- Chemical dipping an Alfa Romeo 2000 spider! I’m getting this Alfa down to bare metal prior to its restoration. This is probably one of the rustiest cars I’ve ever dealt with. Let’s hope it makes it out of the tank!!!

Given that it's an Alfa, I was frankly quite surprised that it survived the power washer, let alone the acid dip 😆 Nice job.
Beat me too it. I was waiting for the chains to come out with nothing on the end of them 😅
Alfa Romeo did the most beautiful cars back in the days. Cars for rich people.
I'm surprised it didnt fold in half when it got picked up.
The Russian steel held up, somewhat.
And I thought Mazdas are the worst when it comes to rust.
I don't know whether to admire the owners of this Alfa or pity them for taking on this restoration. Wow.
PITY....
They'll spend $150,000 to end up with a nice $65,000 car. Alfa enthusiasts are difficult to under estimate.
@@truantray Where have you seen a restored one of these cars for 65K ?

I'm impressed on many levels...
1: it actually looked better in the end then I expected.
2: someone has to care about where this car is headed.
3: I'm glad you took on the project and showcased it.
4: I've seen similar and far worse in the woods in Kentucky and creeksides I'd hoped would have found this level of passion but usually you find bondo buggies at every corner. This one will likely get a true rejuvenation
This is a Touring built 2000 102 Spider. A truly beautiful car. Very concerned about the rotten floor board.❤
Its rarity makes the salvage practical
That is going to be a labour of love to restore. I would doubt replacement floor and boot/trunk would be available so someone would be in for a serious fabrication exercise. You would also have to think everything they unbolted would have to be in equal condition. Another great video, thanks for creating and sharing.
There is definitely going to be some intensive fabrication to get this thing back to normal. I appreciate you watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I would be great to see the restauration of this one!
A few people change their mind when they get what's left of the 'shell back. The prep by the owner wasn't encouraging- bits and pieces left on isn't the main issue, the lack of braces in the door apertures was very unwise..the only thing holding the car together was the rockers (sills), and they're not great.
They're lucky the bloody thing didn't fold in half. I searched this channel for what i thought would be the rustiest car; i saw alfa spyder in the heading....and wasn't disappointed.
It never gets old watching it
That’s really good to hear, thank you 🙂
And somebody wants this unholy nightmare ... ... why ?
"I would not want to be restoring this car." ya
Having restored a car 58 years ago by hand,no tools, I find these videos very gratifying. The process is very effective and belies how difficult a job it is, much respect to you.
How it never folded in half I'll never no . Good job
glad to see a proper, landscape video! :D
Normal for old Alfas, a real miracle that the body has still shape of a car.
I love seeing the inner structure of cars that otherwise I would never get to see.
Even if parts of it are gone, like this Alfa.
Great vid man! Glad that thing didn’t fold up like a taco! Love this content.
Nice . Good job you have done
Wow man awesome work like allways 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! That really means a lot
I liked this video, I always wanted to see how a car with a lot of corrosion looked after the metal had been treated, on this model I thought that when I was going to take it out of the bath, only the joker would come out hanging ... but for a restoration it is always more visible and faster to do the work.
very good, until next time.
The door sills look like they had been replaced sometime in the past. One thing for sure if they had been as strong as they seem that Alfa would have split in half.
I totally agree. When you end up with something this bad it's disingenuous to call it a restoration when it's finished in my opinion.
It's a rebuild.
I watched a video of a Chevelle "restoration" where they had to replace both quarters, both fenders, inner fenders, both door skins, trunk lid, floor and trunk pans, both bumpers, hood replacement ,tail lights, all new reproduction interior including the gauge cluster and console not to mention the car did not have its original drive train.
The only thing left that was original to the car besides the frame was the top and the firewall.
In my book when 90% of the parts have to be replaced that's not a restoration.
You haven't "restored" anything, just replaced everything.
You may have the paperwork, fender tag, and Vin # that identifies the car to be an original Chevelle super sport, but almost all the parts that made it an original are gone.
Just a pet peeves of mine. 😎
Great video as usual. Keep'em; comin'! 👍
Looks like the rocker panels were the best steel in it.
This is a great video!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Came out nice
Just looked over a 1962 Alfa 2000 that was restored. And being a bodyman myself, someone didnt do a complete job of blocking lets say. Anyway, it was likely a polished turd because there were only a few thousand of them ever built 60 years ago, and it sold for $100k.
excellent job of bringiing this wreck to bare metal.
Cool Brother 👍👍👍
Be real interesting to see it back together!
That thing wasn’t stored outside. It was stored at the bottom of the ocean! 😂, I can’t believe how clean you got that shell, I’d love to shake the hand of the owner for taking this on and double shake the fabricators hand that agrees to fix it! Amazing job, love your videos, I used to watch you in the clock app before I deleted that trash, glad to see you on UA-cam
It’s a good watch mate!
Hard boiled wonderland! The Joker is a tough dude! Great vid! 💯👍🫶
Thanks buddy!
When he fell out to join the death of the Alfa i laughed too hard.
@@MadSceintist He resurrectDEAD! 😜😉
Rock on love the videos
Surely that thing is absolute toast 😮
Ahhhh...the glamorous life of a dipper.
I had a mid 80s Spider. I bought it used for a reasonable price, but it cost a lot to maintain. I sometimes wish I had saved it. It was a lot of fun to drive. I have great memories driving it.
You did a Great job, Its not as bad as you think, They will cut all the floor, Fabricate,a new one, Or have a parts car, The body is a easy fix, Great work Guys
In the right hands, that’s gonna be a beautiful car when done. Shame can’t see it. Love the dippin. Ya start eatin the elephant one bite at a time….
Holy cow you flintsstone that car
Beautifull car ❤
Oh man its going to be a project to get the frame an panels replaced. But hopefully it turns out awesome
Another great video, it could only be described as ‘crusty’!
Wow...that is a lot of work...
All these Touring Alfas look like this. They were rusting from the factory. Mine was the same way. All hand built, so any panels are made and fitted. This one is prob one of the better ones imo, def better than mine…
Never seen anyone dip a vehicle before they scrap it. Lmao
🤣
After all this dipping and power washing do people get these item glass blasted? Probably get the rust panels cut out first. Fabricate new panels or whatever needed then blast. Great job as usual.👍
Blasting after this would be a negative and no need really
That's actually a brand new Alfa.
Everytime I see these vids, I have KITT vs the Acid Pit flashbacks,
I would love to see the restoration video on that
Wow I thought it was going to fold in half when you removed all that rust !
I hope those guys got some Deep Pockets to bring that Alpha back to life, they definitely going to need a lot of money for that floor front-to-back wow.😮
Once the tires go flat and they sink into the mud up to the axles the whole lower half of the car disintegrates. If a car is worth saving (jury's still out on this one) it's common to weld some angle iron bracing into the door openings to prevent the rockers from buckling. They can fold like a wallet when they get this bad.
Who’d have thought the Alfa had so much potential? No me, that’s a great result.
Тащемта очень хороший результат. Очень нравится. Молодец!👍
Thank you! I appreciate that
Floors, trunk floors are available. The rockers are an unusual mouthpiece internal design - very expensive to restore. Still, once restored, worth about 75 to 80 thousand.
Saw one for $129K
Last one of these I saw was on BAT for US$95k in 2019 and didn't hit reserve. Kinda feel the owner of this dip has more money than sense, but hey if they enjoy it it's their money and supports local businesses. Good luck to them!
I thought it was going to be just ropes that came up out of the tank... :) 🤣
Im surprised it didn't bend in half!
$100K+ car in good shape.
Hola como estas, buen video, que tipo de líquido es ,me gustaría hacerlo en Argentina.gracias
in Europe you get these between 60000- 80000 euros/dollars
Its a awsome beautifull car in italy there is all the panells for it, but they'not cheap but the car deserves it
I'm curious, How often do you need to change over the liquids in the big bath's? or is it filter it and refill with the same solution? Great video. I do enjoy watching a car return to its factory condition before it got dressed. Lol.
It would be nice if you showed how they continue to rebuild those cars. I guess it would take a lot of cooperation and maybe out of your control, but it would be nice.
There’s a channel on here where he’s restoring a e30 bmw that we dipped his channel is cheap rent fast cars. I wish more of the people I dip cars for were content creators so it would be easier to see the restoration process. I’m lucky if they send me a finished pic when I ask lol
I have one of 1959 2000 I bought in 1989. It was good runner. I replaced the floors and then had the whole body media blasted (walnut, baking soda, and some fine glass bead) to the metal. Perfect surface for a perfect paint job. I don't understand why anyone would pressure wash and acid bath it. That won't get all the deep stuff off the metal.
Funny reference "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"))))
I agree, I would not restore it either. I think the owner would have paid the scrap yard to take it. 😂😂😂
My uncle had one of those. It was a rust bucket too.
I’m surprised it didn’t melt in the acid. 😂🤣😆
There a magicians around which can fold, bent, stretch, deep-draw, joggle, ball-shape sheet-metal like leadplate.
They play with it, having a mild smile on the face.... The Alfa can be rebuilt by them.
Italian cars from that era were beautifully styled, great to drive and all that. But they rusted like nothing else 🤣, I am surprised that Alfa Romeo is not pure oxide if it was left outside for decades. Depends on the climatic region the vehicle was sitting, I live in Scotland which is similar to Oregon, so that Alfa sitting outside for 20 years would likely not even exist apart from axles engine, wheels and gearbox, the sheet metal would dislove. I have seen an old Fiat in a woodland here in Scotland that was abandoned in the 80's, it could only be identified from the engine block and valve cover with fiat written on it, the car remains were hard to see covered in moss and leaves and earth.
Only 3443 Spiders made..............Despite it rugged condition it's still a valuable car.....
Would love to see the faces of the owners when they pick up their cars
Just needs a new bottom third.. replacing the entire flooring and sills will be a lot easier and more satisfying than just patching... Nice to watch
That seemed like a huge waste of money doing that Alfa Romeo. The owner must really, really love that car.
How ironic intentionally or unintentionally the Joker's going to end up in acid
I'd have supported that in the middle under the sills as well as where your rope is.
Hey what happens if a chain breaks for some reason and you are splashed with that liquid? Can you quickly wash it off or the damage is immediate? It makes me nervous seeing you recording so close to the objects while they are being lifted
The acid ate a lot of the rusted metal. Looks a lot cleaner but loads more missing metal lol
with HDR this car pops
This car obviously sat in the dirt for years always looks like this when that happens. There is no way that car can effiently be repaired relative to market value, unless i missed something special about it. Maybee....
Nieghbor collected alphas and sold out to a guy in oklahoma, he made two trips up for the parts collection. One of his cats was very similair to this, if not the same. I was a kid and only saw it once. I believe referred to it as the spyder. That is a european term for vert, but may have been an alpha model too. Not sure. They are neat cars. Early use of aluminum and dohc.
Surprised there’s anything to dip being an Alfa!!
Must have serious sentimental value. The restoration will cost twice what that car is worth.
Couple of weekends and that'll be back on the road!😀
This is not just any old Alfa Spider.
Cars like this are through the roof, value-wise.
It will cost a fortune to restore, and will be worth a fortune when it's done.
I'mn stunned the body wasn't cleft in twain by the pressure washer;)
At least it comes out of the acid bath in one piece.
Leave it in 😊
Sorry, Question.... Do you ever see the finished products once they have been rebuilt? Have any of them ever made you "wow" just from what you had seen to what is put in front of you?
At this point, I think people are buying old rusty cars JUST to watch them get dipped. Also, it's not that rusty for an Alfa Spider but it's already been totally restored 2 times before. I genuinely believe Alfa Romeo used 50% seltzer alloy for their cars back then.
😂
they were made from Russian steel, pre-rusted for your convenience. There was no full body paint protection... If you remove a fender from these or a Fiat Spider, you'll see bare metal.
It took the acid dip a lot better than I thought with the low-quality Soviet steel and non-existent rust-proofing of the Italian auto industry when it was made. I expected it to break apart when lifting out of the dip.
Wow! So so rusty
That is an Alfa in good condition
I don't know what pressure your washer is using, but I suggest at least 5,000 psi with the spinner/turbo tip and about 4-5 gpm. If you can find one, a 7,000 psi washer is better. We used pressure washers to clean bridges prior to painting them by overcoating. We experimented with higher washing pressures from 10,000 to 40,000 psi, but there are worker safety requirements for washer pressures above 5,000 or 7,000 psi (I'm not certain about those regulations. Higher washing pressures will sometimes save you a re-dip. Keep your stand-off distance between the turbo-tip and the workpiece at about 12 to 18 inches (max.). Keep the tip normal to the workpiece as best you can. A little slower tip movement will help move more tightly bonded paint and filler.
It looked fantastic when it was down to the original white.
This looks like one of these "restorations" where the steering wheel is the only thing they keep
I think an acid dip was probably an over aggressive approach in this case. I suspect an ice blast might have been better.
Joker approved
Gonna go out on a limb and say this is a parts car and they need a clean canvas to see what they have to use. Coming from a car paint and body guy.
I think that despite this looking crazy. some people do this for their company whereas they cut the car up use the shape of the car and create parts to be stamped for other similar model repairs.... i think that this would be a case like this for this one.
Someone has many hours of quality time cutting and welding coming up
And I’m glad it’s not me lol
I am surprised that so much of that Alfa is still there. Alfas are known to rust sitting on the showroom floor
Are the cars dipped in a tank of rust prohibibitor primer?
What year is it?
