Too right. I have a mi 11 ultra and my mother has the 23 ultra. Difference is night and day, the Samsung feels cheap! Camera is miles better on the mi 11 ultra as reviewers seem to lie a lot! Chinese phones are miles superior now

I'm watching for a second time on my Fold 5. Have owned both the Flip and Fold for multiple generations, but must admit that the Chinese foldables have the form factor. Floss correctly mentions the outer screen advantages of the Xiaomi, but, for me, the advantages really come on the main display. 8" versus 7.6". More screen, better experience.

Held that bad boy the other day in the store. That thing is a beast. Pixel fold too. Like the feel of the fold better. Pixel feels like opening and closing a book
Picked up the flip for $500. If there is a good trade in and I decide I prefer that form factor, might jump to fold next upgrade.

Flossy man Thanks for this review!! I was feeling the Vivo Fold but I'm now leaning towards the Xiaomi Fold 3. The only downside is there is no reverse wireless charge with the Xiaomi but since they've added wireless charge I might make an exception. Confirm biometrics on my Find X6 Pro works flawlessly no more struggles like I had with Samsung for so many years. If I ever go foldable it will be Xiaomi, Oppo or Vivo. Loving the Find X6 Pro. Worth every penny.
Hey Carter your clear assessment on the foldable design outer dimensions reflect my perspective on them too. You're also correct about the Google pixel shorter outer display which will definitely entice certain people who will desire the shorter dimension. And again Carter you made a valid analogy of seeing these foldable phones twenty years ago who'll be flabbergasted upon first sight. Now the telephoto zooming seem to be taking off on the right direction as we can see on the Xiaomi Mix fold 3. The wireless charging speed is remarkable and idealistic for everyday use. 😎💯💪🏾✊🏾

Honestly I prefer the Chinese foldables, design wise! Like you said breda, imagine one UI on this foldable, with the charger, case etc in the box. It would really change the game.
Respect as always breda, I love xiaomi devices a lot. My favorite xiaomi device is the mi mix 2 which I still use to this day as a back up device. Dun kno. 🖖.

Just can't understand why they can't make a Folding phone while closed same length and width as a S23 ultra dimensions plenty of room for an S pen storage and bigger size battery along with a headphone jack . It would sell like hot cakes easily . They need to give consumers what they want & need .

Floss is 100% correct about the creaseage. That was one of my main concerns buying a foldable and I really have to look for it and even then on videos, Twitter etc I can't find it unless I put it at an angle. I'm not looking at my phone sideways. This phone looks sick btw

Honestly Floss this is my favorite foldable that I've seen hardware wise. I also prefer One UI but I'm slightly familiar with the old Xiaomi MiMix OS's back when the HTC One X and HTC One M7 were out. (I always wanted an M9). Since you're so thorough in your reviews I am also pretty well versed in modern Xiaomi OS's. So I agree it seems nicer than the childlike, flashier OS's.
Also a big shout out for reviewing all the relevant Chinese foldables. Pings peeps are willing to mess with sizes more rapidly. I mean I'm pretty sure I took a class in college called rapid prototyping. It's more ballsy and I like it. It's more of a space race approach and they may win. If Samsung doesn't hurry up and release that better form factor how are S23 Ultra Owner's and in general Samsung Knight's at all going to justify such a wildly narrow phone. It has a width folded 1mm smaller than the Asus Zenfone 10 and 11mm narrower then the S23 Ultra. Meanwhile the height is 8mm taller than the Zenfone 10. Almost the same amount it is missing from the proportions of the width between the Ultra and Fold 5. Now I agree some people like narrow phones (Sony fans). But I have small hands and I still have an Ultra and had a Note 20 Ultra which was slightly bigger. I've been getting larger phones because I consume more and more content on my phone. So if Floss didn't talk about the Xi Jinching Specials who would?
If this phone had stylus support, an Ingress rating, and One UI it would be the best foldable all around.

This is the first foldable I've seen that's actually a phone with a secondary bigger screen instead of a big screen with a secondary phone. Still happy with my fold5 but the future of foldables is looking bright
Fold5 users will have massive regret knowing that they could have waited a few weeks for the superior OnePlus, and the abysmal face unlock, plus the nagging outdated cameras will be an eyesore sore. Return before too late.

They wouldn't have though. I had the Poco x3 and x3 pro that phone is only 2 years old😂 Samsung supports their phones for 4-5 years

Also just picked up the fold five. My first foldable. I was waiting for the right generation. I love it and I love the aspect ratio inside and out. The outer display is great to walk around with and use in one handed operation and the interdisplay is great to use when sittin and blazin😶🌫️
Regarding the Android skin, I generally want my Android flavour to be uncluttered and consistent, so MI UI isn't that good for me. My favourite is Sony's skin, or at least the one they had a few years ago. Google and Motorola are probably in the top 3, and Samsung 4th. So it's pretty different from your list, Floss, but thank you because you're thorough enough to help everyone make their own decisions when you showcase all these phones.
I genuinely want to know what people like you do really like about those "clean OS " please. Do you really prefer to have less options ? And you can just disable or hide or leave alone what you don't want in "heavy" UI like ONE UI or MI UI.
So please I'm really curious what is it about those simple OS?
@@hpit11 I never said that I don't like options. I just want them to be uncluttered. That means, I want my app features and settings in sensible places. Consistency is an aesthetic thing, as I dislike having different design philosophies for the default Samsung phone app and Google SMS app on a Samsung phone, for example.
Samsung and Xiaomi have a lot of settings (never used Oppo) but they're often needlessly separated into different overlapping categories. Sometimes I struggle to find my way around such a device when I wish to do one specific thing. It is actually because I prefer options that Sony's skin is above Google's, because otherwise Google is the best at not giving you options, lol. I love my heavy UIs, but the big ones generally struggle to remain coherent in my eyes, which ultimately becomes a detriment.
I think people who want option-less phones are those who don't play around with settings and just want it to work. More gestures and options means more chances of messing things up. Whether they are old people who struggle to operate a smartphone or busy workers who don't want surprises to occur while using their phones, "clean OSes" have their place. In the end, each person should choose what fits them.

WoW! What a stark difference in the unboxing, my Galaxy z fold5 unboxing took me 10 seconds, Xiaomi would be 1hr. When you see them side by side the way Floss does it, I can't help but feel like we've ALL been Screwed over!

Flex mode looks better on "wider" screens. This is most noticable on a surface duo/duo2 ..The google Pixel only need to go a bit taller. Once you go fat, you don't go back. These folds are great but still a bit narrow and excess tall for one handed use. Your personal tastes will vary, but none are better in flex mode than old surface duo models. Hoping the "1+" will give a better form factor than these units, but this mix3 is looking great regardless.
I agree with you. If I pay close to $2,000 for a phone they could throw in a cheap case. I had the fold 3 and I ended up getting the 23 Ultra. Two of my pain points with the fold was the width of the outer screen and no silo for s pen. If they ever fix those 2 things I will get the fold. It seems like the Chinese companies do better with the outer display ratios. Only thing is they don't offer stylus support. The Xiaomi look great!
Damn... the PRESENTATION is the truth. Samsung, PAY ATTENTION!!! The dimensions are what im looking for in a foldable. I stuck with the Z Fold 3 because the 4 and 5 were too similar. Im gonna wait on the real review for this and hopefully make an upgrade soon. Thanks Floss.

there could be just 1 problem: notifications. Didn't ever arrived on time on xiaomi chinese versions, as Mix 2, cause of chinese software.
But on Oppo and Vivo messages always arrives.

I am a Xiaomi user from last 6 years but switching to samsung bcoz I realise now how much important software is with good hardware Xiaomi definitely has good phones with design and hardware with low price but they lack a lot behind with software and user experience compared to samsung, pixel and iphones and that really makes a lot of difference here for a long term user

I have to say, I think everyone is underestimating, Samsung Z fold five. I get it it’s narrow however, when there was the first launch of the smart phones we used to have small screen sizes which was narrow but they felt perfect in our hands and it is just a nice feeling to have a phone where I don’t have to do use two hands to type on the first display, I can easily type with one hand and use the swipe gesture on keyboard to type a full sentence without having to reach for the other Button using one hand.
