spot some Black Air Forces with the way he went from a joke to HIM.

I already saw this film twice I watched yesterday by myself and I watched again today with my friends and we loved it so much that we're dying to see Beyond the Spider-Verse and the wait is already killing us.
Across the Spider-Verse is now one of my favorite sequels of all time, right next to Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots 2, Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight and The Empire Strikes Back.
I had my doubts if they could surpass what they did in the first movie, and i was blown away. They actually did it. It was one of the coolest experiences i’ve ever watched in a movie theater. I will definitely watch it again.
Across the Spiderverse was the first movie I've seen in a while where I wafched it and in my head I thought "this is amazing, I love this" and somehow surpassed the original movie for me which I already loved. It's just so creative, beautiful, clever and funny while also somehow being thought provoking and emotional and their haven't really seen a lot of recent movies that I can say the same for.
The appreciation I have for Rio and Miles’ dynamic is so great as a latino fan because it genuinely feels so real and the whole spanglish and all just felt so heartwarming and I love them so much
For anyone who doesn’t know, the current release date of the next movie aka Part 2, is March 24th of 2024. So we’re only waiting less than a full year to see the finale of this amazing trilogy. I know the cliffhanger was frustrating. But just imagine how amazing it’ll be watching this and part 2 back to back.

I feel like Spiderverse and Puss in Boots had something in common where there isn’t just one threat that has one purpose. It’s many different groups of people who have different goals but are against each other due to them.
Spot was one if the dopest villians not only because of how he went from goofy to menace. But how he quips just as good as miles and actually wins miles respect because miles didn’t take him seriously. His journey of self improvement to full menace was hauntingly beautiful. He was getting more powerful just learning his abilities and improvement of his fighting before he had his final level up
The visual style of this film was actually jaw dropping, really, my mouth didn't close for the last 20 minutes it's just something you can't take your eyes off of, I didn't think it would be possible to make into the spider verse look simple in comparison but they really just didn't hold back on the animation, idk how I'll adjust to pixar films again they look so basic now lmao.
pixars been stylistically bankrupt a long time now lol, they just got way to comfortable with their "signature" rather than getting creative thinking about what fits the story they wanna tell, even worse cuz everyone copied them im so sick of bloby lazy looking characters

I definitely wasnt disappointed with it the movies a great movie that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time especially with how it ended and the twist of miles ending up in a different dimension where hes the prowler plus with how its going and the fact they're also bringing back the characters from the first one im definitely excited for beyond the spider verse

What I really love about the animation is how they chose to animate Spider-Punk specifically when he didn’t have his mask on he looked like he was ripped straight from a comic book and it gave him a almost loose feeling like he wasn’t really physically there. I also love the scenes in Gwen’s universe especially the one with her and her dad when the animators chose to use different colors instead of dialogue to convey emotion it gave me a similar feeling to Hobie feeling loose yet also feeling real and sentimental.
I walked out of that cinema a changed person. My eyes had just witnessed heaven and my brain had exploded at least 17 times.
Miles said to Gwen that there is always a first time for anything and he is trying to prove it by protecting his father rn. Beautifully written movie.

It’s been exactly two weeks since I saw the film (10th June), and I still remember how much fun it was to watch.
I was impressed by how the story balanced both Gwen and Miles’ stories, as they made Gwen a much more engaging character whilst allowing us to see Miles’ own struggles.
Such a great film, and I can weirdly enough wait for BTSV, because it will obviously take lots of time and effort to make a satisfying conclusion for this story.
I love the whole "goofy nerd becomes multidimensional god" trope. Spot is going to be awesome in Part 2. He's so damn menacing now.
Personally, I think the way they left it is perfect. While I can see where your coming from that it feels bloated with plot points not being resolved, I love that because it’s not like they were forgotten, they are going to be resolved and it makes me think about not just “oh I can’t wait for next year” but also theorize about all the different ways these plot lines could resolve. I haven’t been able to sit still since I’ve seen it because of all the ideas I have

For the ppl complaining that Spot was underutilised, the 1st half of the film built him up from goofy to a true villain so that he would become the backdrop of any conflict in the 2nd half, building up to beyond the spiderverse. It was crucial for 2099 to get the spotlight too in the 2nd half

This movie was so spectacular for me personally that I can't even describe it, there are actually no words for how truly amazing this 1st part is. I am so ready for the second part!!
Loved this film so much. It just screams visual appealing and the action is stellar, seriously the comic style of the animation is just up to 11. Not to mention the great story and characters as well as the genuine heartwarming moments and amazing music. This is literally one of the best Spider-Man films I've seen and one of the best superhero films. Can't wait for Beyond The Spider-Verse!

Spot is actually an amazing villain just because the writers made him an underdog. His parts wouldn't hit as hard if they didn't include the part when Miles was basically trolling him in their first encounter
literally my only complaints abt this movie is the abrupt ending AND the underutilization of the other spiders (aka indian spider man, spider punk, etc) because HELL NAH HOBIE BROWN SLAPS AND PAVITR PRABHAKAR PUNCHES I WANT MORE OF THEM
at the end Hobie and Pavitr along with Margo join the Spider-Gang from the first movie when they set out to find where Miles is so you'll def see more of them in BTSV
I love the different color pallets used for each universe. Especially Gwen’s, Ending and Pavitr’s universe.
The use of specific tones, different lighting and of course the character’s traits fitting with their respective universe.
I also love the fearing aura behind Miguel. It’s the first time I’ve been tensed at the cinema because of how unpredictable Miguel is and his uncontrollable rage.

Although more serious than the original, many of the jokes in this movie were well timed and funny to a wide audience
They didn’t subtract from the story or run time because of their good placement and they gave each character a little more personality

The big question I have going into the next movie is how they’ll deal with the “Canon event” concept and it’s consequences. Maybe Miles is right and there is a way to save his dad without destroying the universe, but that makes the fact that nearly EVERY other Spidey sided with Miguel seem super out of character. On the other hand, if Miguel is right, that kind of goes against the entire theme of the movie.
This is what's really holding me back from 100% liking this film. I also don't really like how Thematically cannon is coded as wrong, because all of us want Miles to save his Dad. Also technically if there was no "canon" to build from them there wouldn't be the variety of the multiverse, so the negative coding doesn't sit well with me. I could understand just Miguel wanting to defend this but every other spiderman doing so in unison, as you said, seemed off. Hopefully they stick the landing.
I guess another thing is if Miguel is wrong then the Spider-Man can go around changing their canon, does anything have stakes or consequences, since we are dealing with multiverses, thus far anyone who messed with it certainly found out the hard way. It makes it feel like miles will have his cake and eat it too if he somehow saves hai dad and stops spot.

basically your only complaints are about the fact that this is part 1. the spot is obviously going to show up a lot more in part 2 and although it may seem like the cliffhanger should have been earlier part 2 will make it make more sense

I think I liked the action and overall flow of the 1st film animation wise. But this one definitely has better art direction and cinematography.

I loved the different artstyles each world had and not just how one was made of lego like gwen's universe had super painterly backgrounds that seemed to change along with the characters' emotions its like the world itself is alive
I adored the focus on Gwen. It was the thing I didn't realise I needed this much but this film is her arc. Delving more into the rough emotions from her backstory and how the resentment against her father tore her between the pro-Canon Spideys and her care for Miles? *Chef's kiss*

every single frame in this movie is so beautiful and visually stunning i could cry. i want a whole mural covered in them, it would he beautiful.
that aside, spot as a villain is probably the perfect nemesis for miles. and the way this guy is animated is genuine immaculate perfection. it is a shame he was tossed aside to focus on the other plot points in the movie, though. i'm infinitely excited to see him in BTSV.

It’s either poorly hidden racism (sometimes just misguided people that don’t want to be racist but their beliefs just are tied to racism) or actual criticism, like overloading your senses and piling so many things on top of you (even tho if they didn’t, the times when characters are stressed af wouldn’t be as impactful) or sometimes moving so fast that it’s hard to keep track
