Good choice, we own 4 spiders.....one is a 1971, 1750 like yours. Great to see younger generation's interest in these classics. They are wonderful, reliable cars.
Fantastic. Looking at the rubber floor mats remembered me something. I had an 1971 GTV 1750 with same type of mats. Made those shine with various stuff. One day, my my 80 year old mother tried to step in, slipped and ended between the chair and underneath the dashboard. Never in my life i've heard the language coming out of my mum, before starting to laugh and saying ; this stupid old car !
I would SO love to see someone with the means to re-make a classic Alfa using a composite structure body. Exactly like the original, just not prone to rusting away...and lighter to boot. If I had the means...I would do exactly that.
Great video. My favourite part was how excited you were to find the shift nob. I'd have been elated to find that too! That said, I enjoy your calm measured narration - when you are excited it's genuine : )
I watched the engine video first. I think it's really cool that you tackled this Alfa- it's a diamond in the rough for sure. One bit of advice that I can think of is to check the heater blower motor. It most likely is seized, but maybe not. It is buried behind the shifter, under the dash, so it's really hard to get to. Unless you are planning to remove the dash for refurbishment, now would be a good time to remove the heater box! I paid someone to do mine...wish I had done it myself, as it doesn't move much air. Subscribed!
Dude: you may have just bought the car I saw and wanted…617 area code is MA. I was born in ‘71 and this car was listed in my home town. I felt it was destiny but i’ve got way too much going on. Glad you are tackling it!
One caveat: You used leather conditioner on the seats, which are upholstered with Skai vinyl (leather was not available in 105 spiders until 1978). 303 Protectant would have been a better choice for the vinyl. BTW the original rubber floor mats are worth their weight in gold - new sets are over $800!
It always feels so good seeing unique cars getting restored. Personally I would have had the interior sandblasted and the hole welded shut, but I understand that those things are extreeeemely out of budget. Anyway, good job. Subbed!
New subscriber. That was great ! It's what I imagine I'd be doing if I bought a project. And yes, I'd read several times on BAT that the 1750 cc engine is the one to have. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Hello from Prague, CZ
My Alfas ;two 1973 Spiders and a 1974 GTV, always had bad transmission synchros. I hope yours is ok. They are pretty easy to replace, you can do it yourself.
Careful with those door handles- they are as fragile as glass and expensive as diamonds. I would put some foil backed sound insulation on the floors and buy 4 speakers for the console and rear panel.
"No Rust!" - The only time you would see the words Alfa Romeo and "no rust" in the same sentence, is if you were trying to say something like "No rust, is not something you'd ever say about an old Alfa". I've had 4 Alfa's in my time and I'm still in financial and emotional recovery. I am an Alfaholic.
@@davidsherrick898 in fairness, my 75 (Milano in US) was fine for corrosion too, it was just the continual minor mechanical issues that meant I was spending £500 a month on it. And due to circumstances, it was not even worth £1k when running, (I bought it from someone who couldnt even shift it at auction). And as I was earning £900 a month, and my Rent was £400, you see the issue....
Floorpans riveted in? That scares me. It would not be considered a proper job on this side of the pond. Otherwise I am curious to follw your project :-)
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime!
It's a good simple design, able to fix yourself, only the engine is complex and weirdly constructed. We did see these cars in Amsterdam for cheap, nobody needed them when you could buy a cheap 912 Porsche too, now, they are all gone, exported ? Israel PLO talks, Habib, when was that, they never did any restore back then.
Awesome project!
Greetings from an Alfa fan from Brazil!
Heroic job but I think you may have been remiss by not adding some sound and heat shield before installing floor mats. Keep up the good work
Nice job on the car and great editing too!

"Mentally" Great humor ! "Mechanically Challenged"
You got so lucky finding that car for that price amazing I have a 1986 they are fun cars..
Fantastic.

I like the pragmatic approach so far.. looking forward to part 2
Man..terrific job on undertaking this monumental task..i have a 86 Graduate👌👍

What a super fun start to your project!
Looking great!

I like that you reused the old rubber mats. Looking forward to the engine episode.
4:19 “let’s get these old rear carpets out.” Pulls out drill* 😂
Old cars are pain

Yup! Thats the car! Its definitely a huge project.
That's a great little find, and your delivery (and sound quality) is improving with every video. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Great video, looking forward to the next one!
Love this
Nice work so far. Not so sure about the glued-in patch, though; seems a bit sus.

you beat me to it ! my old 105 was in a plastic vinvl!
the rubber mats always come up with boot polish and some elbow grease with brushes!!

I used an air chisel. the sound deadening came right off. Unlike a regular chisel.

Maybe on a new one. My 1988 Milano is ok, just a couple spots

I'm late to the party but when I did my floors I used a heat gun to soften the rubber floor mats
What’s that product you used to glue that panel

I agree, I don’t think the USA 🇺🇸 has mot stations like the U.K. and Europe .
No sound dead mat for the floor?
Wow six grand? What's that like? My cars are worth hundreds of dollars. Good bones, great results.
Leather conditioner on vinyl seats?!!
any new updates?
No offense, but nowhere does 3M say you can use 8115 over rust.
shame you couldn't get it back to bare metal before painting...i guess its better than leaving it in the condition you found it though...
Check with “ pan the organizer” before you do any more detail work.

You might want to throw on some hearing protection when using that scaler.....WHAT?.... you might want to, ..oh, never mind,
Lucky freaking bastage.
