    Just a random thought on the Pirate thread.
    A pirate willalways have better deal of attacking a smaller ship.
    He cant carry all the cargo anyways and the risk is less on smaller ship.
    And better chance for high quality loot.
    Since you wont fille a gigantic ship with gold......you fill it with iron ore and earn money on the quantity.
    Small ships will carry something valuble to make better profits

    There will be NPC created mission where you don't have to buy the cargo, you will probably have to start small and build reputation first to move up to larger and larger cargo runs..and if you lose that cargo..that will cost you.

    STLYoungblood missed a HUGE text about the moularity of the Hull series.
    Basically all these Cargo Pods, that can be attached to the superstructure, are not only meant as pure cargo like fuel, goods or livestock(I cannot imagien how livestock is kept there), BUT also enable OTHER PODS, like extra shield generators, stealth systems(ACTIVE) sensor pods or even extra turrets, BUT at the cost of overall cargo space.
    Basically, its modularity might make HULL series look weak or not so tough, but in actuality they have more tricks in their pockets than one could think. If one corporation cant afford Idris then HUll E could actually make a decent if not a better command ship in deep space.

    • @KevinFelker
      @KevinFelker 9 років тому +1

      4life4win
      I agree, he mentioned the D being used by UEE, but that was just reading the given description.
      The series as a "Hull" though are able to be configured through modularity by sacrificing SCU.
      I'm thinking of getting an E, just so I can intentionally sacrifice SCU for more turrets and shields, and still ship more than a D.

    • @Vortigon
      @Vortigon 9 років тому +2

      4life4win Actually that is pure speculation - we have absolutely NO details of what or how the modularity works and what the capabilities are.

      4life4win You aren't going to see anything buy cargo on these, 100%. Anything else is inefficient. It will be stocked with cargo and escorted. If you take away cargo to fit it with guns, shields and steal, you are going to make less cash per run and make it not worth the time.

    • @schiefer1103
      @schiefer1103 7 років тому +1

      4life4win I agree with you! the hull E only needs five people, is capable of being (stated on cig websites) a lot more modular, wich will give you the ability to carry cargo, do exploration, E-Warfare, combat, maybe even be a mobile sipyard or a hospital! It is, in my eyes, also a good Idea to take a Hull C or D, tough, there is a single con: it is unknown if the hull series is capable of carrying ships. But who cares? It is so awesome!

      CIG should model if exactly the way independent truckers do it. There are apps that they use to bid on loads from point A to point B. Whoever wins the bid drives his truck cab to the pickup warehouse, hooks up to a trailer, and delivers it to the drop off warehouse. Rinse and repeat.

  • @arbra5934

    TL:DR there is no point in attacking a hullc as the cargo they have will be almost worthless since you can only carry 1% in a cutlass or 15% in a caterpillar
    So with the pirate threat lets crunch some numbers the cutlass in this new system
    can carry around 40 units now the Hull c has almost 4000 so in short it will require 100 cutlases to loot 1 Hull C, now since the hull has so many cargo units we can assume that it will be carrying some cheap material such as Iron where a ship say a connie or a freelancer would carry expensive cargo which will make it a much better target for your huge fleet of cutlass

      ***** because this is insane. Let's think a little. Imagine you now just had steal the hull-e now its time to take control of the ship and head towards to a lawless space. You first need to move this big ass ship to another direction and then you figure out that the ship is too slow and you dont have all the time to do that because the UEE is about to come to arrest you.

      arbra5934 If its unguarded and I am a pirate I can swoop in, disable the ship and pick what I want from the cargo, or just blow off some of the canisters and take what ever is in there. It's free for me to take that and sell it, no matter what it is, and I will make a profit so long as I didn't use more fuel or hard ammo than the cargo is worth. Even bulk freight has value at small levels.

    • @arbra5934

    I just realized that the fact that a Hull B can land with cargo makes it perfect for delivering a Hull D or E's cargo to planetary surfaces. Also, according to Critacorn's recent video, Hull A can carry about the same as the Freelancer, making it worth the money even less. Might be something to note.

    I had an idea for this. I always like to play the neutral roll, so not evil but not good. I was thinking if I see a cargo ship by his lonesome I will stop him and tell him that if he doesn't pay me so and so (prices depend on size in ship) I will open fire. BUT if he does AND pays me upfront, I will escort him to his destination. If he can't pay me, he can offer some cargo instead.
    Just an idea. I win either way (as long as he doesn't destroy me.)

    Baha, I just thought of a reeeeeally mean trick. Imagine a profitable merchant fleet out and about. You think "hmmm, juicy" and decide to engage. Imagine a SWARM of Hull A'sand B's all with modular missile pods, Hull C's with modular turret pods, and D's to maybe even an E decked with the highest turret pods possible with extra shield generators or landing strips with even more A's.
    Don't know how effective that would be, but fuck that would funny.

    STLYoungblood Hey man,
    I love your vids; that aside: there is a point that I want to further expand from your latest video. Although I believe that you could buy all that cargo for any of the Hulls, I believe, based on previous CIG communications, and also the flavor text on the Hull Series Sale Page, an Hull owner could just go to the TDD office and get a Elite Dangerous style delivery mission. You could get paid to take X amount of SCU of X type to X location within a certain amount of time. Keep up the good work!

    Personally, the Hull E makes sense. It's a bulk freighter, and isn't designed to buy it's own cargo. It's a contract ship that takes, say, a two way contract: Bringing food to an industrial world with poor farming, then hauling a mass shipment of, say, Auroras, off to a newb system where they'll be sold. The captain and crew aren't buying and selling anything, the two industries are and they're hiring out to a transport (or transports) capable of moving as much as possible in a single trip, which irl is far more effecient than hiring smaller but faster cargo runs that than need to make a hundred trips for every one the big guy moves.

  • @nascentederren8240
    @nascentederren8240 9 років тому

    Tali still has the sexiest silhouette.
    Hulls seem to be what you'd use to transport mass produced stuff i.e. basic shirts, own brand underwear etc.
    But it looks fragile regardless. Shoot the support structure on either end, and the frame with containers is just floating in space (especially a quick strike even with escorts if you can tug it out of battle).
    Although if it's well known that Hulls take mass produced stuff (like a million shirts), people might avoid pirating them. Until people start stuffing the inner containers with drugs and gold.

  • @TheTyrial86
    @TheTyrial86 8 років тому

    I think with the advent of a ship like this. There will be massive rewards for stealing it. I mean think about what happens in real life. Pirates come to steal the ship, and cargo. They take the vessel to a zone that will take the ship, and then change the tags so it can be sold. It would add a new aspect to this game no one has thought about. It would make it profitable to piracy and it would be profitable to be a crew that reclaims ships.

  • @Yama_1291
    @Yama_1291 9 років тому +1

    I don't know Youngblood, ships like the large Hull variants will net a nice profit hauling modest commodities in huge amounts within fairly safe civilized sectors. There won't be too many pirates interested in taking the risk of attacking a hull c/d/e filled with fertilizer under those circumstances.

  • @kevinm3751
    @kevinm3751 9 років тому +6

    I would hope that you are not going to have to buy the cargo you are carrying, especially for the larger variants. In fact that would be about as far from realistic as it gets. 99.99% of all trucking, train and ocean going cargo ships do not own the cargo they are carrying, They are contracted by companies to ship their goods, so I highly doubt that we are going to be required to purchase the goods we ship. About the only realistic scenario where that might make sense is if you are shipping a material like a mineral or a liquid that in its raw state is not as expensive as some processed or manufactured goods.

  • @wcagee101

    I believe the hulls can also store resources mined by ships like the orion. So this ship could be overwhelmingly beneficial to orgs and groups doing mining operations.

  • @kaollachan

    Hull series are huge :), for the cargo i thought freelancer had 42 SCU but then again maybe i didn't took the right starting number too.
    also about the series, they all have those retro thruster at front, so i guess they won't turn well at all ( just like a tanker need tugboat), Hull A seem to have a short range ( it is say it is mostly used as a ferry from planete to station)
    2 last point. thje cockpit will be pretty small ( a least that how it look right now) when the Spine fold in it take most of the front part of the ship. i woudl guess for a Hull C you will get the internal space for free lancer cockpit cut near the beds
    finally, that spine if a great weakness, if not cover by cargo or a enemy manage to damage it enought you may find your ship cut in half ( it will also prevent you to had stuff on the "arms" like gun and shield, if you want to land on a planete as they won't fit inside when trying to fold inside)
    still nice ship ( just found the A cockpit ugly)

    I just took the plunge and got a Hull B. As fate would have it, I got a bonus at my job, and I think it rounds out my personal fleet to start the game nicely. I went from 3 ships without LTI to through some melting to a Vanguard which does most everything I want to do nicely. For places where I wouldn't want the Vanguard the Hull B will be good for running the market and deals in safe spots. Also, a M50 because speed is almost always an asset.
    Overall, I like the Hull series a lot. The design is cool, and the way it fits into the game is cool. It has enough of a cargo advantage that you could hire an escort and still make a profit. It becomes a juicy target for pirates and a reason to hire escorts. Just the possibility that they might be fitted to refuel and rearm ships makes them a high value asset and target. The modular system suggests all kinds of cool things.

  • @ronpaul2012robust

    a good use of this would be in tandem with mining operations with mining ships that can refine what they mine, and transfer the pure ore to the hull vessel and plus what the mining ship can haul would be a very profitable operation.

    you didn't think far enough (in my opinion)... the hull series is "incredibly" modular, wich means, that you could outfit a Hull b into a battleship or an explorer, and outfit it for something different whenever you want (if you have the module). The cargo is not undefended because you have guns, shields and flare. Ohh, and hopefully you will have an escort to protect you and your cargo, wich means that you will not lose your cargo as quick as on a lonely freelancer that is not prepared for combat...

    • @schiefer1103
      @schiefer1103 8 років тому +1

      So I would, if I had to choose a trading ship for myself, choose a Hull B, because I could modify it into anything except mining... it is, as I just said, incredibly modular... I think you should think about that, but if you want to say that its "not good", say it. If you trust the information, you shouldn't say that it isn't good...

    Don't forget that the hull series could potentially have the giant spine refitted with something else, sure it might destroy the hull series' unique aspects but imagine fitting the cargo of the hull E with a giant internal hangar module, you would have a giant hangar that would rival the size of several landing pads in the hangar module.
    The hull C and above could potentially also have the spine fitted with a stationary internal cargo bay, fuel tanks, refineries or whatever the devs want in the game (GIANT TV screens for extreme propaganda)

      Eric Foster
      To be perfectly honest, I think the Taurus hits the sweet spot for all cargo jobs that don't involve moving massive amounts of fuel/minerals/ore/capital ship components.
      A Taurus can defend itself, and won't be as much of a target as a Hull series ship would be.
      Get it if you absolutely need the extra cargo space for your ORG. It'd be pointless imo, to have a Hull C for personal usage.
      4800 SCU is the equivalent of 19,200 Freight units. Over 10 times the cargo space of the Taurus.. but the C will likely be 10 times more likely target.
      From a distance the Taurus could pass for any one of the constellation ships... but there's no mistaking a hull series >B

    You know, I've seen the specs where it is just all gimballed weapons, but looking at that initial animation preview at the start of the vid, at the very least the top rear weapons in the back seem to do a 180 degree turn suggesting that it is turreted.
    I think that whoever was setting up the specs just did a bad copy&paste job, throwing everything into the gimballed section by accident.

    I kinda liked the idea of getting a Hull B at first (imo the A's cargo capacity is too low in comparsion to the 30$ difference), but I honestly wonder as to which degree those Hulls are going to be Pirate baits.
    I mean... let's just assume you're a player on the dark side with skulls and bones, most likely with either a entry level ship (Aurora/Mustang/Reliant/Avenger) or something between a Cutlass to a Caterpillar, the Hull series without fighter has nothing to do and even if you escape, they might damage your cargo.
    If you look at the Hull C atm, you have the Starfarer (Gemini) as viable alternatives, the Hull A isn't too far off the Reliant transporter (forgot the Name -.-)... just a viable alternative around the Hull B is sort-of missing IMO.
    There's Freelancer MAX and Constellation Taurus, but somehow they're too expensive if you look at a transportation-focus only, with that I don't only mean the price but also the crew. I think a scaled down Starfarer to take the place between the Hull B and C (price and loadwise) would be the way to go - for me at least.

      With the amount of income you're going to have, you can easily hire a security scort to protect you from pirates. Working under the safety of corporations or using secured routes will also be more profitable with the Hull Series. This is what this ship is about: Size and Profit in any aspect and job you take. A "must have ship" for players who want to be rich faster than anybody else.

  • @Wilkesy7
    @Wilkesy7 9 років тому

    I'm really worried about the immediate power that the richer players are going to be able to have on Day1 release of SC. Being able to carry so much cargo so early on could really catapult the larger organisations to a point that no other players will be able to catch up for a very long time. I understand your point that it would be difficult to even buy enough cargo to fill the D or E but if a large organisation pooled their money early on I bet it would be very doable. And being so early in the game, i doubt there would be much threat of attack as the vast majorty of players will still be going around in their starter vehicles.
    I think a much better and 'healthier' (for the game) way of doing things would have been to have the Hull A & B, perhaps C, to be purchasable for real money, and let the D & E be something players strive for in the game. What is the problem with having ships that cannot be bought for real money? I think that only adds to the gameplay. This is not only exclusive to the Hull series. I honestly think that too many powerful ships are purchaseable and playable on day 1, such as the Idris.
    But hey, thats my opinion. I would love to hear some others thoughts and/or counterarguments if there are any.

    My idea is to get a bigger ship and fill it with something not that valuable and use it as a decoy with only 1 fighter escorting it and half 2 or 3 small ships filled with really valuable goods with a load of fighters protecting them
    This would be to stop the chance of a pirate flank

    The Hull E will be a truly rare site. Even if someone can afford one and pay for it's upkeep there is the strong need for a large escort. Fortunately I belong to a large guild with three members who not only own one but guys like me can see revenue in escorting such a vessel. It's planned on a one week schedule and funded group shareholder style. Escorts will be payed a percentage based on thier cargo buy in and value of escorting ship service. Almost like how Starcitizen is funded.

    The Hull A isn't worth getting unless you're planning to CCU. You'd be better off with a Taurus(can at least defend itself with slightly less cargo) than a Hull B as in most situations nothing below a C will be used regularly in corporation asset transfers/trades.
    Hull C and up is where the series starts to look interesting. TBH the Hull A should of been at about 2000 FU or 500 SCU. It's a bit of a rip off as is when you factor in that it basically cannot defend itself at all.

  • @TheSponge467
    @TheSponge467 9 років тому

    What I'm interested to know is how much of INGAME cash would ships cost. If someone just buys and E and fulls it up with cargo and sells all 153,000+ of cargo units they can buy a ship like the Aegis Retaliator or something. It would seem pretty gamebreaking, even though the Hull e, or D costs alot, and making it to the cargo selling point would be PRETTY tough. Just imagine how incredibly high ship costs ingame would have to be just because of these new line of ships. Or everyone who can afford a c and up can just practically own most of the good ships in the game

    • @TheSponge467
      @TheSponge467 9 років тому

      I guess thats not so bad, 60 hours of time for a $200 ship. If you play 8 hours a day, you could get the ship in a week and 2 days

    • @TheSponge467
      @TheSponge467 9 років тому

      You also have to take into consideration that players can also hijack these ships and since its only 5 crew, that would be relatively easy for a band of 5 well armed pirates. And it would be pretty hard for an escort to see 5 players boarding such a massive ship in the middle of a firefight unless they use explosive and blow open the hull, which would damage the ship

    I think starting at 4000 cargo units, pirating will become more civilized, as pirates don't have that capacity to take. Unless they have a hull of their own. So if hull pilots don't want to be killed they will give their most valuable cargo and a credit amount then go on. Though on the flip side pirates better check the cargo crates, lest they realize too late that they just loaded a decoy remote bomb.

    Just for perspective the Hull-E is larger than a Destroyer.. making it the largest ship... most largest cluster of Engines...
    with its lack of shield details, and minimal weapons (Hard points per square meter), its really a big target....
    hope those engines make it fast... because your not going to be able to fight your way out of trouble

      Thomas R compare the size of the anvil javelin to the largest misc hull, and you will note that its smaller.. so yes i am aware of carriers.. its just this freighter will be larger, so it would need a heavy escort if it doesn't have enough weapon blisters

    • @4life4win
      @4life4win 9 років тому

      Thomas R Why? Because its too ambitious? Too complex with its gameplay mechanics? Promised gameplay falls falt in Beta?

    • @4life4win
      @4life4win 9 років тому

      M. Woller I agree about the risk of counting too much on their developement promises and the promises on thier final products.
      BUT gameplay, that is 20 years old??? If you mean like system to system travel and space combat, then yea... BASICS are all the same in every space game. Space Stragety games being totally different. But if you mean ships destructability and more realistic approach to ship custamization and trade system, then you are wrong.

      Well, if you think about it, argo is probably for smaller variant, not for D and E. You'd need tons of argos to transport all of those, if you can even fit one. So something similar could be ... well there isn't. for D and E you will need something special that I think they're not ready to reveal the concept, if I were to give my opinion. Even Freelancer MAX wouldn't be enough. I don't know from current line up of ships that we can pick to have those massive amount of cargos transported.
      Honestly though, cargos - I think - should be loaded and unloaded by the game automatically without transport ship/vehicles. It's just way too much and we know from the most recent ATV that they are thinking of doing that, if you watch the Starfarer cargo portion.
