I’ve owned three old Alfa spyders. When you said it was advertised as being “rust free” I had my doubts. Those rocker panels are notorious, especially in northern areas like Massachusetts. You showed amazing patience in cutting out the rusty metal and welding in new panels. Bravo to you!

Well done!...taking a car on like this when you are learning about Alfa's is courageous. The great thing is that you have rescued another classic alfa and put it back on the road. Keep it and enjoy the wonderful driving experience these magic little cars offer.

Well done. You did a great job keeping costs to a minimum. I'm at least 16K deep into my 1979 MGB...

I am not surprised by the final cost. I own a Spider that I bought rust free, well documented, etc. We never saw the condition of the top of this one. I assume that needs to be replaced. This has the plus of being a 1750 with Euro bumpers. Kudos on the quality of the work. Might take some patience to find the right buyer.

My all time favorite car. Owned a 1976 Alpha Romeo Spider (Milano?) I remember calling it that in the day.. not sure if a Milano exists. It was cherry red with gold wheels... bought for 500.00 from a Florida used car lot. They neglected to tell me that the radiator hose was busted... and I was an idiot 20 something and didn't take it straight to a mechanic to have it checked out. I drove it back and forth to a bar I was bouncing at in Boca Raton. 'One for the Road'. Since my commute was only about 2 miles, overheating was never a possibility... until I drove it to West Palm Beach with my girlfriend. Ended up warping the head.. (aluminum) had it towed back to Boca then traded it for another car. Now 30 years later... I MISS THAT CAR! Only drove it for a couple of weeks. Found one when I moved back to OK years ago but was missing too many parts to make it a sound investment. Still my favorite after all this time. Such a wonderful feeling driving it. Still on my bucket list to get another one. You did a great job on the restoration... I'm not much into cars but I would certainly give a project like this a go. Congrats.

The car looks amazing, you've done a great job and teached worldwide how to do it. No money can buy that, no money can buy the enormous amount of girls you are gonna get with the car and, mostly, you neverending smile while diving it.

I think realistically you could get $15k for this Spider, the amount and quality of work you did will show in the videos and you did a great job restoring the car

It is quite impressive how you had the tenacity to see this project through. You might have went over budget but the grand total doesn't seem to be that bad for such a car. Let's see what other vehicle you can bring back from the depths of oblivion.

Love the content! As a big vintage Alfa fan, it was very enjoyable watching you restore this S2 spider. And these spiders in good shape actually fetch a fair price. Values go up and down but I’d say this car could be worth closer to $15k to the right buyer. Props to your hard work!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I buy old Spiders and every seller thinks their junk car is worth what they see on BAT. They have no idea how much it costs to restore. Put a value on your labor and your way upside down.
Don’t get me wrong, you did a great job, but you also proved that Alfas just aren’t at the point where restoration is a good financial decision.
And you bought yours at a great price!

    • @ulrichseeger2257
      @ulrichseeger2257 Рік тому +1

Yes, I can confirm that. Just labour hours for a low budget standard restoration will easily add from 200 to 400 hours, no parts included. So all cars with resale prices below 30.000 USD make such efforts economically difficult.

I've really enjoyed following your progress with this project so thank you for that. I think you've done a great job with it. Although I don't know the US market for these cars (I'm located in the UK) I think with the right buyer you'd do OK with it. Question is, do you want to part with it? Looking forward to seeing what you do next with the channel!

So what was wrong with the old wheels if you don't mind me asking?
I have a 1972 model in Perth Western Australia and restored the Original Magnesium wheels and they look great, but I would much prefer the old steel wheels and the small center hubcaps that you bought your Alfa with originally 😁👍🏻

Just saw your fantastic job. Congratulations!
Why did you change from fuel injection to carburators?
Just curious because I importet in 1990 a 1979 fuel injection Spider from Nevada to Germany.

You did a great job and I enjoyed the vidoes. I bought a 1976 Spider in 1978 and drove it until 1995 as a primary vehicle. I loved it that car and would like to have a similar one now. Do you have any idea of the hours you put in it along with the money?

11k for a solidly restored classic Spyder is not bad at all. I suspect any similar car purchased for less would wind up needing at least some of the work you did.

Given that you have completely sorted out the car, it is well worth it. I think you could sell it easily for more than you have into it.

Hey there! I’ve been following your channel for a while now. When I bought the car a year ago I drove it home 6 hours, mid way through the trip it broke down as I lost acceleration and wouldn’t start. The carbs also sounded like they were spitting. After 30minutes it worked fine again.
Fast forward to today, the car is running lean and it has 0 compression in cylinder 2. No smoke or leaks.
Could it be burnt valves? What does it sound like to you? Just want to get an idea before I take back to a shop.

Is this car worth the money PLUS THE WORK? Defenitly not.
But: Those Alfa Spiders are Design Icons. They will be much more expensive in the future. Its one of the few convertibles that looks good with closed soft top.
