    ok ok ok ok.....so Simply Applique is looking better and better every time you mention it. I also need a scan-n-cut. Ekkk! But with them, are you saying that I can take any outline drawing, scan it in and the program will "digitize" it for me and the scan n cut will cut if for me???!! Wow!

      YEP! You got it! It does need simple drawings like coloring book pages, but that's usually what applique projects are made from. :)

    I never pre-washed my quilt fabric as I really love to make the entire quilt and then throw it in the wash and it shrinks a bit and creates that beautiful vintage crinkly look that I love. But if you don't want that crinkly look yes. Pre-wash. Oh and I always throw a color catcher in when I wash my quilts. And I agree with you Becky especially with reds.

    I am a crazy chicken lady (I currently have 10 hens :-) ) and love the chicken quilt! And the 'chicken feet' fabric for the background is totally adorable! I hope I can get one of those fabulous ruler racks in the future, but I completely understand his feelings on the 'obligation' that pre-orders would create. I'm not doing the Kimberbell toppers (w-a-y too many other projects in the works, lol) , but I do like seeing them :-)

    I found this fabric precuts washing hack several years ago. I use a Salad Spinner; fill it with soapy water; drop in several precut pieces..10” squares, 5” squares, 2 1/2” strips, or fat quarters. Fill only a few pieces at a time and Spin the fabric. Remove and rinse washed pieces; soak dark colors in vinegar and rinse again; then Drape over a dryer rack over night or until pieces are dry. This seems to work fairly well without too much raveling.

    Whether to prewash or not is such a debate among quilters. I've been quilting since 1976, and learned then to prewash fabric. It makes such a difference in the hand of your fabric, and gives somewhat of an insurance against bleeding. Using Synthrapol prevents dye from clinging to fabric, even after the fact.

    With the Kimberbell patterns do they come in an embroidery design that I can do on the embroidery machine. Do I have to have a scan and cut or can I just appliqué on my embroidery machine trimming the appliqué after the stitch down stitch is done. Very curious about Kimberbell. Purchased a book. Not what I was expecting. I am not great at appliqué on my own. I can’t get it perfect and then I dislike it

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 роки тому

      Yes, the CD contains embroidery applique designs that will do all the work for you. These designs are for those who may not have a cutting machine so do the placement stitch, then you'll lay down the applique fabric completely covering the placement stitch, make the tack down stitch, and then trim away the excess fabric from around the outside of the tack down. Then the final satin stitch will happen and completely cover the raw edge for a beautiful finish. If you have a cutting machine, they have svg files on the CD too so you can pre-cut your fabric.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 роки тому +1

      You sure can! You need to know how to find center for each piece in different hoopings. You'd do the snowman body & nose in one hooping and the hat in another. I'd float the project and use a target sticker of some kind to mark center. Yay! Thinking outside the box! However, the watermelon block will have to be resized. It's too big for the single hooping it needs.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 роки тому

      I think that all depends on the capability of the embroidery software. The SNC creates an FCM file that Simply Applique uses to make the 3 applique embroidery files. Yes, most advanced embroidery software can make applique files, but each one is so different, it's a hard question to answer.

      @@janetrankin2939 Embrilliance is a 3rd party software meaning it's not specific to any machine brand and it will save to the format for your Bernina machine. Bernina's software also does not provide free updates but Embrilliance does and you can install Embrilliance on multiple computers with the same license. There are TONS of videos on UA-cam you can watch for free (like mine) where you are shown how to use Embrilliance and the company also has a channel with short how-to UA-cam videos like their Lunchtime Learning series. Embrilliance Essentials will do basically everything you need to do and then some. For $169, you simply can't go wrong. If you ever decide you're ready to learn how to digitize designs, then you can buy Embrilliance Stitch Artist. But if you're just doing basics like me to add lettering to projects or edit/merge/resize designs, then Essentials will be perfect for you. bit.ly/3fs0zzN

    Maybe your wool dryer balls ran off with ours that seemed to have run off. What is it with those things???? Luckily we have a local lady who makes them from the llamas she has and sells them at a reasonable price.

      I'm sure there's a dryer ball convention going on somewhere and they are all laughing at us. LOL :-D

    I have embrilliance and Would like to now if Simply Appliqué would work betters for appliqué.

      Embrilliance works great for applique. Simply Applique takes the .fcm file created either by the Brother ScanNCut or the Brother Canvas and turns it into an applique embroidery file.

      @@PowerToolsWithThread I also have a scan and cut. I’m wondering it simply appliqué is less steps and easier to do. Is it more friendly to use then embrilliance.

    I had no idea the shirt you have on isn't one of yours. I purchased one because it says "power tools with thread" so I thought it was one you were selling. If you don't want me to wear it I absolutely will not. I wouldn't want to do anything to devalue your trade mark. Please just let me know, if you get a chance. Thanks

      Girl, you WEAR that shirt! I mean, I wear mine right? I do have my own shirts I sell on our store site, but wearing a different one in my sewing room is no big deal. Small potatoes. :)
