Trying to FIX: Water Damaged Amazon Fire Tablet
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Hi, in this 'trying to fix' video I attempt to repair a faulty Amazon Fire Tablet. It is stuck in a boot loop after it was water damaged.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks, Vince.
My guess for your boot problem is a faulty battery.....the battery reports a fault, preventing the device booting....if you disconnect the battery and start it, then reattach the battery you bypass the battery check....nice vid as always vince
Yes, that would make sense... most batteries nowadays have a separate channel that communicates with the main board (example being the Switch battery and its gray wire).
Vince, you should probably see if you can get a spare battery for it.
This is why it's always nice to have two devices, one that's faulty and one that's working properly.
Kind of late to the party but I do think there could have been some corrosion on the smart chip on the battery.
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Zeke Bryce Instablaster :)
4:25 Welcome back classic Vince lol.
It’s gonna be a good August... 😌
comedy gold
Haha
My gf told me she watches the quick version of Vince's videos. We don't date anymore.
+1 that she watches Vince's videos too though.
Real legends watch the full version and then the quick version
heresy!
real legends watch full version .
😆😆😆😆😆
You're spoiling us again with all these vids! Shame it couldn't be repaired, but you learnt from this for sure. Those ribbons are a pain, you've got to be so careful with them - just looking at them wrong causes them to break lol. As a few others have said - battery can cause wierd power on issues like you are getting. I've had that too on a tablet (will be uploading the vid soon) - in that case it was just the micro USB port that was the issue.
Cheers Chris. I didn't think that the battery could have been the issue at the time of filming. I am annoyed I didn't peel a bit of it open to see if the protection board was corroded. I definitely caused the majority of damage on this one but luckily it didn't cost much :-)
Vince if I've never heard laughed my heart out.. But when you creaked the screen... I couldn't hold it in... Love your videos the is teaching in them
"If it ain't broke yet, Vince will keep fixing it until it is!" You can have that one for your new T shirt collection. Nearly choked on me cornflakes when you totaled the screen. Epic!
Hej Vince! I'm from Sweden and hope you can read between my bad spelling. Your battery chip is burned but if you fit an switch on the back of your case it won't be a problem, the chip is there for measuring heat and moisture and will fail if it's been wet. By you restarting it every time you will have it work. Thank for another good video!
I thought it might be some kind of tempreture ic
Thumbs up for the classic Vince start !
Thanks for asking alexa to give you the weather in Australia Vince, i nearly had a heart attack when my alexa at full volume started giving me the current weather in Australia !!!!!!!!! lol
Forgot i left my alexa on full volume, anyway loved the video as always and i'm still impressed with the patience you have, regards :)
why you would do that what the fuck
Haha when you asked Alexa for the weather in Sydney, you set my Amazon Echo off lol. Good video Vince, as always
Thank you. You are a life saver. My 2 year old got his wet and thanks to you I saved it.
You’ve got a 100 times more patience than me!👍👍👍
I'm always impressed by your troubleshooting skills. You always are saying you don't know much about this or that but your troubleshooting methods are top-notch. I love watching these until the end and I hope you keep them coming.
pure perseverance , always nice to watch it.
Yes, methodical fault-finding is an underappreciated skill. My wife is very adept at it ...
An interesting watch as always. Your soldering skills have come on a treat over the last few months as well.
Glad to see you're back from your hol's and uploading again, looking forward to the vid :)
Man...that hurt watching you pull on the screen with the suction cup. When I first opened a Fire 7 a few months ago (was trying to fix 3 that weren't charging anymore for one of my sisters-in-law), I had tried using heat first, thinking it was an adhesive seal, but figured out after trying to pry up the screen that there were clips like the old iPod Video (5th gen iPod). I used a metal pry tool to get down far enough to pop the clips, and all was good after that. I was able to fix the micro USB connectors by bending the individual contacts down so they would be closer to the board, then used the heat gun to reflow them. First time ever attempting to repair a micro USB connector, and got my confidence to try it from your videos, Vince 😃.
Keep uploading the long versions! - Those are definitely the best! - oh, and get that fire fixed!
Hey Vince, love your videos. But i must be honest i mostly enjoy your PS3, PS 4, xbox console repair videos. The results are most satisfiing.
I love how you thought you were clever using the sucker
Then you became one
Hahaha comedy gold
Class as always Vince
Watching the longer version to help you with the youtube algorithm.
UA-cam doesn't like long videos, it doesn't matter how many times you watch it, it will still prioritise 10-15 min videos over 30+ videos.
Yess a long video can’t wait thanks now imma be happy until 11
Wow. I am using my 4th tablet by Amazon to watch your videos.
I'm thinking of starting a UA-cam channel along similar lines to yours. The difference being mine would probably be "Dave tries to fix broken things off eBay, fails, loses his temper and smashes it to bits in a variety of ways"
I'd watch.
Sounds like me reassembling a PS2 controller
you can buy the digitiser glass of ebay for about 11 pounds vince
You literally are the bestest person to make these sort of videos. I've loved every single one of them
Most of the time he's so admirably patient , but then sometimes he seems to be a bit in a hurry ;)
A "Classic Vince Move", hilarious (ROFL)
Thx for the incredible video! So I knew I am not crazy. Mine one has the same problem. (I dropped it once, nothing to do with water damage) Everything looks ok except touch screen - still not moving. I followed every steps and digital looks ok (nothing torn apart) battery is good too. I had to give up that welding / cleaning part) since I do not have that tool. Eventually I put everything back in shape but good to learn more and hope I can still fix it someday ;)
Watching vince feels like being at the doctors. In a good way lol
"It's never the coil" to quote Jessa Jones (at least most of the time. it should measure almost 0 ohms if you test it) it is more likely to be the corrosion on the components nearby the coil not creating the right feedback to allow the brightness to go higher. you should put the board in your ultrasonic cleaner as it will do a better job than just IPA and get to places where your brush can't.
Cheers for the video helped a lot, felt bad for you when the screen cracked. I know that feeling 😕 !
Thanks, I now know the weather in Australia from my Amazon Dot. lol.
same here

Dear Vince ... this is blind shot but .. maybe is auto brightness on, and fire is thinking that is dark (light sensor not working or covered ?) ... Tnx for great content !
As far as I can see, it's Android based, and when it starts up it usually sets brightness to 100% no matter the state of the sensor. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I've seen so far
@@AlexKiraly True...
Vince could it be a chip on the battery , have you tried using your other battery in it ?
Different models I'm afraid mate
Ordinary Musician oh I see , I was just wondering if it was something on the battery side that wasn’t talking to the motherboard
@mymatevince I'm 99.98 percent positive the battery needs to be replaced. Had the exact same issue with LG phones bootlooping etc. when battery is damaged. Between that, a new digitizer, screen, and sorting out the brightness issue; you'd be better off using it for spares. However, I'd still love to see you repair it. Cheers mate!
When are you gonna get a work bench or a table?
Don't feel bad about cracking the screen. My Fire tablet screen got cracked while it was in the "official" Amazon case and it was only dropped onto dirt. The screens in those tablets are super delicate and in my model at least, the whole cracked area stopped responding to touches. They use crap glass, and crap digitizers. Glare at them and they break.
I Love these Long Version Videos. Go ahead Vince . Nice that you are Back and i hope u had a nice holiday :D
YAY! Vince is back!!
Wow that was weird I can’t believe that Amazon tablet is completely not working yeah probably have to take it out and see what’s going on with it I hope you can fix it

@UCLOV8DV2jv507e8PgcHJ_1Q
Excellent👍 Yeah I couldn't believe how easily it cracked. I thought it would take a lot more force. I was thinking it might be the same as an iPhone where the screen lifts up from the body but I was definitely wrong!! 😁
Vince I wish you would do videos on faulty drones or something like that
First thing I would do to a water damaged gadget is to remove battery, dismantle the gadget, clean the corrosion if any, and dry the the board with a hair dryer or do some hot air rework on the major chips and component. When I'm sure that everything moist dried up and cleaned then that's the time I would apply power and try troubleshooting the problem.
Good to see you back vince hope hols were good 🙂
From where did you buy your blue silicone pad? Thanks for the video.
battery may be bad, the battery might not charge properly, check transistors near the charging port if there's any.
You can try hooking it up with an external power supply, and see if it's booting from the power button
shorting pins 1&4 on the usb port=fastboot? Might have to try that on my prepaid android phones, those things are extremely locked down.
Hello, Vince!
Don't give up on it! The things that need fixing are very simple to repair (for you). The system isn't booting up because the battery may be dead, the protections chips ARE fried. I've seen from other comments that there is an initial battery check on bootup, and because the battery is dead, you have to skip the process by removing the battery and plugging it back in. The solution: *get a new battery*.
The second fault (sorry mate, this one's your fault)
Because you cracked the digitizer, It doesn't work anymore. Mate, get a new one. I have seen your video once where you did indeed actually remove the screen from a Nintendo Switch and it still worked, so I have hope in you that you can at the very least get the digitizer to work. It's just glue, nothing else!
I wouldn't hesitate to do those repairs on my own if I got such an amazing deal on it.
I have found a battery for the tablet here: www.batteryforpc.co.uk/amazon-battery-26S1014-p1776666.htm it's 20 pounds. + 19? pounds for the digitizer 39 pounds? Seems good I guess
Keep in mind that you actually *do not need any chip replacement or anything*!
Can you please help me which store 🏬 has a Amazon fire 🔥 7 7th generation model #308594 replacement 🔋. I can not find any Walmart or Target?
vince man you gotta be more careful with these things they are very delicate
Hi Vince,
It wasn't clear in the video if the Fire's battery ever received a full charge?
A while ago my cheap little tablet was caught in a "boot loop".
The problem was a poor connection & charging cable not
putting a full charge on its battery.
No it probably isn’t that causing it my little sisters dropped my moms fire tablet in the bath and It had the same issue as in the video
if you watch the video right around the point where you broke the screen you will notice the low battery indicator on the screen and you actually mention that it made a noise. Perhaps a quick charge was all it needed??
love the colour of this tablet and great video as always
I believe you can use a mouse and keyboard with a fire. You need an adapter for the usb port to allow a mouse but once you are in, you coould use bluetooth to connect.
My kindle short circuited and won't work now what do I do?
Great video again Vince, thanks for saying Alexa in the video and all 8 of my devices went off at midnight whilst my partner is trying to sleep 😂
same here
I get the same when youtubers say "hey google" and my home mini responds :)
Great video Vince.
Vince, there is a specialized tool for opening tabs, and boot loop normally is fixed by flashing the stock rom back to tab.
Just out of interest do you follow any anti static rules, so many boards can be instantly destroyed, even the carpet could charge you up..love the videos by the way.
Did u find anything out on this tablet? I left mine out in the rain overnight on accident.i could see the water inside it and water bubbles in the screen.i used a hair dryer and a heat gun and tried all the "fixes" on here,I looked it over the inside and a broken speaker wire and I snapped off a thin wire clamp,I'm more or less leaning towards buying or trading for another one after 3 days of working on it
Wait, this is the wrong Amazon Fire, I was expecting fire, water and news reports.........
Jokes asside, these videos are great to watch as watching the "pro's" do it without problems can get boring, but watching someone fail and learn from doing so, well, they are LEARNING while showing us it too, meaning we learn too...
And I HATE the fact UA-cam is unsubscribing people still, in 2019!!!!! UA-cam, FIX THIS!!
very interesting and learning diagnosis video and please i thing the power management ned a new ic to be replace and the touched ribon cable.thats is my idea.
Good morning. My Amazon Kindle 7 feel in the water. What is my best option here
Me too my daughter soaked it in water now it won't turn on do you know if amazon can replace it?
Thanks for another interesting video.
„So, im gonna repair this shit!“

Ive got a question if you don’t mind, when you are removing a small chip just like the one that you did in this video, how do you know its correct orientation when you weld it back into the board? Nice informative video 👍
Usually there is a dot on the board and on the chip itself to indicate that is pin one.
I was right with you on this one.. hand on head when you cracked the screen.. oh well.. it was a good watch and very interesting..
Vince the firestarter... Twisted firestarter
Hmmm, interesting faults.
You seemed to have found out the brightness issue, just bodge that one with long wire with silicone sleeve so it doesnt short out.
Power issue. Seems that it needs a full discharge to shut down (removing battery). Is a capacitor drawing power when it shouldnt? Maybe the chip on the battery isnt activating until it resets. 1st suggestion would be to try another battery in it as a faulty battery can cause all kinds of issues. 2nd suggestion is buy another fire and make 1 good from 2.
Very good suggestions Emma. I didn't think to check out the battery. I should have known from the water damaged Nintendo Switches the battery could have been the culprit. Nice one :-)
@@Mymatevince are you going to revisit this one? and try a new battery?
Us: What an excellent condition on that tablet.
Vince: let me play with this suction cup doo-dad.
Us: oh lord, no Vince...
Vince: *cracks screen*
Vince: I’m gutt’ed
Good thing it wasn’t the display, though... 😅
Hi. Could you please kindly make a digitizer replacement or tear down video for 2019 Amazon fire hd 10. (9th edition tablet) I can't find it anywhere. I bought a digitizer for broken screen on my daughter's tablet but have no video to follow and take it apart. Please help.
Do we need to change Vince's nickname from the switch killer to the Kindle Killer??
Vince kindly advice.. My ps vita fell inside a bucket of water.. It power on but all buttons are not functioning..
How can I bring it back to life...
All the same was still another good video vince👍🏼
I know how to fix the boot loop you press and hold both the volume and power button for I think 20-30 secs then it will boot into a recovery stage and restore it from there then reboot then your done!
Based on what you were saying around 28:00, could part of the problem booting from battery be the protection circuit on the battery itself going bad? (No idea, just a thought)
What to do if after it falls into the water it stopped charging?
fixing flat flex? Not a chance in hell. That would elevate you to god tier
Hey I changed the circuit for the tablet.but the screen just wont turn on
I live in USA and I was wondering where can I find tools to open that
i missed you VINCE
hey have you done any VCR videos or have you considered doing some?
thanks!
mine after water damage turns on but the touch screen , interface does not work
Got same situation with Xperia X1 - that was bad battery, propably some security chip prevent system to boot.
These tablets are usually garbage and really cheap Vince. Dont stress yourself out about the crack.
i love your video
Where ya been vince? On holiday? There was a gap between video uploads
Yeah he went on holiday. He talks about it in the suitcase fix video
Amazing vid
Just like always
conductive (silver) lacquer would have been helpful. Leistsilber ; LeitLack ..2ml bottle
Vince breaks screen and ribbon cable! This is what happens when you go away for too long ;)
I have a blue amazon fire 8 HD but very hard to charge
it might be because the digitiser is not connected or the backlight filter
I has a water broke tablet and 2 weeks later, I tried powering it on nf it worked!
When it got wet did it only show the amazon logo when plugged in and then got black and then back to amazon logo?
Damn.. For the price of a new Battery "or forced refresh on the original" and then replacing the digitizer, say what now? oh yeah and that dimness needs to also be overridden "just wind that conductor into a coil and put some nail varnish on the fark.. err-um that coil, but doing all that me thinks a brand new Device could be had.. Dropped a like hoping a revisit may be around the corner once you jump on buying another broken donor to marry the two.. ;)
What make and model is the small laptop you used to show the ebay listing on
I do love your work but watching you do that with the suction cup was horrific.
i was screaming stop pulling stop pulling!!
:) can you imagine 61A usb charger? THAT would be a dangerous beast :)
(i know you corrected yourself Vince :) )
You could at least try and transfer the Audible files and any books from it. Probably make back the cost in free stuff.😜
Not after reseting it all that stuff is gone now and can't be recovered and can't take the internal flash storage out to do any file recovery because it will not work (that is why i fixed my old phone before getting a new one and i got my files off my azpen A743S tablet before the crack in the screen got too bad)
you win some, you lose some, and the rest gets rained out.
