Yeah, it was a big, big thing when KISS took off the makeup on MTV with JJ Jackson. I remember, I was there tuned in. Been a member of the KISS Army since 1978 when I bought my vrry first 8 track tape KISS Destroyer. Yeah, I'm that old.
Eric Carr was one of the best drummers in rock, absolute monster on drums, saw him live twice, f'n killer!!! may he rest in peace, god bless his soul forever
KISS without makeup is from 83 - 96, so not too early, as their first album was released in 73 if I'm not mistaken. This is Eric Carr on drums, who passed away in 1991. Bruce Kulick is on lead guitar here, and he was with them from 84 - 96. They have so many good hits. I would also recommend, "Let's Put the X in Sex", "Shout It Out Loud", "Tears Are Falling", "Reason to Live", Crazy Nights", "Turn on the Night", "I Was Made For Lovin You", "Unholy", "Domino". They have so many good songs.
Eric Carr ( the Fox )was my favorite member of KISS, and my favorite drummer you should react to a drum solo from him, is replaced by" Eric Singer "back in 1991 who is still with them to this day!,,,, AGAIN,, You to have still never reacted to a KISS song LIVE from beginning to end. Suggestions:." I Still Love You ' UNPLUGGED! ( amazing). "SHE" live 1975. A MIDNIGHT SPECIAL!! ,,,,, love ya!
'KISS' debut was released in '74. I have been a fan since '74 when my uncle bought me the album because I thought they looked "cool". He took me to see them for the first time a couple months later. I have never missed a U.S. Tour.
KISS - MTV Unplugged - I Still Love You. Probably Paul Stanley's finest vocal performance. Kiss in a completely different way than you are used to. You will be blown away. "You Got to Give the People What They Want!"
This lineup was definitely my favorite lineup next to the original lineup…Bruce Kulick is a great guitarist & wrote so many greats for Kiss…Eric Carr’s drumming brought KISS’ sound to a whole new level…RIP Eric Carr….Paul Stanley & Gene Simmons are legends of course 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Love it guys! My favorite era of KISS their 80s stuff is the best! Hide your Heart, Tears are falling, Turn on the Night, Reason to Live, Heaven's on Fire, Lick it Up, A Million to One, So many bangers! Eric Carr is the best drummer they had
NOW WE’RE TALKING!!!! 80zzzz KISS is always badasssssss….the album it’s off of “Asylum”, is a banger album….this one is obviously a 🔥🔥🔥song….also try “Who Wants to Be Lonely?” & “Tears are Falling”….this album has bern on my playlist since it first came out 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Ahh Tears are falling, Back to the old "Dial MTV" days when I would rush home from class just to see whether Kiss or Crue was going to be on top. Great memories, and some great music. Loved this era of Kiss almost as much as the classic line-up.

Dude, I love KISS. I can't list just a handful of songs you should do. This album ALONE has several. I love the originals, but the Bruce Kulick/Eric Carr era absolutely kicked ass.
Anything from Kiss is awesome. Doesn’t matter to me. Play it all. Tears are Falling is just as awesome. But Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Freeley, And Peter Chris. All time Favorites!!
Not a very young KISS, it's an older KISS, AFTER they removed the makeup. During the mid-eighties they decided that, since a lot of bands were wearing striking makeup, they didn't need to wear theirs anymore. Also, this drummer is Eric Carr.
KISS was my go to rock band in the 70's. Ace Frehley was the first one I saw without make in '75 after their concert in Columbus,Ohio! This song is rockin!! After seeing them all these years, it's no wonder Paul started having medical issues...after a while, even Prince had issues. The can only take so much physical punishment.
Gene has had all kind of basses and brands. His 2 most famous/popular are the axe and then the Punisher bass (designed by Gene himself). So even when he had the those, he has altered what instrument he's been playing now and then. For different reasons, sponsor deals, personal interests, etc. I love those 2 iconic basses, but my third and probably top pick is his Gibson Ripper basses he played early career
Jay, on your wondering if this was a younger version of KISS, it's more middle career. The non-makeup songs are easy to identify. They formed in 1973, in 1983 the makeup came off, in 1996 the makeup (and the original band members) came back. Ace and Peter left again after a few years, but the makeup stayed. So any video you see without makeup is going to fall into that 13 year window in the middle of their career. Gene uses many bass guitars, sometimes it's the axe, many times something else. I tend to like the 80's version of KISS the most, but for some old school KISS, you really should check out a song that is all about Gene, "God of Thunder." You really need to check out one of the live performances of that song. It's one that you'll see at any KISS concert, and a lot of fun
(Bell rings) Class is in session! Jay; at @3:55 you mention both that Gene doesn't have his 'axe', and that you think this is a 'younger' KISS... First, the bass in question is called the "Staccato" (but painted in black with silver edges, like his Axe), and no, this is **not** "younger KISS", as they started in 1973, **WITH** makeup, and this track/video is from 1985-- Also missing from the original lineup is drummer Peter Criss (this is Eric Carr) and lead guitarist Ace Frehley (this is Bruce Kulick)... My hopes for the continuation of humanity is buoyed with every tittle of music history that the two of you learn; and I hope that I can in some small part contribute to that continuation.... Blessed Be, & Peace! 🙏☮
Love kiss more then any other band...i even have kiss tattoo, but the eighties didnt thrill me...yes i liked it, and first couple times i saw them was the eighties...but when i went to 96/97 reunion tour with original members in full makeup and doing all their 70s tunes, i enjoyed it way more!!! But still is, and always will b my all time fav. Band!!!
You gotta do Shock Me. Original lead guitarist Ace Frehley is a big part of forming the KISS sound. Y'all will like the drums Peter Criss recorded on that track. It has a melody of its own.
This made my day watching you guys jamming out. Paul Stanley's vocals, up until about 2008, were top shelf. He was the best in the game. KISS deserves way more acknowledgement for their music than just their makeup and show. This is the shit right here. Nicely done!!
This was the lineup I grew up on. Paul’s voice was in top form, Eric’s drumming was great and Bruce’s guitar playing was (and still is) absolutely phenomenal. I love all eras of the band, but this was “my” era.
Eric Carr( THE FOX,)of KISS is my favorite member of KISS and my favorite drummer. He was KISSs second drummer for 10-years unfortunately died of cancer,,,, you should react to a drum solo of his sometime,,, you guys Still Haven't reacted to a live performance of KISS !!! SUGGESTIONS :I Still Love You"UNPLUGGED!! ,,,,,," SHE" live 1975. A MIDNIGHT SPECIAL!!!
I was a HUGE KISS fan when I was a teenager!! My sister, cousin and our good friend dressed up as KISS one year for Halloween!! What a great time we had!! I went to a KISS concert in the 80’s and sat at the side of the stage (it was general seating at that time). I remember girls taking of their shirts and throwing their bras on stage!!😂 At one point, Gene Simmons looked to the side of the stage and flipped his guitar pic and it landed on my seat right between my legs!! It was AWESOME!!!
Kiss is one of the most Iconic Rock bands ever. Jay and Amber check out "God of Thunder" & Calling Dr. Love. Rush opened for Kiss back in the mid 1975. Geddy and Alex are still friendly with Paul Stanley. 🔥
Also, I'm going to add that a MUST WATCH is the 1995 MTV Unplugged version of "I Still Love You". Paul Stanley's best vocals HANDS DOWN, and that is saying something.
This is IMO the best KISS lineup. I love 70s KISS but 80s KISS was amazing. Eric Carr was not only a great drummer but an awesome singer. And Bruce Kulick is such a great guitarist. This KISS era had a lot of good stuff.
Saw KISS at a Monsters of Rock concert in '88 during the CRAZY NIGHTS tour!!! With the BEST lineup, IMHO EVER, with Eric Carr(RIP) and Bruce Kulick!!! Saw them again during their "Hot In The Shade" tour!!! BEST EVER!!!
If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend the KISS MTV Unplugged. I didn’t have cable, and a friend at work knew that I was a Kiss fan. He recorded it for me and didn’t tell me anything else about it. BLOWN AWAY!!
kiss has had 3 different drummers and 5 different lead guitar players. this is my favorite line up with bruce kulick on lead guitar. he is a super cool, talented and humble guy. eric carr was the drummer at this time who sadly died of cancer in 1991. eric was a heavy hitting drummer and was a fun loving jokester. he and freddie murcury of queen passed away the same day.
❤KISS ,this is from the 80s. Peter was already gone at this time. I don't know if you know, but Paul was born with only one ear not bad for a singer that was born with only 50 percent of hearing. They were awesome in concert. ❤
Their drummer at this time(around 1985 or 86) was and last stretch of Eric Carr's tenure as Kiss drummer - the 2nd of 3. He was soon to visit the great gig in the sky. They only wore their makeup from their inception through 1983 and then again from 1989 to modern day - essentially their entire careers except for 6-7 years. Until they took the makeup off, no one except those close to them and their entourage and business people had any idea of what they looked like without their makeup because Kiss demanded enough respect even in the beginning(1973) that reporters and anyone with a camera to NOT point it at them if their makeup wasn't on. And of the very few people who initially took pictures anyhow, they would have their film bought by Kiss's people on the spot. The only photos you'll see of them as themselves with no makeup from that period are ones that were taken by themeselves, their families, close friends, business associates or any number of virtually infinite groupies, etc. - However, with one exception. There is footage of Gene and Paul in their pre-Kiss years makeup-less in publicity shots of their one pre-Kiss album(called Wicked Lester) that never officially got released, but likely would have been released in 1973 or 1974 - and there are school yearbook photos out there too.
A suggestion for your movie channel. You need to watch Detrot Rock City (1999). The film was produced by KISS specifically for all of the KISS fans out there. The Legend has it, (okay, the DVD commentary, not really legend) that KISS was going to produce a movie for their anniversary/comback. Gene Simmons, who is a big time movie fan, read through hundreds of scripts. All of them featured the fans, but they weren't very good. Then he found one that wasn't about the band, but about the fans, and the Legendary KISS concert in Detroit's Cobo Hall back in 1978. Gene read the script and said, This is the one. We're making this movie for the fans. Jay, from one KISS fan to another, this one is worth watching. This was movie made for us fans.
God of Thunder is essential Kiss. A must to listen to. Heavens on Fire is absolutely rockin too if you want Kiss without makeup. Also, anything off the Revenge album is 🔥! That's my favorite Kiss album. Eric Carr is one of the greatest drummers of all time! He was so amazing! May he rest in peace
Say thanks to Desmond Child fort this gem of a song! This great composer co-wrote some of Kiss' most beautiful jewels during the magical decade of the 80s (Heaven's On Fire, Hide Your Heart, Let's Put The X In Sex, Reason To Live, My Way, Time Traveler, Sword & Stone). He was even responsible for the band's biggest hit in 1979 (I Was Made For Lovin' You). He represents everything Gene Simmons, the other half of Kiss, hates... Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Alice Cooper, Cher, Michael Bolton, Ricky Martin and countless others can also say a big thank you to Desmond Child!
He certainly was throughout most of the 80s. Especially when you take into account that Gene was constantly off on movie projects and side projects, so he wasn't making many contributions on the creative side. They'll never admit how close the band came to breaking up, but it got to a breaking point for Paul where he finally got Gene in a room and started ripping him. But he was pretty much doing everything for the band back then. Animalize, Asylum and Crazy Nights just ooze Paul Stanley.
in the 80s KISS took off the make up to prove they werent just a gimmick hand after a few albums that still kicked ass they went back to their classic look
Best Kiss drummer was Eric Carr "The Fox" unfortunately he died of cancer in 1991 when he was 11 years old in the band, he was drummer for the classics I love it loud and forever. A hug from the subscriber here in Brazil.
Love the Steve Miller shirt, I saw them at Disney Land in 1980 on the catwalk going to Space Mountain when I was 10. Still holds a favorite memory as concerts go! Y’all really are a beautiful couple!!
You have got to see I Still Love You from their MTV Unplugged performance. It is a great song, and it's arguably the best you will ever see Paul Stanley. He was at his peak there.
4:58 The drummer playing drums inthis video was Eric Carr, the 2nd drummer that became a member of Kiss replacing Peter Criss after he'd left the band Sadly, Eric Carr died from heart cancer
Gene doesn't always use his ax guitar. It wasn't in the "Forever" video, for example. That was drummer Eric Carr in the video. Kiss began wearing make-up in the 1970's, took it off in the 80's, and put it back on in the 1990's. They've had it on ever since. But, in the 70's, they kept their identities a secret and never appeared without it.
Paul Stanley said it himself - In an interview he stated - Somebody asked me Well how are you going to play now that you're without makeup. Paul answered - Well hopefully the same as I've always played 😅. I will give Paul mad props. During the 80s he seemed to sing with much more intense aggression and sounded much more confident...if that makes sense.
You have to listen to Alive, Alive II. I love KISS since i was 10 years old (early 1979) i've seen KISS 64 times live since 1980. I like all KISS records but like the most besides the live albums: Dressed to KIll, Hotter than hell, Destroyer and the songs on Killers. But also like 80's KISS.
The song is written by Paul Stanley, Desmond Child and Jean Beauvoir ex-Plasmatics. Beauvoir also recorded the bass on Uh All Night! and Who Wants To Be Lonely from the Asylum album. Check out Hate, Childhood's End and Seduction Of The Innocent from Carnival Of Souls The Final Sessions from 1997. The last album with guitarist Bruce Kulick. A phenomenal album imo
Met Gene for first time in Detroit on the tour for this album just before the show at Joe Louis Arena. I was nervous as hell and he was cool as hell. Made me feel like a friend as he signed my album and invited me to walk to his limo with him. Got Eric Carr’s (RIP) and Bruce Kulick’s signatures after the show.
Paul and Gene began performing together in 1973 in a band named Wicked Lester, but their demo was rejected by the record companies. They broke that band up, hired Ace and Peter as replacements, and adapted their makeup scheme and the Kiss name in 1974. They took the makeup off in 1983, with the release of the Lick It Up album. Ace and Peter both left the band before this album (Peter was fired for rampant drug and alcohol abuse, Ace quit), so Paul and Gene thought they needed a new more contemporary look to keep the band going. They went back to the makeup in 1996 when Ace and Peter rejoined the band for a reunion tour.
Paul Stanley said that the 80's version of Kiss without makeup scored hit records without much support from the industry (or Gene Simmons' participation... he was busy making movies) ... So, it fell on Stanley to write all the hit songs... produce the entire record... do promo for the album to get on radio on MTV... arrange the music video shoots... and book the tours and approve the stage shows. Gene was barely writing songs and barely playing on the albums, and only showed up for photos, videos and concerts... However, this 1985 album 'Asylum' finally had a solid Kiss line-up... (the late) Eric Carr on drums, and Bruce Kulick (lead guitar) who stayed w/ Kiss until the 1996 reunion w/ Ace & Peter... They were getting comfortable w/ the "big 80's" rock sound and the album went gold (half million copies sold)... The non-makeup Kiss was also selling out arenas in the US that year and played Madison Square Garden in NYC for the first time, since the 70's w/ the original Kiss. Two other popular Kiss songs from this record were 'Tears are falling' and 'Who wants to be lonely'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
The last album for a while where Gene was a major contributor was "Lick it Up" in 1983. Paul's putting in the extra effort paid off for the even bigger hit "Animalize". Gene was fully back for 1989's "Hot in the Shade" which sold short of platinum like "Asylum" but was the better album.
@@bookhouseboy280 Gene still had songs on the 80's records, but he basically did the minimum effort... Made the demos, did his bass parts, and then sang the final version... I think Paul Stanley called them "junk" and had to re-arrange the tracks to make the albums, and then hired a studio bassist to do a bulk of the records. People don't realize that Gene Simmons did not even play much bass on his 1978 solo album 🤣
Yes this was Eric Carr on drums who took over for Peter cross when the band and he parted ways, who was an incredible drummer who sadly passed away much too young from of all things, heart cancer
For a long time, the public didn't know what KISS looked like without makeup. Even when they went out on the town and the paparazzi would take their picture, and they would cover their face with a scarf or a bandana. Nobody knew what they looked like for many years. Then in the 80s, they decided to reveal their faces finally.
I think it’s funny the line just one thing money won’t buy. Cross that with the probably suggestive wording of the title. Let’s face it Jean Simmons was buying a lot of that. Uh! All night.🎉
1973-early 80’s-All Makeup/Full Costume KISS….early 80’s-96…..no makeup,Ace and Peter gone….96-early 2000’s-Reunion KISS…all makeup…..then full Makeup since Then.
This drummer is Eric Carr. He died of heart cancer in 1991. The current drummer is Eric Singer. Gene has designed and holds the patent on 3 different bass guitars. Shout it out Loud Tiger Stadium is a video you need to check out. Reunion tour original lineup in make up. I’ve seen them twice. True kiss experience is on stage
Y'all need to hear, "Hard luck woman" by Kiss. Crazy, but it has a country feel to it! So much so that Garth Brooks covered it! Its a great song, I highly recommend it!
This drummer is Eric Carr, he passed away of stomach cancer in the mid to late 90's I think. Kiss has had at least 3 drummers and at leat 4 lead guitarists.
Great reaction, now you gotta do... Tears Are Falling... from the same album. That's the late great Eric Carr on drums and the sensational Bruce Kulick on lead guitar in this 80s Kiss line up.
An excellent choice. Try out room service from dressed to kill album 1975. Jay kiss has been my favourite band since they began. Keep rockin you two !👍👍🤟🤟
KISS has been around since 73. took makeup off 10 years later, and put back on in 96. this is smack dab in the glorious 80s!!!
1980s kiss is the greatest era of the band
Yeah, it was a big, big thing when KISS took off the makeup on MTV with JJ Jackson. I remember, I was there tuned in. Been a member of the KISS Army since 1978 when I bought my vrry first 8 track tape KISS Destroyer. Yeah, I'm that old.
Eric Carr was one of the best drummers in rock, absolute monster on drums, saw him live twice, f'n killer!!! may he rest in peace, god bless his soul forever
You’re lucky that you saw Kiss in the era of Eric Carr live! I didn’t have the chance sadly.
Best drummer ngl! Rest in peace

I prefer the original line-up (Paul, Gene, Ace, Peter) It really was more fun when we did not know what they looked like for many years.
I agree with Let's Put the X in Sex and Tears are Falling. But they really must do Cold Gin.
'KISS' debut was released in '74. I have been a fan since '74 when my uncle bought me the album because I thought they looked "cool". He took me to see them for the first time a couple months later. I have never missed a U.S. Tour.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend the KISS MTV Unplugged. I didn’t have cable, and a friend at work knew that I was a Kiss fan. He recorded it for me and didn’t tell me anything else about it. BLOWN AWAY!!
I was a mega huge Kiss fan around this time and was super happy to see this reaction. 80s Kiss was way heavier. R.i.p. Eric Carr.
Alright! Some dark horse KISS!
I Just Wanna, and Psycho Circus are two bangers from the 90's. One is in makeup and one is not.
This whole album was fire!!!
Love you all the kiss song
KISS is my all time favorite band. Thanks for doin this. RIP to the greatest drummer to ever hold a pair of sticks....Eric Carr
kiss has had 3 different drummers and 5 different lead guitar players. this is my favorite line up with bruce kulick on lead guitar. he is a super cool, talented and humble guy. eric carr was the drummer at this time who sadly died of cancer in 1991. eric was a heavy hitting drummer and was a fun loving jokester. he and freddie murcury of queen passed away the same day.
❤KISS ,this is from the 80s. Peter was already gone at this time. I don't know if you know, but Paul was born with only one ear not bad for a singer that was born with only 50 percent of hearing. They were awesome in concert. ❤
Classic Kiss, can't beat it!
This was about the mid eighties and took The make up off. And they got all colorful and sparkly.
'I was made for loving you' was a massive hit. No 1 here down under.
Understand that Paul Stanley has been the guy carrying the torch all the while.
The drummer here is Eric Carr
This album was my first concert, I was 15 and it was awesome!
in the 80s KISS took off the make up to prove they werent just a gimmick hand after a few albums that still kicked ass they went back to their classic look
70s kiss 💋 had makeup!!! 80s they came back with no makeup 💄 and everyone was ready to see!!!! ❤😂 it was a big thing!!!! 😮
Rob Squad plus KISS is PURE GOLD!
Best Kiss drummer was Eric Carr "The Fox" unfortunately he died of cancer in 1991 when he was 11 years old in the band, he was drummer for the classics I love it loud and forever. A hug from the subscriber here in Brazil.
He was 41
Love the Steve Miller shirt, I saw them at Disney Land in 1980 on the catwalk going to Space Mountain when I was 10. Still holds a favorite memory as concerts go! Y’all really are a beautiful couple!!
You have got to see I Still Love You from their MTV Unplugged performance. It is a great song, and it's arguably the best you will ever see Paul Stanley. He was at his peak there.
I agree...I suggested it too. It is incredible
Must watch Kiss God of Thunder (goodbye Atlants 2020 live with Gene Simmons singing and has his ax guitar)
4:58
The drummer playing drums inthis video was Eric Carr, the 2nd drummer that became a member of Kiss replacing Peter Criss after he'd left the band
Sadly, Eric Carr died from heart cancer
Gene doesn't always use his ax guitar. It wasn't in the "Forever" video, for example. That was drummer Eric Carr in the video. Kiss began wearing make-up in the 1970's, took it off in the 80's, and put it back on in the 1990's. They've had it on ever since. But, in the 70's, they kept their identities a secret and never appeared without it.
that was one of the reasons, that ive heard, was to let the fans know they actually were good at there instruments.
This is a great band. Doing security was a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cranky old white guy loves you two. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely love your energy and love of the 80’s KISS! Your videos are so inspiring and fun and keep me young!
This song is what started me as a KISS fan
The lineup here, if I remember right, is Paul and Gene, with Eric Carr on drums and Bruce Kulick on lead guitar
I love this álbum
This was a great song.....but the best KISS song of the 80's is "Thrills in the night"
Uh! All night.🎉
No, this is later Kiss. They wore makeup from the beginning. Also, if you noticed, Gene still has a unique bass.
The only KISS tour I saw was the first without makeup and it was amazing!!!
1973-early 80’s-All Makeup/Full Costume KISS….early 80’s-96…..no makeup,Ace and Peter gone….96-early 2000’s-Reunion KISS…all makeup…..then full Makeup since Then.
Jay and Amber this song from the late 80's. Good rocking song.
KISS had makeup 1973-1983, no makeup 1983-1996, makeup 1996 - present.
Asylum is the best non-makeup KISS album! Period
This is 80s KISS. The drummer is the late great Eric Carr. He was a great drummer!
Not a young Kiss, definitely 10+ years into their career, but THIS IS A ROCKING SONG!!! My senior year in high school.
