- After years in stasis, DOD and DigiTech are back on the scene. We're joined today by none other than the Tom Cram, creator of Spiral Electric FX, and wizard of DOD and DigiTech fame. On our first live in well over a month, we're excited to have Tom on the show and hear about how he got brought back into the DOD/DigiTech world!

First: this is the best episode of your web show ever! I am so proud to call Tom a friend! Some time after Tom started at Harman he and I started "geeking out" about recording consoles and studio stuff. I was working for the Allen & Heath division at the time, and I knew that I had found a friend for life! This announcement for DOD/Digi is the best thing to happen in years! Makes me sad that I'm not part of team, but I'm too old for that anyway. Between DOD/Digi and Spiral the world is in for some amazing stuff!
Yay! Tom’s DOD and Digitech stuff was always cool! If the Hardwire line can come back, in whatever form it may take, that would be great too!
If DigiTech could re-issue the Space Station I'd be sooooooooooooooo happy. Timebender was amazing too.
Or just make a next generation with more wacky settings.
@@Dungeon_of_Regret yeah reissuing it without more functionality would be real lame
@@G.GordonMidi Presets and MIDI implementation for sure. 😎
Some of the parts/elements of the Space Station are unavailable A new or alt Space Station maybe I would be so happy as well
Yes, Remake the XP 100 too! That KoRn reached out to them to team up on that and they turned them down is amazing to me, they turned down a chance to print free money basically.
Always here for Tom Cram!
He's a beautiful soul
@@jhspedalsfaux jazz. Mo' faux jazz, over lite conversation or selected poetry.
My favorite guests are ones that just keep going and going. A fountain of history and information.
Also nerd jazz was absolutely incredible.
My first ever pedal was a DOD fx 59 trash master, that was given to me by my uncle. It's amazing, especially on bass, and it makes me really happy to see DOD coming back in the game!
Long live the RV-7 (Lexicon-based) reverb, the Drop, the Mosaic and the FreqOut! They are outstanding brushes for us artists to render beautiful paintings.
I don't hear much about the Mosaic these days, but it's the first pedal I ever bought. I wanted to emulate the 12-string sounds of REM, The Byrds, Beatles, etc., and it remains the best pedal for that.
This was fricken awesome! Thank you to everybody involved, ya'll rock🙌🤘🙌
That was fun!
Glad to see everyone back! It was a long January...
Happy to see DOD/ Digitech back and moving forward, too.
as a DOD fan and as someone who has nothing but respect for Mr Cram, its a joy to see DOD back with Tom at the helm
JHS Show, what a way to come roaring back. I've got the Cram Chartreuse 250, it's killer. Freqout is a joy. Rubberneck is a temple of creation. Carcosa swallows time! D O D not DOA. All hail!
Well worth the wait!! You bringing this news to light is actually music to my ears!
Great jams on this episode! I am stoked to see DOD and DigiTech back!
Tom is a man of his word. He's great to his customers! I own his Spiral FX "Secret Chord" pedal.
Best mild-overdrive/dirty-boost I have ever used-- or heard, for that matter!
Tom is awesome. I bought #33 of his first 100 overdrives, before he had to change the name to Spiral. Also, his wife Dawn was nice enough to share some tips on knob casting in resin so I could make my own knobs. Thanks for this episode. So glad DOD is back. I have all four of the large box originals (Phasor, Flanger, Chorus, and Analog Delay), plus Overdrive Plus, Digital Delay, analog Delay, Stereo Flanger, Stereo Chorus, and Classic Fuzz. A favorite brand for a long time.
Yeah, 250 times YEAH!!! Great News! Tom is an amazing guy with great stories! Hope to see him more often on the show! Long live DOD! 🤩🎸🤘
Great show and glad to have y’all back! Keep up the great work!!!
Carcosa is my favorite fuzz box of all time. I bought it on a whim at a pawn shop and I'll never sell it. It's a monster of a box.
Dude. That thing’s rad. My brother has one and I’ve almost stolen it on several occasions. It sounds great and has ties to one of my favorite seasons of television in the history of television. And guitar pedals.
Absolutely my favorite fuzz.
Replaced 3 gain stages from my gigging board. Love it.
It had too many knobs for me, I was always tweaking it... but, what an awesome pedal. WAY more than a fuzz - I used to use it to make a clean Marshall sound like an overdriven Vox, which was nuts :)
I have 10 fuzz pedals including some really “great” ones. Carcosa is the one that is always on my board.
I have a carcosa. Not a big fuzz guy but that's one that appeals to me. Great pedal. Also got the jhs mod op amp big muff
That was awesome! Tom is a great guy.
Indeed!
@@jhspedalsyou brought out the Space Station and didn't play it?
Turn Nick loose with it, with Belle playing keys thru pedals too.
I'm so happy that DOD and Digitech are back!!! been my favorite pedals since high school when I started with an Rp50 or something like that. Now have the carcosa, ice box, 250, some of the hardwire pedals, and the multi chorus. So ahead of there times. So thankful. My bassist talked me into getting the 2010's jamman, its so useful for out rehearsals
I’ve waited so long for you guys having Tom Kram over 😊 so glad it’s finally happened. Definitely one of my all time pedal designers! His love for art is just so inspiring, and hearing him talk about literature was just awesome. DOD guys please consider reissuing (or redesigning) a new Dod Grind pedal I gotta have that 🥰
Great episode and great news! All the best to Tom and the crew!
You guys saved my Friday. Thank you!!!
Great to see them back. DOD and Digitech effects have always been in my set-up
DOD is the RCA of pedals, there before everyone else and no one was ready.
America's Pedal!
Super sweet!! Glad to see them back. These are the first pedals I collected. I have atleast one of each model, most with box, paperwork, and battery cover. They should create replacement battery covers.
Good to have you guys back on YT!
Really fascinating hearing Tom talk - thanks guys!
This so awesome. I was lucky to get a Carcosa and a Gunslinger and I really like the direction they were going with those 2 pedals. Cortec produces some nice quality guitars and they know how to put emphasis on quality so this is very hopeful.
The DOD Milk Box and the Digitech Bad Monkey were two of my favourite pedals for years.
Same here. Love the Milk Box.
Bad monkey is a highly coveted pedal... That amp sim out is great. I have the screaming blues and I use the amp sim out on my looping board to the pa direct
@@Dlogreen I always wanted to try the Bad Monkey. The Echo FX (tape delay sim)is not bad - and ditto for the Icebox chorus. I like the Vibro Thang, but it requires some serious tweaking to get the right sound.
No reissue, just progressions. ✊🏽
Totally in for the ride. 👊🏽
Welcome back DOD & DigiTech.
Glad to hear they’re back and as always, thanks for the history lesson. Growing up a DOD mini chorus 460 my dad has was one of the first pedals I remember. Playing in a band later, a digitech rp21d was my first gear purchase. Not fun menu diving, but that thing could do a ton and sounded good especially with some tube swapping
This is awesome! I remember walking into a store in the mid 90's and plugging in a DOD Death Metal and going whoa! Holy crap. Still my favourite unapologetic distortion pedal. Hopefully it can return in some way too.
The background jam while Tom and Joshua were chatting was so good. Loved it
That intro jam was epic, just like so many of your jams. Some day I will muster up the courage to post my jams and remixes of them
What wonderful news! Best wishes to all for a wonderful future.
Yoooooo. That's awesome. Carcosa is def a legend of a fuzz in its own time, and the frequout, the rubberneck, the gunslinger, all so good. Glad to see the dream team back
Did you say Cor-Tek? Dont they make guitars for PRS, the SE range?
Just amazing news, I'm so excited for Tom and the old team to be back at it!
I know! It's awesome!
I'm elated that they're back, they were my go to source for effects, tone wise they beat the pants off of the Boss stuff, and I absolutely love the stuff Tom was doing before halted production. 💥💥💥
I own six DOD/DigiTech pedals, and they are all terrific. Here's to hoping the new offerings live up to their stellar reputation.
I'm sure they will!
Wow. Great show excited for the future of DOD.
Great to see Tom!
One of my very favorite pedals OF ALL TIME is the DOD classic fuzz. That little metallic orange monster sounds HUGE.
This is wonderful news. As a fan of both Cort and DigiTech gear, I think this is great news for both brands.
For those who love & use compessors, for me, the DOD 280 Comp is my all time fav comp. Holds on like a saltwater croc and has very little "bloom" at the end of the note which seems to plague many other comps I have used over the years. Had one of the originals that was stolen and now one of the updated versions which to my ear is as good (if not better) as the original I previously had. Good to see that DOD is back again ......... 🎸
Good to have you back guys, i really missed your jams. Glad to see that Digitech is back, they need to re-release the X-Series. Those pedals were really good.
I got my second pedal maybe a month or two ago, the x-series multichorus, i really like it
You guys are awesome. That's all there is to it.
a revamped spacestation with parameter controls that do different things depending on the preset and maybe some lfo/envelope options is something i've dreamed about for years
ohmigod, I love the Ambrose Bierce/Robert Chambers lit review + jazz and steady cam!!!! It makes it feel like my English PhD was actually worth it. Very touching!
Oh man, this is great news. I still have and use the DOD FX40 equalizer (no battery cover), my Whammy 4 from 1999, and love the Obscura and Freqout pedals. I even still use the old Digitech jam man, hah. Digitech and DOD stuff was always so much fun to create with. 👍
woohoo! Love my Carcosa, Obscura Polara and Brute Fuzz, it'll be great to finally get hold of some of those DOD classics.
Come for the Cram, stay for the Jam😎
The Carcosa led me to find out about the works of Ambrose Bierce and Robert Chambers. Webpage at the time had no description on the pedal, and just made me more curious, which pulled me into a total fascination with the King in Yellow. Thank You Tom Cram.
Is there anyway the digital effects, once the parts can be sourced again, could ever be made into a multi-mural-effects pedal, kinda in competition with the TC Plethora?
The lounge jam over the Chambers Lovecraft dialogue was just amazing.
FX10 Bi-Fet Preamp - Amazingly useful little pedal. Picked one up new many years ago for something like $40, for use with acoustic guitar pickups. Sold it when I moved to more complex solutions. I've regretted parting with it! I recently had a need for it with an electric (wanted a simple buffer in front of my volume pedal), and was startled to find that used ones sell for $150. One thing I loved about it was that the buffer was always on, so you had two buffered tones available. -Tom
I would love to see some of the FX series come back in some way, specifically, the FX-65 Stereo Chorus. I have never heard another chorus pedal that sound like it, especially when connected to two amps. There's just something a little different in there with the delay control. Thanks for doing this Josh.
I've wanted DOD to bring out a pedal with their Pixellator effect from the DOD Tec4x and SpaceStation for decades. The Pixellator was a fabulous arpeggiating bitcrusher. And I've never found anything that worked like it since.
Strong work Tom! Keep it up amigo!!!
this episode is definitely worth the wait
this is how all live streams should be. love the Devo Jam. Props to the backing band
My Hardware RV-7 is always in use. My first new pedal was a DOD Phasor when I was in Elementary school. I love this.
Oh. I pulled out my FreqOut to show a client. It’s going on my new board.
This particular episode floored me. Just to hear how passionate Tom was and remains about pedals is inspiring. The pedal industry is indeed tiny compared to the kind of product and revenue volumes of the name brands that sit inside our homes. As my wife often says, it’s not how big it is, it’s all about how much passion and gain stages you use.
A great episode. Thanks for doing this.
Your wife should get a Grammarly account.
Does that mean you’re my wife?
Scintillating convo. Thank you.
Awesome love this
I loved the lounge jam to classic weird fiction. Also, my first effects pedal was the DOD Super American Metal.
So glad to see this development. My DOD 250 is always on my board. 😎👏
Bass grunge is a great pedal. I put masking tape across the bottom of the knobs and wrote what the knobs really do. DOD is great. Thanks for a good show
I’d love to see the Hardwire line come back, and the nostalgia in me wants to see the Grunge and my first guitar pedal, the Supra Distortion, come back as well.
The best Digitech pedal for me is the Freqout. The most fun and useful pedal in years...
My Digitech delay/phrase sampler is my favorite pedal. It's an amazing looper and the delay has so many options. Incredible.
“Jazz is already nerdy enough” …absolutely hilarious!
Dod and boss were the first pedals I wanted. I'm the same age as Josh, so we both grew up wanting them. I'm glad to see them back.
OMG! That is so awesome~! I Want Some Bass Pedals!!!!!!!
I felt lost one could say, while the pedals were away. Almost like I was stuck off on a deserted island somewhere.
It is hard for me to sell pedals because I have a bad habit of selling the good ones. I had a dirty robot, sold it, had a King of Tone I bought for cheap, sold it. I am scared of selling but now I have way too many pedals, I am going to end up like Josh one day
My favorite thing is Tom and Joshua talking about religion and literature. Feel free to do more rabbit trails like that.
Best video in a long time.
The FX 7 was awesome back in those days. The ability to put a gate on the grunge distortion made it so much more articulate. I played in hardcore bands in high school during the 90’s using only an FX 7 & a Vox wah. I had an Ibanez Joe Satriani & a Peavey combo amp. Those were the days
Amazing interview!!
This news is awesome. I hated it when I first heard how Tom and crew got the boot after releasing IMO some of the best designed pedals in DOD/Digitech's history. I was like WTF?! The Boneshaker is an epic distortion pedal for bass guitar. The Gunslinger, Looking glass, Rubber Neck...
All killer pedals!
Great episode and VERY good news! Only one word about the Gonkulator. It should have a noise gate built in, as the chosen frequency is always sent to the pedal's output. You can hear it in the video and believe me as subtle this synthetic frequency comes across in the video as annoying it is in real live. That's why the Gonk with a noise gate after it is in a switchable loop on my board.
Thanks for this! I gotta say if Tom Cram wasn't involved in this new incarnation I would have completely written off the new DOD/Digitech!
wow, i never saw Tom before. I had to reach out to him a couple times on tour for my guitar player and stuff. neato
We've all been there , wanted to buy something so expensive we had to come up with "it's for my birthday, overhours, being a good dad, buying flowers that one day, growing a mustach...
I love this channel.
Drum mix sounds amazing on this video
My only DOD is the old Milk Box compressor-but I like and use it all the time (bass). Best wishes to both of you. 👍
The Rubberneck is my all-time fav delay. Amazing analog sound with every option you'd want, designed in a way that's user friendly.
Daddy/Josh, Please don’t leave us again. We promise to be good.
I think an update of the Digitech jamman looper would be amazing!
My favorite modern rock trio is back!
Ha ha! I had one of those space stations back in the early 90s. There was a few things that I really liked about it and a whole bunch of stuff that I just didn’t even touch. Right now my favorite delay unit is a Digitech Obscura. It really sounds amazing in the build is high quality.
I have a lot of love for Digitech. The GSP-21 and then the RP350 were my mainstays for many years. The JML2 was my first looper (only recently to be replaced by the Line6 DL4 Mk2). The Trio & the Freqout are great too.
Loved DOD pedals, easy stomp activation and the LED told you if it was on or off before you hit a note
This is huge exciting news!!
My FX75C Stereo Flanger lives on my pedalboard so that I can make sitar noises for songs like Paint it Black. I have not found anything that does it better. This needs to be updated and released!
Just got myself a Timebender. Amazing pedal. If it was polyphonic and had double the memory slots that would be a killer re-issue. May need JHS most underrated delay pedal episode to explain why everyone needs one though.
I used to have a DigiTech RP 355 which introduced me to a wide range of effects. I currently have a DoD Looking Glass which is one of my favorite overdrives.
PS, I remembered the name of the Gonkulator Ring Mod Pedal, just from the sound! I always wanted one… I’m so happy for Digitech and all involved!!!
I missed you
