  • 2000-2006 Toyota tundra front Coilovers on a 2001 Tacoma. Sean created a discount code for you guys! "UNDERBUDGET" should give you $25 off : )
This isn't a new idea, but Its not that documented and i really wanted to give this a try. Thinking behind this is these are off the shelf, readily available and well under $1000. Other advantages for particular use cases is these do not require frequent rebuilds to keep performance compared to something like a set up Kings or similar.

I run OME's 2883 coils and nitro shocks on my first gen with a similar build weight to your truck and more height on the shell so the body roll is even harder on the suspension. They've been a rock solid performer for a few years now and it amazes me how well the truck drives off road and on rough county roads at higher speeds. Purchased them preassembled from wheelers off-road who also helped me with the selection process to arrive at that combo.

Great idea! Tip for the lower eye alignment: Use a tapered punch to align the holes from the other side while you guide the bolt in, works a treat.

Check out the Dobinsons MRA 3-way adjustable shocks. Been running them on my 3rd gen for about two years. No complaints. Being able to quickly adjust high and low-speed compression and rebound for trail conditions is great. They cost more than 6112s, but a lot less than other adjustable shocks on the market. You get a lot of shock for your money.

I need to grab a set of those strut compressors. Every time I use my harbor freight ones my life flashes before my eyes.
Another trick to get that bottom bolt in when it is a little stuck like that is to put your impact on it and wiggle everything around while the bolt is vibrating/spinning.

I have those same spring compressors. Way better than the sketchy all-thread ones, especially if your coils are over 700#. I recommend getting additional, thicker washers than the ones they come with, and lube the threads before use.

You might want to give Accutune Offroad a call. They can custom valve a set of shocks/coilovers for your exact weight and use-case. Another note: Bilstein and Icon use digressive valving, which helps a lot on road and higher speeds off road, however, the small bump compliance can be jarring. And since you want to keep your speeds in the low to mid-range they probably aren't the best match for your application. Something like Fox or Dobinsons IMS/MRR would probably be a better fit as they are linear/progressive, giving much better small-bump compliance.

I end up doing things by myself 99% of the time with no help in sight. To help get the bottom bolt in without any power tools just use your jack to raise the lower control arm into the right position. Was wondering how do things in the rear feel with the extra weight loaded verses unloaded since you built the bed.

I did tundra 6112s on my 4runner and sorta regret not having spent the money up front on the big dollar ones like ADS, King, radflo, fox etc. next setup will be ADS 2.5 with reservoirs and clickers
