Which mesmerises me because: TL:DR GW's worst enemy is GW. Books are not available... You can't recommend your favourite novel to someone because it's been sold out for what seems like forever😢 Compare that with the likes of something like Patrick Rufus, Stephen King, George R. Martin, Frank Herbert or J.K. Rowling and I assure you'll find what you're looking for. Albeit with the ugliest cover ever conceived comparing ebooks to physical ones doesn't help either. It's like comparing apples to pears, they aren't everyone's taste more so with people trying to reduce screen time and working on habits and stuff Black library prices don't feel right, and humble bundles won't include as many recommendations, they feel more like for people that go down the rabbit hole on their long list of fixations. I would now. So bundles end like poor man's choice sometimes or that commutes a lot or both
The TLDR is the CIA funded him, Andy Warhol, and other Modern Artists as a way to combat Realism, which was greatly popular in the Soviet Union. Nearly all pieces of Soviet era Realism had things like "meaning" and "class analysis", so obviously undesirable to the American government.

You raised a very interesting phenomenon. I think every minature collector suffers from them. There is a pressing internal need for another army. It used to be just another miniature, but times have changed. Fortunately, along with GW marketing technology, 3D printers have developed and we don't have to pay plastic crack to this dealer. As usual, great job btw.
I’m a Necrons 4th edition-7th edition player and I only just woke up from my great sleep of playing warhammer, I have completely fallen back in love with the game. Push fit was a game changer for me as I could paint each individual component of my models with confidence and minimal errors vs painting a pre assembled model that I couldn’t take apart. For a 1,000 point game I took a Doomstalker fully painted dissembled in its box for multiple days and then reassembled it when I needed to use it with no issues in under 5 minutes. The new models look so good. I converted all of my old warriors to new warriors using the spare gauss flayers and reapers that came with a sprue of warriors that I bought from eBay. I play the Mephrit dynasty and due to how little they were covered in the past, figuring out my paint scheme wasn’t so straight forward. Contrast paints are amazing in my opinion as I can now paint all of my Orange energy with far more confidence than before. I sold 1/2 of my old army for £400 then used that money to fully magnetise the bases or my minis and pickup for more minis
Good stuff man. I’m currently in the same boat because I have these tyranid models from Leviathan that I just randomly decided to give a quick paint job to instead of getting rid of them. The “simple yet effective” method is exactly the push I need to get out of this backlog!

Thanks for motivating us to complete our armies, nothing bothers me more than having a board with completed terrain and playing with grey unprimed minis. It ruins the mood and the fun
This had a lot of nice tips and I appreciate the message about being comforted with the knowledge that you can always go back and do more of the backlog. Its really hard in my opinion to balance the fact that this is a hobby meant for fun, where you should really only be doing things when you're enjoying them, with the natural desire to have built and painted armies. It can be challenging to know when to allow some models to stay unbuilt or unpainted when you really don't feel like putting work into them as opposed to building an excessive pile of shame. Nice video!
I did something similar recently with my eldar. I had stripped them as I was unhappy with the previous paint job but then realised I had about 70 models to paint. I kept the base coat dark and used a lot of drybrushing and darker colours to hide messy areas and get my 70 Eldar done in about 3 weeks.
Don't feel too bad, it happens to all of us and as long as you are purchasing within your means and it brings you enjoyment then its all good. Does this mean we may get some necron inspired terrain soon? imagine a monolith emerging from under the earth.
I do miss how the Necrons used to have that neon green translucent plastic for their weapons. I would see it all the time on the completed models in the hobby shop display case when I was a kid. I spent a childhood too poor to get involved in the hobby, but on weekends my dad would take me to the local hobby shop to browse, mainly so he could look at the train kits and RC planes. I would spend all of that time in the Games Workshop area, studying all of the boxes. This was the late 90's, so I got to see some cool stuff. I never got to build or play, but I became pretty familiar with the product line. Occasionally I'd get a Warhammer novel or comic book. Anyway, thanks for the Necron video. It obviously brought back some great memories, and as always you do an amazing job making the hobby look awesome.

The Jackson Pollock/CIA joke not only made my day once but TWICE. This is why Eric's Hobby Workshop is THE workshop I support. Iconic work, per usual🙏🙌
I have the Necrons from Indomitus, still on-sprue. And more chillngly, the complete unopened Necron collection from Imperium Magazine. Buried in bins and boxes, laying dormant. Very true to lore. You've inspired me to stop fearing the Necrons and join them in their rightful conquest for utter galactic domination. I even have the 9th ed. codex to decide which Dynasty I'm rolling with. Fear has given way to excitement thanks to this video. I would say that I'm not getting the CIA involved, but unfornately (speak of the devil) they become involved at their meer mention. Some would say it has a glowing effect. Much like Necrons.
Yeah it's ingenious and I'm all for it because I've been collecting 40k entirely through the secondary market until space marine combat patrols. Before that, everything was someone's excess sprue or donated rhino
I got into Necrons in a different, but still related, way, in older days. I can remember when the Necron raiders appeared without much forewarning in White Dwarf as a new race a reimagining of the much older Chaos android. They gave a free metal Necron miniature with that issue, in a blister, which was great. That did the trick of course. I still love the old metal guys, even if they are quite different from the newer plastics, and even more Terminator-like. Also - nice, inspiring video, so thanks for getting me keen to dig them up again.
Ive started clipping all the pieces from one model, putting them into an old ice cube tray, and then clipping out the rest. I feel it lets me get the tool efficiency of using one tool on all minis, but means i cant mix the pieces up. (I usually have two trays, so cut out models that get filed will go into a second tray instead of back to the same one)
I do this too but with a fishing lure tackle bin that has a lid. The spacers can be moved around to create different bin sizes, which is nice for longer bits like spears or vehicle/knight parts.
I think Necrons are a really amazing faction. They have probably the easiest base color scheme out of any faction in the game, and it always looks good because most people who see a necrom can associate it with insert evil robot. My favorite necron scheme is the simple silver and red glow, but with overgrown vegitation for a newly awakening dynasty. The sky is the limit with necrons.
Yeah, GW tried that on me too. I'd gotten the first Kill Team boxed set years ago, and later Forgebane, and had a pile of Ad Mech that were doing everything they could to get me to start. Then one day I found a guy looking to shift some Death Guard for something new. I traded straight across and eliminated one small pile in my mountain, and added about 1500 pts to my DG... I'm at about 8K with those now.
If you're in the UK there are independent hobby shops selling 2nd hand at a much cheaper price. Plenty of alternatives for rank & file especially in fantasy. Haven't bought a mini directly from GWS in years. So long as you're not playing in store or in their own tournaments you're good to go
I started with Aeldari in February. I found out you can buy Yvraine and take Drukhari with you. Got some T'au for extremely cheap. Army number 3! I bought Eldritch Omens. Oh well, another army, Emperor's Children in fact. I also bought the Striking Scorpions Kill Team box. Cool, Space Marine Scouts. I bought the Mandrakes Kill Team. God damn, another Chaos Space Marine army! I'm now sitting on six armies within half a year!
Eric you have released two high quality & entertaining videos within a few days of each other. This is highly irregular and I have informed the local authorities.
We got chaos nurgle that way. Don’t mind it. But we got off the GW treadmill with 8th edition. We play one page rules…and buy either used, or 3D prints. I have not even bought a new model in a while. Given how popular this world is with Russians, reading what we have in that light
Warhammer books use to do this to me..... ask Aaron Dembski Bowden about my Night Lords..... or Graham McNeil about my Iron Warriors. And don't get me started about Dan Abnett
The way they got me was with the small-scale skirmish games, I started with one small band for warcry and fast forward 3 years, I have a full stormcast army, and pieces from orks , nurgle, skaven, DoK, sylvanet and so on 😅😂
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I would definitely watch. I been trying to build up my necron terrain. There are a few terrain craft vids out there but not a whole lot.
Dude I love your videos. Fave part of this one is your steadily increasing arbitrary levels and percentages. Let’s see…how do I put this? Oh that’s right. “Nice.” 😊❤
My issue, aligned with this, is wanting to kitbash everything and so I end up with loads of random boxes of things left over and think to myself "well if I buy x, y and z I can convert those leftovers into something else!" and then when those are done I look at my spares and the cycle repeats...
I play Tau, though I recently started a chaos army to fill in the void that EC haven't met yet. Once the EC comes out im for sure selling most of the CSM I own and use those funds for the EC release. After that, the most I might do is an iron warriors army
Did you make those rocky terrain pieces in the final showcase yourself? Is there a video for how you did it if you did? I have 2K worth of Necrons from the Imperium Magazine subscription to build and paint myself. Awesome video.
If I'm splitting a box I'm asking around about it the week or two before preorder. Or even as soon as the box contents is made known. That way when we have the box in hand in the LGS we divide up the sprues right then. But this luxury comes from having a thriving local community. The only time I didn't do this was for Dark Vengeance because I didn't know that many people playing, and I got it a little bit after launch after its hype had faded.
I usually aim for levels 3/4 when painting. I usually prime them a major color, such as Mephiston Red for my World Eaters and then add a few accent colors, such as Runelord Brass for the staggering amount of trim on the minis and then something like Leadbelcher for their weapons and maybe some extra little details such as a Ultramarine helmet on the base, or the glow of the plasma on the gun. Except for my Night Lords. I'm going all out on those guys. I'm gonna detail the shit out of them, cause I just love my edgy bat boys.
I honestly cant blame anyone who has started a Necron army during or after 9th ed without even really trying haha. Its one of the easiest armies to get on the board and has a very versatile range of mini's in terms of design and playability. Also helps, throughout 9th ed there were many accessible and cheap ways to get models for an army whether from box sets, magazines, and the second hand market. Its the army I started with in 8th ed and boy did I strike gold when 9th ed came lol. Im still coming off that high even in 10th ed with several box sets and individual sets still waiting to be unboxed and painted for my 10k point army.
I also think that things like the agents codex exist just to make imperial players splash into other imperial armies. Play imperial guard? OK here's a few cool agents to add to your repertoire, just to supplement the guard army. A bit later you realize with just a few more models you can field 1k of Agents proper, so you get some grey knights/sisters/etc. You now have enough models in agents where you can likely fill a 1k army of other imperial forces with a combat patrol, especially if some of the agents units are also part of the new army (like SoB squad and immolator). I had something similar happen to me with GSC, with my AM army I could (pre-codex) fill 1/4 of a barebones GSC list. From there it's an easy road to adding a model or unit here and there, and you got yourself a full range.
Yeah, I just got the new Ordo Xenos box because it was all models I wanted to get at some point, and I have always wanted to do some kind of Inquisitorial retinue. They still don't have a lot of options, though, so list building has me leaning heavily on my old mostly firstborn space marines while trying to justify the WHY of not just running all the space marines that I can't even fit into a 2000 point list. Rule of cool, though, and Inquisitors are pretty cool. I just need to resist the urge to commit to buying any (more) Imperial guard in order to theme it like one of the Ciaphas Cain novels... the temptation is real.
You had to do this to me didn't you Eric? All kidding aside I've always loved the Necrons. I don't play GW games or even have any miniatures anymore but I'd definitely consider just collecting Necrons.
Dude! I feel your pain. I have way too many large armies because I keep buying the box sets. LOL That is how I ended up with a large Necron and Nid army.
It has happened to me twice, first it was Necrons and now it is Tyranids. I will probably fail for the same trick when 11th edition is launched and maybe a fourth time when the 12th is released.
Why I sold the Tyranid half of the Leviathan box the first chance I got to a FLGS last year. Space is getting tight already with the Space Marines I have, I can't handle a second army, let alone a horde one. But boy did that World Eaters Christmas box last year and the new Blood Angels box tempt me something fierce.
Been a warhammer nut since the beginning, can count to the penny the cash ive given to GW directly, one catachan army box, one basilisk tank and one blister of snipers, and one codex, the rest of my mountain has come from the 2nd hand market, friends who quit, people i met along my journey who found out i collect and gave me theirs, i just treat the GW web store as a catalogue, printed codexs and rules from the pirates online, if you dont care about fomo sets because you know youll gwt them one day for a fraction of the price the hobby can be cheap as chips 😂

Necron terrain is fun, you get to go abstract and really focus on material studies. Fun to do ruins too.
The way they got me was with the small-scale skirmish games, I started with one small band for warcry and fast forward 3 years, I have a full stormcast army, and pieces from orks , nurgle, skaven, DoK, sylvanet and so on 😅😂
Really loved how you did the bases and PLEASE do tomb world terrain that would be awesome!
A reference to the one true King, Stannis the mannis, I’m sold!
🔥 🔥 👑 🦌 🔥🔥 you have good taste i see
Eric is the Giga Chad of the youtube hobby world
I was literally just thinking of starting to make some Necron terrain, do you have any plans to make a terrain tutorial?
Yeah maybe i will if the people want it. I have lots of ideas
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I would definitely watch. I been trying to build up my necron terrain. There are a few terrain craft vids out there but not a whole lot.
3:02 More cowbell is always the answer.
Beautifully done, a favorite army of mine!
Dude I love your videos. Fave part of this one is your steadily increasing arbitrary levels and percentages. Let’s see…how do I put this? Oh that’s right. “Nice.” 😊❤
I am now re-evaluating my pile of shame for stuff to do like this, thanks for the concept
My first big box was Leviathan and I STILL say "damn... I missed the train on Indomitus, boy."
Weirdly enough I studied Jackson in college for a course credit. Who knew it would come in hand when it came to Warhammer 🤣
11:23 that depends on the novel, actually.
In Twice dead King, flayed one eyes are described as white.
So yours having green eyes is fine! :)
that surely depends on the Necron Dynasty?
The combo boxes are just a great way to unload unwanted stock.
Look at assault intercessors and the recent blood angel releases.
I really liked the basing here!
I've bought a whole Viking/Roman dwarf army from a 3d printer this year, for a third of the price of a starter set. Not a dime went to GW.
Good video. Looking forward to the Titan update.
“We must stop buying model armies!” cried Toad as he bought another.
🐸
Did you make those rocky terrain pieces in the final showcase yourself? Is there a video for how you did it if you did? I have 2K worth of Necrons from the Imperium Magazine subscription to build and paint myself. Awesome video.
Yes I did - its called a whole table of desert terrain or something
That is in fact a quite lovely necron army
If I'm splitting a box I'm asking around about it the week or two before preorder. Or even as soon as the box contents is made known. That way when we have the box in hand in the LGS we divide up the sprues right then. But this luxury comes from having a thriving local community. The only time I didn't do this was for Dark Vengeance because I didn't know that many people playing, and I got it a little bit after launch after its hype had faded.
Necrons what a hood choice
I usually aim for levels 3/4 when painting. I usually prime them a major color, such as Mephiston Red for my World Eaters and then add a few accent colors, such as Runelord Brass for the staggering amount of trim on the minis and then something like Leadbelcher for their weapons and maybe some extra little details such as a Ultramarine helmet on the base, or the glow of the plasma on the gun.
Except for my Night Lords. I'm going all out on those guys. I'm gonna detail the shit out of them, cause I just love my edgy bat boys.
Def want to see your take on some Tomb World terrain
Reading the same book had the same effect on me. Started collecting Necrons...
It has happened to me twice, first it was Necrons and now it is Tyranids. I will probably fail for the same trick when 11th edition is launched and maybe a fourth time when the 12th is released.
Wait, where did you pull the percentages out of again
Bro you could easly be Tom Hardy\s double in movies ngl, you look like brothers.
I seldom hear that in real life, but its a relatively common comment. Nice complement! Hes a handsome man
Absouletely amazing work!
After watching this video I realize by grandson is a GW spy, he expressed an interest in Tyranids and I’m starting a 4th army.
Those forests looks amazing at 0:04. How did you make them?
Why I sold the Tyranid half of the Leviathan box the first chance I got to a FLGS last year. Space is getting tight already with the Space Marines I have, I can't handle a second army, let alone a horde one.
But boy did that World Eaters Christmas box last year and the new Blood Angels box tempt me something fierce.
Dang those look so good and so easy
... How could you do this to me?
Necrons! Necrons! Necrons! One of us! One of us! One of us!
Amen dude. Half my collection is used. Only half because a large chunk is sent to me free by Gw these days lol
