Great video! Logic now automatically detects the pitch of a sample in quick sampler, and you can also transpose/fine tune with it as well. Saves a lot of time, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to double check the tuning is correct with FF pro Q
Edit: are you sure of the flex time algorithm that the quick sampler defaults to in pitching? It may be better to use this method if the default is slicing
Hey! In my experience the quick sampler doesn’t do a good job with drums, but you’re right about the pitch detection.
And yeah, the mono poly flex are actually time stretching (length of sample doesn’t increase or decrease in length related to pitch.) so the only other more would be rhythmic or slice

Shane, you always have such great sounding vocal chop melodies! Made me wonder, how would you go about using vocal chops for a prewritten melody? Say you have a melody on midi you really want to use for vocal chops, what would be your process to achieve a good vocal chop sound that way?

Cole Hammontree hey man! Yeah pretty much. I mostly use our samples, and they all contain the key info in the name so it’s easier. But there are times when I use other samples and have to figure out the key/pitch

Couldn't you turn up the sustain of the kick so it slows down a bit for the tuner to get a better reading. Then tune the kick and readjust the sustain?

Hi I have a tuning problem trying to create sample instruments out of any sound for example I recorded a few bird sounds for the highs and recorded a bell sound for lows and mids at the moment they are all out of tune with themself
but I am trying to get them all in tune in a musical note of C so I can start to layer them together
1,How would I approach this ?

I have a question, say i'm working in E Minor and the kick sample is in C should I transpose it up 5 semitones? I feel like the kick would lose a lot of its character then. Great video tho!
It depends on the Kick. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Anything over 3 semitones can impact the sound in my experience

i sampled a song and after pitch shifting and time stretching, i have no idea what key its in anymore or if the key changes at all? Any help would be much welcomed
Use a plug-in like songkey, autokey, or serato sample. Or you can just play along with any melodic instrument like a piano and find which notes are in tune with the sample.
Best quality algo for single drums is Speed. Too bad it only supports pitching by stretching the region, and not the transpose value. :(

I got a question too: So, I got SPAN downloaded and it's in my Components folder, but it's still not showing in Logic. I've quit Logic multiple times, tried redownloaded SPAN multiple times, restarted my computer multiple times, and it doesn't even show up in my Plug-ins Manager. Any suggestions?

In real life drums are not tuned to pitches. The kick is a thud, not a note. 😁
Producers have been tuning acoustic drums to the key of the song for many decades. The thud of the kick and the resonance of the snare and toms all contain a pitch that can be tuned in consonance with the song. It's a subtle effect, but it makes a difference.
@@everonlyallforthee Only they don’t. Not in my 54 years has any drummer I ever worked with done that. And what’s a “producer”? These days that’s anyone who calls themselves that. Lol
@@everonlyallforthee for example on many Steely Dan albums the snare is a sample played by a hardware sampler. The same sample. It’s not retuned from song to song. Every drummer I play with tunes their drums until they sound the way they want. That’s in isolation. They sure don’t retune between songs. And drums have a very limited pitch range once they are at the proper head tension to sound good. Have you actually worked with a drummer?

Logic isn't that complex. It's just different than what you're use to in FL or Ableton. FL is actually a crazy world when you dive deep. It can do things you can't do in Logic
