    HOW TO REPLACE TIMING CHAINS ON CADILLAC CTS • HOW TO REPLACE TIMING ...
    Hey Folks! Welcome back to the channel. In this video I'll show how to reset a timing chain tensioner from a GM vehicle. This one happens to belong to a Cadillac CTS with the 3.6L V6 motor. Be sure to check out the timing chain replacement videos too. We had to replace the timing chains because of codes P0008 and P0017. The 3.6L (Alloytec, high feature, HFV6) motor also came in the Cadillac SRX, STS, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevy Malibu, among others.

    Is the balance shaft tensioner SUPPOSED to have give after activation, or should it lock in place like the timing tensioner does once activated?

    Okay so I got a 4.2 vortec straight-6 on a 02 TrailBlazer I'm trying to do the timing I just redid the head gasket got it to start once then it died would not start again got my timing cover off trying to loosen my tensioner but it seems like the tensioner is stuck or does not want to compress even when you released the little lever thingy on the tensioner it does not compress to loosen up what's wrong or what am I doing wrong

    I have a 2014 Cadillac SRX 3.6 v6 and on a cold start it clatters for about one to two seconds. Then it stops and runs fine until I kill the motor and if I wait maybe 30 minutes it will again clatter on startup and again it stops. Any ideas.

    If i had my timing belt and water pump changed and valve cover gasket changed....should the tuning chain tensions have been changed at the same time to save money....in the long run?

    you really have to mention to really seat the the plunger to the bottom properly ( I do it with a vise) otherwise you will have to redo the tensioner job as it will not work... I had that happened to me brand new in the box. so now I rest them myself before install... GM is crap!!!

    This video did not help at all. My tensioner is a ratchet type that does not allow to push the piston back into the housing. What is the process to reset a ratchet tape tensioner?

  • @fparedes86

    Hello, this is the third time I have opened my car due to chain rattle. I noticed that once you activate the left and right tensiónese, there’s a certain area where it locks up and prevents the tensioner a from bottoming out. Well my lower tensioner, the one with the guide doesn’t seem to extend to that point where it prevents it from bottoming out and when I rotate the crank, the tensioner bottoms out and the chain gets loose. So my question is, is the bottom tensioner suppose to bottom out and certain engine rotation by hand? I know this video is old but I would really appreciate your response. Thank you! And yes! ‘Merica!!!

      What brand kit did you use? I had a problem with doorman tensioners collapsing while pressure bleeds off while car is off. Then you get that rattle upon start up

  • @vhehn
    @vhehn 2 роки тому +1

    its not as easy as just pulling the pin. i have done a lot of these jobs on the 3.6 gm engine. maybe 20% of the time the tensioners dont lock when you pull the pin. you have to make sure the tensioner ratchets and locks into the first step of the ratchet. if you dont you will get chain rattle at cold start up because the oil bleeds off overnight and the chain gets too loose. to test take a screwdriver and pry against the shoe and put pressure on the tensioner. if it retracts all the way its not right.
