This is the KISS that most of us fell in love with as kids in the 70's. Parents hated them, churches protested them......kids thought they were the coolest thing ever. My very first concert was the KISS Destroyer tour........I was 9 or 10.......my dad, a country boy, had no clue what he was taking me to.....neither did I for that matter.
Yes. They even hid their faces like Spider-man. Back then Spider-man's secret identity was super-important in the comic book, so it was a real parallell.
When KISS was formed, it was their goal to be like something that was NEVER seen before, and to leave the crowd stunned at what they just witnessed. All four members sang lead also, with certain songs. Paul and Gene sang the majority of them, but Peter Criss (drummer) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar) had songs they sang too.
Basically whomever wrote the song, sang the song. There are 4 albums where the cover art is each member face, having songs written by corresponding members
@@acemodez3169 That's how they wanted to portray it,but that's not how it was done.Paul & Gene were they primary song writers.Peter & Ace co wrote,At least in the beginning.Gene wanted Ace to sing Cold Gin.He wouldn't do it.Ace wouldnt sing until Love Gun I think
correct, Ace wrote songs for the first albums but never sang them in KISS, Cold Gin, Parasite, Getaway, Strange Ways...first song on vocals was Shock Me from Love Gun, after that he sang regularly.
I think it’s time for you guys to listen THE ODESSY 1981 by then. When the music was so treasury. Those when many musicians and bands were struggling or dying. Some of them refused to be killed by the disco they quick and the others were surfing on the big musical waves, new styles old styles splashed. I think I was lucky to be a witness of that BIG BANG ‼️ in the music history. Was the time when so many fans were “betrayed “ by their musical idols. Just like that . I think you have to learn a lot and maybe you could understand the people from that generation. Maybe not. Good reaction as always Keep it up
KISS has decades of bangers, so no matter which song you pick, you pretty much can't go wrong. They just retired after a 50-year career. Which is mind-blowing. 🤯 I've seen KISS live in concert so many times, I lost count. Matter of fact, they were my very first concert back in 1978! 🤘😃
"The Midnight Special" was a late night weekly television program that aired on NBC beginning in 1972. Usually had several bands, sometimes some standup comedy, and was hosted by legendary radio DJ Wolfman Jack. It was notable in that performers actually performed live, in front of a live audience, rather than lip syncing to their recordings, which was how most bands appeared on other television shows. It has gained cachet in the UA-cam era because a wide library of these performances exist, and the quality of recording was uncommonly good for a television program in the early 70's. Many of the performances feature bands that may not have any other film or video of them performing live even available...
I am a 60yr old man and have seen 1000s of concerts in my day. I saw Kiss with all original members in 79. BEST concert ever! My grandmother even attended this show and loved it!
I saw kiss twice in the 70's while in college! They also appeared in a high school homecoming parade and football halftime in Cadillac, Michigan. The asst coach started playing their music and they started winning. Rest is history! Peace from Northern Michigan!
This was early in their career. The costumes, stage, pyrotechnics and yes the shoes got so much more awesome!!! Gene's dragon shoes were so cool!!! I was lucky enough to see them 4 times. Twice during the KISS ALIVE II tour. Their shows were epic!!!
As someone born in the early 1960s, I grew up during an incredible time in the presence of music. In high school, Friday nights were for partying, but I had to be home early enough to watch The Midnight Special! Same with Saturday nights, but to watch "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert!" And now and then, there were incredible musical performances on "Saturday Night Live!" There were so many incredible musical guests on those shows. With the Midnight Special, they required acts to play live, no lip-sync. I'll never forget the show that featured a solo performance by Todd Rundgren, the song, "Hello, It's Me." They announced that Todd would be performing, singing and playing piano to his own backing track. There are so many amazing performances out there,in particular by a band called "Fanny," a quartet of incredibly talented women who prepared the way for bands like The Runaways, The Bangles and The Go-Gos.
I always find myself smiling without even trying whenever I hear or see the live version of this song. From the 1st time I saw them in 1977 to the last time last December.
Burt Sugarmanns Midnight Special was a staple for me on Friday night once I got old enough to stay up. For someone who lived in an area where big group hardly ever came, this was a chance to see a lot of performers live.
Kiss live was awesome. The platform shoes enhanced their "larger than life" image. They literally looked like giants, and each persona was mesmerizing. Regular shoes would have been too passe, or normal. They wanted to go all out, and this clip was early Kiss. Their stage show continued to be more and more sophisticated and each tour had more additional effects, i.e. lasers, flames, Gene spitting fire and rising to the rafters, Paul going on a zip line to the center of the arena, Peter's drum riser coming to the front of the stage during his solo, and rising to the ceiling at the end of "Black Diamond", and Ace's guitar shooting rockets. They are sang lead. Check out the Catman drummer on "Hooligan" live in Houston 1977. You'll both dig his r&b voice.
"The platform shoes enhanced their "larger than life" image. They literally looked like giants" - 100% spot on! When you meet them, it's actually intimidating to see them towering over you and everyone else in the room. A fantastic marketing gimmick!
Original Kiss Army guy from 1976 here. Kiss got me into Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and I've never looked back since. They were comic book heroes come to life. With Kiss, you gotta listen to the studio versions first, then the live version. Fun reaction.
One of the very best Kiss songs ever. Very glad you chose the live version for your reaction, it's much better than the studio version. This video is made even better because it was the original Kiss line up playing. I saw them live in concert back in 1975 and they blew me away. Because of their stage antics, it's often overlooked what good musicians they are. Ace Frehley is a premier lead guitarist and Peter Criss is an excellent drummer. Sometime you may want to check out his amazing drum solo in the live version of "100,000 Years" 1975-76 era Thanks for reacting to this song and please continue your Kiss journey.
I was lucky to be invited to attend their 2000 tour with the regrouping of the original line up! My friends and I went in face paint, I was made up as Paul Stanley, aka Star Child. Their stage show is so much more than the makeup and costumes...they really put on a show and their charisma draws you in! Oh, and the song Charisma is a good one too.
This is KISS before they got big....they were on the way......they were still hungry......now you need to watch a live show from the late 70's.....that is KISS at the height of their super powers.
I saw them in 1979 when I was 13, by that time they had a much bigger show with full pyrotechnics and raised platforms. And this video was a TV show so there was just so much they could do.
I have watched this video many times over the years and never noticed until recently that Gene rolls his right ankle at the very beginning of the performance when he turns around. Amazing!
I'm late to the party on this reaction. Easily the most fun live band ever. This was the early days before they had gotten big. More money they got, the better and bigger their costumes and stage got. LOVE IT!!! GO BRUINS!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟😝😝😝
I have great memories watching this legendary show as almost all of the top notch artists performed on it.The pilot premiered August 19th 1972 and it ran as a 90 minute show until 1981!
KISS is the first band I ever saw live the first concert I ever went to. It was 1978 and I was 12 years old. It was at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood California. A concert I’ll never forget. I’ve been to hundreds of metal shows since then but that one will always stand out in my memory. Fun reaction 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤘🤘🤘🤘
K I ⚡⚡ I seen them on their LOVE GUN tour and CHEAP TRICK opened for $ 8.50 or maybe $12.00? Awesome!! Didn't care too much for them after this album. CALLING DOCTOR LOVE is one of my favorite songs along with; SHE, PARASITE and BLACK DIAMOND from KISS ALIVE!! 7 inch platforms I believe! GREAT CHANNEL!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
I saw this band, this same year, this same set design and band look, 1975, in a small town college gymnasium. I was 14. There might have five hundred people there. What always impressed me about that concert was that, while they were still on their way up, they were already big enough that I could see them not really knocking themselves out for a small crowd in a small town, but there was none of that. They hit it hard, with an attitude that seemed to be: "There might not be many people here, but those that are are going to see the greatest show of their lives, and remember it forever"...Highly commendable, and highly indicative of their drive at the time...
KISS came up with it but it was their first band manager's partner made it part of the stage choreography..At first they thought it was stupid until they watched it on film. They did at every live show from 1975 to their last show December 2023 during this song. The stage was really slippery.Midnight special was a late night musical variety show where bands played live
Kiss set the standard for all live shows done today. This is a performance at the very start of their formation. With each year, their shows became more powerful, outrageous and bombastic. It's called 'shock rock'. And Kiss were masters at it. As they became multi-millionaires they could afford to go over-the-top on effects,....lasers, bombs, fire, etc .In the years that followed, other bands started copying.
KISS pretty much set the standard for live shows we know today: pyro, drum risers, ect MidNight Special was a show that was on weekends. I remeber watching this one as a teenager
Was lucky enough to see them at Madison square garden in 96 when the band reunited after 17 years with makeup. Hands down best live rock show I have ever seen!!
Her reaction @ 9:00 is the only verification my son and I need to know why this is our all time favorite band and that we were lucky to meet all four legends that you see on that stage.
KISS basically is the same band now as in 50 years ago. They had a vision and a dream and followed through. Not many people on this planet have truly achieved that. They still did that Deuce dance for “me” at MSG in December last year
Seen them 6 months ago in Sydney honestly they made a 3hr mad great show full of energy and hype they were awsome and the show was spot on full stadium 70 thousand people
That is a TV studio. They might not have been able to use all their pyrotechnics. Kiss is FAMOUS for their use of pyrotechnics, risers, and more.... Keep checking out live performances. They were the trend setter for fire on stage. Another song to.try, Love Gun. Also, if youd like to see them sans makeup, the song I Still Love You on MTV unplugged. Bands come on the show and played their music accustically . While I prefer the.electric version, this one is outstanding, it's a showcase of Paul Stanley"s vocals. Highly recommend. 🙂
When I was 12 or 13 I became obsessed with this song from playing Tony Hawks Underground. Been a KISS fan now for 20 years and seen them in concert 3 times!
Ace Frehley was my first guitar hero. The first vinyl record I ever owned was Kiss Alive in 1978. I was 4 years old. My older cousin got me into them. I would play air guitar on a tennis racquet while standing on my bed adorned with Star Wars sheets. What a time to be alive.
There is a gold mine of concert footage out there from the 70's that has been released in box sets, full concerts from '75 to '80 and beyond. So no shortage of live material out there from their heyday. They were in a TV studio here, so their stage show was limited, they already had the fire and flash in their own concerts, right from the start.
I saw KISS in concert when I was 3 in 1979! I had two older sisters and my parents took us all to the show. Not normal parent reactions to KISS in the late 70’s but we were a hip family. HAHA
I would include Stanley among the musicians, I mean "I Still Love You" is awesome, and he used to have an amazing voice. Gene however is mostly a showman and a businessman, but he always was the coolest of them all. ;)
I saw this guys at the Nassau Coliseum, NY on New Year’s Eve 1975. Great night, the Leslie West Band opened, followed by Blue Oyster Cult then Kiss brought down the house. You definitely should check out a live version of their song “Rock and Roll All Nite”. #Kiss
Some of the must watch definitive KISS performances are Winterland 1975, Cobo Hall January 1976, Houston or Largo MD 1977. Some songs to check out are Black Diamond, God Of Thunder, Strutter, Love Gun, I Stole Your Love, Watchin You, Shock Me. As far as recordings the live versions from KISS Alive & KISS Alive ll are iconic.
This is a tv show from the 70's that they played on, much toned down. In concert they have more fire, explosions, general pyrotechnics and stage presence of any band I've ever seen! Say what you will about the outfits and makeup but they are truly the best stage band EVER!
Sam is absolutely correct when it comes to music reactions, one should always experience the studio version first. You get a much greater appreciation of the music that way. Coming up during the 70's, we heard the music before going to see any show. Then we saw the show and we were blown away again, but in a different way. Please, I implore you, always do the studio version first. I, myself, tend to leave and go to another reaction video if I see that a first reaction to a video is live.
You guys should do kiss without makeup..perfect song is heaven's on fire..probably their best song..thanks..congrats on the 115 subscriptions. You have came a long way in a short time
In 1975,.I was 6,..I was home listening to the WHO on vinyl,.my dad came home from band practice. He wanted me to listen to a couple of records,no information whatsoever,.just listen.I did and I loved both of them,..he then showed me what the band was called and looked like,.First two albums…KISS and Hotter than Hell,..from that second on my life was immediately changed!.I’ve seen every so-cal KISS Tour since 1976 Anaheim Stadium!….Again it’s the Music that’s lasted, and will last forever.X
You have to remember that this was a television performance - and the band had to cut back on the visuals purely because they just did not have the space (and probably not the insurance) for them.
Platforms were the thing back in the day but not everyone had the balls or confidence to wear them! I wore them with my denim jumpsuit, those were the days my friends!
The first time I saw KISS was also the first time I saw Black Sabbath as KISS opened around the time of this video, KISS was semi shocking but give them props for having the chops to back up the outrageous stage performance. Deuce is an excellent tune off their debut album, it rocks, big time! These guys were nuts and could bang out some damn fine hard rock, New York style. BUT Sabbath came out and showed immediately why they were headliners with the opening notes of War Pigs. Do KISS and their anthem, God of War, another slab of pioneering semi-metal, hard rocking goodness. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
The high footware made them larger on stage, creating an even larger than life presence. KISS was all about the show! They wanted to be The Beatles taken to an extreme! Gene is “The Demon”, Paul is “Starman”, Ace is “Space Ace” and Peter is “Catman”.
Early Kiss is so wonderful; before they became good at playing their instruments. Simmons is like 6' 5" and used to set his topknot on fire! The next one should be "Black Diamond," or "Cold Gin Time."
There’s a cool tribute album called Kiss My A**. Lenny Kravitz does this song and Garth Brooks does “Hard Luck Woman”. That’s a good song you guys might like.
This is when I liked kiss, before they became a pop band. I did see them record that live album in the late 70s in L.A, along with a bunch of 12 and 13-year-old kids with their parents. I just went because I knew they were going to make a live album, it was fun but this first album or wherever this song came from is a great album. I should say a great 8 track tape.
I’ve been a KISS fan since 1975. Unfortunately Dec 02, 2023 was their final concert. I got to see them twice in concert. Their concept of live performances was that it’s 50/50 - visual as well the sound. At 72 - Paul Stanley was still able to stick those landings and still had the dance moves. The boots and visual effects got bigger but the music stayed the same
Kiss was a struggling band that couldn't break the big time until they came out with a live album called Kiss "Alive". Then they became the biggest band in the land. Or something like that? A littile before my time. But I know my history or Kisstory, LOL.
Reminds me of the energy Iron Maiden had during their metal/punk fusion at the very beginning (with Paul DiAnno as vocalist). Raw, heavy yet catchy and also unique enough to be quite timeless. If only Kiss had left on a high (about 20 years ago) after their remarkable Australian Symphony Live Album.
First saw KISS in concert back in January '78. KISS slaughtered the 19,000+ crowd at the Spectrum in Philly that night. Ticket price back then was $8.00. I still have my ticket / ticket stub. They dominated the mid to late 70's and crushed it thru the 80's. I went on to see them 10 more times, most recently October 23, 2023 in Nashville to another sold out show. Fact: KISS has more GOLD records than any band in history. More than the Beatles, Elvis, the Stones, Led Zep, anyone. Their final concert, December 2nd, 2023 at Madison Square Garden not only sold out but, 551,000 people paid to watch the show live through Pay-Per-View. It was historic, KISSTORY in fact!
This is the KISS that most of us fell in love with as kids in the 70's. Parents hated them, churches protested them......kids thought they were the coolest thing ever.

Love them or hate them, Kiss put their stamp into Rock n Roll history 🤘🤘
And that's exactly why they're so hated. Detractors can't stand that Kiss is WAY bigger than the little bands they follow.

one of their best, god of thunder - symphony alive IV.
When I was 12 or 13 I became obsessed with this song from playing Tony Hawks Underground.
Been a KISS fan now for 20 years and seen them in concert 3 times!
Love this song
7:00 spot on. Studio version first, in nearly all cases. Then enjoy a live performance. Spot on.
HAHA
Use to wear the platform shoes to high school in the mid 70s. It was a crazy time 😎
Love kiss!! Especially early kiss, deuce one of my all time favorites!!
Two musicians (Frehley and Criss) and two showmen (Stanley and Simmons). The perfect combo.
I would include Stanley among the musicians, I mean "I Still Love You" is awesome, and he used to have an amazing voice. Gene however is mostly a showman and a businessman, but he always was the coolest of them all. ;)
I saw every tour KISS had. And the convention in Atlanta 1995.
Would absolutely love more live kiss reactions!! Preferably pre 2003 as that’s when ace and Peter the original members were still involved in the band
If you can't appreciate the simplicity and fun you must be a blast at parties!
#Kiss
Was there as well! Amazing night of rock n roll!!!
@@jmageeart that it was! When BOC closed their set with like 5 guitars blaring away and then Kiss’ awesome rendition of Rock and Roll All Nite!!!
I have the entire Midnight Special series. I treasure it!
1975 Platform shoes were Hot!!
KISS was my first rock concert. I was 11 years old. Seeing them play and Gene Simmons breathing fire and spitting blood blew my mind.
You have came a long way in a short time
This was early 74. They started in 73.
Gene is 6.2.
Check out god of thunder under brooklyn bridge
I remember seeing them as a kid on the Midnight Special 🎤🎸🥁🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥
Saw them at the right time as a kid. First slbum in rock i ever owned.
I've seen them a few times they do rock out❤😂Much love from Canada❤🇨🇦
Platforms were the thing back in the day but not everyone had the balls or confidence to wear them! I wore them with my denim jumpsuit, those were the days my friends!
early kiss was awesome, cant beat their old stuff from back then...formed the person i am today as far as music is concerned.
Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
One of my favorite Kiss songs
Looking at other performances from bands in 75 this was wild !
Yep, they bring it.
The boots and visual effects got bigger but the music stayed the same
Rocket ride is a killer .. please try it thanks guys !!
Been a fan since I was 3 years old
You can't go wrong with The Midnight Special
……remember…… they toned it down for this performance on tv 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️🎸🎸
If you mean lip sync and weren't playing the guitars, I agree.
Kiss was a struggling band that couldn't break the big time until they came out with a live album called Kiss "Alive". Then they became the biggest band in the land. Or something like that? A littile before my time. But I know my history or Kisstory, LOL.
My younger sister loved KISS, before Alive. I remember when they came to Davenport,IA, and, parts of Alive! were from that concert.
You have to watch live in concert . This was on a tv show . Check out Kiss -War Machine - live in Detroit 1984 . KISS has a live show like no other
I still think the 70s is the coolest decade so far, for sure. ⭐️🥂👊
You need to watch all three songs from the midnight special! Duece, She, and Black Diamond.
I worked at the Michigan Palace in Detroit for their debut. It was a hell of a show!
KISS was always about over the top larger then life and complete controlled mayhem, They were the greatest show on earth. Better then a circus!
Platform shoes were the thing in the 70's, high school kids were them to school back in the day.
