  • Resident Evil 5 launched in 2009 introducing Co-op to the RE4 formula. It went on to sell the highest in the entire series. In the years that followed i've looked back on this entry as the superior title to RE4.
Its been 12 years since I last played the game and in this review I break down what I loved, what I hated and ultimately answer the question... Is it better than its predecessor.
If you enjoyed the video put a like on it and don't forget to comment your thoughts on the game. I really hearing from you all and I try to respond to everyone I can!
Next up on the channel is RE6 so make sure to subscribe so you never miss an upload
    Thank you for watching
    Take care

The main draw for me regarding Resident Evil 5 (a one of the main reasons it sold a lot) is this is the game where you FINALLY get to fight Wesker in a final boss battle, so the game has a "series finale" (or at least "season finale") feel to it considering how hyped up that Chris Redfield vs Wesker battle was for the last several games(Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, etc). Wesker was such an EVIL bastard in RE5. It delivered on that.

I think Resident Evil 5 sucked and unpopular opinion Im sure, but I think 4 while a better game than 5 sucks too and was where it all started going downhill (I don't care if its a critical darling) before the recent resurgence.
Give me puzzle solving, exploration based, slow burning atmospheric SURVIVAL HORROR based RE games any day of the week over mindless shooter games with zombies. I'd put any of the original 3 and CV over 4 in my list even if they're dated. Remake is perfection that will never be bettered imho and RE 2 remake second and I'd imagine if Capcom resist the urge to turn it into something its not that if a Code Veronica remake is made ot will rival 2 for the second spot.

5:03 - all the more reason if RE5 gets remade, the game needs to start with Lost in Nightmares incorporated by default, as the beginning. It’s more convincing that way for Jill’s “death”.

I'm kinda tired of later RE games being criticized for straying from RE's identity.
Its identity is whatever Capcom, the IP owners, decide that it is. RE's gameplay was a natural evolution as it went from a scary setting with unfamiliar enemies to aged and experienced veterans dealing with same old same old. The combat focus is honestly logical considering these factors.
There's usually still some small horror aspects mixed in as well anyway, nowhere near as prominent but still existing in small portions.
RE5 does have resource management too. Especially considering the partner system.

There's such an easy way to fix the Inventory quick swap in controls in this game. Just make a Second Tap to the direction you want to go on slot down, then back to the previous one. If you count, with the exception of the middle slot, you can access 8 slots instead of 4, as long as each button access two slots and always go forth and back between them. And anytime you go to another slot, you wil allways select the first slot then a second tap to get the next slot. It's not hard.
They actually did something similar with RE4 Remake, where you have two slots for weapons on each d-pad button.

While RE5 is my favorite RE, I find 4 to be objectively better due to a more interesting story from an objective standpoint that can also stand on its own as a standalone game. The map variety, length, inventory management, Mercenaries (from a competitive standpoint), is all better. Most of the bosses are worse in RE5 as well and the gimmick sections like the turret section, then the El Gigante fight on the turret, then the Irving turret boss fight, then Excella. However 5 isn't a complete copy paste of RE4 and does good things. There are different enemies that were never in RE4, and ones that are only based off RE4. The only enemies that seem similar from 4 are the default enemies and centipede head looking enemies that come out after you kill a regular enemy. But the latter are like a reverse Type 1 Plaga from RE4. They do lower damage and have less range, but take way more shots to kill, so they are still different. Co-op also changes how to play RE5 quite significantly compared to 4 as well. While RE5 Mercenaries is the worst one for competitive/high score play (it's super RNG due to mutations screwing over combo multipliers), it is superior to RE4 in a fun factor perspective. Way more characters, weapons, maps, and general variety. RE5 keeps the core gameplay of RE4, which is fine. A sequel usually doesn't need to change the very core gameplay of the earlier games to keep it fresh and new. RE4 changing the core gameplay was a must considering how outdated and bad the originals were getting. But I also find it weird you're complaining about RE5 being too similar, yet the original Resident Evil games were practically copy and paste games of the older ones with a new gimmick or two added in with a new story. So I don't really understand how it's a problem for RE4 era RE games for you but not the original. Could you elaborate here?

    • @SSJdavey
      @SSJdavey  3 роки тому +8

Sure I'll try my best to expand:
RE5 sharing the same DNA as 4 isn't the problem per se, I have the same issues with it as in my RE4 review (mostly due to it not feeling like an RE title I.e lack of planning, prep, resource scarcity...horror etc) the problem with 5 is it brings all the issues I had with 4 but then strips out the pros I had with 4 (item management and great bosses)
      I hope that helps?

    • @SSJdavey
      @SSJdavey  3 роки тому +5

Just to further try and clarify:
With the older titles 12CV in particular the gameplay is what I adore from the series (item scarcity, route planning, enemy managment) it being similar works as thats the series identity I vibe with, and the variety is with figuring out new routes, new puzzles and new enemies to overcome

I love this game. Chris is my favourite character and this game is mostly why. I prefer RE1 and RE2R - but this game is in my top 5, maybe even top 3. For me it's way better than 4, and not just gameplay or even character, but RE4's colour filter bothers my eyes deeply. It was a product of its time with the muddy brown filter and this game rightly avoided that. The only real downsides of 5 for me, are the QTEs, and I wish we could've gotten the original single player version of this game. There were so many awesome ideas in the beginning, like the light/darkness mechanic, and how Jill was not a mind controlled supersoldier. Anyway, great review!

I don't mind the frantic pace of the main game though - but if more of the game was based around the village at the start (oh and could we not have extended driving scenes?); and if we could have a version of this game that isn't chapter driven, this could probably sneak its way to the top of my list. Maybe one day we'll get a RE5R in the RE engine, single player action/horror with a less bonkers story.

@@SSJdavey RE4’s characters didn’t click with me. Leon has Dante syndrome. It’s when Capcom tries way too hard to make a character seem cool; but they just behave like a 40-something-year-old, trying to be hip around the young kids. The rest are either boring or annoying.
I try not to judge older games by their controls, but they really hurt my experience. It didn’t take long for me to start feeling like, okay, what’s the least annoying way for me to get through this section. I’d look at the routes in each area, and picture how cumbersome dealing with enemies would be. So I never looked forward to new areas. I first played RE4 on the PS3. The controls were the main reason I didn’t even consider playing another RE game, until 5 rereleased on PS4. And don’t get me wrong, 5 has areas that highlight the limits of the controls too, it just feels more bearable in 5. To me.
And then Ashley. I don’t think I need to say more than that. Sheva’s solo AI is really bad; but give her a stun rod a sniper rifle, and let her hold all the bullets, you can pretend she’s a very pretty quasi-merchant. Ashley… there’s no redeeming her.

I really like resident evil 5. It was the first one I ever played, I had the red Xbox 360 that came with it back in 2009. I still go back and play that game with friends all the time. I only have a couple issues with it. It doesn’t even feel like it has a story or purpose until you reach the caves. The first half just feels like it doesn’t really know what it’s trying to do. I also thought Wesker didn’t have enough screen time. I wish they brought him in sooner, I think it took way too long. And Irving was quite possibly the worst villain in the franchise

With the recent RE4 Remake having segments that seem to make “call-forwards” to RE5’s story and gameplay (like Wesker’s ending dialogue and Luis participating in the double El Gigante fight), it made me ponder what an eventual RE5 Remake could be like. In turn, I was curious to know what your thoughts are, regarding this one gameplay feature in particular.
I am really wondering how the knife combat would be handled, given that RE5 would need a simpler inventory system. Having simpler inventory management for the real-time coop gameplay might necessitate removing the knife fragility mechanics and need for extra knives in one’s inventory. However, these features were the RE4 Remake’s way of counterbalancing the new abilities to perform knife parries and repeatedly escape from grabs with the same knife.
For now, what do you think would be the ideal approach for knives in RE5 Remake? Should they retain the knife parries/breakouts/fragility, or should they remove the knives’ counterattacks and make them unbreakable again, like in RE3 Remake vs. RE2 Remake? I might post a comment listing other proposals, but I wanted to focus on the hypothetical knife combat for now.

Knife wise it would be a real shame to see it go away after how great it was used throughout 4, I suppose the bigger question is what they'll do with 5 - will they include coop or will they totally re-invision it?
You could utlitize it to the same effect in both coop and single player without any real fuss imo

I just remembered that RE5 already sort of provided a means for players to break out of enemy grabs, with the help of their partner characters. So perhaps the RE4 Remake's added ability to break out of grabs with the knife may not be as necessary for an RE5 Remake to retain, similarly to how you mentioned the partner mechanics in RE0 making up for the lack of defensive weapons.
As for the knife parries, maybe an RE5 Remake could retain them, but provide a different means to limit their use. For example, there could be a stamina meter for knife parries, which functions similarly to the one RE6 had for unprompted melee attacks. Also, perhaps Chris and Sheva could parry a Chainsaw Majini, but doing so would lock the character in place, until either a partner rescues them or the stamina meter runs out and the chainsaw kills them (like how Sebastian kills the duplicated Sadist in "The Evil Within 2").

Overtime i find myself playing re5 more than 4. Re4 just feels slow and clunky to me. You say the same tank control style is present in re5. True but you forgot to mention things like strafing which can be use to evade enemy projectiles from axes to explosive arrows. Just the movement speed with the quick realtime nature of the inventory feels really responsive and in the moment. I think if Capcom implemented re5s updated gameplay in the "uhd" versions of re4. Hands down would be my go to RE game.

The only thing missing i'd say is moving while aiming. Unfortunately other aspects aren't as great or even good. But still, the game can still be tweak to be slightly better. As cool as the attache case was it just encouraged item hoarding, for an action game 5's system works so much better. It also doesn't just stop the action, the fact you're still in danger while managing your stuff makes the game much more tense, 4's gave you a safe comfy space whenever you felt like it.
It even raises the skill ceiling, a good RE5 player is always seen combining herbs and buffering heals at lightning speeds during a melee attack animation.

@@SSJdavey I find RE4 a little bit too easy now even on Professional so i'm always kind of comfy, the only tense moment in that game is the cabin ambush imo. Now RE5 kicks my ass even on just Veteran difficulty, it's not being tense from creepiness per se but more of it being mechanically tense, way more enemies at a time and deadlier ones too. The Regenerators are freaky but only the first two pose a real threat to you, after you get the Infrared Scope they become pushovers. Just snipe them at a safe distance with no danger of they getting to you because of how slow they walk. The Reapers from RE5 on the other hand are i think the better enemy, they are invincible everywhere but their weak spots like the Regenerator and are quite easy to take down because of them but on the other hand emmit a blinding haze if you miss, punishing you for bad play by making the weakspots even harder to hit while they're still walking towards you; That precious time you lose is crucial because their grab kills you instantly. When they are around they become main priority and the game gets super tense as your freaking life is on the line but when Regenerators show up it's business as usual, while the Regenerator is scarier i fear the Reaper way more.
Btw i wasn't talking about speedruns specifically, in fact i know nothing about those lol. It's more something you can do to improve your general play. In old RE you could combine the ammo with the gun to reload inside the inventory screen, that was absent in 4 (because it would be too broken obviously) but is back in 5 now that the inventory is real time. If you're fast enough you never actually need to physically reload your guns at all.

I found Ashley more annoying since she couldn't fight back at all. I did kind of miss rearranging the case from RE4 but I enjoyed being able to switch weapons much faster in 5. 4 was a tiny bit scarier but I personally enjoy the more action oriented RE game anyways. I hated the quick time events in both games equally though and I heard it was even worse in RE6 but RE6 sounds like a huge cluster fuck from start to finish based on what I've read/seen of the game anyways.

I'm mildly mixed which I prefer. Originally I liked RE4 better, but after multiple playthroughs, surprisingly I find that RE5 is more fun to play and is actually more intense than RE4. The stories don't matter to me anymore with the amount of times I completed them, so I skip all cut scenes whenever I play them. Graphically, even compared to the HD project, I prefer the style of RE5 for personal preference but the art direction of 4 is better. The thing is, by all means I do consider RE4 a better game with fewer faults than RE5, but RE4 could literally swap out Leon with a new character and it would function as a completely different IP. RE5 feels thematically way more RE in lore than RE4. RE4 has better pacing and is perhaps a slightly better solo experience as a whole... but RE5 is just better at creating intense combat encounters that deliver constant adrenaline, and you can't hoard nearly as much ammo making combat much much more about precision and resource management, especially in deciding what to give solo-play Sheva what to carry since she doesn't act as conservatively as I do. It still is a very good solo experience, Sheva isn't so bad.
Being a veteran of both, I guess I prefer RE5 now because it's harder. RE4 is so easy to me now that it just doesn't induce the same amount of adrenaline and it has a lot of slower sections with few enemies. RE5 is just a great action game. RE4 is still objectively better imo but I can't deny the amount of fun I have playing RE5.

  • @Gigan75pcp
    @Gigan75pcp Рік тому +1

Honestly, I had a blast with both games. But as I got older, I really see how much of a RE4 skeleton RE5 had. RE5 is still my favorite in the franchise, but I do see why it’s controversial. I think it’s deviation from 4 had to do with the time in which it was released. I feel that The design philosophy was a reflection of other action games that were mainstream at that time (Left 4 Dead, Modern Warfare, etc). Instead of being a master of horror/puzzling gameplay, it started gearing more towards action and fun with occasional horror/puzzles.
However, I find that okay because I believe they expanded on it really well. Not everything is entirely creative (because many aspects of its structure is based around RE4’s) but the idea of playing more RE characters with a co-op experience is incredible. I truly wish that the RE remake games would implement local/online multiplayer.
In short, I see RE5 as a positive reflection of both RE4 structuring and the time period in which it was released in. Whether you like it or not, this game still sold more copies than haters like to admit. Also I’m a massive Wesker fan so that obviously contributes zero bias.

RE5, for me, is what Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is for other people. When I got my first 360 back in '09, the absolute very first game I bought was Resident Evil 5 because at the time I was at the height of obsession with Resident Evil ever since playing RE4 the GameCube. Similarly, I played it to death; didn't quite get all Achievements, but I had all the treasures, all the guns and had unlimited ammo for them all, every costume and so on. The game just absolutely blew me away.
Even so, I don't ignore things that are wrong with it, though I disagree on various points, such as the inventory management system, which I felt was one of the best things about RE5. RE4 got so stale going through with the same exact weapons each time and RE6's system is practically antagonistic to players.

Once again I've returned with my opinions. RE5 is a very okay game with a very okay story with a very okay everything.
I didn't like it copy and pasting RE4. In fact, it's one of my many complaints. Act 1 felt so lazy. Abandoned village? Check. Infected villagers? Check. Searching for a blonde female? Fucking check again. I can go on and on why I don't like this Copy and Paste deal. But I'll just end up repeating myself. Also. That real time inventory is a blessing and a curse. Quick selects are a breath of fresh air for RE. No more pausing to select your side arm. No more pausing to heal. Just do it. Flicking down to switch to a heal, then flicking left to switch to your side arm (if you play that way) is awesome! But if you don't know you can do that, you'll just keep pausing to go through your 3 x 3 inventory anyway. A 3 x 3 inventory clutters up so easy. You gather all this ammo and end up having to to ditch some cause you have to pick something else up. And if you get the bullet proof/melee vest you're down to 8 slots! Let's say you have 3 weapons. 3 slots for ammo for your weapons. And one for your vest. That means you have 2 slots to spare on your own. Thankfully, you dont store key items or treasures in your main inventory which is a nice touch. And yes I know. You can save items before starting a new chapter or reloading a save because you died to a crocodile or Weskers savage bod. Click Organize. Go down to inventory, and you have your self a most generous storage system. However, you can only access it before loading a save and actually playing. That's pointless! The chest would work wonders over that. But I'll take what I can get.
I wont talk about Shevas horrible AI. What was said in the video are my thoughts exactly. This game was meant to be played coop. No one can tell me otherwise. Coop is just more fun anyway. Me and my friend were playing and we had a blast being just a bunch of idiots with guns. Fun story, we ran out of ammo and had to knife Weskers final form to win... which we did. Solo this game just makes you feel empty. But hanging with a friend and playing RE5 is a guaranteed good time.
One thing I respect RE5 for is it wasn't pretending to be a survival horror. It was very clear from the start this game was, is, and will be an action game. When it did try to throwback to "puzzles" like the totems and mirror puzzle, they just felt lazy. In fact, we did a mirror puzzle in RE4 too! Who woulda thought. RE5 does it again. Thankfully they were kept to a minimum and were only used as callbacks.
Also, is it me, or is the camera the best it's ever been? Tight and responsive to the touch. And it turns when you turn. Nice. Even the RE4 camera felt janky at times but my God does RE5 fix that.
RE5 is for those whoever thought "I wanna play RE4 with a friend." RE5 is not original in anyway. That said, the game itself isn't bad. I love the story. I love the gameplay. And it may be an unpopular opinion but, it's the story that makes a RE game a RE game. Not its genre. Survival horror or action, it doesn't matter. Its the story to me. And RE5 has that story. Chris and Weskers dialogue feel real to me. They're both done with eachother. No more games. They want the other dead. And the dialogue emphasizes that. A friend, searching for someone he's lost sp long ago. Hoping to find her, only to see her as a puppet to his mortal enemy. Even the lines "Jill, it's me! Dont you recognize me?" You can hear the desperation. Hoping to reach in there and pull his friend from the darkness only to be ignored. And Jill's pain once she wakes up and realizes what shes done. Plus the documents are fun to read. They're so well written it feels like you can see what's going on through the text. Its amazing. Characters are on par with the RE4 cast. Which is my favorite cast of all time. If you didn't love Chris, Jill, or Wesker before... you will now. They feel so fleshed out and no Cut scene feels like a waste. (DESPITE THE QTE) All are used to their highest potential. This game grips you with story. Tight gameplay. Fun enemies. And crazier backstories.
This game is a mixed bag of herbs. You'll feel some way after playing for sure. But you won't hate it. You'll like it for what it is. A RE story. Maybe not a RE game for all of you, but definitely a RE story for most. That said, it's an okay game. But play with a friend. For your own mental health.
Edit: I didnt bring up topics such as Set designs, weapons, and or gimmicks. Why? Well. As I stated (And was in the video) Most of that is just Copy and Paste from RE4. Talking about it is a waste of time. And as I've said before, I loathe the Copy and Paste deal whenever it rears it's stinking head. So you can imagine my feelings towards it. One big colossal "Uhhhhhg. This again." But copy and paste doesn't make a bad game. It just makes it significantly less fun to play through again. That's MY problem. The lack of replayability DUE to its copy and paste.

@Almight Egg completely agree on story making an RE game. I didn’t however love RE5’s story though. I liked the focus on Chris and Jill’s relationship and Chris’ determination to find Jill. I hated everything RE5 added to the lore. I hated that Umbrella was just a front for Spencer to achieve godhood. It was much scarier when he just seemed to be a twisted eccentric old man who only cared about profits.

Unlike a lot of people, from what I saw, I don't mind at all the QTEs whether it's in RE4 or RE5 or any other game for that matter, I actually enjoy them more often than not.
But QTEs with mouse/keyboard in RE5 and RE4 can be borderline impossible to do reliably, like it's or left click AND right click ( the only easy one ) or X AND C or A AND E I think, so it's all over the place, forcing you to move your hand on the keyboard to do it, it's really difficult, whereas on a controller it's almost impossible to fail these QTEs.
And concerning if RE5 is better than RE4, while I think RE5 is a pretty solid coop game, RE4 is a way way better single player expérience in my opinion, the level design, the music, the atmosphere, the tone of the game in general, RE4 has a big focus on action but the atmosphere still remains really creepy and spooky, it has some good horror game vibes.

Where I feel RE5 really lacked behind 4 was the environments. Alot of the beginning stages where soo forgettable and drab when compared to 4s' locations where near every part was burned into your mind your first time around. I do like the attempt of the daylight horror that I think was approached well, it's just that alot of the areas lacked the 'it' factor of 4s world. I hope the remake can really splash some sparkle on the world of RE5 since they can take many more freedoms in rebuilding the game since it lacked many iconic locations.

@@Road_to_Dawnyeah same here. RE5 is a bit arcade-ish, but also expands on a lot of what RE4 got right while also allowing for the most fluid co-op options available whether it was online, locally or w/ the AI. Learning how to play this game well, is addicting and all the extra stuff that can be done with it is fun. The battles w/ both Wesker and Jill are funny and can be tough, but satisfying if you know what you’re doing. If you’re a trophy or achievement hunter, those online battles were the worst & the DLC isn’t as good as the single player campaign. However, whenever I’ve played 5, I go back to 4 to see the differences and each time I learn new things to appreciate from both regardless of how many times I’ve played either one. I know the partner gets dunked on, but spamming the communication options w/ the AI or w/ real people can be fun and commanding them isn’t as difficult as the video creator says here. I can’t think of anything better than one shotting everything w/ double unlimited RPGs in open areas or running around w/ unlimited hydras or lightning hawks.

RE4 has you working your way up the ranks and we typically get a little bit of foreshadowing before the boss (hearing the El Gigante the first time we pass through the area, a brief glimpse of Del Lago as he consumes the police officer's corpse, a cutscene where Verdugo begins his hunt for Leon, etc).
Whereas in RE5, a giant bat thing comes flying in. You're on an elevator, and now there's a huge spidercrab out of nowhere. The pacing is all out of whack with 5 compared to 4.

People always talk about how RE5 sold more but don't realize that the Co-op made a huge difference because players naturally gravitate towards that and multi-player and the fact that Re5 was for a more casual audience and besides, RE4 won where it counted and that was awards and being recognized as one of the greatest games of all time by so many people compared to selling a bunch. The issues I will always have with 5 is with rosters of Characters we have we got Sheva & she has never been seen again. I always felt that was the dumbest decision. This could of been Chris & Leon, Chris & Claire etc.
Then Wesker being killed off really put RE6 & Revelations 2 into a horrible writing direction.
Having Wesker live at the end could of made 6 the best goodbye & introduce Jake in a different way.
Then Weskers Sister was killed in Revelations 2. Which could of been set up for a 3rd installment.
People always praise 4 & 5 as the best in the franchise, but 5 is truly where mistakes for the characters were made.
RE6 the story is how it is, because Wesker didn’t exist, people wonder why it didn’t make sense thats why.
I initially think Simmons is interchangeable with Wesker, for Dialogue as the story for Leon & Jake was set up to be completely different.
But with Wesker dead now the story was changed. Thats why it seems like where did Simmons come from🤷🏼 tf?
Then we have Alex killed in Revelations 2 & people wondering what happened to her.
I would have imagined at one point she was intended to survive to take Revenge on those who wronged Wesker.
Now that the formula and characters have become killed off. They then decided to reboot the series.
Which I don’t consider Resident Evil. I think RE 8 calling Village should be just that Village. 8 is just wtf? This is not RE anymore.
Revelations 3 needs to happen as where is Claire? Chris keeps showing up & it just doesnt fit or make sense.
I hope the winters story is dunzo! Total throw away characters! Especially the 1st person bs.
Resident Evil Code Veronica Needs to be Remade & put the franchise back to its roots.
Revelations 3 should happen after & should have Claire & Leon in a game again.
They could have done it in 6 but nope. Also omg bring Jill back she didnt get a proper goodbye at all. It made no sense with her revelations 1 & then Claire’s in 2 for Jill not to be in RE6.
Im not over the OG Characters, and I never will be because RE Village is terrible, the Winters are forgettable. RE7 is great as you forget who your playing as.
My issue is with RE9 how are they going to f up the franchise more? Or is it over?
    RE3 Remake total bs.
But RE4 was a masterpiece just like RE2 remake.
It doesnt matter if the story line or characters dont age anymore. They added vampires and fungus. So bring everyone back, and make the games feel like Resident Evil Again.
RE6 gets so much hate but it feels like a Resident Evil Game. 8 does not.
I blame all this on the writers for 5. RE5 is okay, but this was the point in the series that caused a chain reaction to 3 games in development.
Is it good or bad because of that? I would say its bad.
Just because we really only encounter Wesker in Code Veronic for a battle. So his ending be short lived, was not the brightest idea in retrospect.
Then the idea of Alex taking over would have been great.
I think Revelations 3 should continue with original Characters & the main series can develop into whatever it wants then. I think thats why REV3 hasn’t come out.
I dont know how I feel about this series. I truly feel 6 was the goodbye.
7 was a reboot that turned into and identity crisis with 8 trying to use books & dlc to make it all connected.
Thats how I feel about 5 & the series lol.

@@SSJdavey Whenever somebody mentions Chris Redfield, it's this version of him I think of (I think Capcom feels the same since they put this version in Marvel vs capcom 3 and Infinite). I actually like the stiff tank controls of past resident evils but also the flexible action controls the later ones have, RE5 makes the perfect blend of both for me. Since the enemies are adjusted to your controls, it feels smooth to play. To me RE5 does a better job than RE4 of making the stiff controls work with the more action orientated nature of the games. RE4 feels more restricted (no melee move when enemies fall but are not dead, no reloading in inventory screen for example) and RE6 onward abandoned the tank controls (in return making the enemies faster and more frantic for me).

I can't say better than 4.............. but it's more fun to play, or I should say replay. Mostly due to the replayable chapter structure, large amount of unlockable weapons, and quick swap weapons in gameplay.

For me RE 5 is better than 4. It's a very fun game. It was my first platinum back in 2009. I got the platinum playing alone and that was brutal on professional! Sheva is very, very stupid. The sections i failed the most were in that tribal village because the dumb AI would always grab a treasure on the floor trap and dies. The next place were in that enemy that looks like a roach. It was very, very frustrating playing solo on professional but still i like this game a lot. And yes, i play RE since the first one. Played it the first time back in 1997 on Playstation and been playing the franchise until nowdays.
I'm thinking about playing it again. Since 2009 i didn't play it. I remember the graphics were jawdropping back in the day and looks like it stills holds up.
