    Thanks for this. Helped me fix my kid's tablet. After buying the part and tearing down the unit, I called a local repair place and asked what they'd charge just to do the soldering work: $60. For a little more than that, I bought my own rework station and did it myself and learned a new skill (except I already knew basic soldering).

      Thanks for the comment 👍 I am glad it helped you. I made the video because I was fixing this for a friends kid and I could not find any good info or videos for this version of the tablet so I figured I would make one.

      @@TheRetroBen So this one has a micro USB port? My new Fire 8 tablet has a type C. Every Fire 7 I`ve had has failed right away because of the charging port no matter how gentle I tried to be. I like them for making simple quick UA-cam videos because they have good sound levels. Hopefully my expensive new Fire 8 will last more than 3 months.

      @@TheRetroBen: You are so stupid, You have to put on the back cover right before you test it out so that you don't break it, did you even ground yourself?

    This is my friend's second Kindle. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.

    Dude I had so much progress in my tablet and out of nowhere it didn’t want to charge and I was sooooo happy that I found a charging port and this video because I would have been so mad if I had to reset all of that progress.

    Awesome video. If possible, quick request…can you add the temps settings of the solder iron, precision soldering iron, and heat gun/pen for the part removal…maybe in the description?

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  Рік тому +1

      I will have to make note of the settings next time I do one lick this. Although my settings may differ a good bit from other equipment. My soldering iron is now a much older model Weller and my hot air tool is actually a cheap Chinese one, although it gets the job done. Thanks for the comment.

    the piece with the capton tape (not sure if spelled correctly), is placed differently and is definitely not as easy as this to pull off, with any of the "ifixit" tools with the version I have. Also, the ribbon cable by the battery, when disconnecting, the lever that pulls up was stuck in place. Any tips on these issues for different models?

    your soldering work is fine and perfect! I want to do it myself but I am not so confident that I can do it myself. I will broke it myself. The most amateur have not enough tools and techniques to solder/unsolder it finely.
    Is there another way to charge the battery without replacing USB jack?
    Thanks! from interested amateur. Shigeru

      It is a liquid flux link here www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2333K5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
      It works pretty well but I would prefer a light paste.

      Soldering flux I would guess. It`s to ensure a good solder/metal connection.

    Bought these just last Xmas for kids and same issue after 5 months only! Shouldn’t they go back for warranty replacement if this common issue?

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  3 роки тому +3

      They may take care of it. In my opinion the connector is just a bad design, I have seen many of these type of connectors fail in different items. The one I repaired in the video was definitely out of any warranty though.

    I got mine installed after a very tedious hour. But mine still isn’t charging, so I’m guessing I may have lifted the solder pads on the circuit when I desolder The old USB port. We know for a fact it was a defective charger port bc you had to hold the wire firmly in it to charge. Then that eventually stopped working. So I get excited thinking I got it fixed for my daughter and it still won’t charge. Do you have a email address I can contact you and possibly send mine out to you to fix? I will pay a repair fee for your time.

    mine lasted 3.5 years. Bought it for $50.. I'm wondering if I should try to fix it. The heat gun and parts would cost me about $35 ..

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  3 роки тому +2

      You don't have to use the hot air tool it can be de-soldered with an iron and de-soldering braid, or flood solder on all the pins to get it loose and lift it off carefully.

    3rd screw lose here too. I am thinking of installing a usb-c port. Has anyone got an idea for a spare part which would fit in here?
