The best comparison is the 9 x 19mm HK- MP-5SD commonly used in the past by spec Ops units. Often for hostage rescue. The 300BO excedes 9mm by far. Rattler is one of the best compact 300BO platforms. 300BO has become an unofficial standard which makes guns, options and ammo available. And compatible with AR-15 platforms. There are other alternatives, but not so commonly available. The 300BO hits the sweet spot with AR compatibility, with sub and super performance. Longer weapons can improve performance. Excellent dad advice in this one man. I taught my 7 yo ab taxes a couple weeks ago. Wife did not appreciate him at the store with her after we had our "lesson" and him saying to her and the cashier that "taxes are dumb and the government is stealing from us". I was honestly impressed that he listened.
Did you tell him that the taxes also go to his school and the roads? And the military you probably worship or worked for? Sales tax is from your state, so maybe vote. Jfc.

I looked at a Rattler, with the long handguard that partially surrounds the suppressor, it was $2700 a couple of years ago. The dealer then brought out a Q Honey Badger SBR for $1700. Even if the price were the same, I chose the Honey Badger because it was very light. Don’t get me wrong, the Rattler is very good, but for my needs, being light helps. But there are trade offs as he mentioned. It does get dirty, about the same as any suppressed DI gun. But I don’t seem to get gas blowing in my face at least. It’s a great gun to shoot. I really like how GT has set up his Rattler though. Might make changes to my Honey Badger. Running a Trash Panda, Magpul stubby fire grip and a Trijicon MOR on a reptilian mount.
Naive question from a Brit... but isn't this a very short barrel rifle (under 16 inch) and therefore require registering with the ATF under the NFA? Plus the suppressor too? Does that make it harder to own?
@@guitarpaul3645SBRs take a little more work up front and any time you cross state lines with one, but pistols with stabilizing braces don't (hence why they got so common and the ATF is onto bullshit about them, they were an effective work around to the NFA). Why is everyone calling it a caliber? It’s a 30 caliber same as a 300 Weatherby magnum, 300 black out is a cartridge, a cartridge that happens to be in by far the most popular caliber in the US as it includes the 30-30, 308, 30-06, and many others.
@@IncredulousIndividual lol, what defines the need? Mind you the need doesn’t have to be justified. Shall not be infringed. On this note however, if you ever handled both you would understand how beneficial lobbing even just 5 inches off the barrel is. Additionally, the equivalent length in .300 blackout provides a very effective defensive tool with regard to both effectiveness as well as the safety of those around and beyond the intended target in a defensive scenario.
Nice overview on an often overlooked platform that has 'game'. I'm 5 years into a suppressed and SBR'd rattler and its performed beyond expectations. Perfect platform as a home defense PCC with some real fighting range with the super's; scary quiet with the subs. APC9s, Scorpions, AR9's, and MP5's are great but this platform up's the ante quite a bit. Just a more effective system anyway you cut it. If something goes bump in the night, this is the weapon of choice.
With 300 Blk, I set my zero for 20 yards. When I load sub, I am within 5 inches of point of aim up or down until almost 100 yards. With my 130 gr varmint bullets, it is almost 200 yards for the same zero. For the 85 gr bullets, it is almost 300 yards. Bullet trajectories start below point of aim at the muzzle because the sight is above it. Then it rises to point of aim at whatever you decide, goes up above the line of sight until it crests and starts to come back down. It crosses the far zero point and keeps heading down below.
I'd love to see a comparison on the Maxim PDX, HoneyBadger, and the Rattler. I've got 2 out of the three and have my own opinions, but would love Mike to do a vid on them.
I bought a Daniel Defense PDW last year, it was between the rattler and the PDW. I couldn't find the Rattler in stock anywhere. Happy with my purchase but I still have a place in back of my mind yearning for this little guy. I am thinking once we get out of WA state, I might try to get rid of an AK or two and add a rattler to add to the collection.
I picked up something like this for my wife. Being so short and still in rifle form factor means she is able to be significantly more competent with it for personal defense than a pistol. Try as I might, she's just not as interested in being in tip top training shape. So, this gets her something easier to use and happens to be far more effective anyway in terms of ballistics. I'm trying here! Slowly but surely.
Great review GT, thanks for the specifics on this, I've been thinking about it for a while now. Also, great advice for the dad moment. I also have 4 kids, 3 of which teenagers, and it's difficult teaching them the world is a pos, and we defend our own. Keep it up!
Attempt #2 of getting you guys to find out how many rounds of 22. it takes to get through level IIIA/4 armor with a windbreaker over the plate for added realism. Like before, this is all for science
Sooo... With your AAC ammo, do you have problems with jacket separation inside your suppressors like the rest of us? As much as you shoot, it must happen everyday....
I want a rattler, ddm4, and honey badger they are great guns that I’d kit differently for different purposes. I love the ultralight sort of tube stock on the Daniel defense ddm4 in 300, but I wouldn’t do that same stock on the other ones etc.
Cool to see Mantis a part of this channel now. I want to warn anyone who gets their products- their laser cartridges do not shoot 100% straight out the barrel. You can ONLY use it with their Mantis Laser Training app, so that you can use their digital calibration within the app to tell it where you are aiming and where the red dot actually shows up on their target. Lots of back and forth with their customer service confirmed this. I tried using their laser cartridge to sight in a new red dot, and quickly realized no matter how I loaded it into the gun, it shoots off center, making using it for anything other than their app completely useless. The good news it the app works wonderful, lots of different targets and ways the app knows which targets are being used is super cool, but dont expect to be able to use the laser cartridge for anything else than their app!

You’ve had some great long range guys in the past. I’d love to see more content on that. Specifically about caliber selection for serious use and realistic practical ranges for common calibers.
