- I am typically drawn more to orchestral and acoustic virtual instruments and libraries, but that is starting to change. @CherryAudiovst is a leader in bringing classic and iconic synthesizers to us in virtual form, allowing us to experience them in ways never before possible.
In this quick look, I play through some of the amazing sounds to help give you an idea of some of the possibilities.

I bought this and I can't find my socks because they blew off. It's an animal and a creative weapon. At $59 it's a steal. Well done Cherry Audio. Well done you.
What a wonder demo from Simeon on one of the best synts ever built…and this vst it’s simply fantastic..thank you Simeon
Really authentic 80's sounds there!
the GX80 is my favorite vst at the moment..... love the other Cherry Audio vsts too..... very much quality for your money!
What you have played right there could be a finished solo album. Great stuff.
Thanks so much Kevin, lots of inspiration to be found here. Joyfully!🎹
Discovered this today. Definitely one of the more inspiring reviews of this great vst. Really appreciate your sense of playing for the sound, great job!
Don, welcome to the channel. I really enjoyed discovering Cherry Audio and the GX-80 is a beast of a virtual synth, there is so much in there to explore. Thanks so much for watching and your kind words of support.
Thank you for your review and fine musicianship. When ever I try out a new virtual instrument, I put it thru the paces. I'll compose a piece of music that uses the synth as the more then primary source of sound. Years ago I was at Stevie Wonders studio and saw , what was then called ; the Dream Machine. It was a beast. Although I did not get to play it or use it in the session, I was completely impressed with the sounds I heard on Stevie's recordings and Keith Emerson's explorations on the GX itself ( Fanfare for the Common Man, Pirates and so on).
I own a huge array of virtual instruments from Arturia and various other companies ( to many to name ), and in the synth realm the GX-80 is an outstanding addition to my tool kit. In using it with multiple instances in the two compositions I've used it on, the results were amazing. After owning a multiple of hardware synths in the past to create and produce music, none of them or any software synth I've come across; comes close to the sound this GX-80 soft synth produces in an organic and orchestral way.
In usage, all specific makes and models of synthesizers ( Moog / Arp / Roland / Korg ) has a sound that will differ from each others sonic pallet and give the composer / producer alternative choices to explore in their production or compositions.
Could this actually be the best virtual synth on the market?
It's up there.....
My only caveat would be with Cherry Audio. If you want to give a possible customer a demo to evaluate their instruments for 30 days, lose the pink noise. It's annoying and the truth is, whoever is using it will have a better chance on evaluating the plugin to see if it fits their needs. In this case,, they will probably purchase it.
That said.......Cherry Audio makes great stuff and the GX-80 is an incredible offering at an astounding price.
How interesting to watch your leap into synths! Always pleasure to listen to your playing. It's quite a rabbit hole, that synth world. Have fun!
Thanks for going through those presets. When it comes to the character of this virtual synth, the one word that comes to mind is "majestic"! It produces a sound that is tugs on the heartstrings, but all the while remaining 'classy' and 'composed'!
just got it and added the Lexicon 224 VST and it added even more dimension...just so rich...i have so many good synth VSTs and a few vintage synths but this is impressive ...nice review👍🏻
The great thing about this synth is that nearly every patch can be played from the bottom of the keyboard all the way to the top.
Simeon, besides the fntastic instrument, please allow to say I love your playing. Fantastic voicings! Thank you!
Simeon, thank you so much for this terrific review of the GX-80. It would be great if you could do one more video showcasing the many capabilities of the GX-80 when combined within Plugin Guru's Unify. I know that along with your awesome keyboard skills the result would be one mind blowing video for your subscribers.
Thanks for the review and the fine musical demo. I need this synthesizer. Cherry Audio does an excellent job of emulating various synths, but it seems to have outdone themselves. It will definitely be my next purchase.
just got this and I am amazed at the sounds it produces
Such nice playing, and beautiful music! A very nice way to hear the possibilities of this instrument!
Jeff, and believe me I was barely scratching the surface, this is really a masterpiece of a virtual synthesizer. Thanks so much for watching along with the kind words. Joyfully!🎹
Just picked this up. VERY IMPRESSIVE. :)
Very helpful in process of adding analog soft-synth libs for comparison and learning. You are cool 'influencer' for this GX 80 purchase ! Many thanks for such detailed exploration.
And this is just the beginning! I have been experimenting with some of the U-He synths which are so amazing, as well as various patch libraries for Omnisphere, so look forward to more synthy Joyful Journeys ahead.
Simeon, I think it's great that you've now tested a VSTi synthesizer. This beast sounds fantastic. Thanks very much!
It is so much fun discovering these instruments. Some real magic happens when you combine synths and orchestral samples together. You have to check out the longer video where I dive into the GX-80 a little more. Thanks for watching and for sure there is much more to come. Joyfully!🎹
@@PraiseTracks I totally agree with you!
Awesome playing Simeon!
Analog synths have always been so interesting!
Thanks so much!
what the? wow ..I think ...I have.. to have this ... now!😁 ...on sale ..yes!
I had no intention of buying this as I have the Arturia CS-80 V, which is wonderful, but this made me try the demo and it's just gorgeous!!!
Yep, there is a very nice character to its sound. Thanks so much for watching.
Impressive 👍! Nice playing as well. I try to limit the number of virtual synths I am using but this one looks definitely worth it 👍!
What a synth, just picked it up, was easier than my GX1 lol. What a player to boot, love watching your channel Simeon, oh and you are criminally undersubscribed.
Thanks Gary for the kind encouragement and support. So, you had the hardware version, that would be crazy. Joyfully!🎹
@@PraiseTracks i was only joking my friend, if only lol. But i am positively sure the software version is a little lighter than the hardware its emulating. Got a few old synths but not at that price point.
Just SUB’D to his channel based on your comment … truly it is a crime for u not to have millions of subs…
Thanks Known, much appreciated. Joyfully!
That Mr V lead though... Epic!
Always nice to have the possibility to have a listen to demos before buying. there for thanks. But...the sound quality depends on the DA-conversion that is used to play soft synths. In my case that is Apogee top grade DA's so this synth is a go! Combine that with Lexicon hardware and BAM!
Yes, it is amazing what can be done. Also you can adjust the oversampling to get even more audio mojo out of the GX-80, you just have to be kind to the CPU.
Thanks for watching, I am so glad you enjoyed coming along for the journey. Joyfully!🎹
Many are saying the Arturia CS-80V is more accurate sounding, but I figure you can't go wrong with either one of them.
Arturia's is a lot more expensive.
🔥🔥🔥
3:30 WOW!!! WANT.
I was wondering if you could sometime in the future compare Berlin Strings SFX vs Audio Imperia Constrictor 🙏😎
If they would fix their performance issues that so many users complain about, Cherry Audio plugins would get a lot more mileage. I know people who have had to overclock an extra GHz just to be able to use oversampling. Crazy.
Whatabout on the new APPLE M2 MAC MINI PROS MAXXED OUT VERSION??
Wish it had an Arp panel. Anyone with Cubase tell me what you are using for an arp?
How are you able to show the.. the chords? Is that the GX 80 or another program
I use the MIDICULOUS Pro application from Gospel Musicians. It allows me to float the chord and virtual on screen keyboard display and I then capture these inside of OBS Studio to incorporate them into my different scenes. There is a link in the description to learn more. it is a powerful learning and teaching tool as well. Thanks for watching.
It is a little disconcerting that with (literally) 1000 presets, and all those controls and options, so very much flexibility...
... that all the sounds are so recognisably CS-80 ish. There's an overriding tone that overrides everything the controls do.
(but is this good or bad?)
What controller is displaying chords in real time like that ?
The controller is a Studiologic SL88:Grand but I am using MIDIculous Pro to display the keyboard and chords. I have a link in the description for more details. Joyfully.
Got it😀... This sounds m 80s synths on steroids
Yeah, it’s crazy good, enjoy!
Synth1 is still more ultimate for me 🤠👍
I will have to check that one out. Thanks for watching.
Blade runner maschine
Yes, it is such an amazing virtual synth, I have enjoyed discovering it. Thanks for watching. Joyfully!🎹
I hope that is not a new camera. The video quality on this is as poor as I've seen
It might be that it is still going through the UA-cam process. Let’s hope 🤓
@@PraiseTracks Ya that must have been it. Much better now. Merry Christmas my friend.
A lot of these sounds are so washed out in reverb that it becomes impossible to tell if the sounds themselves are great, average or crap.
That’s a good point. Let me see if I can do a short run through without using the reverb and effects. I had only had this for a short time before bringing it on the channel.
Thanks for the feedback and stay tuned. Joyfully!🎹
Orio, in today’s livestream I did a few tests of some of the GX-80 patches with and without the effects for a comparison. Thanks for the feedback, I hope it is somewhat helpful for you. Joyfully!🎹
typical Cherry Audio...
this VSTi has nothing to do with the original sound of the real synth. only GUI is adapted and ok.
So bad.
And you have a real CS-80 / GX-1 to compare ? 🤔😎😂
Beautiful. I've been looking for something like this.
