- A great matchup between two hall of fame tennis players. Close match came down to two set tie-breakers, showing what a mental game tennis can be.
Rosgado: All-American Univ of Miami '74 and '75, # 183 ATP ranking 1976! Brazilian national champion.
Shepherd: Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame
Note: If you like to skip ahead to 1:07:06 and see where shepherd is up one set and serving at 4-1 in the second set. Then the wheels come off.
1st tiebreaker at 1:33:00
If you'd like to film your own match with state-of-the-art statistics, go over to SwingVision with this link: swing.tennis/r... (yes, I own stock in the company). :)
I really enjoyed watching this match! Great job on both sides.
Thanks so much for recording this match! These two styles and the two players are really fun to watch. Also SwingVision is great part of the match has to do with what they do between points how they move how they spend their time and I found that to be interesting also.
Hello Jaquiem hope you are well great win buddy from Dave Mahady your floor at U of M God bless Watched you 50 years ago in person now through internet watching your tennis expertise again😊😊I still move pretty good too😊
2 hours and 45 minutes. Good God!
LEAF BLOWING DURING A FINAL?
Yeah, it's ridiculous. I think this is the match where I actually did go over and ask the guy to go blow somewhere else.
The leaf blowing guy didn’t seem to make any progress either. It’s like he was just behind the court the entire time. Or, maybe it was one of those new gas powered ball machines.
Super Spiel
Da waren richtig gut Schläge dabei
Enjoyed the video, great job!
Thank you!
Roscado! My fellow UM alumni!
Hi Mike, hope you can do some video of this month’s Level 1 tournament in New Orleans? Both 60 and 65! Vines and a slew of other top guys will be there!
Ah, I won't make this one. :( But if you want to send me some video, I'll be glad to edit and post.
I had to withdraw due to family and work stuff! Al Cannon was scheduled to be my doubles partner ! I made the finals in August at the Midwest Clay Court Championship for over 60! Made the consolation singles finals too! I definitely think we would have placed top 5-6 next week as I had Sciatica for four months until a few weeks ago! Basically playing on one leg! I appreciate all your videos!
@@robertmoylan9950 Thanks for the good word. It would be great to play with Al Cannon! Hope you can keep that leg fixed up!
great video Unique serve by Rosgado Forehand unique as well. Great point final set tiebreak
Thanks!
Very good serve pose! Enjoyed watching. Thanks.
Thank you kindly! Glad you enjoyed it. I still like to watch it myself. They are both great players. I hope to get a lot more video up during the 2024 season, starting in Naple, FL
Good match. Looks like nice courts to play on. Is that har tru?
It's similar but I'm not sure if it's the same har-tru that we have in Colorado. Maybe someone else knows?
@@10smikeyes that’s har tru
Great match! Really enjoyed watching!
Glad you enjoyed!
Did not expect that outcome
Yes, I'll bet a lot of people were surprised, even one of the players. :)
"Topspin? We don't need no stinking topspin."
keep in mind that these guys are playing on fumes and haven't recovered from the prior matches
foot fault by grey shirt... when he steps out wide and his back foot goes past the tram line.. .. minor.. but this is a final.
Congratulations Mike, I would like to know, what equipment did you use to film the match?
I used a MUVI camera, but any GoPro-like camera will do. For my own matches, I'm starting to use my iPhone now, which actually works great and meshes great with SwingVision (visit at swing.tennis/r/mytennistools30)
@@10smike Thanks.
Didn't Rosgado make some bad calls? Also, is it that cold in FL that he plays in the long sweat pants and in the long sleeve top or is it his trademark, regardless of the weather?
So, I had watched the match in person and then re-ran the video on any close calls while editing (sometimes many times at different speeds), I didn't see any bad calls. Maybe you could point one out?? Also, the occasional cold front does come through and it can get somewhat nippy. No snow though! :)
Did Rosgado😊 say, "I Think it's out" while taking the point??
Can you give a time? I'd like to see that...
How many times does this sort of match repeat itself? You play what you think is a good game, hitting winners almost at will, then still find yourself on the losing end because your opponent, who was basically trying to keep the ball in play, didn't make any mistakes.
Gotta love it.....
They're called retrievers.
Mike, do you know what the FPS was for this video? Thanks.
I always film in 60 fps.
@@10smike Thanks, the speed I got for Scott’s serve was a bit higher than I expected so I wanted to be sure. (I had one serve in the tiebreaker at 101 mph.)
No matter when these matches are..there is always annoying landscape blowers or trimmers going…
i know.. i swear they get no respect for these people.. especially on this court..
tennis finals going on, its raining and some chode really wants to fire up the leaf blower right next to the court?
Yeah, you would think they would know better. I said something to him and he stopped for awhile.
Great match. Big fan of Rosgado. Do you by any chance have any recent footage of Wendell Pierce?
Oh yeah, I'm also a big Rosgado fan. So controlled and surgical with his shots. But sorry, no recent footage of Wendell Pierce.
Is this video in slow motion?
Yes, I slowed it down to half speed so people with older eyes could follow the action.
It is still way too fast for me.@@10smike
who's calling fouls?
I'm assuming you mean who's calling balls in or out? The players are. See notes under video for how to have them called electronically.
They move like they are 75?
Gilbert, your comment reduces your credibility level to 1.5
Shepherd has a good serve, (footfaults a little), has a better backhand, has a better forehand, but he makes mental mistakes. Rasgado hits a serve that is in, but not much more has a terrible forehand, but a good slice backhand. Hard guy to beat when you let him play his game. He just gets them back.
no topspin on the back hand High bouncing balls would give these players problems ,, Read Vic Braden hit down the middle
That's a good strategy if you get a chance to implement it. I used to hear players talk about beating Larry Turville that way. Then on the court they are too busy chasing down balls to use that strategy.
@@10smike the underspin gives a player a nice knee high ball to hit through... Top spin creates a shoulder high ball...My youtube talks about spin and Vic Braden books
I think this guy should play pickle ball
Which one? Rasgado or Shepherd? I think they'd both be good, but I'd put my money on Shepherd in a Pickleball match.
I am 75 my footwork way better
Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty. When my Meniscus knee Tear has hopefully healed, pay my Airfare man & ld be prepared to take either of them on. Truthfully l'd back myself to do well against either of these World renowned players ? And that is NO Bullshit. Bring it on.
I like your confidence. How about you pay your own way, and I'll reimburse you if you win?
Fairplay Mike, Fairplay.
I may need Knee Surgery in March in Chesterfield. I am not the man l was, unfortunately my Tennis since April's severe injury has limited me to barely three small hits on Court & that Sir is a masterpiece in itself to have managed this feat. Your offer is fair & rounded, only time will tell if l can take it up & come back. Otherwise you have to relie on my conjecture & my word. This fillet you give me will drive me onward & upward. This Lefthander shall return Dead or Alive, one way or another. Thank you for your kind offer & reply to me Mike. It means alot man.
Sincerely, Mark Anthony 🙏 🟡
If hes supposed to be the Best in the World for his age ??
Good God man alive theres hope for a two legged Donkey. What a bloody hilarious joke this Tennis standard is !
Do you play tennis?
Maybe you should take up the game, you might like it. Harder than it looks.
Yes since l was Seven years, Tennis has always been a sincere love of mine. Truer than any Women.
@@MarkAnthony-pq9nx Lighten up. Not everyone can be a 6.0 player. Maybe someday you'll get there.
Horrible
What's horrible??
@@10smike quality of tennis
You should try playing sometime, it's not as easy as it looks on camera.
