Now that’s a tent test!! Fair play to you, enduring that weather over two day and showing us the result. Thanks again Alister. Keep safe and keep the vids coming!!!! 👏
I have owned and run my Tarra and Staika in conditions like this. 1. You should most definitely have double poled the tarra in these conditions. 2. This is 100% a manufacturing error and should be sent back to Hilleberg as soon as possible.
This is the second video i have watched of a Tarra leaking in bad weather.I`m really surprised and disappointed at this because these tents are regarded as first class and are priced accordingly. Great wee video. ATB
My Tarra does not leak at all. Condensation yes. I always have the top vent on the lea side of the prevailing wind and rain. I have used it in gusting 70 mph SW and torrential rain where the water was flowing through the tent and the inner nest was dry. I love my Tarra. I hope you can get this resolved. It is by far the best tent out there.
Definitely not supposed to do that. I’ve got a Nammatj 3GT and would be going straight back to Hilleberg in the first instance if that happened not Seam sealing it myself. Be interested to hear about if/how resolved.
This is an extreme weather condition. unless you are Camping in Wales you could probably do fine with a Hilleberg tent. I have a Tarra too. its a little warm for summer but there is very few other tents I would have otherwise.
For starters I would buy a $7 tube of clear pure silicone (I think I used GE to patch a silnylon tent with great success) and seal all of the seams on the underside of the outer tent. This would likely eliminate some of the problem. A cheap and easy fix that will do no harm.
I think it is very bad for a tent that costs € 1430, -. I was actually planning to buy this tent. I especially love the spacious tent and 2 large vestibules from the tarra and super strong in heavy storms. The ventilation in this tent is certainly not optimal, only the one ventilation under the roof. Glad I saw this video, don't think I'm going to buy this tent, look a little further.
I have a Tarra I used in simular weather alot with no problem what so ever. Hilleberg has at great support so contact them and show them this video. They will for sure give you a new one and pay for the delivery. They will most cartain be interested in examin your tent so they can see whats wrong with it.
Respect for putting up with so much generous English, nay Yorkshire "weather" . I have used a Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 for the last 20 years and every year I dollop the tent water proofer on the outer in the spring and use a cheap pound shop tarpaulin on the floor and its good to go. Cairngorm's, Snowdonia, Yorkshire... bring it on!. Hilleberg are fantastic brand new but do not seem to offer longevity. In the end it depends what you want.
Thank you for showing us the footage Alistair, you surpass black label haha. Do you think a pyramid tent would survive this beat up in a same situation? Planning to buy a locus gear khafra sil.
... the "best tent" .... hm... let me think... the BEST tent happens to be Hilleberg's flagship-tent, the KERON 4GT I must say... by all means, even though a bit heavier
For some reason you have likely got a factory 2nd grade (B grade) product there. If you paid full price for it then even worse. It should not have holes or be leaking whatsoever regardless of the wind or volume of rain. It should be 100% waterproof in any weather no exception no excuses. You need to complain to Hilleberg persistently.
I have 3 Hillebergs, this is the only one that leaks at the seams. I have seam sealed it now but not had any rain yet. They're manufacturing process means they shouldn't need to be seam sealed but if it solves the problem I'm ok with it. It just a bit of a downer when you pay so much.
There is definitely something wrong here. You should immediately contact hilleberg. They will help you no problem. You should not need to seam seal anything. Hilleberg use a sewing method that makes it unnecessary to seam seal.
I think the vestibules are badly designed. Strong winds would literally flatten the ends of the tent. The rest of the construction looks really solid. I can't understand why Hilleberg aren't addressing their leaking range of tents. Not good enough for that price.
U seem to be on a bad streak with Hilleberg tents. First the Nallo now this. As you seem to enjoy the outdoors in extreme conditions, have you had other brands before, and what is your experience with those, if so?
I own a Beghaus 3.1 pro, Nallo GT, Nammajt GT and Tarra. I've been in 8 storms, one in the 3.1 pro and 7 in the Hillebergs in the last 7 months. The 3.1 pro is obsolete now, it's a good little tent for the £70 I paid but not storm worthy. That's when I started to consider spending proper money on tents.
I bought a Hilliberg and when I put it up I noticed light coming through the stitching holes in the bathtub corners so I poured some water in and it leaked stright through. All 4 corners were the same so I contacted Hilliberg and like you they said use some seam sealer - WTF the tent cost £800 and needs the bathtub floor sealing. I took it back to the shop and we looked at several other Hillibergs and they were all the same ie leaked so I got my money back. Your video does not surprise me TBH
@@huntingsolutions6005 The looser of an argument always resorts to insults just as you have here. I owned a Hilliberg for a total of two days before returning it ecause it leaked. Whats you experience other than playing with plastic toys ?
It’s hard to say if this is a problem or if it’s just how it is. I mean, you buy a tent that is super lightweight and cost about 1.200£. For that money you get a pretty good tent to be honest. How much can you blame the tent for not keeping you 100% dry in that extreme weather? I’m pretty sure that you would survive in the inner tent for at least two days in that extreme weather. And that’s what really matters in this kind of situations. You will still survive.
Buddy, you can survive in an emergency shelter.. or a 30 dollar walmart tent with some extra paracord and mylar blanket... or a trash bag duct taped around a sleeping bag...
I don't care who makes the tent, and if it is the best in the world (Hilleberg), spray your tent with two liberal coats of silicone spray, drying fully between each, before such a trip, and you'll be bone dry. I learned that the hard way.
Er - the whole point of the Hilleberg Black Label range is that they are expedition shelters built to cope with the worst weather the planet can impose. When you are in remote and exposed areas, there may be no way to avoid apocalyptic conditions. You pay a premium for a Hille because you trust it to keep you safe.

You should definitely contact Hilleberg. That is not normal.
Outstanding video-subscribed
Proves best still vulnerable yet strong shelter
Please give an update, as I was about to purchase one of these? Extremely disappointing for a supposed 4 season tent.

Woaw, that looks like production errors. Did you contact Hilleberg and if so, what were their response?
So what did hilleberg do about your tarra. I has one for over a year and lived in it for 1 year every day with no problems. What did hilleberg do?

Great video.is there anyway to modify the tent so as it wont let rain in at them certain points??
I have seam sealed all the seams and there is no leaks anymore. Not sure how I will block the holes in the vent zips.

I wild camped in this tent for 3 months in the north of England and Scotland 2021.

I couldn't say. I've never tried or researched a pyramid tent.
I don’t see footage of inside the inner tent
Sorry about that. Battery run out during filming before it happened. I wish I had photos or film to show to Hilleberg.
