Just came across this video, just wanna say BRAVO! It's not easy adjusting to different playstyles but you seemed to deal with it really well, definitely following your steps!
First time watching the channel. I want to preface that you have very nice solid strokes and I think you are a solid 4.5. I was surprised to see the level of players at this tournament to be honest, as to me, it is not as high as I see here the Northern California vs the 4.5's I play week in and week out. But I think most 4.5 players here in Norcal protect their ratings as not to get bumped up to 5.0. Congrats on winning the tourney and best of luck at 5.0. From what I have seen, most 5.0's might as well be open players.
@javace79 You're right. Most 5.0s play open, so there tends to not be that many tournaments with a 5.0 division. I'll lose in the first round of most opens. I'll have to put in a lot of practice to compete.
Really nice high margin of clearance at the end. I could feel the pressure of each point just watching from behind the screen, how much more you on the court!
yea 4.5 has a lot of stucked pusher that cant go higher as they'll be punished but wins against not so consistent 4.5 that have great shots at time but makes too many unforced errors. Very annoying to play, but you gotta beat the to graduate 4.5 😅
@raiderraider11 I am using the aero 98. No mods. Feelings good all around. I have used the plus size version for all my racquets in the past and I'm kinda missing it for my serves but we'll see if I change it up.
I'm just wondering why you want to move up from 4.5? Are you at the top of the rankings? I remember playing 4.5 tourneys and there were hardly any 5.0 singles draws so mostly everyone played 4.5 but that was like 10+ years ago in southern California.
@chewey3rd That's still true today. There aren't many 5.0 draws but I want to get better and in order to do that I have to play against people that are better than me.
@@advantagetennis3459 I hear ya but when I was playing the 4.5 tourneys, I usually made it to the semis or finals at many tournaments and the level of play was very strong. Some of the strongest players were usually at the 4.5 sectionals and the money tourneys in Palm Desert and also the grandprix finals which were invitational only depending on your singles or doubles ranking. Anyways, best of luck and keep up the great work on the vids.
Good vid as always. I know it's hard to keep track, but in your video editor you may have a way to tell when the audio is running a high volume due to some of the planes flying over. Might I suggest some audio normalizing there to keep things from blasting off. It's been a hot day and it straight up went from normal tennis to blasting my ears, giving quite the headache.
Great stuff. As someone else said I don’t really understand the systems of USTA and UTR but like you said in the comments before, you would start at like a 4.5 if you play and are athletic and fit right? I think I’m at this level. Looking at your competition and all lol
def not, not that you arent at this level but if you play and are athletic and fit that won't get you to 4.5- most likely 3.5 or 4.0 at best. 4.5 you have pretty good strategy understanding and your shots hold up under pressure
@devpatel7154 If you can, play against someone who knows their rank with certainty and decide what tournament to join from there. Like @Scarvernoin said, being athletic and fit is a great starting point, but being 4.5 out the gate is rare. I've been thinking about making a video on the different ranks now that I've gone through some of them. Maybe that would be more insightful.
@@Scarvernoin got ya got ya. I play on my club team at university and played in hs so it’s not like I’m new lol. I just never decided to get on utr or figure out the ranking lol. I have played people that are pretty good and I can stick w em
@devpatel7154 If you think you can play close to this level, start at 4.0 & let the system bump you up if needed. You definitely don't want to start too high in USTA as you'll have to wait awhile to get bumped down & its not always easy.
You had awesome opponents outside of the final guy who was awful. 100% pusher with no desire to hit winners. Also at 10:28 you clearly won the match, that ball was in.
@jeremi7214 I watched Winston's match against Gino. In my opinion, Winston needs to work on his footwork and athleticism. His ground strokes are pretty good overall.
How are they both 4.5. Both are ball passers. I understand using this strategy if your playing for money, bug if your playing for fun idk how moonballing is fun.
Watching this is good to remind me how terrible 4.5 is. Just awful movement, shanking gimme volleys and blasting easy balls out for no rhyme or reason. Reminds me completely of my own game!! 😂😅
@williamc4221 Yes! The official name is 12 point tiebreaker but from personal experience, most people call it a 7 point tiebreaker because it is the first to 7.
@howdy0000 That's officially called a ten point tiebreak. The other 2 types are the 12 point tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) and the 9 point tiebreak (first to 5, win by 1).
Gino is the 4.5 boogeyman. What a nightmare. A pusher that can hit hard when they want to. Good win. Great play on both sides.
I play like Gino and chase everything
@@EdgewoodTenniscool story
Great tournament. Congratz on graduating from 4.5 😆! Excited to see how you figure out winning at the next level. Vamos 💪
@jamesmontgomery5717 Thanks a lot! Vamos!💪🏼
Great job and nice playing, Andrew! It's awesome hearing your thoughts about each match. Looking forward to watching each match in full.
@tenniszerg Thanks man!
Great footwork even in hour three of that last one. Still moving like it was first set. Nice win
@williamb19 Thanks! I edited out the cramping/stretching between points but keeping my feet moving was all I could think about at the end. lol
That heavy deep shot you consistently hit is fantastic

it just shows you that even at the higher levels you still get moon ballers and that you have to be patience and play ugly if need be
Some heavy topspin!
@jimgoddard3957 Thanks!
Gino with a big hook at match point. Nice lob.
great matches. congrats on your advancement too
@seank468 Thanks!
I gotta say Gino looks like the ultimate pusher.
Hits his shots like a3.5 but he gets them in consistently and annoyingly over and over again .

@Pierre-Id5oj you summed it up pretty much.
congratulations on the win!
@shp7589 Thank you!
Gino’s backhand is absolutely atrocious. Great tournament mate.
Hey dude, what product do you use to film your matches ?
@MFWest I use a GoPro and I have a few different stands for different courts. I'm gonna be making a video on the set up soon!
Really solid playing! I feel like I saw you practice at Pearson a while back
@Kentpwns I do practice there from time to time.
@@advantagetennis3459 Well I can say your vids don't do your pace justice!
I've been trying to tell people! lol JK Thanks @kentpwns
Nice consistent hitting. Gonna be a lot more pace on the ball at the 5.0 or open level
@lowelife4life183 Power and consistency📈!
Where do you find tournaments like this? I swear I can’t find any in my area
Awesome job bud. Wish I could play like you
@lanceschilling541 Thanks! I'm sure you could with some practice!
Great video - have subscribed!
@tennissliceoflife Appreciate it!
Hey dude, nice playing! Where’ve you been signing up for these tournaments? I’ve been trying to look for local opportunities to play.
@ryantrang8466 Check out the USTA website. You'll find a bunch of tournaments. playtennis.usta.com/tournaments
That grey and blue court is nice. Where in OC is this?
@AlexBartnik Palisades Tennis Club, Newport Beach. It was very nice!
Wow that's an awesome little stadium. Don't think I'll get to play there but maybe I'll make it to watch a match!
Some of your forehands are very loopy (in a good way). What is your grip?
are you using the aero 98? how are you liking it on the one hander? any mods?
@raiderraider11 I am using the aero 98. No mods. Feelings good all around. I have used the plus size version for all my racquets in the past and I'm kinda missing it for my serves but we'll see if I change it up.

my god that guy Ginos technique is horrendous 🤮🤮🤮🤮he is definitely a grinder though
Gino was a tough guy! Can't hate the player, hate the game. 😅
hello! can anyone here explain what a Level 4 USTA tournament is? does it have something to do with the NTRP levels? much appreciated!
Good luck in 5.0
you guys have to do all these rounds in 1 day? - i couldnt do that
This tournament had one match a day. Most tournaments do two matches a day.
Dude I was in the Men’s Open draw for this tourney and saw Winston there too 😅 If I saw you I would’ve for sure said Hi man what a small world ❤
Awww, next time! How'd you do in the open?
@@advantagetennis3459 I lost 0 and 1 against a 11.5 😂 But have been playing a lot and got my best result recently so I’m super pumped about that

The players in this tournament seem to be all over in ratings. I saw 3.5. 4.0. 4.5. Etc.
For once winston is right about calling someone a pusher
Looks like my matches. 4.5 super pushers typical matches 2 1/2 three hours.
You had awesome opponents outside of the final guy who was awful. 100% pusher with no desire to hit winners. Also at 10:28 you clearly won the match, that ball was in.
Ye that call at 10:28 was insane Lmao
that ball was a good 6 inches out lmao
damn bro you spoiled the result like 20 seconds before it happened 😂. great playing though
@ToiletTennis My Bad!😂 Appreciate it!

How in the world did Winston lose to this guy? 🤦🏻♂️

It's called tennis!

Both had some questionable line calls.
Unless it was the angle.
Dicey call on match point

Kinda. lol but I promise I'm working on it!

There's no such thing as a "7 point tiebreaker." You likely mean a 12 point tiebreak?
@williamc4221 Yes! The official name is 12 point tiebreaker but from personal experience, most people call it a 7 point tiebreaker because it is the first to 7.
What do you call the super-tiebreaker that goes to 10? Nobody calls it an "18-point tiebreaker."
