As long as Samsung keeps giving $1,000 trade-in for the previous Fold, I'm probably going to keep upgrading even if the changes are kind of minor. The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic bundle deal was the icing on the cake. I missed having that rotating bezel.

I'm absolutely drooling over how gorgeous the Watch6 is. So tempted.
Man, I've always thought that I'd get the big Galaxy Fold when I got a folding phone, but after testing a Z Flip at my job (refurbishment center), I fell in love with the vertical flip form factor. It feels like the modern version of the basic flip phones from back in the day and they've really refined the folding mechanism. The hinge is so high quality it's kind of sexy.

Real talk, all these reviewers throwing shame since the Z Fold 5 isn't much of an upgrade to the Fold 4.. I'm moving from an S22 Ultra to the Fold 5, so that argument doesn't apply to everyone.

I'm a defender of the narrow cover display on the Fold simply because I love how easy it makes it to use the phone one-handed while I'm on the go. I just use swype when sending messages or commenting.

S23 is perfectly usable one-handed. If fold had the s23 height&width and 19.5:9 aspect ratio for outer screen, it'd be perfect.

I was about to drag Samsung for this year's upgrades but man, their trade-in values are great right now. I'm trading my z flip 4 in for $900 toward a z flip 5 512gb for $999 with the free storage upgrade. Also, with the $50 store credit I was able to get a pair of galaxy buds 2 pro for free. I upgraded phones and got a pair of noise canceling ear buds for $107 after tax. This is the best trade in process I've ever experienced. Thanks for keeping it real Floss.

I remember when the first Fold came out and they gave you the phone, cable, 25 watt fast charge block, a case, and $100 samsung bluetooth buds for $2000. I rather spend $2000 and get all that vs $1800 and get a cable.....and thats it!

Would love to have the no gap design and updated cpu but gotta rock the fold 4 at least another year. Good thing is when I do upgrade it, it’ll be something even better than the 5.
I want to get a fold really bad. But im trying my best to wait until they put the s pen in the phone and make the screen bigger. The fold 6 would be so popular if they did that.

I love my fold 2 . A lot of people like my phone. The only thing I hate is the scratches in the middle but still working flawlessly. Fold phone is the best smartphone I've ever used.
i still have my 3 year old fold 2 its got those hairline scratches in the middle but still usable. i just got the oppo fold n2 and its incredible size is perfect and the crease isnt noticeable the Chinese phones are streets ahead. im hoping for honor V2 to be worldwide.
Can you explain the scratches in the middle? This is the first fold device I'm thinking about getting I have a s22u rn
@@got2best can't really explain why they happen. 200k time they say it can be opened and closed id doubt I was half that. It's small half inch hairline cracks on the crease. Having said all that I love foldables can't go back to conventional

@@got2best I've removed the screen protector recently after seeing the cracks, they're on the screen don't effect viewing.
I pre ordered the z flip 5 today, and I'm hyped. Coming from the flip 3. And I only paid 330 for it after trade-in. Insane value from samsung with trade in.
Damn i'm jealous of the deals that only the US benefit of. In Europe Samsung trade in offers you up to only 120$ for trading an old phone lol imagine someone giving a 2-3 year old or newer flagship phone to get that small amount of money

@@itsAJ819 For me its the screen protectors that seem to fail after about 6 months, $50AUD every 6 months for a screen protector adds up after a while.
I had fold 3 for 6 months & back to ultra. Front screen waaaaay too narrow. Ultras more durable & better cameras too. Hope better next yr.
@jaker8107 I kept the fold 4 because I need the extra space the inner screen offers for work but I agree, the outer screen is infuriating. I have so many typos on the outside when trying to type that I often just open it and send the text with the inner screen lol. The outer is next to useless until they expand it like all the Chinese foldables have been doing for years
I was wondering does the S pen 🖊️ work on the outer screen yet.. I’m still rocking the 3. I’m going to hold off until the s pen is imbedded

I don’t expect the crease to go away with this kind of foldable phones. Maybe if we got a screen who roll in and out ; but it’s just physically impossible to expect something that fold completely and stay more in this position for years than open , to have no crease.
I think Samsung want people to just use the inner display more often than the outside display which is more like a display to use for something quick than using it like we use the screen of a regular phone .

With how similar it is to the fold 4, I'm kinda happy it didn't make a crazy leap and make the Pixel fold look bad lol however the build quality did slightly improve. Rockin' with the Pixel fold for a bit.
The ZFlip is a real upgrade worth a trade in from the 4.

I honestly enjoy FlossyCarter's vids. Especially today's, the explanation behind the reason of the annual release of cellphones, or products in general. His explaining between the difference of an upgrade & updates of cellphones to the masses was so on point. Especially, if a company feels there's no need to do a drastic overhaul on a product, when they can simply make money on dragging it out with a few quality of life changes to win over customers. Apple has been making stacks for decades on that very concept, and I don't hear many people complain too much about it. For those who love sports games they would probably understand this comparison, I treat cellphones similar to buying Madden or 2k games. Every other year is more of a roster update and nothing noticeably different from its predecessor.

Like your breakdown. Could you touch on upgrading from older gen phones. Everyone says from the fold4 to 5. However, as you said. We don't switch every year anymore due to discounts applying over 2 or 3 years now. So I'm curious: Is it a huge leap from my fold 2 to fold 5?

5: I absolutely love the outer display. To me its to do quick tasks and one handed activities on the go. Enjoy the inner display when you wanna sit down and chill. I would hate a regular candy bar outer screen as a foldable as main phone as it takes away from one handed use.
Until u pick up the huawei mate x3. I have the z fold 3. And the huawei mate x3 is so thin that it feels way more comfortable than the fold. They are proof u can have a full front screen especially if u get the device that thin. The huawei folded up is almost as thick as samsung completlely open.

No. You need a Fold 5 Ultra that has a single screen as large as the s23 ultra. And it needs 1Tb and built in pen. And bigger battery.

I want to get a Z Fold at some point.
But, I'd really like to see the Z Fold be as wide as a normal phone when closed, so the external display is like a normal phone size.
I also want it to have the S-Pen inside like a Note/S__ Ultra phone would have.
So we could have a full size phone and tablet with the S-Pen in there as well.
I also would like Samsung to come out with a watch that is square/rectangular like the Apple watch.
I normally like a watch to be round. But since this is not JUST a watch, I want it to be like an Apple watch shape, which I love.
Look, you can still display a round watch face on a square.

Thank you for showing the Always-On-Display on the cover screen of Z Flip 5!! Because yesterday, none of the reviewers stressed this important detail. They all showed the fully dark screen unless they tapped on it. So I started thinking maybe Samsung decided to remove the AOD option on the bigger outer screen this year to save the battery. Glad to know AOD is still there! Especially compared to Motorola's absence of such an option for the cover display.

@FlossyCarter I also wonder if it's possible to use the outer screen with Z Flip 5 being put on the table in the "mountain" ⛰️ position (not when it lays down flat). It would be cool to watch videos, for example, with the phone standing up like that, or the outer display goes dark as soon as you slightly open it? Please demonstrate in the next video of the full review. 🙏🏻
Appreciate your reasoning about annual phone releases and opinion on "update" vs. "upgrade." I use the Note 20 Ultra and have been holding off on the Z Fold's for an integrated S Pen. Though I'm considering the 5 this time. I use the S Pen frequently and am just not sure if I should wait of not. Thanks for all your reviews and honest opinions!
If you’ve waited this long, wait til the 6. With actual competition now, it’s the most likely that Samsung will actually make meaningful changes next year. The only thing that changed on the fold5 is the gapless hinge and new chip!
@@extra4542 Thanks for the suggestion and will do. I have fallen into the habit in the past of buying during the "update" years and not meaningful upgrade years. I plan to wait to purchase what will be the most useable device. I really like the integrated S Pen on my Note right now.

SO excited for my Flip 5 to come in! I got the Razr+ thinking it would beat Samsung this year but once I saw the flip 5 in person I immediately knew the flip 5 was better! Gonna return my Razr and get the flip 5, watch 6 classic for me and 1 for my wife AND pocket a couple hundred bucks! I see this as an absolute win! I also saw the Fold 5 and fell in love with the icy blue cover but idk if I can justify spending 1k upgrading my fold 3 to the 5. Hmmm
A HUGE letdown for the Fold5 mate. If I was anyone out there I'd go for the vivo all day long. Ps I've ordered the flip 5 to replace my ladies flip 3 she loves the upgrade on the outer display. Cheers FC

For Facebook and other apps that have the bars, just rotate it to be in portrait orientation like the rest of the phones. It'll fill out the screen that way.
I really don't understand why almost nobody does that, but i have 3, maybe, answers to this.
1. The majority of people like to complain about almost everything.
2. The majority of people are much more dumb than I think.
3. The reviewers do the presentation for views, and they don't have any idea of what devices they hold in their hands.
In either cases, it's so annoying because they always complain of things that is really useful but they need to be with the wave to be relevant ( I hate when they complain about samsung narrower screen because it's really useful with one hand, and because of them, Samsung may take this into consideration and it may change it )
You shouldn't have to rotate a $1800 phone on certain apps because of black bars. It should work in both orientations like all other folds out there.

I upgrade alot..every note since note 2 (including a note 7 FE from Korea) and every Galaxy S device since the S3 plus a fold 3 and 4. So im definitely a big sammy fan but even im struggling getting a Fold 5...they basically put a new chip and hinge in the fold 4 and called it a day. Should be a Fold 4 S lol...

For the Flip 5 - did they change the position of the power button at all?
I ask because I'm so used to the fingerprint reader being about halfway up the phone on my Fold. Trying the Flip in stores, it seemed unnaturally higher and I always wonder if I could adjust to that akward position. Also a big reason I'm hesitant to get an S23 or any non-foldable from Samsung - the fingerprint reader on the power button is perfection and I use it for everything.
I own the galaxy z flip 4 (pre-ordered the flip 5) but I can definitely say you get used to it. What I personally do is I use the middle finger of my left hand to open the phone and don't use my thumbs since if I do it takes a couple of extra seconds to place the thumb in position. And if its with my right then and only then i do it with the thumb. But personally I think it isn't a big problem

Been using S21U since released, I've been looking forward to S24 Ultra but kinda worried about exynos model coming to Asian countries.
Generally Snapdragon is the superior ones.
Z Fold 5 looks like a solid option too, will have an hands on experience this weekend.

I am using the fold 3 since launch and works perfectly and see no reason to upgrade to fold 5... Moved from a note 10+.... As for you it will be a good upgrade since u have not experience one... If you like the old blackberry passport u will like the fold 5

I just picked up a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic for like 100$ new at my local walmart, man its the best!!! I love the bezel.
Floss’s reviews are always top notch but the Z Fold 5 is just more of the same. I have a Fold 3. I’ll wait for the Fold 6 (if there is one). The Z Flip 5 is a real upgrade from the Flip 4.
Fold 4 guy here, waiting for the 6 too. Really hoping for bigger batteries in the 6, I just am not getting all-day coverage once I start working.
I'm also still on the Fold 3. Was hoping for a big upgrade on the Fold 5. When they make the front screen the ratio of a regular phone, that's when I'll jump.

I get how hard it probably is to get better than last year's model but they were so bad at the trade-in and the ordering process. The flat s pen with the new case is so awesome I was seriously considering spending the $800 (plus tax) plus the case and s pen but can you believe they don't have any matching colors of the cases to the new colors of the 5! And finding the cases when trying to add everything to the cart was horrendous. The truth is the 5 is an amazing device but they just turned me off to wanna pull the trigger. I was literally gonna spend $1000 but they are giving so little to make someone with the z fold 4 wanna upgrade. SMH. Samsung could have done so much better.
Just wait for the 6. With any luck we'll get a bigger battery and possibly S Pen integration (one that works on both screens)

Definitely liking the Flip 5. Loving the progress they've made. Would love to own a flip phone again but hard to leave the Galaxy 23 Ultra.
Also, a physical rotating bezel is nice, but for me with the 5 pro wouldn't upgrade as my fingers are pretty small and find the on screen rotating bezel just fine. Plus prefer the titanium material for the frame instead of the aluminium.
