I was pissed that our government choosed the hk146 instead of this beautifull rifle... A pride heir of the Famas that was an aging, but formidable weapon. You guys made an awesome and reliable bullpup platform with many upgrades, from the the trully ambidextrous design, to the ability to move the stock and so on ! I guess franco-german policies and nato standarts took the lead in the final decision, hélas.
As an American, you haven't been forgotten by me. Split, Croatia is one of my dream destinations. A whole city built in and around Roman Emperor Diocletian's palace. Looks stunningly beautiful. A Croatian-American friend of mine told me when traveling along the Adriatic coast, ever city along the way just gets better and better. I will visit before my life is over!

I had the opportunity to fire an VHS-2 in Croatia while doing some cross training with NATO forces. Was pretty sweet. When asking the soldier who was teaching me about the rifle how it handled full auto (a dream btw), he said “It is so smooth, you can gun down the runners easy.” Keeping the vague war crime vibe strong, brother.

His review and the praise it got from Karl from InRange TV kinda ended up making me finally pull the trigger on getting one of my own, and its genuinely such a fun rifle to use.
If you've ever been anywhere around the Balkans, that length of pull makes sense. I remember thinking I was above average height (6'1) then stepping off the plane in Serbia and immediately feeling like a child. They grow em tall out there.
No matter what kind of weapon you design. Wether its ergonomics are great, or wether you can put a tonne of stuff on it. When your average infantry say its a reliable and accurate weapon system that they enjoy having over annything else. Thats a masterclass of a weapon, right there.
Just picked up the VHS-2. Put on a viridian green m-lok laser handstop, followed by a magpul fore-grip. It's like it was MADE for that design! Very comfortable ergonomically. Solid rifle! Very pleased.
I'm still convinced that the haphazardly slapped on AR grip by Springfield is what messed up the ergonomics for the safety. The original grip looks like it would have positioned your hand slightly further back, giving a more natural position to flip the safety from. A custom made aftermarket grip could potentially fix this, and maybe even restore some of the visual design of the original too.
Hit the nail on the head. Sad part is the safety is very intuitive for switching between safe, automatic, and back to safe. I don’t think with just semi and safe it’ll be as intuitive as an AR but with the right grip (i’ll experiment with a K2 XL and some tape on mine first) it’d still be pretty good.

Our WHS is a solid rifle, I've used it and it takes time to get used to after using an AK-47. There are no bad weapons, but there are bad shooters. Even policemen in America carry the Croatian HS 2000 (you call that pistol the springfield HD)

Some people might think it's a Springfield product and they built their name on it, despite only selling it and literally having nothing to do with development or production. Imagine a HK or Glock being sold as Springfield...not gonna happen.
I tried it yesterday. It felt great in the hand.. 16" barrel in that short package, reliable, accurate. The manual of arms can definitely be trained and the trigger was much better than i expected; certainly acceptable but of course, nothing compared to the Geisele.. obviously (it's a bullpup with a totally different Purpose Of Use). It's A LOT of gun (battle proven) for the money. As a bodyguard, it makes a ton of sense for me. Would also pair great with the Kahles 3G 1-8 which was designed for CQB. My only wish would be a .300 blackout conversion.
I bought one of these after owning several AR platform guns. I have been impressed with the overall reliability and build quality after about 2000 rounds. It is an unconventional layout but, man is it compact and fun to shoot. The trigger is just as he describes and a bit of warning...if you are planning on using it on the same range day as your AR, shoot the AR first or take a minute to recalibrate your trigger finger because your Timney 2.5 lb pull might surprise you.

I own one of the domestically rehomed ones and I really like it a lot. A bit big next to my RDB and Tavor but so user friendly. The adjustable stock helps me get my melon down low enough to use the iron sights. Normal-headed people may not have that issue but I appreciate SA taking my enormous melon into account.
Bolt release is actually very well made, but most people don't know how to operate it. When you pushing full mag into the rifle, hold it with palm but not thumb. thumb is to push bolt release.
I just don't get why Springfield feels the need to rename things that already had perfectly good names. The HS2000 didn't need a name change and this didn't either.

Just today we had 30th aniversary of military operation Maslenica. There was demonstration of arms in use by Croatian army. It was first time I was holding HS VHS2 in diferent variants. It is amazing. Military stuff demonstrated dismantling and told me that it is awesome even after few thousend of shots. By the way HS VHS 3 is comming... 😉
16:35 - You've undoubtedly got more experience than I, but those seem like good reasons to have it as a first rifle. If you're not coming from an AR platform, you don't have the training bias that comes with that ergonomic setup. And in my experience, it's easier to learn on a crappy trigger and then appreciate the difference and shoot better with a good one than it is to regress from a nice trigger to a crappy one and not absolutely hate it. I appreciate a nice trigger as much as anyone, and probably more, because I came up on a bullpup.

Recently bought a hellion, and for someone with long arms, it's really pretty comfortable. I'm running it with an epsilon 556 muzzle device, and despite having a respectable amount of muzzle blast and is essentially acting as a loudencer, it makes it so that it has next to no recoil or muzzle climb for a 5.56. The trigger is definitely a bullpup trigger, but overall pretty good. The best part about it though is just how good it looks. It's such a great looking design imo, though I'll admit I have a definite bullpup bias.

I love bullpups. I tell all my friends looking at them to get a set up ar15 first. Most widely and common weapon. Manual of arms is simple and common sense. Bullpups in my opinion are cool and fun. Once u get used to them I recommend them over AR's. Nothing beats a full 16in Barrel in a compact package imo.
"Starship Troopers" is one of the best military scifi books ever written. The movie didn't do it justice. Heinlein's other great book is "Citizen of the galaxy".
I've told so many people that mention the movie to read the book. They're not even in the same league. Always kept a copy with me in my ruck to read or pass around since it's small in size and a quick read. And to this day, it's one of my standard gifts to new enlistment of friends & family.

Croatians are in general taller/bigger people so we have a lot longer limbs. M57 TT pistol has a longer grip than any other, just for the sake of comfort
I'm 5 foot 6, with "manlet" hands, and I have an M57 with a Croatia stamping. The M57 is made by Zastava, based out of Serbia, and the grip fits me perfectly fine. The grip on the original TT-33 was simply too short, and the M57 mags can carry an extra round due to the increased length. Using the M57 grip length as evidence of Croatian height seems a pretty ridiculous example, especially considering the M57 has a surprisingly slender grip compared to most modern, double-stacked handguns, with a standard length grip for a full size handgun.

The trigger is honestly not that bad. I've got an Mdrx, a tavor 7, and a couple of kel techs. Its better than most of them. (Tavor does beat it tho) The gun is INCREDIBLY fun to shoot. I enjoy taking it to the range more than my SAINT (Something I NEVER thought I'd say about any gun). It takes to having a can very well as well. Its THE most accurate of my bull pups at 250yrds+ I've had very few issue with jamming. 1 thing tho: I don't recommend low power ammo.

I couldn't get over the pinch bolt release and Trigger pull on the vhs. I have played with the x95, keltec, and Aug and still prefer the x95. Personal experience only. Good video!
Kind of surprised he didn't really touch on the iron sights. They're some of the best factory irons I've seen in a long time. They're great stand alone sights, not just a backup after thought. Spring loaded, steel, adjustable without just your fingers for windage and elevation with presets from 0 to 500 meters. Front sight comes to a precise point too.
The problem with the safety and the grip is thanks to Springfield, that for some dumb reason decided that they couldn't have a non-AR grip in "their" "new" gun so they threw the original grip away (probably to fill their changes quota to be able import it) messing with the whole ergonomics of the gun.

That "dumb reason" is because you can't import a weapon like this with a protruding pistol grip due to the import ban, because it doesn't pass the "sporting purpose" test with the grip attached.
Great review, i am using VHS-2 for many years now, i was deployed to Afghanistan with this rifle, fired god knows how many rounds out of it, and all you said was just right, one more thing, none of you are mentioning its "forward assist", or as we like to call it "silent reload button"

Remember when everyone was complaining about the CZ Scorpion EVO's safety? HB Industries made an AK-style safety (their name for it, not mine) that was essentially a front-facing lever kinda like the Five-seveN. When it's on safe, the lever is down by the trigger so you'll know it's on safe right away. On fire, it's out of the way and points forward. That safety would be almost perfect for this rifle.
My grandma used to take me to the video rental store next to her favorite fabric and sewing store when I was a little boy. She had a beta max player…. I have very little time with an AR and so I found the erganomics to be just fine I like working under my armpit for the magazine release and the bolt release and I Found the safety very intuitive and reachable with my thumb. Push for safe, pull for shoot. It was fun to shoot and After a couple 100 rounds the trigger seemed just fine. I just really liked it
Croatians and Serbians, especially ones from the Dinaric alps, are some of the tallest people in the world. I’m 6’7 and whenever I visit Serbia I feel average. So that longer stock makes perfect sense if the gun is being used by Croatians. And yes as Balkans, war crimes is all we know and all we do

Left or right ejection 9. Mud , water, ice , sand torture test. 10. UCT Coating.

The most important part about reloading the vhs is making sure to rewind the mag before you take it out
They make a stand alone high speed winder to put on your shelf for that, just pop it in there when you’re done.

Yup, handled one with stock grip (it does put your hand a bit more back), was more comfortable than what it looks like here.
It’s because of Import laws. Rifles need to be made with a certain amount of US made parts.
Since many want to magpul everything sometimes that messes up things. That seems to be a trend like does it take Glock mags concept.

It was copied on it as the Croats wanted to gain the French contract for replacement weapon of the FAMAS as France previous leaders took the decision to destroy the manufacturing facilities of assault weapons in France because they feared workers from the factories would give weapons to a French revolt.

Our WHS is a solid rifle, I've used it and it takes time to get used to after using an AK-47. There are no bad weapons, but there are bad shooters. Even policemen in America carry the Croatian HS 2000 (you call that pistol the springfield HD)

I tried it yesterday. It felt great in the hand.. 16" barrel in that short package, reliable, accurate. The manual of arms can definitely be trained and the trigger was much better than i expected; certainly acceptable but of course, nothing compared to the Geisele.. obviously (it's a bullpup with a totally different Purpose Of Use). It's A LOT of gun (battle proven) for the money. As a bodyguard, it makes a ton of sense for me. Would also pair great with the Kahles 3G 1-8 which was designed for CQB.
My only wish would be a .300 blackout conversion.
I bought one of these after owning several AR platform guns. I have been impressed with the overall reliability and build quality after about 2000 rounds. It is an unconventional layout but, man is it compact and fun to shoot. The trigger is just as he describes and a bit of warning...if you are planning on using it on the same range day as your AR, shoot the AR first or take a minute to recalibrate your trigger finger because your Timney 2.5 lb pull might surprise you.
Great Starship Troopers reference at the beginning! the gun definitely gives off the vibes of being from that series.

F2000 is better
I own one of the domestically rehomed ones and I really like it a lot. A bit big next to my RDB and Tavor but so user friendly. The adjustable stock helps me get my melon down low enough to use the iron sights. Normal-headed people may not have that issue but I appreciate SA taking my enormous melon into account.
Bolt release is actually very well made, but most people don't know how to operate it. When you pushing full mag into the rifle, hold it with palm but not thumb. thumb is to push bolt release.
I just don't get why Springfield feels the need to rename things that already had perfectly good names. The HS2000 didn't need a name change and this didn't either.
HS is the company that designed it, so calling it the Springfield HS2000 would make no sense. Edit - doesn't apply to the VHS - I didn't realize.

Just today we had 30th aniversary of military operation Maslenica. There was demonstration of arms in use by Croatian army. It was first time I was holding HS VHS2 in diferent variants. It is amazing. Military stuff demonstrated dismantling and told me that it is awesome even after few thousend of shots.

16:35 - You've undoubtedly got more experience than I, but those seem like good reasons to have it as a first rifle. If you're not coming from an AR platform, you don't have the training bias that comes with that ergonomic setup. And in my experience, it's easier to learn on a crappy trigger and then appreciate the difference and shoot better with a good one than it is to regress from a nice trigger to a crappy one and not absolutely hate it. I appreciate a nice trigger as much as anyone, and probably more, because I came up on a bullpup.

I think what's most important is how cool you look when using it.
Recently bought a hellion, and for someone with long arms, it's really pretty comfortable. I'm running it with an epsilon 556 muzzle device, and despite having a respectable amount of muzzle blast and is essentially acting as a loudencer, it makes it so that it has next to no recoil or muzzle climb for a 5.56. The trigger is definitely a bullpup trigger, but overall pretty good. The best part about it though is just how good it looks. It's such a great looking design imo, though I'll admit I have a definite bullpup bias.
I love that Springfield, the fudd staple company is bringing in more “tactical” weapons.

I love bullpups. I tell all my friends looking at them to get a set up ar15 first. Most widely and common weapon. Manual of arms is simple and common sense. Bullpups in my opinion are cool and fun. Once u get used to them I recommend them over AR's. Nothing beats a full 16in Barrel in a compact package imo.
"Starship Troopers" is one of the best military scifi books ever written. The movie didn't do it justice. Heinlein's other great book is "Citizen of the galaxy".

Croatians are in general taller/bigger people so we have a lot longer limbs. M57 TT pistol has a longer grip than any other, just for the sake of comfort
my hobbit lop is 12" so, a letter opener has me.
I'm 5 foot 6, with "manlet" hands, and I have an M57 with a Croatia stamping. The M57 is made by Zastava, based out of Serbia, and the grip fits me perfectly fine. The grip on the original TT-33 was simply too short, and the M57 mags can carry an extra round due to the increased length. Using the M57 grip length as evidence of Croatian height seems a pretty ridiculous example, especially considering the M57 has a surprisingly slender grip compared to most modern, double-stacked handguns, with a standard length grip for a full size handgun.

The trigger is honestly not that bad. I've got an Mdrx, a tavor 7, and a couple of kel techs. Its better than most of them. (Tavor does beat it tho)
The gun is INCREDIBLY fun to shoot. I enjoy taking it to the range more than my SAINT (Something I NEVER thought I'd say about any gun).
It takes to having a can very well as well. Its THE most accurate of my bull pups at 250yrds+
I've had very few issue with jamming.
1 thing tho: I don't recommend low power ammo.

As my rifle was FAMAS during my service in French Army(2004-2011), I wanted VHS-2 to replace FAMAS just because I wanted the French service rifle to remain Bullpup style...

I couldn't get over the pinch bolt release and Trigger pull on the vhs. I have played with the x95, keltec, and Aug and still prefer the x95. Personal experience only. Good video!
Kind of surprised he didn't really touch on the iron sights. They're some of the best factory irons I've seen in a long time. They're great stand alone sights, not just a backup after thought. Spring loaded, steel, adjustable without just your fingers for windage and elevation with presets from 0 to 500 meters. Front sight comes to a precise point too.
The problem with the safety and the grip is thanks to Springfield, that for some dumb reason decided that they couldn't have a non-AR grip in "their" "new" gun so they threw the original grip away (probably to fill their changes quota to be able import it) messing with the whole ergonomics of the gun.
The problem is they designed it for an AR grip with the "beaver tail" instead of a grip like the Magpul MOE-K which does not have the beaver tail.
@@prototype3a Im curious if it was a design choice or if it was simply a loophole to get it imported, since it would have come in without a pistol grip at all.
@@foughtwolf I suspect it was partially for 922r and also partially because SA is dumb.
That "dumb reason" is because you can't import a weapon like this with a protruding pistol grip due to the import ban, because it doesn't pass the "sporting purpose" test with the grip attached.
Great review, i am using VHS-2 for many years now, i was deployed to Afghanistan with this rifle, fired god knows how many rounds out of it, and all you said was just right, one more thing, none of you are mentioning its "forward assist", or as we like to call it "silent reload button"

06:30 the butt - grip distance is big for a reason for a Croatian made rifle. Croats are some of the tallest creatures on Earth, 6 feet 4 inches are an " entry level " , with 6 feet 6 inches almost the norm, and with 6 feet 8 inches being not rare. And with body length come long arms
I got one, upgraded the safety, flared magwell, mag button and bolt release nipple. Also swapped the grip. I love it, would recommend.

Remember when everyone was complaining about the CZ Scorpion EVO's safety? HB Industries made an AK-style safety (their name for it, not mine) that was essentially a front-facing lever kinda like the Five-seveN. When it's on safe, the lever is down by the trigger so you'll know it's on safe right away. On fire, it's out of the way and points forward. That safety would be almost perfect for this rifle.

I have very little time with an AR and so I found the erganomics to be just fine I like working under my armpit for the magazine release and the bolt release and I Found the safety very intuitive and reachable with my thumb. Push for safe, pull for shoot. It was fun to shoot and After a couple 100 rounds the trigger seemed just fine. I just really liked it

Left or right ejection 9. Mud , water, ice , sand torture test. 10. UCT Coating.

I would honestly disagree. 3 Inches isn't make or break, it's more like average. You might even say it's a little big, uncomfortably big you know?
