This is so incredible! Such a nostalgic, happy mix of precious melancholy. Love this couple and their songs and are my new favorite band hands down. Thanks so much guys for music like this!
Great song! Listened your album, very expressive! Hello from Russia, Samara. Yep, I'm too young to have seen, but there are those who are older, who tells of the times, who teaches. And you teaches too, from your music. Thank you!
Lyrics: We had maps that unfolded Back in my day You could drink from the river We had gods made of clay There were mile-high glaciers No locks on the doors The stars burned brighter We never counted past four The birds were always watching There were monsters in the sea We wore watches on our wrists There were ghosts in the trees Way back in the days You're too young to have seen When the nights were darker Longer and deep There was no time or space When I was growing up We had summer all winter The moon rose with the sun And music sounded better We recorded on rings of ice And as the songs turned to water We couldn't help but cry Way back in the good days The ones you didn't see When everything was better Darker and deep From genius
I can't believe how long ago I first heard "my sister's tiny hand". I bought that album the same day! Your lyrics are so great and you are both still so great! 2016 need this music!
very nice to see the band answers to the fans. hello from brazil handsome. say hello to your wife. love the music. sorry for the suffered english. tchau
I think often when people say 'back in my day' they talk about a time before they had to be responsible a time when things kept more in control and there was always a future on the horizon many people are privileged to be blinded to war and terror to the hardship of the world for many there was never a 'a better time' long before i was born there was public information films teaching people what to do in a nuclear attack.
Great song. But I'm old enough to remember. Nostalgia through rose colored glasses. Of course, things are worse today, but the phony ass American dream machine was in full operational mode even back in the day.
Yea but back in the 50s and 60s before credit scores even a high school drop out could get a business loan and become a millionaire. Both of my grandfathers did, they each dropped out of school their senior year to serve in the Korean War, and after they got back they each went down to the town bank and got business loans. One of them joined the army and after Korea got a business loan and bought up farm land and added to it each year, eventually acquiring 200,000 acres before he died in early 2008, and my other grandpa joined the marines and afterwards started a construction company that is still operating today in 3 states, being ran by my uncle.
Love how they just throw nonsensical falsehoods in this song, lol….like that ghosts were in trees, sea monsters were actually real, time and space didn’t exist and summer lasted till the end of winter lol.
I love the music, but the videos seem to parody itself. I'm enjoying it and then, the singer shows up holding a natural light can, and I am thinking "oh God, what is this bullshit, another celebrity pushing politics down my fucking throat?" I'm sorry, but I'm kind of sick of the artistic crap. It takes away from the narrative of the song for me. The music is still good, I just wanna loose the apologetic hipster, who no doubt has an "opinion" on current politics.
There are so many life stories that people of past 2-3 generations will never know, let 'alone', understand!

Why aren't their millions of views on this... Well worth it....
Honestly don't know. Even I wouldn't be here if True Detective hadn't introduced me to this band.
Way back in the good days, the ones you didn't see. Brilliant duo.
When everything was better, darker and deep... oohhh boy this ones a hard hitter. Chills up and down my body!
This is a brilliant song!
as an aging man that has seen many moons, this ditty hits hard.
I agree I felt every mile as this played……..
Yes it does.
Leave it to them.. we had heaven on this earth. They will never know. .
@@jimstafford2832 You do know that they are taking the piss out of nostalgia don't you. The lyrics seem to have missed with some commentors here.

A beautiful homage to the human race and our history. Thank you Handsome Family!
I felt every mile as this played.
Timeless... when the nights were dark... darker indeed. I feel it has double meaning.
I feel my heart break listening to this song
Lyrics is like an onion,It makes me cry.
Something that I always think about."Back in my day"
Lyrics:
We had maps that unfolded
Back in my day
You could drink from the river
We had gods made of clay
There were mile-high glaciers
No locks on the doors
The stars burned brighter
We never counted past four
The birds were always watching
There were monsters in the sea
We wore watches on our wrists
There were ghosts in the trees
Way back in the days
You're too young to have seen
When the nights were darker
Longer and deep
There was no time or space
When I was growing up
We had summer all winter
The moon rose with the sun
And music sounded better
We recorded on rings of ice
And as the songs turned to water
We couldn't help but cry
Way back in the good days
The ones you didn't see
When everything was better
Darker and deep
From genius
Merci pour les paroles.

Nostalgia! Back in those good old days!
It is basically making fun of that concept pretty hard.

It takes a skilled cinematographer to shoot with Natural Light.
a song for the times
awesome, song and film both
This song makes me miss the Western Interior Sea.
This song remind me of Willard Grant Conspiracy.

Woah! Somethin' outta nothin.'
How so? Do you mean that you don't like the video itself or just the guy in the strange outfit with the beer can?
