Shoutout to Hobie the spider-punk. They could've just made him the typical jerk or rival or that cringey love triangle trope but nope he's a really great guy. Supportive, fun, unique, and even when miles gets trapped with everyone arguing Hobie is the only one to go "Hey, remember that trick I showed you" and he didn't chase after miles.
i remember as he was introduced trying to dislike him because i thought hed put into that love traingle-ish rival type role and he was nothing but amazing the whole time and eventually i warmed up to him but hes one of the biggest reasons i want to see it again so i can fully appreciate everything about him from his introduction
Hobie my bro also literally bails out of the Spider Society once he gives Miles the trick to be freed; actual badass, hope he gets more screen time in Beyond the Spiderverse
My brother mentioned this in the theatre but I thought it was cool how they made the other miles say his name in a more Spanish accent to show that he grew up without his dad so he's more influenced by his mom.
The other Miles was voiced by a completely different person, Jharrel Jerome. He's actually Dominican and is more fluent in Spanish than Shameik Moore, who had to learn Spanish for his role! It's a super cool detail and I think casting another person to voice Prowler Miles was an important (and good) decision.
I remember being in the theatre thinking "Man, it's weird to spend so long on a throw away villain." Convinced he only existed to tie up Miles to show the divide growing between Miles and his parents.
@@rayanna7188 It's damn cool, every universe has it's own artstyle, i mean yeah that was made clear in the original too, but man did they crank it up to 11 in this one
All the scenes in Gwen's universe were so visually amazing, it was like watching an art film. Not what you'd expect from something with a big ol "MARVEL" sticker on it, lol. And I'm all for it
Once Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out, I know for a fact rewatching the Spider-Verse Trilogy will be a yearly thing for me. Just an absolute masterpiece of animation and storytelling.
I honestly think they’re not actual bad guys (?) maybe anti heros at most. when you live in a crazy universe ruled by the sinister 6 with no spider man, you do what you gotta do lol. there was just something about the way that Miles seemed to be hiding that doesn’t strike me as necessary in that kind of world
@Sara Yeah, I can see Prowler Miles becoming more of an anti-hero than villain. If you listen closely at the end, you can hear J. Jonah Jameson on the news mentioning something about the "Sinister Six Cartel." Maybe they are the real villains in that universe.
@@moonchild977 You are onto something, the OG Prowler did start as a tech based thief, but after a few bouts with Spidey he turned around his life, truth be told... with the exception of Miles' mythos Prowler, the character is pretty much a hero and a good friend of Peter.
I love how well Miguel as a villain represents the fundamental flaw of the Spider Society’s doctrine: that Spider-People are defined by their trauma and that their trauma is essential. Miguel is completely defined by his trauma: everything he now does is rigidly defined by the trauma he suffered. And it makes sense that this would allow him to command the respect of the other Spider-People who have almost all suffered some trauma of their own.
I’m convinced that canon events as Miguel aren’t even real and it’s another comment on audiences fixation on canon that’s portrayed through Miguel, like audiences rejection of Miles as Spider-Man. For example, neither Earth-42 or Miles’s universes were destroyed by his supposed anomaly and Pavitr’s canon event was only caused by the Spot, who is supposed to be an anomaly caused by Miles. I think that Miguel is just overwhelmed by guilt for what happened to his family and has burdened that on all of spider society, the moral being that everyone is different, there is no set path in life that defines you or that you or anyone else can control
And if you read the comics or look up his history, Miguel trying to give his trauma meaning is more understandable when you realize that his father was abusive. Stuff like that can really fuck somebody up to the point of trying rationalize it, so it makes sense that Miguel would try to make people do that too.
@@joshuawilliams947l read a comment that said that after miles becoming spider man the universe forced him into canon events with a captain and so on And spot causing pavitr's canon event is coincidental as it just has to be a friendly captian being crushed while saving a kid unrelated by who caused it It's still bullshit that so many spiders decided to sacrifice people instead of saving everyone That is not the spider way
@@dizdawgjr34 I still find bad movies super boring, but it does feel like I get something out of it for it’s lack of good quality. Mid movies are a weird middle ground.
4:48 I’d also like to point out that not only was this a really cool/cute bit, but it was also animated by a 14 YEAR OLD. I think it was insanely cool of them to have this kid animate in a movie this huge. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the entire movie.
@@thedonner7746 Yeah! The kid originally had animated the trailer for the movie on his UA-cam channel. Someone saw it and they asked him to animate the Lego scene!
i honestly liked the quick humor a lot. it felt more like the way people make jokes in real life, as opposed to the dialogue feeling like it was "designed" to be in a movie. edit: echoing the replies- the audio mixing was definitely unfortunate in this regard, hopefully it won't be an issue once this movie hits streaming 😔
@@ernestmendoza4469Yeah it was mixed wrong, it has since been fixed. Apparently was a Cinema issue not an issue with the film. Saw it a few hours ago, didn’t miss a line 👍
the only thing i hated was that the plot only started in the last 30 mins omg 😭like i was so invested AND THEN IT ENDED ON A CLIFFHANGER??!?! like ik they could have finished it off w/o a cliffhanger but nope they decided to cram in miles' home life.
@@zainab_hashmiii it was already decided to be a two parter like a year ago, we already knew it would end on a cliffhanger. Doesn't make me wish for the second part any less rn
@@zainab_hashmiii They did something similar in Spiderman Homecoming, and I kind of get it, but like...I agree with you. Too much of Miles and Gwen's home life, but also, I related to them so much throughout it all. I loved the slice of life, but there was SO much of it. Left me kinda wanting more action, like, even the action felt really laid back, as if they had fewer ideas for plot and way more ideas for corny jokes, which is fine, but I mean, come on. I guess the point was to juxtapose how immature they are. Even the adults were either out of their depth, which was hilarious, or far too diabolical for their own good, which felt mean spirited. It left me wanting more answers, more characters who actually knew what they were doing. We didn't get more of that til the middle. There is too much setup in this movie to satisfy me completely, but I'm fine with it. I'm fine with being a little unsatisfied, so long as the third part is everything we are promised and more, so long as this sequel is only so saturated in filler to give the animators and writers a chance to breath, which is weird to say considering this movie was actually kind of perfect. Animation-wise, character-wise, this movie went above and beyond. I can forgive them for shoehorning us a bit. It's still well worth the money. It's just...I dunno. A lot of my friends love the slice of life stuff, but some of my friends didn't, and I understand.
@@zainab_hashmiii yeah i totally agree, I honestly think it being a 2 parter is just a cash grab or something, because the movie was sick but the pacing wasn't the best. one of the examples of this is that it took a whole hour JUST for miles to travel through the multiverse. This movie was definitely good though, and like how schafrillas said it did show a lot about Gwen and Miles' life. Still was a good movie and I'm excited for the second one, i just don't think that it really needed to be a 2 parter and some things could have been taken out.
To me the most impressive musical moment was whenever they would incorporate Miguel’s theme into dramatic tracks to make his presence and ideology stand out, similarly to how they played with the Prowler’s theme but FAR more impressive imo
Can we just talk about how beautiful Gwen's dimension looked? The watercolor-esque painted backgrounds and the way they sometimes seeped into the characters gave it this dreamlike aesthetic, and I loved how it was used during Gwen's talk with her dad.
Her universe's artstyle was meant to look like her comic book issues from it's VERY similar visual aesthetics! If you look at her comics, you will instantly be able to tell!
the ending shot where she looks into her dimensions new york after getting kicked out of the spider corps was absolutely stunning, especially with the beautiful music playing in the background
@TheGlassesPro and EXACTLY also, trans people don’t own anything here with those colors as Gwen has been having those colors in her comic for over a decade and no one would EVER associate her with “tRaNs” in the slightest, it’s just people seeing things that aren’t there at all here.
@@platpeters1975 And it’s pretty pathetic and just plain said that your first comment on this channel is to spread misinformation garbage like this as NOTHING about Gwen is “tRaNs” AT ALL in ANY way, it’s all in your head that you’ve been badly believing here as you are. It’s just sick and just plain disgusting as Gwen is 100% female as she even gets married to miles and has biological kids with Miles. Something trans people can NEVER do, so stop spreading nonsense here as you are as it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about at all here.
Miguel wasn’t even an antagonist… he was just very similar to Strange in NWH and that even though these were the canon fates… they had to happen for the sake of the multiverse. It was just that the rash teenage Spider Man wanted to change that even though they couldn’t
@@cloudshines812 An antagonist is just someone who opposes the protagonist (thus the name) they don't have to have malicious intentions to be antagonists, if they did we'd call 'em a villain
I feel like a lot of Miguel’s character was kinda scrubbed, so he can be more of a antagonist to Miles. It’s funny that he calls Miles the original anomaly when he is literally the most different Spider-Man in terms of his origins, his powers, his character traits, etc. In fact, he’s more different to Peter or the “canon” than Miles is. I don’t think he even has a “Captain Stacy” moment in the comics lol.
@@bonesmx8562What I love about Miguel is that in some ways, he’s right that you shouldn’t change some events drastically, but with the Gwen storyline, it’s shown that you CAN change events through smaller events (like Gwen revealing herself as Spider-Woman and making her dad quit the police force).
Unfortunately, the creators for the movie have been saying that some theaters have been using the wrong audio mixes of the movie since the correctly mixed version is one of six different versions they gave to theaters and that's why some parts of it are difficult to hear. This will likely be fixed once the movie is released for video and streaming but it's mostly the fault of the theaters not using the right channels instead of there being a problem with the movie itself.
That's good that they're fixing it! I watched this movie in the movie theater & some of the parts in the movie were pretty hard to hear. Especially Hobie's speaking parts
Starting with Gwen is so genius. Set the emotional stakes and really dig into her perspective. The colors in her world are also so gorgeous. Breathtaking
Not just that but she also makes this film feel complete on its own. Sure, we got left with a HUGE cliffhanger but theres some satisfaction in the plot because Gwen makes up with her dad and has real development. This was her film, youre right. Its interesting because her character develops and Miles character actually regresses. Hes been betrayed hurt, he’s desperate, scared, and lost. Gwen literally makes this movie. Genius writing from the team to make this movie so much more of an amazing experience. Im so glad they decided to split the movie in 2 parts
That’s a great point that Gwen’s arc adds a component of completion to the narrative. She and her father reconcile, tying up that thread, but the fact that her father did not stay captain and thus did not have to die spurs her on to save Miles and in turn, his father as well.
One of the things I really like about the film is that it begins in Gwen’s universe paralleling how the first movie began in Miles’ universe, this and other hints throughout the film connecting them. Miles said it best, “we’re the same”.
This was a very smart choice because it gave the movie a bit of closure; Gwen went through a full character arc, with her identity and her relationship with her father, while Miles' arc is still to be done.
I realized when Miles and his Peter first met, the colors around him were green and purple, the same colors as the Prowler, because he was supposed to be the Prowler of his dimension. Then the green and purple transitions to red and blue. They've been planning this since day 1.
@@Shadow_Noceda I've always known it was from another universe, but I never expected it to be sent to Earth 1610 the exact time it was supposed to bite Miles of Earth 42.
@@fatuousinnovatorofsadness4640 That specifically is an easy mistake, but the Prowler colors were definitely intentional. Why not use other colors instead of green and purple?
@@zacharygate9842i always assumed it was because his spider sense was shifting from noticing the threat of the green goblin (the green) and the prowler (the purple) to peter parker. idk it really could be either!
I don’t see nearly enough people talking about Medieval Vulture. Just saying, he was, in my personal opinion, the best-animated part of the entire movie. The way he interacted with the Spiders was mesmerizing, and I would absolutely watch a movie where it’s animated in his style.
personally i was probably more awed by the backgrounds and everything in the scenes with gwen and her dad later in the movie but yeah the da Vinci vulture was animated gorgeously
Spider-Punk at some point literally mentions that he hates consistency, which is perfectly reflected in his animation style, as he’s the only character that changes art style from frame to frame (apart from the background in Gwen’s universe)
The art styles are just incredible. I especially love when Gwen is talking to her dad later in the movie and the art style changes every change in scene.
Spider-Punk alone took the animators 3 years to animate. This movie is truly revolutionary. As Nick said, the first movie was a demo for what the animation team could do. This movie is what happens when you let that same animation team actually go off. And not just that. Everything in this movie is cranked up to 12. So much effort has been put into this movie, there’s so many Easter eggs in the background. The onomatopoeia in the Mumbattan dimension IS IN HINDI. HOW MUCH MORE COULD YOU WISH FOR IN A MOVIE.
My only complaint about the movie was that it ended. I somehow missed the notice that it was going to be a two-parter and I was so invested into the story that by the end I didn't even realize 2 hours has crossed. Hell I thought we were only halfway through by that point (technically correct) so I was getting so excited for the finale and then suddenly gut punch "to be continued"
LITERALLY me saw it with my dad and brother, god it hurt walking outta that theater knowing i couldnt see more! we were all chatting on the ride home and it kept coming up lol
Oh my god mood, I knew as little as possible about the movie as I could but around the 2 hour Mark I realized "Hey wait a second this is an animated movie why does it feel this long?" and at the end the music built up more than once and anytime it did I was BEGGING to not cliffhang AND THEN IT DID WHEN I STARTED TO THINK IT WOULDN'T END One guy behind me said "Well now I feel robbed" and god that was such mood
It made me happy. The next movie is gonna start with the climax to this one. How insane is the third movie going to be? Usually when a climax happens, the movie ends. But not with this one. It's the beginning now. That makes me so happy.
The dialogue overlapping was something that highly impressed me, especially during moments meant to be humorous, because that’s how people actually talk. You don’t always wait for someone to finish a sentence before beginning your own. It felt so natural and fun to see characters do this.
nah it was fr so smart because everyone picked up on it at different times. i felt so smart when i saw the jordans on the prowler and realized it was miles
Apparently the reason the spot was missing for like an hour was because he was bullying every other villain. There were deleted scenes where the spot was mocked by villains and then the post credit scene was gonna have him solo all of them, explaining where he was for an hour Edit: it was also in a bar and would probably be accused of ripping off HISHE when it’s more of a homage
There was actually a snippet in Miguel's lair where you could see footage of The Spot on one of his screens, and the reason why the post-credit scene was cut was because it felt ill-fitting with the cliffhanger.
Yea honestly The Spot was awesome. I really thought he would be the villain of the week, but he turned out to be pretty terrifying once he really got into his powers. He pretty much became god of reality, and that god of reality is angry at Miles. Shit is scary.
I understand wanting more of The Spot because of how good he was when he was on screen, but I think having Miguel take over as the primary antagonist of the film was a a very purposeful and meaningful decision. Even though Miles didn't want to accept it at first, The Spot is his nemesis. And not just that, he was always destined to be Miles' nemesis. Yes, it's natural for Miles to want to focus his efforts on stopping him, but after learning more about the multiverse, he keeps himself from doing so. This is because he learns about the meta nature of all Spider-mens' fate. Certain people are always supposed to die, and certain villains are supposed to be fought with to the bitter end. But Miles refused to accept that that's the way things need to be. Continuing to engage with The Spot would only be playing into the hand of Destiny. Miguel isn't supposed to be rejected by Miles. He's a good guy, and so are all of the other Spider-men who listen to him. Refusing, rebelling against and fighting off all of them is Miles' only real way to combat destiny itself. And I believe that's what the theme of the movie is at its core. That love and humanity have value that can surpass seemingly infallible algorithms and data-based utilitarian solutions. It's about finding another way even when all logic and reason seems to tell you that there is none.
Honestly for me, the extremely fast pace of the jokes worked for me. It always felt fun to notice them, but they never felt like they were detouring from the plot itself to tell the jokes, but rather the jokes were interwoven into the larger world, as such a serious thing as the endangerment of the multiverse would feel undercut if every joke was worth slowing down for, but when they are more like small quips thrown in, they become a lot more natural. The jokes can even give the film more enjoyment from a rewatch, as if there was anything you missed, you’d probably pick it up on a second viewing. Not every joke needs to land or be funny as long as that joke isn’t the focus of the audience. With the focus mostly always having either action, it creates an environment where the comedy acts as essentially the films garnish. Not necessarily integral to the dish, but it does make it look a lot prettier. Idk, that’s just my take away.
That's my only problem with this review and most reviews is because that's the whole point of those quips, is to give a second, third, fourth watch a thing to point out and laugh at. It's so you can watch this movie multiple times and not get tired of it, it's for the longevity.
@@thegoodone4104 Yeah i like this way of doing quips. slowing the pace down and giving the audience time to laugh and notice the jokes leads to Marvel "audience space"
Honestly I loved the part when miles is running and Gwen webbed him with a hurt look on her face and he just snapped the web, I don’t see very many movies where the main character gets betrayed by the love interest and doesn’t just immediately forgive her so this was satisfying
Miles was hurt BADLY by Gwen, as well as Peter B. it’s satisfying to see him make some sensible, human decisions in this film while keeping with what makes spider-man, spider-man, even when he’s the only once acting like it. Peter’s betrayal is definitely bad, but Gwen’s is across the whole film of lies and half-truths to Miles, and Miles becoming fed up and giving up on her is so satisfying. I loved Gwen’s character arc and character development in this film too, it made it easy to not hate her, despite the bullshit. She grew and eventually came to the Spider-Man decision over “the book” decision. Man, this movie’s story and character dynamics have SO MUCH to gush about, oh my fucking GOD.
Jason Schwartzman as The Spot was PERFECT casting. Jason’s characters in movies (most notably gideon from scott pilgrim) are always nerdish and snarky, but here in across the spiderverse, it felt so natural. He perfectly portrays the alchemax nerdy lab worker and later when the spot becomes a massive threat, his line delivery is top notch. Especially when he lets out his emotional turmoil.
Can I just talk about how Amazingly cast Jason Schwartzman was as The Spot? Between this and Gideon Graves he's really mastered the art of playing pathetic yet menacing villains
For real though. I spent the first half of his part laughing and thinking "how pathetic" to having my heart stop and be genuinely terrified. That's in part to both the animation and his acting.
I think he was great! However, for me him and Miles sounded too similar. In a couple of the fight scenes I struggled to figure out which of them was actually speaking. Especially since The Spot doesn't have a mouth and Miles has his mask on, so there's no mouth movement... and since it's a fight, they're not usually focusing on the speaker but the whole fight. I don't know if this is just a me problem since I do have some audio processing issues (and I'm not American so I can't tell accents apart if they do have different accents?) but yeah. The voice acting was excellent though!
His "I'm gonna take everything from you, like you took everything from me" is genuinely menacing. And I think it works BECAUSE it's softer instead of big and booming.
when I was watching him traverse it I was like “wow brooklyn sure got a lot greener since he was last here” and had the inkling it felt different, sure enough it was. that cutting between gwen and miles was so clever to mask it until it was revealed.
I like Peter B’s story because, he got his happy ending with MJ and Mayday, so he feels torn between protecting his happy ending (the timeline) and his Spider-Friend Miles. Again, this is something that could be enhanced by the part 2, we really don’t know
Honestly the humor was one of the best parts for me. The chaotic quipping was very fun to listen to for me. Reminded me of how my friends and I joke over each other all the time.
i agree. i just wish I could've actually heard what they were saying. i saw it twice and realized i missed so much dialogue the first time because i wasn't straining to hear the dialogue. such an unfortunate technicql problem with an otherwise perfect movie
@@ernestmendoza4469maybe that’s why I was one of the few people laughing in my theater. My sister literally had to turn around to ask me what some characters were saying 😭😭
yeah while i think the audio mixing could have helped, i did think it had a more realistic vibe to the way jokes land w friends. i felt that way abt all of their interactions- they felt organic and not so staged.
Personally, I felt the lack of Spot was an important narrative choice as the whole point was they did not consider him as much of a threat as Miguel. The movie itself undermines him like the characters do until he comes back and he’s suddenly VERY much a problem. I think he will definitely get his time in Beyond the Spiderverse with Miguel as a secondary antagonist.
Also can we talk about how Renaissance Vulture was HAND DRAWN? I’m losing my mind over that design. Maybe the coolest visual component of the film. So unique
I absolutely loved that scene! And if the visuals weren´t cool enough themselves, the classical opera from Vultures´s era remixed with modern hip-hop from current times made it one of the best cinematic experiences I ever witnessed.
The art style they use on Captain Stacey and Gwen when they’re talking in their apartment is so powerful to me. The use of big blocky colors and the hard edges to the characters is beautiful. This is the first movie I’ve seen since I was a kid that left me in awe
I think the cliff hanger was as natural as a cliffhanger can be. If the movie kept going, the animation and storytelling would have suffered plus the pacing is amazing as a result
right. with how fast-paced the movie was, they would've either had to cut out a lot, or made the (already very long) movie even longer. i think the story ended at a pretty good point, too-- gwen finally found the courage to stand up to the spider-society, and there's set up for the next movie's beginning conflict.
Jason Schwartzman was such a surprising choice to play him too. Dude somehow manages to create so much humor and unhinged behavior into this guy that I don't know who's idea it was to cast him. But good heavens was it a good choice.
About the audio balancing, two versions of the movie were sent out to theaters: One where the dialogue and music volumes are well balanced, and another where the music obscures some of the dialogue because the dialogue only plays through speakers at the back of the theater. This seeming mistake on Sony’s part may be why Schaff was able to connect with the humor better on a 2nd viewing, he may have watched the version with the better audio balancing.
yea. i had a hard time hearing the dialogue, especially hobie’s dialogue. i kept an ear out but still, i could not figure out what he was saying for a good bit of his screen time
You can tell this movie is amazing because even though its really long, I was so invested in the story that I was honestly surprised when it ended "so soon." I knew it was a cliff hanger ending, but somehow I still didn't expect the cliff hanger.... and this also means that the story will be even LONGER when the next part comes out!
It was a little unfortunate that Peter B was sidelined but he still had some great scenes, it's more that the other characters (besides MJ) just refused to take him seriously. Even Miles was dismissive of him despite Peter pouring his heart out. Miguel's flashback implied Peter had a much larger hand in the plot and I hope they pay that off.
Tbh the true unforgivable sidelining was of the legendary Spider-Noir That and Penni Parkers more Evangelion feel (which is not a good sign, i feel like between the 2 films she's had her fair share of Canon Events and then some)
i dont think peter b needed a bigger role in the movie, he already had a lot in the first movie and his arc was over. it makes more sense to focus on other characters for this movie
I think the emotional heart to hearts hit harder in this movie.. the art style in Gwen's dimension really complimented their arguments and resolutions. My jaw dropped from those beautiful scenes. The entire movie was bigger, so definitely a successful sequel.
Peter's entire speech to Miles was really well done. "YOU'RE THE REASON I HAD HER OKAY?!....I thought if I did enough of a decent job raising her, she'd turn out like you. And it got me excited because you are a WONDERFUL PERSON. And I LIKE HANGING AROUND YOU OKAY?!" Like you KNOW he really feels that but he also feels deep down sometimes bad things happen and there's nothing you can do about them. He isn't seeing things from MILES' perspective. He's too used to the trauma. His heart's in the right place, but his head is in his ass lol
its not about how fast it was. the speed was good but the sound mixing was terrible and kaluhas lines especially couldve done with retakes as they were mumbled
@@ghostmemeboi that could because each theater was specifically requested by the creators to have their volume at seven, some theaters didn’t do this, and made the audio a less than enjoyable experience. Look it up.
@@wolv470 Yup, I saw the movie dubbed in spanish and there were problems with the volume, as at first the sound was really low, then they got it too high and they clearly changed some setting because the high pitches in the music were destroying everyone's ears, but when they got it right, the dialogue was crystal clear, despite the speakers not being the best quality either. Once its released digitally I bet everyone will be able to hear the dialogue correctly.
_Yeah, i'm on my fourth rewatch and it delights me how many jokes and details i missed the first time and i see now. I don't know how I missed it, but my favorite line from the movie is "hypothesis: i'm going to stick my head in this hole"_
I personally found myself liking the 2nd movie more than the 1st, but that's because I love it when stories get past the introductory phase, and we really get into the meat of the story 😁
The scene showing the Spot's past and how it's all black and white was so cool, I got goosebumps just watching it not only with how great the visuals were, but the story behind it too
The animation in this movie was spectacular and I’m so happy to see that they kept Mile’s development from the first movie. It was so nice to see him being more confident in his abilities, and his face at the end really cemented the fact that like he said “I’m not scared of anything anymore”
The design of this movie was absolutely spectacular, the fact that you largely forget about one of the coolest ever character designs in Renaissance Vulture by the mid-point shows how fucking insane the artists at work are.
On the note of “dialogue is too quiet”, it was designed to be played at a specific noise level, and for some reason, some places didn’t do that. At the right level the dialogue and action was more balanced
Wait, I only have to wait 9 MONTHS?!? I thought Beyond the Spider Verse would release in like 3 years. This is the best news I’ve heard! Edit: I guess the movie’s getting delayed so my original 3 yr prediction might be closer to reality
Well with the writers strike I could see it releasing in a year rather than nine months but that’s way better than the gap between this film and the original which was 5 years.
@@vadernation1233 If I managed to wait a year between Infinity War and Engame, I can wait the same amount of time between Across and Beyond. Part of the sound mixing is that it's been confirmed that for whatever reason apparently a lot of theaters haven't ended up playing the movie at the volume it was mixed for.

I’m so glad someone mentioned the dialogue problem! I thought it was just my auditory processing disorder, but it turns out others are having the same problem hearing what the characters are saying in some scenes 😭😭 I honestly could not hear a word Hobie was saying in his intro and it made me sad
I think the more serious approach fits perfectly. In the first movie Miles was completely oblivious to everything but now he is stressed and learning the magnitude of the situation. So in a way I think the tone of the movie fits Miles’ growth throughout the movies
"Nah. Imma do my own thing." That line is going to *DEFINE* who Miles Morales is as a character going forward. Where as previously it was "that's all it is Miles. A leap of faith." Before it was someone else who helped define him. Now, he's defining himself. They've done a great job at setting up the fact he does things his way; he doesn't just swing across NYC he runs, he does parkour cause that's what MILES is good at and loves to do. His god damn shoelace is still untied in that iconic falling/rising shot. He openly challenges Miguel where most everyone just seems to blindly follow. He does graffiti and tags places across NYC. His own suit is a showcase of who he is and what he loves to do. And it breaks the mold of what a traditional Spider-Man suit looks like and how it's often made. Miles at his core is about redefining what it means to be Spider-Man; that he isn't JUST Spider-Man. He's Miles Morales too. Which is something the other spiders seem to forget. That Peter had to be reminded of. That you can be both the person under mask, and the hero. I think they're going to set it up to have him finally break the curse of Spider-Man. And it's going to be amazing to witness.
I do agree he breaks the mold for sure, but to say the others just blindly follows miguel weakens everyone including Miguel's character. They follow miguel because he keeps it together, he keeps the spiderverse together. He himself already done what miles is trying to do and suffered horribly having to watch his family once again be ripped away from him. Miles is just doing what miguel did and miguel is doing everything possible to stop him before he ruins actually everything. A metaphor he uses which speaks volume to his perspective and why everyone follows him is "would you save 1 person or every world of worlds in the spiderverse" or something similar basically asking the whole world or 1 person you care about. Miles of course thinks he can do both "does his own thing" Now I don't doubt he will be able to do both because you have to have a happy ending or otherwise it won't be satisfying apparently. Miles was never supposed to be spiderman but he is

I really loved how they handled the infamous “can’t save everyone” trope that Spider-Man media usually involves. It was done in such an interesting and cool way that really could make you feel like there was a good side to pick
@@bingpigs I mean sure but the core of Spider-Man’s beliefs is that they want to save everyone. I find it extremely hard to believe that Miles is the ONLY Spider-Man of all of these universes that wants to try and do that. And there’s definitely some that don’t know what’s coming (like Pavitr) so you can’t say that everyone already knows about the canon. The movie honestly left me so confused about that.
@@quennygreen But the thing is that a lot of Spider-Man have experienced the failure of trying to save everyone, for example Insomniac Spider-Man let his Aunt May die in order to save the rest of the city. Yes some Spider-Man should have sided with Miles, SOME. But the not all of the ones that side with Miguel are character assassination. Plus there's over 300 characters, the writers probably felt it was easier this way to create a story.
@@boluwatiferaufu6502 Considering Josh Keaton has provided his take that Spectacular was so broken and vulnerable by the losses in his life that whatever Miguel said got him to agree...hoo boy.
I love the fact that we start and sort of end with Gwen, she feels more involved and integral in this movie and I hope that continues for the third film!
I was pretty sad that Peter B didn't have a bigger role in this film since he qas my favourite character from Into the Spiderverse. That being said though, it wasn't all too bad since he was the Deutragonist of the first film, so its nice that they were able to give more focus to Gwen this time around. It was also really wholesome to see him get his happy ending since he really earned it after last film. I just wish that his conversation with Miles and how he saw him as his own son was a bit more fleshed out. It made me really sad to see him behaving so passively while Miles was being grilled by Miguel since he was Miles' mentor. Hopefully next film we get to see more of him and Mayday; it'd be nice to maybe see him stand up to Miguel in defense of Miles. It'd be really cool to see him fight as well, maybe against Ben, being his broody clone and all.
I definitely get where you’re coming from but for me after decade upon decade of Peter Parker being the focus character in Spider-Man stories, I will accept the minor sacrifice of a version of him I like getting a bit less to do in exchange for Miles getting to be at the forefront as I feel he more than deserves
I love how this movie feels the need to define certain words like “hammerspace” and “Scooby-doo” for the audience. Not only did it make for a solid visual gag, but it adds a whole new depth of self-awareness. This movie fucking rules
The funniest part about that for me is how they add one for the British slang Hobie uses but not any of the Spanish which is used fairly often. Not that they should’ve it’s just hilarious to me .
@@ABC218_ OH I FORGOT ABOUT NOT UNDERSTANDING THE SPANISH- but I heard that Miguel might have said the f word or any other curse word in Spanish, so maybe that’s why they didn’t have subtitles 💀
The dialogue was definitely hard to follow in the action scenes, but somehow, I absolutely loved it. It overwhelmed me in the best way possible. It kept me engaged
I didn't really have any problems following along with the dialogue in the action scenes. If I did at any point, it was because the dialogue volume was too low, in which case Sony has apparently addressed that by re-releasing the movie to theaters with an improved sound mix.
@@boyishdude1234 Ohhh, I was so confused by people saying they couldn't follow the dialogue, because I usually have a lot of problems following dialogue in movies or understanding people over the phone or even just processing real-life conversation if there's anything going on in the background, but I didn't really have much trouble with this movie despite how overwhelming everything SHOULD have been. But that's probably because I saw the "fixed" version, since I just saw it 2 days ago.
One thing that I love about Across the Spider-verse, that I don't think I've seen anyone talked about, is the music. My god, the OST when Miguel appeared or when Gwen was trying to save the helicopter from falling, the India fight, and many more were amazing. I was bopping my head each time banger music came throughout watching the film. What I love the most was when Miguel and Gwen's OST were mixed together into something that was mindblowing. Really love the movie so much!
Still listening to the music several times a day. It's beautiful the way each track tells a story so clearly. And the power in some of them... awesome.
Counterpoint: I actually love that I didnt really catch some of the things Hobie says the first time around because when I went back to watch it again it BLEW MY MIND, his opposition to the spider society is there the whole time but YOU DONT CATCH IT AT FIRST because just like Miles you're enamored by the scale of the whole organization and how cool it is, until it's revealed that it's not all it's cracked up to be.. SUCH COOL WRITING
I was simply GLUED to ATSV because of how MAGNIFICENT the art style in the entire thing is. From Spider-Punk, Gwen's universe, to Mumbattan, the movie just oozes with _style_ all the way and it's such a goddamn treat for your eyes.
as an art person being able to see the individual brush strokes in the rendering in gwen's universe, and then how the spider punk animators did his body on the 3s, his hair on the 2s and his guitar on the 4s a banger of a movie
Same!! I felt it flowed better with the action and narrative because it was in the background and not the focus. It was awesome, and there for those that picked it up as missing the jokes doesn't take away from the narrative or characters in those action packed scenes.
I laughed really hard, when Spider Man 67 came swinging towards Miles, with his theme song blasting, only to miss, because of how slow and stiff his swinging animation was.
I also think it was great. Not only that, but most of them came from Peter B., the one that has been through hell and made it out, now living happily with his wife and daughter, making him have a much more relaxed approach for serious situations. That plus spider-man's already joky nature makes it the Peter we saw on ATSV.
Into the spiderverse revolutionized animation and changed it forever. Across the spiderverse went EVEN HARDER with the animation. Like, when you thought it couldn't get better than this, it did.
I’m glad the dialogue issue got mentioned! Felt exactly the same, especially with a full audience. I blamed myself since I’m not a native speaker and felt very frustrated for a moment. Also couldn’t really read lips because of the skip frame effect and their masks lol
I thought Gwen’s character arc coming full circle was a good way to end the film and this movie honestly had a really great ending. I get that it’s not a complete story, but that doesn’t make the movie any worse and I’d still call it a masterpiece
i said this before but to me, they did a masterful work with both gwen and miles. with the first movie being dedicated to his personal growth and being an influence on others. but this is taking gwen who did grow but not enough needing to go through her own journey to reach the place miles did before. and the same way the movie starts with him doing his best to pursue her, now its her time to give it back, by going after him.
Yeah I think thats how you have to look at this movie, its WAY more focused on Gwen over the first movie and if you look at it from her point of view, it has a satisfying conclusion at the end. For Miles we get the big cliffhanger. Gwen went from being scared, leaving bands, estranging her father, falling in with people who didnt trust her to being confident, creating her own band not looking for approvement in others, reconciling with her dad and finally having a goal and believing in herself that she knows whats right or wrong. With a climactic end. If we take away Miles end we have a pretty satisfying conclusion for Gwens Character arc in this movie
The audio thing was such a big issue that Sony sent out new copies of the movie to theaters with revised audio. Some of the concerns were tackled like low volume in certain dialogue and the volume being too loud in certain action scenes. Basically a movie patch lol.
I know that miguel is the antaganist but I find it really impressive that I never saw him as the villain. Also I love how much they did with gwen in this movie
I don't think you were ever supposed to think that, and that was the point. Even when Miguel is straight up telling Miles he's an accident, even for how brutal he was being, it was still out of him trying to reason with Miles. I genuinely felt sorry for him, that's more pressure than anyone should bare, and seeing his personality from the end credit scene compared to the sequel, you can tell Miles has put a lot of stress on him. Miguel is as much of a victim as Miles, and that's one of the things that made him such a great antagonist.
@@yoursexualizedgrandparents6929 Yeah, even back in the trailer, when you heard Miguel "You have no idea what you're doing!" you not only can see the anger, but also notice a hint of desperation sadness in his intonation, which is confirmed by the movie itself. Granted there's no correlation of crossing universe cause incursion and following canon event to a tee. But I assume that's because Miguel himself is too afraid to find out the truth, and by his viewpoint it's not something you want to test because billions of lifes is at stake.
This movie absolutely SMASHED my expectations. I agree with a lot of what you said, and no you are not alone about not being able to hear or understand Hobbie, it was practically impossible make out what he was saying most of the time and I found that frustrating. He's such a dope character WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HIM.
I think the jokes being super fast and not focused on at all was a fantastic choice. I much prefer jokes that a lot of people miss to ones that get too much focus.
In regards to the sound balancing, I heard Lord and Miller had to put out a PSA to ask your theater if the sound settings are right bc apparently theaters have been using the incorrect settings, making stuff like the overlapping dialogue easily missed. After seeing two separate screenings at different theaters, I can see why. Neither were balanced the same way
Yeah I had zero problems with the sound mixing but I keep hearing this is an issue, so I can only assume my theater was playing it correctly and Schaff's wasn't
That actually makes sense because my theater had some weird sound things going on even before the movie started, parts of the trailers were just completely inaudible
That entire lego segment was animated by a 14 year old and pitched 5 months before the movie csme out, which is just amazing HUGE props to that kid for being able to put this movie on his resume
I don’t know if Spot vanishing is really that bad. For one, most of the conflict with Miguel centers AROUND the conflict with Spot; Spot is the one who’s going to kill Jeff, after all, and it isn’t until basically the end of the fight that his other motivations are brought up. For two, it feels similar to the conflict between Gwen and her father for me; yes, it’s put on the back burner for a large portion, but it’s still there in the back of your mind, like a ticking time bomb waiting to blow up.
i actually laughed when you said you thought this movie wasn’t funny, the theatre i was in was losing our minds every five seconds! i was able to follow all of the action scenes (except spider-punk’s opening scene because i am really bad with accents) and i usually need subtitles in movies whenever i can get them. i’m not saying you’re wrong, but i had a completely different experience and adored the snappy banter and dialogue in the fight scenes, it kept me so invested!
I think the incomprehensibility of Spider-punk's intro is kinda the point, like when he's talking to Spindia-Man and they say that they're both talking English and they're good friends, it just sounds weird (And tbf even as a Bri'ish "person" myself, even i didn't catch everything he said lmao) Also Peter Parkedcar is my new favorite Spider-Person.
I think the subtitles problem was also due to the sound issues - Lord and Miller have said that the initial release in theatres has some incorrect sound mixing, and to tell your local theatres to really crank it.
I thought the jokes were great tbh, they went by fast but that made it feel more natural, it adds to its rewatchability too. Also I think Peter was pretty important to this film as well since he adds to Miles feeling abandoned and alone. IMO this film needs to be seen as one half of a whole and I feel like you are evaluating it as a whole itself. So far I love both into the spiderverse and across the spiderverse, I think it’s a crescendo building up and I love how it’s built up
Apparently the audio thing is a theater/IMAX problem, and a weirdly common one at that. My first showing was in IMAX and it had some quiet audio during a lot of dialogue scenes but in another showing (regular) it was perfectly fine.
yeah it’s like an imax thing. From what I know the movie doesn’t have audio meant for imax but the theaters haven’t changed anything so it makes dialogue basically non-existent sometimes. I saw it in a normal theater the next time and it was fine.
Apparently this is a thing so widespread the directors put out a tweet saying to tell the mployees to turn the volume up and they made stickers for it which is so funny
I live in italy and had the exact same problem. For the first 40 minutes of the movie the music and effects were so loud I almost couldn't hear the dialogues
There were just so many phenomenal moments; the Gwen storyline, the emaculate animation improvement, THE MOTHERFUCKING SPECTACTULAR SPIDERMAN, just chef kiss

I just saw the movie last night (as I write this), and I'll tell you what, I was smiling ear to ear as I was walking out of the cinema. My mind was so blown, that as soon as I composed myself, my mind blew up again: it was THAT good!! What they did with The Spot was amazing, at one point I had the compulsion to draw a doodle of him and did so once I got my hands on my sketchbook later on. Hopefully, when I have time, I can turn that doodle into proper fan art. :D
I really hope they don’t pull a twist and make Miguel “evil”, I like him as an antagonist who genuinely is trying to do good. I feel bad for him, he’s isolated in his duty and has a lot of pressure and grief on his shoulders, it’d definitely push people to the limit. Also, the success of the animation in this film BETTER issue a second golden age of hyper-stylized artwork
Same, I really like Miguel as a character and I hope he gets a good ending. I’d love to see how he interacts with Miles when he’s not chasing him down lol
@@sentientmustache8360 I thought about a theory and this might be dumb, but maybe Jeff's death is not a canon event and can be prevented without causing an anomaly. Because in the original Spider-Man comics and in the TASM the Captain who died is a father of Spider-Man's girlfriend, and the Police Captain who Miles saved in Mumbattan is the father of Pavitr's love interest. What if since Jeff is not a father of Miles's love interest, Jeff's death does not count as a canon event. There's a pattern there, their death is not because of being a Police Captain, it's about being a father to a love interest.
Captain Stacy's death is pivotal because Spider-Man was hated by Gwen after that in the comics and it taught him a lesson to always keep her safe, and if the Police Captain of Mumbattan died, then that would've probably also taught Pavitr something. But in the case of Miles? Jeff's death wouldn't teach him anything that he didn't already know.
i highly doubt they'll do that to miguel. they seem to know how to keep evil characters evil, and good characters good. they easily could've made kingpin a redemtion villain in the first movie, given his backstory, but instead they stayed true to his character as a pure-evil villain. i'm sure they'll keep miguel the same treatment, keeping him as a hero at heart.
I feel like this film was just a step above into the spider verse and amazing in every sense of the word. Aside from the boundary pushing animation, the heartfelt dialogue and personally relatable relationships I share with both Gwen and Miles’ parents, it really skyrocketed this movie to my favorite movie of all time.
This!!! And honestly, I loved how snappy the humor and dialogue was. My sense of humor is kind of abrupt anyways, and the jokes felt like the kind of back-and-forth conversations I'd have with someone in real life. I thought Across the Spiderverse was so much funnier than the first one, it relied less on slap-stick humor and more on interpersonal relationships.
@@literalynxxoI laughed a lot more to this one than the first, I think in part like you my humor loves kind of abrupt things. Plus the references were really funny, like “Get Spider-Man!!” all the Spidermen pointing at each other 😂
to be honest i feel like the first one was waayy more better. like omg the movie was trying to juggle miles' home life AND the entire multiverse thingy. like the entire first hald was just gwen, then miles and then the last 30 minutes was when the plot actually started to become interesting. kinda overrated ngl
I’m mind boggled that this movie was able to take the absolutely phenomenal animation style of the first film and somehow make it even BETTER. It looks SO GOOD!!
Absolutely loved the fight in the Guggenheim. It had excellent fight choreography, the jokes were actually funny, Miguel's introduction was fantastic and his rapport with Gwen was my favorite in the entire movie. I loved the clash between "Overly serious, wants-to-be-in-charge" Miguel vs Gwen's good natured quipping, I loved how they got on the same wavelength with the helicopter rescue and how Miguel eventually realized that "Wait, actually she's really competent." And the scene right after with her dad UGH. And how Gwen managed to cut Miguel emotionally by saying "I don't know how to fix this" and he has a rare moment of kindness by taking her with him and Jess. The end of that scene vs the part where Miguel forces her back home is a fantastic representation of exactly how far gone he was.

I never noticed that since I watched the Spanish dub! That's so interesting!

I’m wondering if we’ll get to see him meet/save 1610 Jefferson Morales in the next one

They did something similar in Spiderman Homecoming, and I kind of get it, but like...I agree with you.

It was really heartfelt to me because my mom never fail to tell me how much she loves me…
that was honestly the best dialogue in the whole film

Can we just talk about how beautiful Gwen's dimension looked? The watercolor-esque painted backgrounds and the way they sometimes seeped into the characters gave it this dreamlike aesthetic, and I loved how it was used during Gwen's talk with her dad.
Her universe's artstyle was meant to look like her comic book issues from it's VERY similar visual aesthetics! If you look at her comics, you will instantly be able to tell!
the ending shot where she looks into her dimensions new york after getting kicked out of the spider corps was absolutely stunning, especially with the beautiful music playing in the background
gwen is trans, the colors in her universe are the trans flag.
Miguel was a fantastic antagonist. Even though he went against Miles, he still had understandable motives and seeing him in action was just crazy.
Miguel is definitely someone I can't wait to see be more expanded upon in Beyond

Starting with Gwen is so genius. Set the emotional stakes and really dig into her perspective. The colors in her world are also so gorgeous. Breathtaking
Honestly, Across the Spiderverse was her film more than it was Miles'. It starts with her and ends when her emotional arc is concluded.
@@cantaloupegodling352 I mean, soooort of. But Miles and his family had so much growth together. They really did feel like co-protagonists to me.
I loved how we got more of her but it still felt like a duo led movie, I didn't feel like either overshadowed the other which was really nice :)
As soon as Gwen started recalling with her progressively more intense drumming I thought to myself "This move is going to be incredible"

@@frewtlewps1152 YOOO that would be cool if true
One of the things I really like about the film is that it begins in Gwen’s universe paralleling how the first movie began in Miles’ universe, this and other hints throughout the film connecting them. Miles said it best, “we’re the same”.
This was a very smart choice because it gave the movie a bit of closure; Gwen went through a full character arc, with her identity and her relationship with her father, while Miles' arc is still to be done.
In the important ways, obviously!
I realized when Miles and his Peter first met, the colors around him were green and purple, the same colors as the Prowler, because he was supposed to be the Prowler of his dimension. Then the green and purple transitions to red and blue. They've been planning this since day 1.
Also the spider that bite Miles in the first movie had glitch effects like the Spidermen when they are in another universe, cool foreshadowing
@@Shadow_Noceda I've always known it was from another universe, but I never expected it to be sent to Earth 1610 the exact time it was supposed to bite Miles of Earth 42.

The art styles are just incredible. I especially love when Gwen is talking to her dad later in the movie and the art style changes every change in scene.

Apparently the reason the spot was missing for like an hour was because he was bullying every other villain. There were deleted scenes where the spot was mocked by villains and then the post credit scene was gonna have him solo all of them, explaining where he was for an hour
Edit: it was also in a bar and would probably be accused of ripping off HISHE when it’s more of a homage
Oh My god. I need yo SEE that. I need yo SEE spot just going ham on other spiderman villains
Perhaps we shall see him kicking ass next year.
There was actually a snippet in Miguel's lair where you could see footage of The Spot on one of his screens, and the reason why the post-credit scene was cut was because it felt ill-fitting with the cliffhanger.
My favorite part about this movie low key is the fact that they used the bagel guy as the spot
That was so funny 🤣🤣🤣 when he started detailing his story just to get cut off
Yea honestly The Spot was awesome.
Plus, Spider-Man is known for his quips. It just works from a character perspective too!

@@theforbiddensauce I honestly expect him in beyond the spiderverse, he's one of their best.
@@hyperstargaming6150 I agree that Gwen was so compelling. Peter B Parker got on my nerves tho haha.
Just saw it an hour ago, and I noticed that he shook his head slightly at that moment. Thought that was interesting.
I also thought he played his role as Jesper in the movie Klaus very well.
His voice was getting to me the whole movie and when I looked him up afterwards I screamed
I loved the little hints of miles in the wrong universe from the screen quickly showing Earth 42 to Miles' mum having green eyes instead of brown
The first one was on screen for more than a second. The second one, sir, you have a real love for detail 👍
Oh i just noticed that for miles the sky was green and for Gwen the sky was blue
She (and then Aaron later) ask him "what's up with your hair?"
Same. I completely missed the Earth-42 references, but her eyes were different. Like Hitchcock's bomb under the table idea. Wonderful thrill
when I was watching him traverse it I was like “wow brooklyn sure got a lot greener since he was last here” and had the inkling it felt different, sure enough it was. that cutting between gwen and miles was so clever to mask it until it was revealed.

Personally, I felt the lack of Spot was an important narrative choice as the whole point was they did not consider him as much of a threat as Miguel. I think the cliff hanger was as natural as a cliffhanger can be.
If the movie kept going, the animation and storytelling would have suffered plus the pacing is amazing as a result
Agree. Granted, I gave a loud “UGH” when it ended though 😆
right. with how fast-paced the movie was, they would've either had to cut out a lot, or made the (already very long) movie even longer. i think the story ended at a pretty good point, too-- gwen finally found the courage to stand up to the spider-society, and there's set up for the next movie's beginning conflict.
Tbh I was blown away when I heard shaif say that we’d have to wait 9 months, I never thought it would be that short of a time

Jason Schwartzman was such a surprising choice to play him too. Dude somehow manages to create so much humor and unhinged behavior into this guy that I don't know who's idea it was to cast him. But good heavens was it a good choice.
Spot is now one of my favorite Spider-Man villains ever thanks to this movie.
I heard that some theaters had it at the wrong volume too. Fortunately, my experience was good.
How do they mess that up? Was that a last minute change that they didn't fully manage to fix for all the prints?
Makes sense. I didn't have a problem with hearing the dialogue.

This happened to me too! I thought it was an issue with the theater I was in.
Miguel's flashback implied Peter had a much larger hand in the plot and I hope they pay that off.

its not about how fast it was. the speed was good but the sound mixing was terrible and kaluhas lines especially couldve done with retakes as they were mumbled

Because too loud can be a problem if it changes to lower volume I ask youtubers alot of the time for a higher volume ceiling for videos that they do more so when talking voice is very high for main youtuber and thier friend is much lower or dear god if the fx in the background is so loud it is louder then the youtuber or a game fx ping ping ping Crystal collecting what are you saying there are to many crystal being picked up one by one.
THIS ^^^
I think that’s why hobie respects miles so much because he himself is an unconventional Spider-Man and goes against the grain
Miles of course thinks he can do both "does his own thing"
Now I don't doubt he will be able to do both because you have to have a happy ending or otherwise it won't be satisfying apparently. Miles was never supposed to be spiderman but he is

I really loved how they handled the infamous “can’t save everyone” trope that Spider-Man media usually involves. It was done in such an interesting and cool way that really could make you feel like there was a good side to pick

@@subjectnivleis7572 definitely not, i thought it handled the idea of duty vs desire really well
@@bingpigs I mean sure but the core of Spider-Man’s beliefs is that they want to save everyone.
I didn’t have time to read those definitions 😭😭

The dialogue was definitely hard to follow in the action scenes, but somehow, I absolutely loved it. It overwhelmed me in the best way possible. It kept me engaged
I didn't really have any problems following along with the dialogue in the action scenes. If I did at any point, it was because the dialogue volume was too low, in which case Sony has apparently addressed that by re-releasing the movie to theaters with an improved sound mix.
@@boyishdude1234 Yeah, that's most likely why they corrected the sound mix. I dont know what version I saw
And the power in some of them... awesome.
Metro booming also did a good job
Counterpoint: I actually love that I didnt really catch some of the things Hobie says the first time around because when I went back to watch it again it BLEW MY MIND, his opposition to the spider society is there the whole time but YOU DONT CATCH IT AT FIRST because just like Miles you're enamored by the scale of the whole organization and how cool it is, until it's revealed that it's not all it's cracked up to be.. I was simply GLUED to ATSV because of how MAGNIFICENT the art style in the entire thing is. From Spider-Punk, Gwen's universe, to Mumbattan, the movie just oozes with _style_ all the way and it's such a goddamn treat for your eyes.
as an art person being able to see the individual brush strokes in the rendering in gwen's universe, and then how the spider punk animators did his body on the 3s, his hair on the 2s and his guitar on the 4s
a banger of a movie
@@catfeldman3614 I'm literally a digital artist and yes I am pogging HARD at the breadth of art styles featured in the movie :))
I actually felt the comedy was really good in this, i didn't mind that it was kinda in the background it really worked for me
Same. I was cackling the entire time
"it's a metaphor for capitalism" had me cackling.
That makes since cause I waited weeks to watch it and had no issues with the audio
I know that miguel is the antaganist but I find it really impressive that I never saw him as the villain. Also I love how much they did with gwen in this movie
I mean antagonists aren’t always villains. Antagonists just make it hard for the protagonist to reach their goal.
Because he’s not a villain
I don't think you were ever supposed to think that, and that was the point. Even when Miguel is straight up telling Miles he's an accident, even for how brutal he was being, it was still out of him trying to reason with Miles. I genuinely felt sorry for him, that's more pressure than anyone should bare, and seeing his personality from the end credit scene compared to the sequel, you can tell Miles has put a lot of stress on him. Miguel is as much of a victim as Miles, and that's one of the things that made him such a great antagonist.
Just like Protagonists aren’t always heroes, Antagonists aren’t always villains

I KNOW! It was unbelievably frustrating but the second watch made it even more worth it haha😅
yeah it’s like an imax thing.

The only truly evil thing i can see him doing is trying to kill Jefferson to save Miles’ universe
Aside from the boundary pushing animation, the heartfelt dialogue and personally relatable relationships I share with both Gwen and Miles’ parents, it really skyrocketed this movie to my favorite movie of all time.

the NOTES on screen had me 😭
Absolutely loved the fight in the Guggenheim.
