- Following my play-through of Revelations 1 my expectations were set for a run of the mill experience. I never expected them to be blown away!
Resident Evil Revelations 2 released episodically in early 2015 and is the last Resident Evil title I've never experienced....until now.
Join me as I recount my experience playing it for the first time, how it fuses Resi 6, 0 & Revelations 1 together and ultimately how it successfully exceeds its predecessor.

I dont exactly know why, but this is my favorite Resident Evil game. The story grabbed me. I even remember crying at the end. Lol. Outside of the episodic crap used as a marketing tactic, i think this game really balanced horror and action in fantastic way. I would love to see a sequel some day.
And me, here's hoping we get a revelations 3 to fill in the details between 6&7/8 so we can see what happened to the BSAA... that's my hope anyway

Claire actually can use stealth takedowns, but there aren’t a lot of opportunities to do so in her senario.

This is the game that got me into Resident Evil, I got into it right around the release of Resident Evil 7. Since then I've been a huge fan of the series and even played some of the original games.
Its awesome to get into a series that's been running for a while, it presents you with so many options on what to play next!
Yeah I’m my case Code Veronica was my first Resident Evil that just preceded Resident Evil 4 and those were the ones that led me back to the original ones.
Honestly, after the first playthrough I just ended up using Moira all the time. Unlimited ammo for Claire, and that crowbar is op AF 😂
Nothing better than smacking someone with a crowbar, half life taught us that 🤣

And Raid mode is the most addictive Arcade style game mode in a RE game ever. I have 200 hours in it and still I need to compleet 5-6 characters! :D

The best resident evil game in my opinion, or at least the best I have played so far, I like the co op , s the setting, the story, the enemy types it hits all the boxes
Its a fantastic game, not near my favourite but it's a worthy entry in the franchise for sure!

The best RE game to you? Oh man, you really don’t like what makes RE special do yah lol. IMO it’s just meh, I’m playing it right now because I love RE and I’ve played most of them, just not this or REV 1, which I also bought recently.

I just finished the first episode of Rev2. I really like it. After playing RE2make, it’s nice to continue Claire’s story in a mechanically similar game.

I generally agree with your review of Revelations 2, I think it's a great game. I was one of those people who had to wait week to week for the next episode as it released, and like you guessed in the video, it was excruciating!
Just to tack on some other thoughts: I understand this review was solely about the campaign, but Raid Mode in Revelations 2 is an absolute beast. It is an entire game in and of itself. There are 15 characters (more than that as some alternate costumes are separate characters), and about 240 stages, the majority of which are ripped from RE6, with a few Revelations 1 stages making an appearance. You will be facing enemies from the campaign as well as Revelations 1, RE6, and even a special guest from RE5. Definitely worth checking out if you want more out of Revelations 2, I have put far more hours into Raid Mode than I have the campaign (and I have every single achievement and record for the campaign, so that's saying something).
Secondly, in my opinion, this is the definitive couch co-op RE game. Thought 5 and 6 are heavily built around co-op, the asymmetrical nature that you mentioned of having one offensive character and one support character truly makes this a unique experience. The game is certainly not Chris and Sheva mowing down hordes of enemies, but rather one character desperately trying to protect the team while the other is using their skills to either progress further into the level, calling out threats to the other player, or desperately using a crowbar on a stuck door while swarms of Afflicted rush in. I first experienced this game playing co-op, and the sewer section with Barry and Natalya was especially memorable. Natalya has to venture far from the safety of Barry to open the sluice gates, and Barry has to help protect her by shooting enemies on the upper catwalks while dealing with monsters on the ground. This is a fantastic utilization of co-op that still creates great tension despite having a partner character.
And lastly, I could tell from watching your video on Revelations 1 that I enjoyed that game much more than you did, however there is one significant area in which Rev1 stays truer to that "classic" RE formula than its sequel, and that's in the interconnectivity of its environments. I am sure some would disagree, as everyone has their own taste on what they enjoy most about RE, but for me, the series has always been about exploring a large, atmospheric, interconnected environment. It's why Revelations 1 was such a breath of fresh air after playing RE6. The Queen Zenobia was a fantastic setting, and you were free to backtrack and explore to your heart's content. You were even rewarded heavily for it, for example if you chose to visit the Solarium upon entering the main hall, you could turn on the water filter and then return later to access more the room and stock up on ammo and weapon upgrades.
Breaking Revelations 2 into Episodes really hurt this aspect, as the game not only feels more linear because you don't return to the same environment episode to episode, but it led to the game feeling much less interconnected. I would have loved for the island to be treated much more like Rockfort Island in CVX, free to explore and unlock its secrets, but instead we were given bite sized set pieces to play around in, and once we completed the episode, we were unable to return to those areas. In my opinion there is something very essentially "Resident Evil" about playing in one large environment as you slowly unlock the secrets as the threat level around you gradually increases. In RE1, you can travel from the final elevator all the way back to the main hall of the Spencer Mansion if you were so inclined. This was actually one of my biggest criticisms of RE3 Remake as well.
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant on your channel, keep up the great stuff man!
This essay (I mean that in the best way possible btw) is the first one to give me reason to go back to rev 2 for Raid mode! As you've probably picked up from the channel the alt modes aren't usually my cup of tea but what you've described with the tie in locations to 6 and a potential cameo from 5 I'm really intrigued by that.
After 8 is released and I'm done with revisiting all the main line series I'm going to revist all the modes I havnt given a chance to and do some kind of video with that.... stay tuned!
What you mentioned with Rev 1 in going back through the environment; I do agree with you and I also went to the solerium and cleared the infection there to get some extra gear and I did really enjoy that, it's the map and the use of the scanner that kind of sucked the enjoyment out of the exploration for me. I agree with what you said in terms of being able to revist areas being a huge portion of what makes RE... RE. Its not always done great (looking at you RE0) but for the majority of the series having the ability to re explore areas that were inaccessable is a major reason why I love the series

So what’s that fuss with a game? lolz… Anyway, if you were a console player you didn’t have to endure this episode-shuffle. You could get the deluxe version first off.

The PS sale right now is a goldmine for Resident Evil I rebought re5&6 to save me digging my ps3 out of the basement. It took the sting out of having to buy them again just to review them 🤦♂️

They were so cheap, I couldn't resist :)
I am specially happy I did so for the PS3, because in July 2021 they will shut the PS store down for this console. I am certain Xbox 360 will soon follow.

for me, Revelations II is among top 3 RE games of all times, super like their doing story in tandem gameplay n its (daily) raid mode is incredible 👍🏻
It's in my top 3 next to Resi 4 and Code Veronica. I would put the original RE2 in there as I loved playing the PS1 port at my uncle's house back in the day.....though got stuck beating it on a lousy PC port at home lol.

This was just the type of update look video I was hoping to find, as I was thinking about borrowing this from my friend later today (UK time) as I did play Revelations 2 for a few hours years ago and It's just been on my mind as a game I'd like to tick off my list, but I really wanted to know if it was worth my time. It looks like it was influenced by The Last of Us with the stealth sections which look great, so I think I will borrow this and play it this bank holiday weekend as long as my pre-ordered R-Type Final 2 doesn't show up with the post man in the morning. I looooove this game. It was my first RE game and I played through it during lockdowns worst beginning periods. Somehow it really helped me. It will always be one of my favorite games ever. Its scary but the action and weapons pack a real punch. But its not tooooo actiony and ridiculous. Its got a perfect balance.
Lockdown was a great time to catch up on some classics! If it wasn't for Lockdown I wouldn't have started this channel!

I put 150+ hours into raid mode with a buddy. It's so much fun
you forgot to mention the feedback from weapons are some of the best in the series and shooters in general. I had an issue with graphics a bit too reminded me of old rockstar titles, not that that’s a bad thing just weird for the time period, the game itself has become one of my favorites from RE my next play will be CVX (Code Veronica X) which will be my first play through ☺️ GREAT REVIEW✨
I loved CVX, I hear feedback that the game is really difficult, but I didn't find it hard at all. just keep stock of your ammo and don't be wasteful and you'll be absolutely fine 👍

Revelations 2 was the first time since the Game Cube remake of 1 that managed to make me tense/scared. For that reason alone it remains one of my favorite entries in RE.
Rev 1 has the higher heights for me with the comms officer but 2 is consistently great throughout - stellar game and criminally underrated within the RE community
I think resident evil revelation 2 is the best RS co-op game, I liked the fact that one character was the main fighter and the other was a support, the gameplay was well balanced it wasn’t action like RE6 or 5, there was a lot of puzzles, track backing, horror survival, apart of it being in episodes it truly did stay a tradition RE game
I liked Barry’s return, we haven’t seen him since the first RE game

I love playing the campaign alone because using two characters at the same time makes the game more interesting.
I would have exploded more this idea of the butterfly Effect between both campaigns.
Choices would have been cool which then radically affect Barry's half, love that idea!
The campaign is a lot more fun when you play Co-Op with someone else.
There are A.I. issues, where your companion will not shoot anything . Other than that, controlling both characters works really well
Meh I prefer Rev 1. It was more claustrophobic and your timing had to be correct to dodge an attack. REV2 environments are a lot more open and you can dodge whenever you want. I didn't feel like it required much skill.

Hey! I just picked this and the first game up for 7.99 each on switch, and they were also the only mainline RE game i hadn’t played. When i say mainline btw, i mean any of the RE games that uses the same general gameplay mechanics as the main games. I count RE 1-8, the REmakes, the Revelations games, Code Veronica, and O.
Outbreak also KIND Of counts, but there is something different about that one.

You mention mainline and the entires you've included in your description is the entirety of the mainline series 👍
Outbreak is a different beast as its lore and events don't really get referenced later on outside of character names so I'm not even sure if its canon. I'm writing my script for outbreak as we speak and I havnt found a definitive answer on if its canon or mainline 🤷♂️
@@SSJdavey some people dont consider code veronica or the revelations games as “mainline”, and only consider 1-8 as being “mainline”, so i figured i had to clarify hahah.
I believe outbreak is considered non cannon by most, i cant remember exactly but for some reason i think i remember reading that some story beats create inconsistencies within the timeline, and thus its non canon. But i could be trippin

Just finished this game today and goddamn the cliffhanger at the end (still hoping for a sequel). Only thing I didn't like is too much censorship after having to played 4, it just feels good to decapitate enemies and be scared at the same time when dying due to horrific deaths on said game, considering this is just a spin-off it's still as good vs the main series for me.
I hope we get a sequel, it'll be a damn shame if they leave the series out to dry

Yeah I got these chapter by chapter when it was first coming out lol. It was slightly bothersome waiting a week for my next chapter but eh, it wasn't that bad.

I didn't forget to I just didn't include them, for this series of reviews I focused solely on the main game
If enough people want it I'll cover the side modes - quite a few people have mentioned how good the raid mode is. I'm not a fan of any of the side stuff in resi tbh, mercenaries, vs modes any of that stuff I just like the campaigns 🤷♂️
I prefer Rev 1, although that game isn't perfect either. I felt like playing (basically) the same levels twice in a row was more annoyingly repetitive than mechanically clever - Same thing with switching between the characters over and over. To each their own though!
I can see that critique, for me any excuse to play as Barry Burton is good enough for me 🤣
You're supposed to walk around with the secondary character 90% of the time, 10% is for combat. Remember secondary character auto heals.
I prefer Rev, but my experience with Rev2 was tainted by bugs and similar issues at launch which have, obviously, been patched for the most part.
Rev on 3DS launched at the end of the era where games just worked day 1 without needing a patch, and the game had the extra technical demand of glorious 3D! =D

I think that this game has one of the best possible inventory systems in a coop Resident Evil title, and this should have been used RE5.
I liked how firearms have their own four separate slots from the main inventory, which a D-Pad allows instant access to. It was also neat that knifing only needed that one button press to use. It freed up another button specifically for throwable sub-weapons, and holding it down allows you to instantly switch those using the same D-Pad. That system could have helped make RE5’s combat easier to engage in, on the fly.
I also liked how the item boxes were used exclusively for firearms, while the ammo, healing items, and throwable sub-weapons all had to be kept in the immediate inventory. Given how RE5 and RE Revelations 2 both allow players to restart from any chapter and have their inventory carry over, I think the latter’s system makes it far less easy to cheat. Otherwise, I could just keep replaying part of an earlier level and farming it, until that backup item box was packed with supplies I could access at any point, thus removing the need to be as efficient with resources. Having a button dedicated to healing was helpful too, along with an ability to temporarily drop items on the ground RE0-style.
Hi brother, I am struggling to get this game full for Xbox 360 it only has like one episode with the game , How can I get the full game or all the episodes ?
Now I'm not sure on xbox as I'm a playstation guy but on PlayStation you download the episodes individually or as part of the season pass I imagine it's the same thing on xbox?
I got it digital so I don't know if its different with the physical release but I doubt it as the eps were released weekly on its release so I guess you need to download ep 2 onwards from the store

The reason why they did the episodic thing was to make a tie in with the original 3ds Game which also broke its story up into individual episodes kind of like a TV show or that other horror game with people don’t like to mention alone in the dark

the Xbox 360 Alone in the Dark used an episode structure. it was basically framed like every chapter was an episode of a tv drama. the release itself wasn't episodic, but the game was.

How does this compare to RE4 Remake? I just played and beat that (first time), and got the itch too…looking at this and/or 6.

@@josephjoy2245 Yeah Rev 1 is a solid game. Keep in mind Rev 1 was developed exclusively for a handheld device (Nintendo 3DS) as the graphics/sound were accentuated for bigger consoles; unfortunately, the gameplay was never accentuated for bigger consoles. For example:
1 - You're presented with a ton of ammo and herbs but the inventory management sucks
2 - Handgun ammo, shotgun ammo, machine gun ammo, etc are all separated and there are limits as to how many you can pick up LMAO (you can't mix various ammo in the same case...so dumb)
3 - You max out at being able to carry 5 herbs and you have to take a hit, heal, etc before you can pick up another herb
4 - If you open a door, you can't shoot an enemy until you enter the same room as them...yes it's ridiculous
^Many of these restrictions/limitations were built in presumably to help this game run more smoothly on an underpowered device such as the Nintendo 3DS mind you...just wish they could've upgraded this for bigger consoles
Rev 1 is a very fun shooting game with super tight spaces. While both Rev 1 and Rev 2 are both survival horror, Rev 1 remains scarier on repeat playthroughs whereas I can't say the same for Rev 2. Rev 2 does have better gameplay mechanics though.
Rev 1 = better graphics, production values and character development for supporting roles. Has 7-8 outstanding tracks as this game likely has the best soundtrack of any RE game....
The story line of Rev 1 is very convoluted but it merely serves as fodder for the development of supporting characters which I'm very intrigued by.
Rev 2 = better gameplay mechanics, better story/characters/dialogue/writing, and still very atmospheric. This game was released at a cheaper full retail price upon it's 2015 launch of 25 bucks whereas mainline games such as RE6, RE7, Village, and RE4 Remake were priced at 60 bucks+++++USD
The revelations games to me are somewhat like 6, arcadish and very action heavy. I don't want constant action when playing re games, re 7 and 8 are literally the most action I want and they went a little over the top, would've been much better had it been toned down and a little more focus on environment and horror, but there's clearly 2 types of re fans. The old heads like me that want the old stuff just modern and the new gen that wants more action sadly
These days I think its moved back towards less action than it was with 4 5 & 6 but I get your point, I'd prefer more horror and less action. I found rev 1 & 2 struck a great balance though, really enjoyed those entries!
I prefer both styles, I only didnt like how the series became with 7 and 8.

I have to disagree the first one was amazing and made from the ground up for the 3ds when it first launch showing the power of the capcom mt framework mobile engine at it fullest,the second one was meh really, it felt cheap and it shows, you can see the budget went places this time around also they reused a lot of re6 mechanics(which is not bad but where really uneeded in this game)and even one of the boss fights animation(I think the uroboros tyrant from this game) is almost if not exactly the same as Ustanak's animation and it makes the tyrant model look wonky at times, I did like that you can play as Berry( the she wesker thing is a bit cringy lol but ok)but still Idk this game feels odd, the Moira and Claire character swaping was a bit strange to get used to but it was ok( yes I know its not a new thing cause they did the same in RE0 and RE4 at times with Ashley) the Raid mode was fun though, story was also not that great I prefer the first games story and the final boss was awesome, Alex Wesker was somewhat dull in my opinion. Overall I think its ok but certainly not better than the first one.The only thing I dont like much about revelations 1 are the ooze(the other enemy types are cool though) I prefer the zombies but I understand the theme of re revelations was an aquatic one so it made sense.
I agree with you that rev 1 looks much better than 2 esp with the HD lick of paint on the ps4 version but for me the story in 2 really worked for me compared to 1. I found alot of the characters in rev 1 were just under utilized 🤷♂️ but I 100% respect your opinion, we all have our preferences 👍
The bosses in rev 1 are much better than 2, I don't think anything surpasses the comms officer!

Actually, I stealth killed a zombie at the plant with Claire in Episode 3...can be tough as these A-holes have great peripheral vision lmao. I absolutely hate having to pay for the skill of "follow up hits" while enemies are on the ground as I didn't upgrade that skill until episode 3....overall, this game is one terrific cohesive package and in my subjective top 3 of RE games.
I didn't know it was even possible with Claire until the comments told me!

I got bitten (pun intended) by the RE bug because of RE7 and pushed aside other titles in my backlog and started playing RE 0, 1R, 2R, 3R, 4HD, 5, 6, Rev1, and just got this.

@@SSJdavey I always drag my partner into it. One plays support other assault. It really does change the game, when one is calling out weak spots on bio weapons or having to follow the other person's directions when an invisible enemy appears definitely improves it. And it makes the melee combos and puzzles alot more fun

IMO they should have ditched Barry or kept him as an NPC. It just got on my nerves + broke immersion when playing as him. The art direction was just marvellous - possibly the best of any RE game. It could have been contender for RE4’s throne but typical Capcom usually end up getting lost in translation.

@@SSJdavey I think Barry just works well as a back up NPC - as he originally was in RE1. He’s fat and middle aged, so, not exactly protagonist material.

Yeah but the lead development platform was PS4/Xbox one, even with a down scaling to Vita it doesn't make up for how old rev 2 looks. Other games managed to produce Vita ports without harming the base console visually
I like the Revelations games I wouldn't say this is better in every way though, the episode based system works against it in a way, also some of the dialogue is just needlessly edgy, the character control while not as bad as RE Zero is still not as good as just having control of one character at a time without the player switching. The original Revelations while not perfect I prefer just about

@@SSJdavey really what I think hurt it the most though is the episode style of it, it kinda feels abit Resident evil meets the Walking dead, also after you finish the vlaire sections when you go to Barry and Natalya you are just retreading alot of the same level just with a slight variation here or there, I can understand why some people would like it, but for it just didn't hit me like that, whereas with the original revelations I went into it blind expecting it to be horrible and was nicely surprised , with 2 maybe I went in with higher expectations because of that and was abit disappointed overall

The Wii version of this game and the first one is just rail-shooters that you would expect from an arcade. Also, the game's story is completely different in some places. Or I am misremembering.

Nothing will ever compete with that first time I played RE on a grey PSX and saw the first zombie. I love 1-3 and hate 4-5, but I actually like Rev 2. I never played zero and code Veronica so they are the ones I'm doing next.

Zero is a beast of a game on hard (which is the only mode worth playing imo). Working through cv rn and oh God the dialog, lmao
Revelations 2 is a decently good game, the ambiance is better than rere1, buut the mechanics holding them together isn't as good or satisfying as the previous one, but it exchanges it with different virtues, a great example is the arcade mode, it has way more personalizable characters, the system of medals is way more forgiving, buuut the enemies and dodge system don't make it as entretaining and hard, for example, let's compare the ozzies versus the mutaded/corpses they do look more scary and can creep you the way they move, they even become glorified creepers, buut they become absurdly easy once you get used to them, them pointing at you stops being scary and becomes a coreographed staying still and ready to die in a headshot, wich makes them way less scary even as groups and in the harder difficulties (if you play in ps4, bet it was fair and needed in ds), wich to me kinda lowered the tension in claire's side, on rere1 knowing how to aim well was essential, since the ozzies were harder to it with their shambling and hitboxes, (for example, the common oozie has a weak spot in the bigger arms end, but it moves like a disjointed pendulum, so good luck), buuut, ngl the character and weapon personalization is top tier fun, the progression makes it addictive, however, the bosses were seiously lacking for me, they were ok, but it tells a lot that you rarely face them in arcade mode if ever, still a pretty good game worth your time

I prefer the setting of the first one but the game barely took place on a ship anyway.
Rev 1 is my least favorite mainline re besides 6 while id say Rev 2 is pretty good
2 has barry in it, and it's common knowledge Barry makes anything better

i disagree completely. id much rather play ORC 4 times over (both stories twice) than play all the chapters with my husbando barry. i found the game too frustrating and most of all, BORING. i liked that you werent a walking arsenal, however, the game throws you an army of enemies like you WERE an arsenal, making for a completely one-sided fight. i did like moira's physical appearance and claire's alternate cowgirl costume. but thats about it. music was lackluster too. i will say that raid is the unarguably best part of the game.

I played Resident Evil Revelations 1 several times, both on my laptop and when I had my Nintendo 3DS, in both cases, I finished the game from start to finish. I never had the opportunity to play its sequel and I had always wanted to, since 2015 when the trailer was presented and I saw it. Only a few days ago I was able to play Resident Evil Revelations 2 for the first time and I am very close to finishing it (I arrived with Barry and Natalia at a kind of mansion).
I'm already telling you that this game has me very pleasantly surprised, it's incredible how terribly underrated it is, in fact, I don't have the slightest doubt or the nostalgia to say that this game is much, much better than the first Revelations, it's far superior in story, characters, settings, dialogue, enemy design, stealth mechanics, immersion, balance, atmosphere and fun. I even dare to say that it's a much better game than Resident Evil 5 (and I love this one, I have repeated it hundreds of times and it's among my favorites), not to mention how vastly superior it is compared to the sixth part of the franchise. This Resident Evil Revelations 2 at certain moments reminds me Resident Evil 4, 5 and even Silent Hill, from which it seems to take inspiration.
However, the game have three things tha I don't like it: Claire's facial design, the necessary overuse of secondary characters to save ammo (I guess playing with Claire and Barry would be really enjoyable in a second game), and finally, the very stressful item chests that can only be unlocked with Moira and Natalia, I really disliked this mechanic alot.
This game is easily a 9.7/10 for me. Love it!

I am not the greatest in videogames I just play for fun so why is Capcom have the need to put cool unlockables behind the hardest difficulty instead of the Reward shop so everyone gets a chance at the unlockables is it because of trophies F trophies I don't care about those I prefer what they are doing with unlock everything DLCs I just wish they would go back at the old releases and do that as well and for Fing sake they Capcom needs to fix the PSvita port of Revelations 2 cuz thats freaking stupid Killzone Mercenary on the PSvita looks amazing yet Revelations 2 looks like shit.

@@SSJdavey it was that and Natalia. Even though she was a better side character than Moira it just threw me off. It was also the tone that was different. Claire’s portions were always darker and creepier to me. I guess I felt like I was playing a different game when I played as Barry. The first part of episode 1 really set the tone. Revelations 1 had the same issue but rev 2 dealt with it better. Revelations 1 was perfect when you only played as Jill inside the ship. They broke the immersion when you changed characters and setting.

I bought this game but didn't realize I was only buying the first episode. I thought this was complete fucking bullshit and I'm quitting after beating episode 1. I'm not paying for damn near a new game this long after release. I also wasn't impressed whatsoever with the game. Re revelations 1 is WAY better in quantity and quality

Revelations 2 Campaign is an absolute dumpster fire!
The only reasons to play this game is because of the addictive Raid Mode, which is better than 1
(but not campaign) and the Resident Evil Events such as Weekend Survivor and Invasion of Huge Creatures Events make this game playable.
Are the resident evil events tied to the raid mode? I havnt played those before?

The whole purpose or should I say the main purpose of Raid Mode is to grind ( hopefully for only a few hours) to get lucky and be rewarded with the best weapons in the chest each play.
The best weapons to possibly be found are the 6 slot AMR for best played in Weekend Survivor and the 6 Slot Pale Rider which is best used in the Huge Creature Event.
Now I do want to specify when I said a few hours to grind be prepared to put in easily 100 to 200 hours before you find any good variation of each weapon.
It is great fun leveling up and to see if you get lucky enough to get these weapons, but unfortunately the odds are totally against you because of RNG.
The odds to find a basic minimum 4 slot AMR is the equivalent of you lucky enough to pick 3 out of 5 in the Mega Millions Lottery along with the bonus number.
That’s not me joking or being a smart ass.
The odds were listed on a Japanese website with the odds of finding each weapon.

The first game is superior.
Better production values, graphics, soundtrack, and character development in Rev 1. I still prefer the stories, dialogue, and gameplay in Rev 2 however.
