- The SIG MCX SPEAR LT in 5.56 is a soon to be released weapon that owes it's origins to both the NGSW program as well as recent SOCOM solicitations. It is the latest generation of SIG's MCX lineup of rifles and takes the weapon in a more professional direction. The SPEAR LT significantly reduces the weapon's weight from the Virtus lineup while giving more features that the Military / We asked for. I hope you'll join us as we go over SIG's newest offering; the MCX SPEAR LT.

Just want to tell you how much I appreciate these openings in the last year or so. Not only do you show a LOT of actual firing of the weapon, but you do it with very appealing military-esq tactics and with absolutely gorgeous filmography.
Agreed. I love the “action” opening to the videos. Opening with firing and movement satisfies my want to see the weapon in action early, so that allows me to focus better on the more instructional parts of the vid that come later. Lovely.
Thanks for the great content, Garand Thumb & team. I really appreciate your efforts to provide informative, entertaining content focused on firearms, their handling, safety, etc. It's great stuff, instantly accessible to new viewers and regardless of the topic, you set a new standard for review channels.
-makes a new rifle in a new caliber for the future of military applications
-releases a 5.56 version because they know it's more likely to be used in both markets
I get it but it's also kinda cucking themselves
Because .277 won't replace 5.56 naturally.
Yep, a solution looking for a problem. Last I checked, the M4 does everything this can do, and we already own them.

But sure, lets spend billions of dollars on new rifles to save ourselves a few hundred on BCG's.
I think at this point it's just that SiG basically has nothing to lose for the civ market given how they pretty much got massive fund from a lot of mil contract.
I wouldn't be surprised if they will also finally let out the MCX in 308 in the near future. I recall the working prototype does exist.
As a New Hampshire native I love being able to go to the pro shop and gawk over these things
Why get an MCX in 308 when spear exists? I mean, is that basically what a spear is?
Well the Spear was designed to easily convert to .308, so we kinda have it.

In the growing world of UA-cam marketing, GT’s disclosures continue to be incredibly refreshing and appreciated.
lol this guy doesn't get it. " no money was exchanged" but they gave him private access to their facility, multiple firearms, and early T&E examples to make content before anyone else. Some of that is better than money to a guntuber. Like it or not GT's " reviews" are commercials plain and simple. They should be taken with grain of salt. He is more their friend than yours.
@@christoolshed7746 Dude didn't say anything about thinking that GT was completely hands clean of market influence, just that it's nice to see when people disclose their relations with the company. He outright tells us that he has a good relation with the company, even if they aren't paying him cash. It's always good to know that he has a close relation with a company even if this video was not paid for or actually sponsored by SIG.
@@seantheplayer101 hopw does that change the fact that this is literally a commercial for sig released on a date of their choosing?
@@seantheplayer101 bingo!
@@christoolshed7746 they’d be crazy not to try and get his reach due it’s size. Nothing wrong with that IMO. It’s a cool product and I much appreciate GT’s approach telling us these things - compared to other guys just saying “this is a game changer” or “this is the best gun ever” after 1 mag. I’d be hard pressed to believe guys like Glover and GBRS arent directly on Sig’s payroll, but don’t know because they don’t tell us anything. Guys like Sage Dynamics also saying things like “this is not a review but me telling about a cool product I helped design” is another example of an acceptable ad to me. Most UA-camrs will pretend a product is amazing (take Olight as one of the worst) and Blatantly not describe relationship and pretend it doesn’t exist.

A great review of the Sig MCX rifle. I'm so glad to see the improvement to a piston gas system, despite the additional weight. Definitely a game changer with a suppressor. As always, thank you!
Thank you for remembering Gen 1 MCXs!!! The rifle even Sig has forgotten. The least modular "modular" rifle, with nothing but discontinued parts. Not bitter at all.

That is a really sweet rifle for sure, also I dig that paint job you did, very clean looking.

Love me some SIG's.
Became a fan of them since the P226 9mm, still my favorite handgun to this day, and have loved their stuff since.
The biggest issue with our issued MCX Virtus 11.5's is the weight, compared to our M4's. Also the SIG suppressors weren't available at the time so we're using AAC M2000's. Most of us looked for ways to save weight wherever we can. The rifle itself shoots well and cleaner with a can than a DI gun. We also use the Romeo 8 sight which when I first saw it i was skeptical about, however it's pretty decent. Great review!
Should have removed that forward assist for starters.
These are already in Service use?
Could you elaborate on "we" are using them
How are the M4 2000 cans vs the SIG can in terms of function

i work at the NH facility where i make the barrels for sig rifles, glad to hear that it has pleased the flannel father.
As a "Spear"-Light compared to the usual Spear/XM5/"Spear-Heavy", the lack of the side charging handle is kinda strange. Like one of the interesting things of the NGSW bid being removed from the scaled down version is just weird.
I was thinking about that as well, and then I thought, "what's wrong with the standard AR charging handle? It's nonreciprocating, out of the way, easy to use from either side"
I really think that side charging has become a gimmick to say, "look at me, I'm different than your standard AR!" when really, the standard charging handle is totally fine.
@@mcbadger2440 I think it’s better prolly with the side folding charging handle and I think from what I’ve heard the army just wanted the old standard charging handle put on the ngsw. But it seems weird being changed for this gun
@@mcbadger2440 My guess is more comfortable chamber checks and the ability to rack the gun without letting the stock off the shoulder.
I don't understand the side-charging handle, it seems unnecessary for shits and giggles.
@@invictusangelica the t handle does both of those.
I own a virtus and am not disappointed to see these improvements. I had a hard time making it my main rifle because of the handguard, weight, and trigger compatibility. Still keeping my Virtus though, it's a great rifle but it needed these changes to stay near the top.
That stock looks really hooky. Changing out my minimalistic stock because I got it caught on my chest rig strap during a training session, and that stock reminds me of it.
I am really coming around and liking the Spear more and more that I see of it. Thanks for the video!
I'm curious if this was the rifle that was being rumored compete against the run of 416s in use with CAG. Given the LVAW has seen some use, HK's bad customer support, and some advances in both DI and piston guns since 2004, something like this appears to be more suppressor friendly than the 416.

A really good rifle, both in looks and in functionality. It really looks like the definitive evolution of the M4 and with a few bits of refinement and some time to settle, it will probably end up being the new iconic AR platform rifle.
Definetly a bad flash hider but for how good of a suppressor mount it is, it doesn't even matter. Suppressors are pretty much a necessity and SIG did a really good job on that matter. I'd prefer a wider charging handle but that's about it. Really great weapon.
Ehhhhh…
Price vs benefit
Waaaay too expensive for what it brings.
The whole point of the rifle is that it is not an AR. The ergonomics are similar but it's a piston gun and lacks a AR-type buffer tube which allows for a folding stock.
@@Momofukudoodoowindu If you so think, don't buy it. Afterall, this is not a hitscan laser gun, it's an ordinary rifle with better features than most. That doesn't make it any more lethal, so if you don't want to upgrade, don't do it.
Of course, no matter the weapon you're holding in your hands, if you're not trained to use it, you will die.
@@Rampant16 I'm not familiar with the terminology, so thanks.
The flash hider is equal to, if not better, at suppressing flash than the A2 and most other similar flash hiders on the market.
As a proud Virtus owner, it does kind of suck that I no longer have the latest and greatest, that being said, as a Sig fan, I want to see Sig continue to improve, and this definitely improved on my biggest complaint about the Virtus, which is it's thick handguards, and heavy weight. That being said, at least the weight reduces recoil a bit which is nice. And adding the DD forward grip to the Virtus made it way more ergonomic and pleasant to shoot. I will definitely own the Spear someday though.
Just wish they had different finishes. Otherwise I'd be ordering mine right now on GB
And this one will be old news in another year or 2. You are just another complainer

I appreciate this guy disclosing that he's in on the SIG train.
I've only bought one sig, a p250 pistol when they first came out and it was an unrelable. It generally had a ftf or fte at least once or twice out of every 30 rounds. The sig laser/ light that I bought with it broke the first time I fired the gun.
You misunderstood, then. He said he's not getting paid by them. That doesn't mean he's not on the train (not sure how you can watch any of his Sig videos and determine otherwise). You should hear stories about what companies do to woo government (and military) personnel who are determining who wins the contracts. A friend and I were talking about the Army's decision to go to the new cartridge. We think it would be interesting to see the same technology that went into the 277 Fury in 5.56 and push the limits on pressure and push a heavier bullet.
Great point. I've been thinking of this idea for a while ever since she'll shock came out with the high pressure bi metal cases a few years ago
Can't really do anything else with 5.56 as it is today. It's a volume capped cartridge, meaning standard loads almost fill the whole case with powder as it is. A bigger and heavier bullet isn't going to be able to be pushed any faster without changing the parent case.
