My great grandma in New Orleans made watermelon preserves sweet and a little spicy. We ate it with chicken and pork as a condiment...not on bread. Sweet tart goes well with poultry and pork.
Daddy was the family pickler he liked it chunky. He must have spent a lot of time in the kitchen with his grandmother back in New Mexico. Wished I had asked him more questions when he was alive, and we would sit at the kitchen table at 5 a.m. just he and I everybody else was still asleep.
Terre Porter ...I made them with same ingredients as pickles, cold packed the watermelon chunks then poured syrup into the jars, added a cinnamon stick too! 🍉
You continue to amaze me, Miss Lori❣️ All the wonderful goodies you grew up with and pass on to us...thank you! Love the new clock, and thank Mr. Brown for always taste-testing for us; he is a trusted taster.😄
“Waste not, want not” a great idea going on here. This was such fun watching and anticipating the end result. Mr. Brown did a fine job of making my mouth water. A nice serendipitous moment in my day watching and learning.
Great video......the watermelon rind preserves looked yummy 😋. My mama would make preserves for us when we were growing up and I can remember her making them as I got older......she loved making jellies and preserves they were always so delicious 😋. I remember my grandma making watermelon jelly I never learned how.. I was always too busy at eating it. But thank you so much now I know how to make watermelon preserves or jelly whichever one we call it can't wait to do it thank you again so much love your videos love you both
I use half erythrotol (swerve) and half monk fruit and I use it cup for cup as regular sugar. I have not done any preserves with it yet but I have made sweet pickles and they are great. We have been on Keto for a year and a half and there is no going back for us, we love it. Thank you for all your awesome recipes, I will be doing your relish this week. I use most ingredients and change others to fit our lifestyle. Have a great day. God bless.
We do keto as well, so far 3 1/2 years. I haven't make preserves or jam yet, but I did can some spiced/pickled peaches using Lakanto sweetener and they turned out really good. I want to try the watermelon rind preserves now!
Good morning Miss Lori! How are u? I love ur blouse! That is sooo pretty!🙂 now. I have never had watermelon preserves.. how interesting.. I'm gonna have to do this! Thx for sharing.. and I hope u have a good day!🥰
I've never seen this for sale over this way, but it looks like a fun thing to make. I did make apple jelly just once (years ago when the children were small), It was quite the process, with straining the pulp through the jelly bag overnight etc..but oh my the flavour was so good. It's interesting that this recipe resembles that or even apricot !! :) I liked hearing your new clock too ! but especially just watching and listening to your peaceful videos. Blessings to you sweet friend x
I grew up with this and we always left it chunky, haven't made it in a lot of years. Thanks this has brought back wonderful memories. This might be my Christmas gift to friends this year. Thank you!
I may just have to make some of this wonderful looking sticky stuff. I especially love your well loved and well used wooden spoon too. Love all your videos, Lori!
