It's a little unfair to equate Pete speaking Spanish with Beto doing it. Beto launched into it immediately and unprompted and it came off as pandering. Pete was spoken to in Spanish by the moderator, so he responded in Spanish.
i remember it being the other way around
@@f.u.c8308 It wasn't. Jose from Unidad greeted him and Pete responded. That was it.
BadScientist he also had a better accent and better grammar than Beto!
I agree although I feel the moderator was trying to bait him. He wouldn’t address anyone else in Spanish. Pete handled it well by switching quickly to English and not using Spanish again later.
@Emily Herrera Yeah, that was my impression too, but I didn't want to weigh in on that since I'm not a native or even fluent Spanish speaker.
tbf to yang, he did excellently answer that question after he heard it
Yang never gets good coverage man, they muted his mic.
And Colbert has had him on the show and knows the answer.
@@malditapeppas509 You shouldn't base your vote on rhetoric. Pete Buttigieg speaks well, but don't get fooled by it. Look up the politicians' records and you will find out that Bernie Sanders is the real deal.
@@malditapeppas509 Jimmy Carter is still alive and kicking. Stop using Bernie's age as an excuse to ignore the fact that he would be ten times the president that any of these other people would be, including Kamala.

They should have finished by thanking Bernie for their policy ideas and platforms🤷🏽♀️
Mahsa Dehghan amen 🙌🏼
Yeah, and Colbert and others should point out where these new, popular policy ideas that most still laughed at in 2016 originated. It certainly wasnt the corporate establishment center of Biden or Harris...

Politics as entertainment. These are potential leaders of the country but are treated like contestants on the bachelor/ette. Man i burned you good, i should be president. He's not making fun of 'the whole' circus tho. He's pushing hard for the black lady
@@nikanarami4852 he's only doing that because she was clearly the winner of the debate. He would've done it if Pete or Sanders or whoever won.
Alicia lol clearly trump won that debate.

I didn't know Kamala Harris's mom was a writer at LSSC.
Haha haha! Good one. Seriously.
Hey, Kamala, Do you agree today that it was wrong to jail and fine single poor moms for her truant kids? Did that help lift up those folks?
There were many programs put in place for help and assistance for truant kids and their parents. They were heavily used.
No parent was jailed, the average fine was $100.
@@barkYdarkATFB Mercy is what the poor need. Not $100 fines they absolutely cannot afford. Not to mention, time spent in court when they have to take off from work to comply. Like most "ideas" for solving issues poverty causes, this was another bad one.
@Nancy Baker it happens in many places. It was not her idea.
The parents got help, the kids got to school. Sometimes you need something to shake up complacency or expose a problem.
Not every truancy problem was a poor helpless person trying their best. Sometimes parents need to be made to care, even if it’s only caring about staying out of trouble. It was never just a fine for a first offense, all instances were monitored for improvement.
The ones that needed help, got help.
But still, no one was jailed, average fine was $100...and they had to miss 50 days for even that to happen.
Here in Texas an employee of mine said her parents were facing a $500 fine because she was missing school. She thought it was funny because they were unaware she had missed any at all. She had it all rigged with telephone numbers and email...until they found out.
It exposed a problem, not only a deceiving kid, but uninvolved parents. They had to work with counselors and a mentoring program.
She graduated, and came back to work with me while taking college classes.
They didn’t have to pay a fine as long as they stayed involved with the programs put in place to help.
And it worked.
@@barkYdarkATFB "Sometimes you need something to shake up complacency or expose a problem. " I'm not going to disagree with your statement. I do think it is sad that she chose to publicly brag about (her) setting this program up to address this issue. Most failing schools are those in impoverished areas. Therefore, poverty may be at the heart of this. Making the poor even poorer just does not seem to be the answer. So, In Texas, someone you know of didn't have to pay their $500 fine. How many didn't get that privledge? Anyway, arguing over this one issue may not lead to any progress. Knowing that compassion to those earning below poverty level income is real and it is wrong and Bernie is absolutely right. In the wealthiest nation on earth, no American should be living in povety. Let someone at the helm who has cried loud and long his entire career to bring economic justice to all working people. Love what he has already accomplished in his shaming of the billionaires McDonalds and Amazon. That is a much more savory idea to me and millions like me who agree that the problem is at the top, not the bottom. Thanks for the exchange. I hear that you are trying to speak out for the accomplishments of Kamala and I don't mean to demean her. It's just that, while she may be smart, she's no Bernie.
@Nancy Baker I’m actually more interested in kids going to school. With no consequences, many kids will not go to school, and the parents won’t care.
If poverty is the problem, a 13 year old that quits school will have no chance to rise up. A 15 year old that’s missing more than 50 days has no chance to graduate, limiting employment.
There are programs in place. That part is missing from the argument. If it’s transportation, a parent needing a job, tutoring, after school care, whatever, there is help available.
A single mom not knowing where her kid is because she works two jobs is spinning wheels. Yes it’s hard, but it’s a responsibility. And being offered help, but not taking it has consequences.
This is often why kids resort to selling drugs, robbing, etc. because they have no direction, but want that money. Or this is how kids get involved in random trouble, because they have too much time with no direction.
I know it’s a systemic problem..schools suck, education is pitiful, communities are chaotic. But it really does start with the parent.
Chuck Todd is awful with interviewing I don't know why he was choosen for one of the moderators.

Wow. Great that it's becoming mainstream, but don't forget the guy who has been talking about this HIS ENTIRE CAREER
he has the ideas but I don't think he has concrete plans to execute them. I think that Pete will be better because he has a better plan in terms of what he's going to do and how he's going to fix these issues that Bernie has been talking about for decades. Bernie came up with the ideas, but he needs to ensure that they are feasible and can actually be carried out. free college for everyone isn't possible if we want a healthy (public) higher education system. Pete knows this, so he took Bernie's idea and modified it to make it better. Bernie is an OG on these progressive ideas, but we need someone to execute these ideas in a way that won't destroy the country.
Ava Sanders Buttigieg hasn't explained or properly unveiled any plans to do anything, he's just another Obama. He's great at talking a lot while saying nothing. We need somebody who has a history of championing progressive ideas and Bernie has done that, as WELL as having plans to pay for it all. @@avasanders3354 - _"he has the ideas but I don't think he has concrete plans to execute them."_ So what? As President you have a whole cabinet and numerous agencies and departments at your disposal to figure the concrete plans out.
That's exactly why that budget question to Harris was so unfair. Why that question is always unfair. There's an entire department in the government who's job it is to figure out budgets. The person coming up with the plan doesn't have to be some sort of genius economist and accountant that already figured and calculated every single thing out beforehand.

I think Bernie is still the best choice personally, but I'm also so happy that so many other frontrunner candidates are adopting those policies and realizing it's what's best for our gteat country. Even if Bernie doesn't make it, Harris, Warren and Buttigieg are going to have amazing careers and all of them are presidential worthy in my book ❤
bridge4 - Do not lose sight of the fact that none of the policies and plans of any candidate can be enacted unless both Houses of Congress have Democratic majorities. The single most important duty in 2020 is to vote for Democrats at every level of government. If you reside in a very blue district/state, then send money to support Democratic candidates in other states.
For states with gerrymandering, use your state's process to get an initiative on the ballet to take redistricting away from politicians and into the control of a non-partisan board that is required to use non-partisan methodologies to redraw state and federal districts. Unless gerrymandering is eliminated, Republicans will continue to elect a greater percentage of officials than their percentage of the vote (65-75% of state houses when Democrats constitute 50-55% of those who voted; or 60%+ with 45-50% Democratic voters). The people voting for non-partisan redistricting can in practical effect overturn the blatant partisan decision from the Supreme Court.
Never forget that Democrats must get a majority in the Senate regardless of who is elected president. A Senate majority stops the appointment of the right-wing, Federalist Society candidates to the federal judiciary. Maintaining the House majority and obtaining the majority in the Senate stops nearly all of Trump's corrupt toadies attempts to subvert democracy and the Constitution. Some of those seeking to be the party's nominee for president should be persuaded to run for the Senate because the country would be better served with more Democrats in the Senate.
NOTE: Allowing McConnell to continue as the Majority Leader many even be worse than four more years of Trump.

I believe Sen.Harris is VERY clear that the bogus Trump admin tax cuts will go. Can we stop acting as if the US had more than enough money coming in to pay for many of these necessities-before that loan-sharking debacle?
Well if that's her plan, I would prefer instead of turning the question around to Trump and saying he never explained anything, that she'd simply say that these can be paid for reversing previous tax cuts. She's right for saying that Trump was never called to back up anything he said with fact, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have to. Like I said, I'm not against any of this, but how are we going to pay for it is always an important question. @@fondonteven8241

That style works extremely well in one-on-one but gets out-shouted and out-dramatized in the circus of ten contenders onstage, some with nothing substantive to say but saying it anyway, and some happy to talk on top of whoever is already speaking. The event would have been something closer to an actual debate and more informative, if all the candidates were as thoughtful as Mayor Pete. its great that Kamala Harris is the highlight of this video, but I think we should also give Bernie Sanders a mention as well. He did AMAZING in the debate and without him popularizing all these issues like health care, etc., the 2020 debate would not have been like this at all.
joseph jeon - I agree that Bernie reminded the Democrats of their past when they pushed harder for the common good of the non-rich. But, do not lose sight of the fact that none of the policies and plans of any candidate can be enacted unless both Houses of Congress have Democratic majorities.
