It also had plenty of VRAM, 11GB in 2017 was an absolute shit ton. Nvidia now gives its cards just enough VRAM to get by but not enough to last for 4+ years without turning down texture quality.

In the old days, before the empire, there was this notion of competition and free markets, the idea being that if consumers had enough choices then the companies would have to compete on things like price and quality and things like good customer service would happen naturally, without undue government microregulation or legal intervention that suck the lifeblood of commerce and innovation.

As a concrete cutter, just thinking about how intel put in the anchor holes to secure those machines hurts. there is almost no way to contain silica dust to the point that is needed for that intense of a clean room. I could only imagine the amount of plastic/barriers they used to prevent any dust getting into the air system or anything else.

About the only upcoming game I am even interested in is the Indiana Jones game. And that runs on the same engine as the Wolfenstein games and Doom so it should work on older GPUs OK. Sort of like how you didn't need a flagship to play Starfield and it really wouldn't have helped you much anyway (I played it on a 3060 at 1440p and it was fine). There will probably be RT support but I will be surprised if it even supports DLSS3. They've been working on it a lot longer than DLSS3 has been out. Mostly just good for making Cyberpunk playable with the new RT embellishments and path tracing. And really only useful on higher tier GPUs anyway. It is sort of like how they gave the 2050 RT cores but you can't really use them. It has less rasterization performance than a 1650.

well, I can say the recent rumors of the 5090 being 70% faster than the 4090 are 100% BS. TSMC's N3 node is not a major step up above the N4 node that TSMC is currently using for Ada. Nvidia might be able to squeeze out a 30% performance increase if they use defective GA202 die, like they did with the AD102, and Blackwell sees little rasterization improvements.

Scored A 1080ti for $120 last week to replace my 1060 3gb. I play on a 1080p monitor so it's great for me. Hopefully I can get another year of gaming out of my 7 year old build before I completely upgrade.

i still have an evga 1080 (non ti) on my shelf, and i can still put it in any system and it holds it's own. i can also say that for my water cooled evga 2080 super next to it. and i've had my water cooled evga 3080 for 3 years now with no signs of slowing down. basically what i'm saying is I'm gonna miss EVGA and i dunno what i'm gonna do once all of those die.

I think the oldest GPUs I have which actually use the GTX branding are the three 7800GTX cards in my collection.
I'm currently trying to sell a PC with a GTX 1080 so this speculation is not great news. In fact it isn't really news at all.
Kudos to Noctua for continuing to focus on performance, not lighting. I recently discovered that some cheap Thermalright fans actually outperform expensive Lian Li fans. The industry is massively screwed up with regards to their priorities and that is driven by the gaming community and their priorities.

7:28 It's important to note the statement here. They don't want you decompiling using their SDK output. As long as you never use that, there's nothing they can do about it. This is no different than Google getting the middle finger when they tried to shut down Invidious under the same guise and learned the project doesn't really on any piece of Google code or API to work.

And people are going to do it anyway so they aren't fooling anyone. GL trying to enforce that EULA in China, lol. They'd be cutting off their nose to spite their face. I'm surprised at this point that China hasn't just told them to eff off and make their GPUs elsewhere. They are making rapid progress thanks to our embargo. We just lit the fire for them to become self-sufficient in IT. Dumbest strategic move the US has ever made. You keep that in reserve if we end up at war with them. Now we're just totally screwed. We wanted them to be dependent on the US for tech. Could have just built a self destruct into the 4090s and 7900XTXs so that we could brick them at any time.
