Like: The setting, the number of Ork sculptors they inspired and provide a living for. Dislike: The way they treat GW employees, the disdain they have for hobbyists, the disdain they have for their own established lore, the fact they still consider themselves industry leaders despite getting mogged by third party proxies.
Codex’s has to be what I hate the most. The fact that a £30 book is almost immediately outdated is super upsetting and also if u dont care about the lore part u effectively only need 10 pages or so. Its especially frustrating if u get a bad codex rules wise. Favourite thing is the super cool stories you can create while playing. Having a group of abominants beat abaddon to death was pretty funny.
I believe in the future all main rules should be just free online. Save codices for lore and crusade. Then they might actually start putting some effort into them
@@catcadev and wanting to separate game systems and their models. Horus Heresy vs 40k for example, GW did a massive backflip on support for heresy models in 40k.
Most of my problems with GW and Warhammer can be glossed over with properly priced models. I can play better games that don’t update monthly and are free. But I’m not buying a Beast Snagga Army when the final price is $500. Two at $600-700 though, I could easily justify it to myself.
This is why I play orks The models are not mega detailed but still detailed enough to make every kit unique So fairly simple to paint Plus I love kitbashing
What I enjoy about Warhammer is that given it is so multifaceted, you have so many options to engage with it. I was initially all lore, but now I'm really into painting models. I also enjoy reading the balance updates and the rules of 10th and older editions. Whenever I get bored I can just pivot to another aspect and I'm still engaged
Warhammer is not too expensive when you're very slow like me. A single dude is between 10-30 dollars but I'll put 7 or more hours into one of them (scraping mold lines, assembly, basing, prime, paint, decals, varnish). The time cost way outweighs the money cost of the figurines in my opinion. Although some special characters and vehicles are pretty expensive
Holy shit you're right about the community, I just was reminded by your words of when I straight up bought a kid the Starter Kit with the 3 Infernus Marines and paints so he can start the hobby
I love the Lore of Warhammer 40K, after I got annoyed with the tabletop game I branched out into many other systems like Warpath, Firefight, Bolt Action, Deadzone etc but the strange thing is I didn't feel as invested emotionally in those games as I did with my Warhammer 40K stuff. But one thing I really hate is the prices, especially being in Australia where we pay so much more for stuff and for reasons I don't know. I also dislike GW's Business model of flavor of the month with codex creep and new releases, and the three year turn around for new editions.
The reason I stopped buying GW was the FOMO after I waited a minute too long on the Shadowvaults Kill Team set and missed out. It started eating into my other hobbies to the point where I felt worried something (like lego) would instantly sell out if I didn’t preorder within the minute. Its such a shame that I had to completely cut it out, but I genuinely couldn’t handle the worry it gave me.
Love: lore, model quality, hobbying + painting, casual games with general mission parameters Hate: how fast the rules change, particularly in 10th edition. 9th was my introduction and while there were some patches dropped along the way like the “armor of contempt” that was not a strat it was not changed so frequently that I was actually missing something come game day. Now there’s multiple levels of rules and commentary on them, and somehow I get surprised after I move some models mid game that “first level walls are always blocked” and “you can’t fire over watch if you can’t see them before they move” when they’re literally charging your unit
I've only ever played tabletop 4th edition. Back then, the game was a lot slower and more complicated -- but somehow simpler at the same time. I miss vehicles having different armor values for the front/sides/back. I REALLY miss blast markers and having to roll directional dice to see how badly your artillery missed.
GW reminds me a lot of the gaming industry. Constant releases to sell as much as possible. Forced redundancy with unit compositions ( whether this be through unit size, weapon options, or a new sculpt). 3 year release cycles to reset the codex creep. I wouldn't be surprised if they retire some primaris kits like they did with some of the sigmarines. Whilst my complaint is technically about the price, its more about the value of what you get. Even if you account for inflation i don't feel as if the consumer has been compensated for the amount they get for what they pay (especially at MSRP). Another complaint of mine is the narrative of the setting. We all know that a big character comes back at the end of an edition (*fulgrim kicks open the door and meets Leman russ ) and a xeno's faction clashes heads with the imperium. A shiny new starter box is produced and I accidentally have a new army 🙃............. I truly believe we will only see real change when the ' more warhammer, more often' bubble begins to burst. I honestly can't see this happening for a decade at least, especially with the revenue generated through licensing. (Space marine 2, and the amazon series if that goes ahead). Although, we have seen some signs of backlash and mishaps from GW. Broken Votann codex in 9th, overproduced product like the kroot, dominion, and skaventide boxes. Errors on data cards when first released. Rules Errata in a separate document for some reason. A level of standardised design philosophy for marines with the divergent chapters. Cursed city was cursed with its release. Also Blackstone fortress got pulled from the store with no announcements of it being retired. Warhammer fest in the UK was a mess the other year from what I saw online. Admittedly, this isn't going to bankrupt the company anytime soon, but does show some level of poor planning. If you are reading this thank you for getting through my essay 😆
What I like/hate about warhammer is just the sheer level of production. especially lately. drinking age resin/metal minis getting sniped left and right. for better and worse. new vespid look great. coteaz not so much. same is true for rules as well. Ive heard absolutely no complaints about spearhead. apparently, its one of the tightest, most well balanced and fun ways to play sigmar. but we also get inquistorial rhinos that can hold 12 chimeras but 0 terminators. I would really like at this point for GW to slow down a bit and invest in some quality control. we have enough new stuff as is. I know you, the reader of this comment, have unpainted minis and a codex you havent even read. I see you.
I got into tabletop during pandemic in late 8th edition after more than a decade of being a fan of the 40k universe via videogames and lore reading. At first I was much more interested in playing the game treating painting as necessary evil. But now I grew to hate playing due to GW constant rules changes, non existent balance for the factions and frankly having a shockingly bad luck with dice. But I found great joy in building and painting models.
Honestly, the story of hobby in recent time's has been how i stopped worrying and started to play Kill Team. I'll still be collecting my Drukhari, Imp Guard, AdMech and Sisters but as far as playing goes i am done with main game 40k. I got to try Kill Team a month ago and have played many times since, its straight up just the better game. It also allows me to paint my little guys with extra love without feeling like its wasted time on a mere infantry model.
I agree with the point about painting details, as someone who can hardly keep small specs of colour from ending up on the wrong bit of the miniature. Sometimes I’ll finish building a model and think how the hell am I going to paint all the tiny trinkets and details without making the model look like a colour blindness test 😂
I base the whole sprue and do as much painting as I can before I even trim the parts. I'm not great at fine details, so a lot of stuff just gets dry-brushed and ink-washed.
my biggest gripe right now is how my toys are less cool than other toys as a vanilla sm player I'm having a hard time with how divergent chapters get so much cool stuff, back in 9th we had cool stuff too but so much got sent to legends and we lost unique rules
Will say my main dislike has been the price, but that's a basic answer. Another has been some of the new blood angels models. I love a lot of them like lemartes and astorath, but the new guard are disappointing and just going to buy a lot of older bits and mix them with the new. Have a good handi, and I can't wait to see you hit 8k subs.
Love the miniatures, but yeah I dislike that they are cranking the prices up without justifying the inflation aspect... inflation is down, why are prices going up lol
I played my first ever game with Knights last week and oh my god was it a blast (pun intended), it was a small 1000 point game but me and my Paladin did some DAMAGE
Honestly they really fumbled with cortez just looking at the other inquisitor models his looks more like an unnamed inquisitor than a named one. Hell id prefer fyador Karamazov over this.
The minis and setting was what I loved with the old world and 40k but these prices, things getting thrown in the legends zone, constant updates on rules especially with 10th, rules updates not being in one easy to access spot making it an absolute nightmare, warhammer+ just all of it. All these things made me not care about what I've loved for about 18 years now. But hey it's kicked off an addiction to games like Battletech, Infinity, and dystopian wars so that's good.
My main engagement with the hobby these days is Total Warhammer 3 (I'm a total noob with BARELY over 1,000 hours in single player campaigns). I LOVE building and painting models, but 40K just can't compete with Gunpla when it comes to value per dollar.
Ya know it's funny hearing about model railroading since my dad is apparently decently big in the online scene for n-scale stuff on that. I have yet to ever ask him for any tips haha
Codex’s have become the big blocking point for me. I can give some slack to model prices but codex prices considering the way the written rules are almost immediately changed, the reused assets in the codex’s, and the lack of a unified official resource to check codex specific rules really frustrates me. To be more positive I love the models and generally have fun assembling and painting the minis, Warhammer got me into kitbashing and customizing my models so I will always appreciate that. But with all my other options I find myself stepping back from Warhammer games and I’m worried that at some point my interest in their settings will disappear as well.
Passion is equal parts love and hate. Pretty much how I look at fandoms. People get angry about star wars and warhammer and all the other franchises because they love them so much. But GW doesn't just annoy you, they force you to pay. Still having to pay for codexs is ridiculous when Gw's other games like Sigmar and killteam don't, nor do other entire franchises need to pay for their rules.
3rd party minis were a life saver for fantasy players after end times. i still love some ranges and with 3d printers making your own models is becoming more and more of a option for people. i still love warhamemr GW though, we have a complicated relationship
I love the basing and painting a lot more than assembly. Hatred is allocated to price cus......sheesh.... edit: Oh and the fact that they dont release anything in a TIMELY MANNER. Four months since the old mandrakes were banished to the past and the new mandrakes were 'released'.........four months to release a squad that you havent been able to acquire from official sources since.
I hate how stingy GW is with things, whether it's how much paint i get in a pot or how long a codex is viable for it all feels like they WANT me to pirate as much of their content as I can. Also, for God's sake, someone actually proof the wording for rules, the amount of time I spend trying to figure out the difference between having Line-of-Sight vs obscured in killteam is insane. Also, get rid of wound rolls for 40k proper, the reason I switched to KT is because I don't want to spend a full 5 hours playing a game of 40k when I get tabled first turn because have the toughness of wet paper. Crackle paints are cool tho. damn I really wish I could say something GOOD about gw :')
Just commenting on the title the video, I truly agree that Warhammer is a love and hate relationship. I love the game and the models, hate how expensive everything is
My like about the hobby is trying new things. A new paint, a new scheme, a new brush, a new type of model, a new basing technique. I want to eventually try everything so I can say "Yeah, I've tried that." What I dislike is how the game is so centered around the small percentage of players that play in tournaments and end up being super competitive meta chasers and force constant rules changes. I barely get time to play a game as it is, please don't make me have to relearn things after only one or two games.
Like all things Blood Angels. Dislike new Sanguinary Guard that is now only 3 models per unit, look like assualt intercessors, have no wings, and have no nipples. Also, dislike the new Death Company.... they're just primaris assult intercessors. No... I'm not salty. Keep up the great videos my friend!
I dislike how quickly the rules are changed/updated barely have enough time to learn all the new changes and rules before new ones drop, why I'm getting into old world they'll be no six months updates there hopefully
Yes you have 1 warlord titan but what about a 2nd one. You know you always got to field atleast 2 or 3 of an unit. I like the models and lore. Painting is a lot more time consuming compared with my Star Wars legion models. Far more small details and bling on warhammer. I am a BA guy. So at the moment im unsure what to feel about the new releases aka our trade mark units (characters look great to fine). As im a returning player most of my collection is legends atm xD which sucks but i understand why some units are gone.
I hate that they've started locking new character models into army boxes with a bunch of stuff that you probably already have. Even if you're new to the hobby a $200+ box is daunting for most people who are just getting started.
Good vid. Engagement for the UA-cam abominable intelligence. The community is simultaneously the best and worst part of Warhammer - as said in the video, it's great for finding out how to do things, helping people and generally being supportive. On the opposite hand MY GOD can they be absolutely whinny pricks that never let anything go at times, yes please tell about how much you hate AOS for the 5678695th time, age of shitmar am I right? No GW don't hate your faction because they released a underwhelming codex. For the most part it's good, but you really have to curate what parts of the fandom you engage with.
Like: the lore, the game, building and painting minis Dislike: prices, sweaty people at the game shop, my pile of shame, activist hobby tourists demanding the lore be changed to suit them
Love: amazing looking miniatures, orks and nids, no limitation to the action scenes, tonns of different characters, cool stories and well written tradgedies, funny skeleton metal men, fun and terror of orks, humiliating cosmic horror of the tyranids, the kroot. Hate: old and dead memes (failbaddon the armless, hate on the tau, the admech toast, the kriegshovel), toxicity in fandom, fans shittalking every other faction and even franchise like star wars, the imperial fandom glorifying racism, religious fanatism, opression and bullying, GW not allowing fan animations or games, never listening to the fandom and only doing the whole thing to sell the miniatures, leaving the franchise with a soul, yet no heart, no central message or purpose for anything beyond the commercial stuff, which makes it so much weaker than many other franchises. You do not really learn something from the stories and it leaves an almost devastating feeling of senselessness, which would fit the grim-dark of warhammer 40k, if it wasnt so frustrating and such a problem to the entire franchise. Sorry for rambling.
Rulebooks are the most antiquated thing they do imo. They also cost too much for everything. I can buy 32mm 3d printed minis from companies with incredibly small production capabilities in comparison to GW for $15 that are durable with a lot of detail. Sure not as much as GW, but when it's the same scale and almost the same level of detail as a single character mini that costs $40+ then I get annoyed
“There is honestly no other company that comes close to the quality of miniatures that GW puts out” *Saying this while showing Forgeworld Resin* Oh baby girl… Who gaslit you so hard 😭?
Love: Minis, painting, building and kitbashing, playing with little toys on pretty terrain, making up lore, navigators, rogue traders. Hate: Memes, munny numbers, GW, the people around me, memes, Games Workshop, Horus Heresy, the fans, memes. The memes. And the people that laugh at them.
Here's my take on the 'PAINting miniatures' section. Painting is literally half or more of the hobby. I think that the competitive format is kinda dumb, as having a battle ready army that is 'Meta' is such a time based thing. If you find painting a chore, you should probably just buy less models and enjoy the process more, because having a 'finished' product sitting on your shelf is way more satisfying.
No its a hate hate relationship. Games workshop hates me as a fan and I hate them as a company. I stopped buying them shortly after buying a few toy soldiers which ran me several hundred dollars on small plastic molds alone. People who actually like to buy games workshop toys also like taking it up the ass because that's what good little paypiggies do. 3d printers man they exist.

Just commenting on the title the video, I truly agree that Warhammer is a love and hate relationship. I love the game and the models, hate how expensive everything is
Thinking a custodes ares would be a good end of year goal model.
Modern Corax White is actually really nice and has great covering power.
hmm might have to pick up a pot then for testing purposes
My like about the hobby is trying new things. A new paint, a new scheme, a new brush, a new type of model, a new basing technique. I want to eventually try everything so I can say "Yeah, I've tried that."
What I dislike is how the game is so centered around the small percentage of players that play in tournaments and end up being super competitive meta chasers and force constant rules changes. I barely get time to play a game as it is, please don't make me have to relearn things after only one or two games.
Great video Handi :)
I started playing orks because they were cool. Now look where it got me... (i have been suffering since 8th edition)
Wait until GW brings back the land trains. The entire model train crowd would become addicted to plastic crack.
Dangit one of the topics of my next video got leaked...
They did tyboros dirty also engagement time. Wow
Like: Models, kitbashing, painting, playing (narrative), lore...
Dislike: Prices, prices, WAAC players, rules bloat/change, prices, prices...
PADORU
what are the two thumb minis?
expleeen
ooooo venetari (gabagoo)
I love Warhammer, I hate James workshop
Even if you're new to the hobby a $200+ box is daunting for most people who are just getting started.
upgrade the end of the year challenge to a reaver titan
I love 40k. But I hate how my beloved Deathwatch got nuked from orbit.
5:05 SP CAB FORWARD SPOTTED 👀
Immediately bought it when i saw it a train show cuz those are rare AF in N scale
I think you should get a brass scorpion or kytan because there cool, but you don’t play chaos 👍
Im buying models Im interested more often than not now and scorpion has always been on the list
I think it would stand out very well on your pile of grey, good luck with what ever you buy
🔥🔥
We love their games and their models…we have their prices lol
I say as I’m eyeballing the dwarf army for old world.
Like: the lore, the game, building and painting minis
Dislike: prices, sweaty people at the game shop, my pile of shame, activist hobby tourists demanding the lore be changed to suit them
I sometimes worry about the future of the hobby. James Workshop isn’t getting any kinder these days.
What I mainly hate is abandoning miniature ranges like ogor maw tribes and eldar, Ogor maw tribes main models are 20years old!!!
When in doubt , play with trains : )
You should do a 24 hour painting challenge
god no
Rulebooks are the most antiquated thing they do imo.
“There is honestly no other company that comes close to the quality of miniatures that GW puts out” *Saying this while showing Forgeworld Resin*
Oh baby girl… Who gaslit you so hard 😭?
plastic, the dread is there because its cool
Love: Warhammer
Hate: Games Workshop
It s a toxic relationship with my wallet
👍 funny over priced models kits
Dislike: The eventual burnout, followed by the eventual manic devotion and addiction...
WOOOOOOOOO IMPERIAL KNIGHTS MENTIONED
Love: Minis, painting, building and kitbashing, playing with little toys on pretty terrain, making up lore, navigators, rogue traders.
Hate: Memes, munny numbers, GW, the people around me, memes, Games Workshop, Horus Heresy, the fans, memes. The memes. And the people that laugh at them.
Lets gooo engagement comment
S teir thumbnail
Something i don't like is that it seems they just won't make new models for some armys
Love: The (old) lore and the hobby
Hate: Games Workshop
i wish i could of gone back five years and tell my past self to get into warhammer while you still can
It really sucks how you can get copyrighted because you played videos for three seconds
I consider it more of a hate hate relationship since they ruined the imperial guard several times over on the tabletop.
The few times I've been able to play Warhammer it just takes too long to play
🔥🤘❤️
Okay if it's not war or Titan it's a river Titan okay okay okay
My hate part of the relationship has been solved with a resin printer. GW can suck it. What do we even need them for?
GW is my bad ex I keep calling ;)
Engagement comment
Here's my take on the 'PAINting miniatures' section. Painting is literally half or more of the hobby. I think that the competitive format is kinda dumb, as having a battle ready army that is 'Meta' is such a time based thing.
If you find painting a chore, you should probably just buy less models and enjoy the process more, because having a 'finished' product sitting on your shelf is way more satisfying.
How to play warhammer and not hate it. Steal from GW stores.
I dislike the kits, which are just the same and have barely any spare bits
No its a hate hate relationship. Games workshop hates me as a fan and I hate them as a company. I stopped buying them shortly after buying a few toy soldiers which ran me several hundred dollars on small plastic molds alone. People who actually like to buy games workshop toys also like taking it up the ass because that's what good little paypiggies do. 3d printers man they exist.
